I can't thank you enough for turning me on to Nicolas Jaar. Incredible! Ordered what I could off this list. Keep up the amazing suggestions. I'm learning...
Late to the party, both with this video of course and also this style of music. You have really opened my mind to a completely new genre for me. Three years ago it was Jazz. Today it is electronic, Avante Garde, ambient. When I wonder how can I spend the next 20 years playing the same music, I realize there is always something else to explore. Thank you. My two sons were over today and I played them Unieqav. They were amazed.
As an Experimental Artist, of 40 years. It's finding an audience for our challenging, or difficult music, that's so complicated. I thank you for explaining this. "We" are here making music, and we just need more people like you to find us.
Many thanks for this list. Please do continue. I trust your filters! A band that could be added, in my modest opinion, are the FLOATING POINTS. Best, J
“A festival for the ears”. Yes, love it! Really enjoying Biosphere’s Dropsonde and Cirque albums at the moment. Can also recommend Max Cooper (Yearning for the Infinite and One Hundred Billion Sparks are fantastic albums).
I'm coming to this genre late. Was into prog rock for decades, but never was exposed to electronic music except through some Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream. Thanks to you and John Darko, I'm discovering all this "new" music, at least new to me. I love listening to it before going to sleep. I never knew the catalog was so deep and the music so incredible. Yes please, another 10 recommendations!
Michael has done it again. Recommended some electronic music that I have followed and Michael has been spot on. Michael you are the OG when it comes to what electronic music we should try out. Great work.
great choices michael, the beauty of entry points is exploring the discography and related artists and then whole worlds open up. by the way, that stage of caretaker will scare the wits out of anyone but it's an amazing suite if you start with the first.
Hi Michael. Really like this episode and have been checking out this music/sounds, love it, will be getting some of these albums. I have always been a fan of Tangerine dream. Thank you for your videos, really enjoy them. Bests from Rob.
thank you for sharing. Had this saved for a long time and am now aiming to venture into them all starting this year, have a good one. Own Caretaker, will need to revisit Coil as immense as they were, thx
I lost my mother to dementia few years back. Yesterday after viewing this video - I started listening to Everywhere at the end of time by Caretaker. When my mother's diagnosis had happened - doctor's tried to explain to us as best as they could as to what happens when one is afflicted with dementia. We tried to understand as best as we could - tried to imagine how difficult it must be for the one afflicted. But yesterday as I kept on listening to the album - as I kept straining my ears to pierce through the veil of intentional noise that clouded the notes, as I grew irritated when I could not quite place the note, when snippets drifted in and out - suddenly the horror of it all dawned on me. I was focused on the music and suddenly realized that in my natural attempt to listen to the music - I had unknowingly got a glimpse of what the mind, of those unfortunate to be afflicted with dementia, goes through. It was a very, very difficult experience - I had to end my listening session as a deep sense of despair had engulfed me and it took me quite a while to get back to a normal physical and mental state. I had never experienced music like this before. I don't think gratitude quite captures what I'm feeling for Mr. Kirby and Michael; it's like being enlightened in two ways - one way I elaborated above - in hopefully being able to internalize, in a small way, the horrors of dementia and thereby feeling thankful to God that He has saved my mother from this abyss. The other is of course a glimpse of the extent to which true art can really touch a person
My favorite genre by far. I wish the pressings were a bit better however. Some of the ambient pieces in particular demand a clean/quiet pressing and that’s not what we always get. They exist but not consistently.
the biosphere (biophon) pressings are outstanding in my experience. done by stefan betke at ~scape i believe. i do agree that it's not uniform across the genre.
I enjoyed ACID MT FUJI; thank you for the recommendation! It reminded me of YAGE 2019 by The Future Sound of London. In some ways, YAGE is an updated version of AMF. Love the videos!
Great video, Bravo! I’ve been following your similar videos for quite a while and bought not all but many many different titles. I enjoyed all of them and...especially impressed by the overall sound quality. You may want to know my personal top top top favourite of your recommendations: Still und Dunkel/Abandoned!
Hello Mike, great video, great list of musicians, and music, I have always been interest in electronic music, unfortunately I don't have in vinyl collection too many of these artist you have show us in your videos, when it comes to Electronic, Avant Garde music my all time choice (and this is just me) hard to beat is Brian Eno, but I like to make you a deep a great recommendation, you might probably already heard about this musician I'm going to recommend, if not, here it is, his albums are not be in an audiophile format or even sometimes hard to be in vinyl, and not sure how much you go into digital or streaming, on which this music from him you might easy find, his name is Jorge Reyes, he was a Mexican artist, he passed away in 2009, he did several collaborations with Steve Roach, he studied music at the "National Autonomous University of Mexico", and he was very interested in Jazz, later on he spend couple of years in Hamburg Germany studied improvisation with Herb Geller, then he traveled through Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka, he also attended a Hindu music course in the Himalayas, he was one of very few artist to let play in sacred sites like the pyramids in Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza. Some albums I recommend is "Comala", "El Costumbre" and of course "Mexican Music: Prehispanic Music for the Forgotten Spirits"
Great choices here, ML. Nice ones. I have known of Huerco S. previously but never knew this Pendant moniker. Very lovely so far in my sampling. Wow. So lush. Thanks for the head's up. Wishing well from CA.
Great recommendations! A few additional suggestions from me would be Pantha du Prince - Black Noise, Ben Lukas Boysen - Mirage, The Sabres of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall, Rival Consoles - Persona and last but not least Nils Frahm - All Melody.
Great stuff you show here. This electronic music is really great. In some cases i find vinyl is not always the best for this music Because i like the background to be dead quiet. Just my personal opinion, But sometimes vinyl Will give more depth. The sleeves are beautiful though. Great video, thanks
The lp pendant is amazing! It went from stillness to intense, I thought it could be a soundtrack to a film. Thanks again for sharing the information so we can join you and listen to the great releases.
Thanks Michael. I feel like such a beginner. I was unfamiliar with everything up until Coil. I have some Coil albums, but only Coil of all of the artists that you showed, though I have heard of everyone from Coil until the end. I will keep these recommendations in mind. More of this type video would be good to see. - Chris
I’m glad to see I have a few of the artist you recommended. Jon Hopkins Immunity is such a nice album. Especially disc two side two. Sun Harmonics and Immunity are such lovely tracks. Picked up a 3x LP from your neighbor down in Bonn a few months ago Mannigfaltig by Dominik Eulberg. Very nice recording. Check him out if you get a chance. Diorama is my favorite but I think this last LP was done a little better.
Thanks for the link & suggestions. It's a part of the music world I'm very unfamiliar with beyond the likes of Vangelis or Kraftwerk. One of my favourites, which isn't so avantgarde is the music from the original Blade Runner by Vangelis.
Wagonchrist - Phat Lab Nightmare Sketch - Reasons to Sway Sandoz - Intensely Radioactive Air Liquide -Nephology Locust - Weathered Well Reload - A Collection of Short Stories
Have you encountered Kiasmos? It's a minimal, experimental techno duo, consisting of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen, and it's been on heavy rotation here since I bought it.
Urghh!! You've got me into electronica! How!?!?! I'm listening to Spirited Machines by vc 118A and can't stop. More Jon Hopkins on the way too! And Space is only Noise is on repeat...Ha
Is vinyl the best format for electronic music, especially that which was recorded digitally? Seems counterintuitive to me to experience electronic music on an analog-oriented media.
One can't recommend Caretaker as a start point....and especially the album recommended here. It's really for connoisseurs of the medium. BOC, Jaar, Biosphere etc for sure.....Caretaker only when you understand the others.
try any by Biosphere, Chris Carter or Ulrich Schnauss, a word of caution I had 7 new records delivered last week, 5 were unplayable due to warping, no fill or scratches, one had a greasy hand print!
Michael I’ve have on numerous occasions posted how I appreciate you and your videos. But, please do not go hipster on us by saying vinyls. RECORDS. Michael, I don't think there is enough coverage of this genre in the VC. Glad you are doing these recommendations for us. Have a great week.

Interesting subject matter. I have always had an interest in the avantgarde, but not necessarily limited to electronic music. It's all fascinating.
