    Excellent rebuild. Fun, practical, and cheap. Good video.

    I just finished rebuilding a slightly down-spec'd Frontier for a friend. Hers was in better condition wear-wise but had not been ridden in years. The paint was in great shape, thankfully. All the bearings were gunked up and grungy but the cups and cones were find and cleaned up nicely. The cantilever brakes were sound but needed some TLC. I found it impossible to get the rear indexing to work 100% with the unnamed Shimano SIS 3x7-speed -- there is un-fixable play in the parallelogram -- but it's close. Overall, the bike functions as well now as it did when new, better in some ways. She's picking it up tomorrow, and I'm happy she'll be getting back to riding and that I could play a part.

      I just actually sold mine yesterday, I swapped some lower end parts back onto it and it sold to an older woman who seems to be happy with it. Only sold for $50 and I had it posted for weeks.

    A lot of work has gone into this edit Bruce and it's beautifully done! The DIY BB tool was next level and I love the tyres on this build against the glossy Red! Also was amazed how well the oriental music worked with shots of the bike at the end! All the best to you for the vote man!

      I thought about it too, but it's a small bit and I had a lot of leverage, thought I'd win the fight if things went that way :)

    I watch these sort of 'Oh hey 90's bike restoration' videos and think back trying to remember the bike my older brother had, that I'd ridden... basically int othe ground. Had an incident where the chain went into the back wheel and teenage me rage quit rather than try fixing it.
    I wish I could slap teenage me for doing that.

      @@BruceChastain How're those grips? Been looking for replacements for the stock hard rubber ones and the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger is no way to test 'em out. Those honestly look nice.

    I will vote your bike because I feel you embraced very well the trasher bash spirit, too many builds are too perfect and expensive or just restoration. You did something really cool and different in my opinion.
    Regarding this video, if I can be honest, doesn't fit with you and your previous ones, in which you didn't hide the struggle like you did here. I say this because I know you had some problems long the way with this bike and I really like when you show them and see how you face and solve them. Don't change your style just to make a cool looking video, be yourself even when you edit. I reckon you already shown the struggle in some others videos but in the final edit you went a little bit too fast in the process of building and painting the bike. But maybe you did this video with a different purposes, maybe for this reason I didn't get it.

    • @BruceChastain
      @BruceChastain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks Michele. Hmm you know honestly less thinking goes into the video then you might have imagined lol. But yes it was a little fast and jumpy, really thanks for the feedback, I will indeed take that into consideration for next time.

    Why you paint without primer ?

    • @BruceChastain
      @BruceChastain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the paint I did use is supposed to be a primer and top layer all in one. But I think it only works if you have a near perfect surface. For this case, I think next time I would use a regular primer.

    I get rid of the rust by soaking in vinegar for 2 - 3 days.

      thank you 20EUR20. And you know what, I'm going to try that because the crazy mix I was using didn't actually work that good, it took a lot of wire brushing to even look decent.
