Great selections, John. Having an audiophile vlogger on TH-cam that listens to electronic genres (and reviews gear) is wonderful. I’m so grateful for your content!
Can Olum Unfortunately, you rarely find better sound on Vinyl for Metal. They just use the same compressed mastering and cut LPs with it. Shame. Mayhem (go figure) has released one of their albums as a 45rpm set.
@@RadoDani I still prefer buying vinyl. It's maybe my setup for vinyl is a bit better than my cd / dac setup. I use rega brio amp with rega rp3 turntable with elys2 cartridge for vinyl. Digital side is with rega apollo cd player and hegel hd11 dac. All connected to q acoustics 3050. Although mastering issue is a fact that most of the companies don't care about spending extra money just to sell 1.000 vinyl, I continue collecting vinyl as my primary source. Almost 2.000 vinyl and still growing.
For me this is a fantastic clip - one of your best. I get home from a caca day at work... it's snowing outside...I plug in my Christmas(y) lights...turn up the heating... brew a top notch cup of coffee, grab a homemade scone and tune in to this clip. Caca day at work forgotten after 30 seconds. Thank you!
I love how open you are about your love of dance tracks. There’s still an air of snobbery in the UK when you pick up a dance record in a vinyl shop, and some places will flat out not stock it. Even some of the general analogue forums I’m on judge me for my indulgently clubby choices. I’m 42 and always got the impression I’d grow out of it like my friends and family but never have, still love it just as much!
This is great example of how to effectively use social media to communicate well. It felt like I made a trip to Berlin, discovered some cool record stores and music while hanging out with a friend...downloaded most of the albums on ROON and spent an afternoon listening. Thank you.
John, please do more of these video's. As a long-time techno, electro and dub listener from Amsterdam, its refreshing to see this content in TH-cam's hifi land. Your passion speaks volume and makes for a great listen which gives people like me to listen to likeminded people and maybe learn about some new (to me) releases along the way.
Man ... I do enjoy your output ... I have not come across a single video of yours , nay ... a single minute of your videos, that is not intelligent, literate, educational, entertaining and enlightening ... You treat your viewers, and their spare time, with respect and that's the highest compliment I can pay anyone! Merry Christmas!
I love your recommendations. You’re fast becoming one of my main go-to sources when I’m looking for great music that’s new to me to experience and enjoy. Thanks!
After record stores went out of business in the early 2000's it became a real chore to discover new music in London the ones that remained were fill of snobby owners looking down their nose at you, and sitting on beatport/juno records scrolling for hours was miserable and lonely. Then places like Phonica changed the game and rekindled my love my electronic music and records, my favourite part of the week was stopping in there and picking up some new sounds or just sitting on the couches hanging out.
John, I enjoyed this video veeery much. Your relaxed and authentic presentation, with your fine home audio set-up in the background, the whole production ... I recently discovered your channel - and love it!
It's great to get a peek into the head (and listening habits) of others who enjoy music as well as the equipment that's involved in the enjoyment of music. I really appreciated this video on many levels (clarity, content, aesthetics & presentation) but the most prominent feature is that it shook up what I'm listening to and it helped me to get out of my well-worn playlists. It's nice to give new albums a try and you've helped me rediscover Richie Hawtin! Keep making awesome videos. Now, back to work!
I just want to say how much I enjoyed this. I am not a audiophile, but your selection of the ‘Best of Berlin’ was an eye opener and Berlin is again on my list of must visit places. Please think what you could do next, you are on to something here, trust me !!
I always enjoy your video content. This makes me want to spend some time in Berlin. I loved the videography and editing, Jana has again done a brilliant job!
I visited Berlin last weekend and used this video as a guide to places to visit. I didn’t do all of them but there are some great shops and it cost me a lot of money. They’re all in interesting parts of the city too.
So pleased that you like Electonica as well as educating me about audio systems. That Car Car Car track is unreal. Especially the Kieran Drum remix. Great video.
JD, very well done. I fancy myself an educated music lover, bit then I get schooled with each new video. The quality of production and content is over the top.
After this video, I love this channel even more. You made me buy an expensive new hifi-system (which i LOVE). Definitely in my top5 youtube-channel-discoveries for 2019!
Wow! This vid was awesome! I saw this just last night. I just wonder, after 3 years, why wait till now to make it? In any case, I’m so glad you did!! I’ve never commented on TH-cam before but felt like I finally had to say something to let John know how much appreciate this and his channel. I’ve been subscribed and watching his vids for months now after coming across my studio monitors (HEDD Type 20) in one of his videos here. I’m so happy to get down-to-earth gear info from someone who’s not only into the same kinda music as I am, but is “music first” and not a typical pretentious or condescending “hifi nerd”! I’ve also wanted to move to Berlin in the early 2000s and still would love it. John!, you’re living my dream life! Berlin, enjoying great sound via amazing gear, great coffee, vinyl shopping/crate digging, getting paid for it! Awesome! More videos like this please! Great work for you and Jana! Keep it up. Many thanks!! Also, loving the shared playlists! Keep ‘em coming!!
I’m no audiophile but I do love your videos! I am a big house and techno fan though, so I think that plays a part. Anyway, what I’d love to see is a track listing of the music featured on each video. The tracks played on this one for instance are sublime. I’m Shazaming my way through them!
John, I'm a music lover and we seem to share in musical taste. I look forward to future music recommendation episodes, vinyl or otherwise. This is super.
That is a great video. I’ve been following this channel for quite some time and it just keeps getting better and better. This isn’t just a channel for audiophiles, it’s a channel for people who like music and want to enjoy it. And by music, I mean good music like the addictive Brandon Moeller - Columbus circle track played at 25:00. Btw John introduced me this artist through his playlists. Thanks John.
First thing I need to say is thank you. I don't comment very much. But when I started watching this video you made. Well, this really made me feel good. Being 67 and have loved audio gear and been a musician, music is my book. Music takes me places. I prefer more of an ambient style of electronic music. One of my favorite albums was one I got turned on to when I was much much younger. It is Sonic Seasonings by Wendy Carlos. Just wanted to share that. Thank you again and I am going to check the albums out you have posted.
Music is a funny old thing. Always intrigues me how people like such different types of music and how personal it is. The stuff in this video just leaves me cold, whereas music I listen to can genuinely change my emotions. Im sure the opposite is true for other people. Fascinating really.
Best episode yet! One for the music! Such a cool insight into Berlin and your obvious passion for music. I've got a few new tracks to check out! Thanks
Hey John, love your stuff and loved this video. I lived in Mitte for a few months back in 2014 and it was the best time of my life. I visited most of the stores that you mentioned as well as Berghain and this just took me right back. Thanks for making this, enjoyed it so much. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic episode, thank you John and Jana! I discovered my all-time favorite records by randomly digging at Power Park Records, HHV and Dussmann. Berlin is such a place for vinyl lovers :)
John, I love your videos for the info, production style and entertainment aspects. While not very knowledgeable about techno and electronica I am open minded about new things. But I am very much into jazz and this is a great time to be a jazz fan with a lot of new or new-ish European jazz musicians recording these days. My wish is that you get a camera aware friend who is knowledgeable about the European jazz scene and jazz records stores to do a guest video with you about jazz just like this one about techno record stores in Berlin. That would be terrific! Thanks for all you do! Happy Holidays! Richard
Hi JOHN DARKO,thank you for your video, god bless you an god bless electronics music,my favorite group of all time is KRAFTWERK,im glad vinyl still alive,DRUM & BASS, TECHNO,amazing stil beautiful sound in the world, thank you so very much for your video, god bless you an your family an friends. Hugo
Listening to DJ Hell 'Car car car' on Tidal and after got "Simpleton" by Extrawelt...new favorite track..on repeat...Thx again for the playlists links!!!
Really enjoyed this video, and have just invested in two Autechre albums as a result! One of those "bands" that I've always known of without ever hearing, I actually imagined they'd be akin to Einstürzende Neubaten, but how wrong I was! And SO MANY great record shops in Berlin! I think I feel a city break coming on for spring 2022! Thanks, John!
Brilliant video! Bikini Waxx is another great store that I enjoyed when I visited Berlin, lots of good electronic stuff and some disco/soul stuff too. Plus they have a lovely upstairs area where you can make yourself a cup of tea and listen to all the records you want.
That was hell of an interesting, enjoyable and relaxing video. You're such a congenialness. Definitely looking forward to see more of your videos. Love
Great selection John. Great to see that there are plenty of enthusiasts out there liking both audiophile hifi AND dance music. There are some great recommendations there - I'll enjoy having a listen. Indeed, I have you to thank for my "discovery" of Brendon Moeller. Not sure whether this floats your boat, but the other vinyl I can't get enough of at the moment is Joris Voorn's "Four" which was released last month - home listening wonderfulness!
Yes John! Love your channel already and I've only been here a couple weeks. I'm definitely part of the music lover over audiophile group and trying to find more channels/groups like that. Keep up the great content my man 🤙
I really enjoyed this video. I am a fellow Deep House/House DJ in Ireland. I am always building my own collection. I must say I love the sound of vinyl and mixing with vinyl, I have never moved to digital. God Bless
Visited Berlin last year, dropped into SchneidersLaden the synthesiser shop. I didn't have the time to visit any record stores then. I am producing my own tacks at the moment and would love to have a few low key releases their. Your tour has given me a reason to return and investigate. Terry
Really enjoyed the selection and the variety of sounds, thanks for sharing! Also nice to see more "music" focused videos with a touch of hi-fi in the background. Would love to see more videos like this one in the future. Cheers!

I don't live in Berlin. I have no plans to visit Berlin. I don't listen to Eloctronic music at all. I still loved this video. Thanks for the hard work you put in to making these videos.
excellent content, love your taste in music and your audio gear reviews. I now have stuff to listen to for this weekend so keep those music recommendations coming.
Please please please more techno related videos. It’s a super under appreciated genre for audiophiles.
Agreed, its almost looked down on a bit.
not under appreciated in germany
I prefer a bit of Diana Krall personally:)
Agree
I love this genre of music, pre 2000 Tangerine Dream is amazing.
Great selections, John. Having an audiophile vlogger on TH-cam that listens to electronic genres (and reviews gear) is wonderful. I’m so grateful for your content!

Listen to Sam KDC latest album if you like metal and want to get into techno.

I don't have time for snobbery. It's just gatekeeping by grown ups who should know better.
I’m older than you and obsessively hunt for electronic music including proper club tracks.
@@DarkoAudio Love the channel. We could use more crate digging videos like this one! Cheers
Mate, the early 90's shopping for vinyl in Soho London = the epitome of snobbery and attitude. I only wanted to buy some music :)
Not all electronica is for dance, low tempo with beautiful textures in sound, can send you into a bliss of relaxation.
This is great example of how to effectively use social media to communicate well. It felt like I made a trip to Berlin, discovered some cool record stores and music while hanging out with a friend...downloaded most of the albums on ROON and spent an afternoon listening. Thank you.
What a great video! It is a blend of music nostalgia and cultural melancholy; warmly executed and beautifully produced. Thank you! 🙏

I look back fondly at my trip over to Berlin back in 2014 from Australia. Bike riding to Space Hall and Hardwax was one of the highlights for me.
I love your recommendations. You’re fast becoming one of my main go-to sources when I’m looking for great music that’s new to me to experience and enjoy. Thanks!

Excellent piece John ..... you share so many different perspectives around audio which are consistently well produced and presented. Thanks!
Such a great video with instructive advice, comments and information for electronic music lovers. Love it !

Love all your attention to detail. And the techno/electro playlists used to inform the reviews.

Power Park is a really great shop, never gets mentioned when people discuss Berlin record stores. I try and swing by whenever I'm in town.
I’m pretty mainstream, but dropped my jaw when you showed Booka Shade Darko cover art. I love the song Darko. Thanks John for reminding me of them.

Planning to visit Berlin next year---can't wait. Thanks for turning me onto Brendon Moeller.
Thx for this Video John! I'm always looking for new Music and found your recommendations very interesting.
Thanks you so much for the insight and play lists.. Your videos are the best part ot the day
Awesome video and as I kinda expected by watching previous episodes we have similar taste in electronic music!
Fantastic video mate, a visual and aural delight!
Nice collection, thank you for listing all those shops in Berlin.
Thank you for the inspiration!
I love your channel and I love reviews of gear; but this video is next level awesome. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution (as always), and brilliant content. Well done.
Love The stairs to hardwax.
Thank you, great selection, that's my days listening sorted :)
Hard Wax and Saturn in one list! What a mix! 😬 Great Video btw
brilliant video fella, thank you very much, seem like a genuine guy, great music taste. Made my friday

Holy Freakin' God! That System 7 Plastikman 'Alphawave' remix is pure joy! Took a bit of finding but an absolute killer. Thanks for the heads up!
Huge help, I was on a quest of digging around for new things to listen and this popped up, great topic!!!
Very informative for me since i am planning to go to Berlin this year. Thank you!
