Great points! Didn't consider the 3 wheel design enables less dead weight 👍🏼 well done!

I think you're gonna come to resent me when I start tearing off the wheel pants and doing offroad mods to it that tank the efficiency xD

@@MikeInTheWoodsI think it would be cool to see that. In fact, I think it would be hilarious to see someone take off the wheel covers, replace the stock wheels with some grippy oversized wheels and try rock crawling with it. It might work better than you'd think it would. 😂. Three wheels will stay firmly planted with a really wide stance, with most of the vehicle weight balancing it from the center.
Then when you're done, put the stock tires and wheel covers back on and enjoy the efficiency again back at home.
I think think there is a lot of potential for doing fun, creative things with this vehicle, and I want to see it all!

Nice information on an Aptera use case that is rarely mentioned. You make a convincing argument. I like the inclusion of recent video footage (e.g., the P.I.-Build-In-Progress and Chris McCammon at the JEC show in Paris last week). I have a reservation and participated in the Accelerator Program, so I hope to have an Aptera soaking up rays in my driveway (and on the road!) sometime (maybe early) next year. Aptera still tells me ":Late 2024"... fingers crossed.

Great stuff. I really feel like 7 inches is gonna be great and the vehicle will offroad as well as most crossovers. Great to see your coverage. I've never been a huge fan of camping in the Aptera but the cargo capacity is really nice. Unfortunate that we need a jackery to have enough output for an induction top but overall it is a small inconvenience.
PS: Very unfortunate about the helmet law issues for autocycles in eastern provinces - atleast it isn't alberta which needs a motorcycle license. Hopefully once the vehicle is available the lobbying to fix this stupidity wont take long.

I don't think you need to take the wheel pants off for higher snow. It should push the snow out of the way.

    • @MikeInTheWoods
      @MikeInTheWoods  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

They don't look to be the most durable, so it might be the other way around--the snow pushes THEM out of the way! Certainly something to make a video on when the time comes

I guess they will end up testing in the snow this summer or fall and we will all know if they need to make design changes or not. Production starts in December 2024. So they will be in a rush to do it.

    • @richardryley3660

@@MikeInTheWoodsThey don't look durable on Gamma but I'm pretty sure I saw am under layer of carbon fiber on the PI design. If mounted properly those wheel pants will probably not wobble as much as they did on Gamma.
The biggest question will probably be if the flip up latch fails in the snow and causes the wheel pants to pop up..
I suspect the rear wheel fairing will just slice through snow though, if it is deep enough to matter.

The biggest problem with 3-wheelers is that the middle wheel always runs on snow + ice, even when other vehicles have cleared the 2 lanes of their axles. Then you can have significantly less propulsion

I have wanted them to build this car for sale to the public. It has been 25 or 30 years or more. They never will and then again, maybe they might however, understand that it’s electric and the batteries lose a lot of power during the winter time.

Aptera first appeared in 2005. It didn't even exist between 2011 and 2019. So that's 5 years for this incarnation and 11 for how many years the design has been around.

The 2009 Aptera could not have been solar, and got only 100 miles to a charge. But a hybrid variant could have gotten 300 MPG.
The current Aptera is a complete redesign with little to no elements left from it's predecessor. It's like comparing a modern Ford to a Model T.

Based on what exactly? The fact that they're a startup, and you're just playing the odds in order to feed your superiority complex? If you play the troll card on enough startups, I suppose you'll be right enough times to help feed that ego.
Or maybe you could try cheering for the little guys once in awhile and rid yourself of all the negativity. Seriously, there are plenty of startups out there that I think will fail, or just don't interest me. I don't go around trolling them. I just don't see the joy in that at all.

Aptera does not use a carbon frame. It's aluminum. Plus because the body is made of forged carbon. how is that insulating over what is used in other vehicles? Just provide some numbers and not opinions.
Honestly, it sounds like you are just reading off the Aptera major points list like many others do. All just to get people that $30 off.

    • @n.brucenelson5920

The thermal properties of forged carbon fiber make it well-suited for applications that involve high temperatures, thermal insulation, and thermal stability requirements. It is far less thermally conductive than steel or other metals such as aluminum.
