It's amazing how I was born in a different country, a different era, grew up in big cities, had completely different jobs, look nothing like him, and yet, as I got older, reached exactly the same conclusions about life as this fine gentleman. I salute you sir.
@@devilsoffspring5519 My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.
I'm a black guy in my 30's and I had deep conversations with people from all walks of life: older white gentlemen, guys visiting from abroad, men from Africa and I could go on. This is all through cigars. It's definitely a bonding thing.
Hey Black Guy, guess what? No one cares if you're black. Do you see anyone else saying, "I'm a White/Latino/Asian guy in my...."? No, so STOP IT Already. Glad cigars have you bonding with good people based on this wonder hobby. Not based on you being "a black guy".
@@stevoswag95This is one of the few times it makes sense. A lot of people now think that we should hate each other (I'm black) and that's not true. "i like the fact that it takes time to smoke a cigar. we live in a world that is all microwave ovens, keurig coffee machines, and drive through restaurants. i don't even get on I-35 anymore, i drive two to three hours out of my way when i drive up to my daughter so i don't have to get on the interstate because everyone's in such a hurry. everybody drives so fast. everything's instant. everything's now." so real
Everyone’s driving 60 already and think they need that extra 20 unless you’re in a lane for that or in a legit hurry reason I see no point since we’re already going way faster than wagons or horseback
Huf...tell me about it...I'm 35 and I can't stand how people can't hold a good conversation, it's like a competition of who can talk more and quicker...
My grandpa got me into cigars. We spent a lot of days with a glass of whiskey and a cigar next to the fire. Usually weekly. We'd share hunting stories, talk about life, or just hang out and enjoy the quiet. He died last year. Now when I smoke, I usually smoke alone. Its usually a time of reflection. Sometimes it's a time of planning. Tonight, its a little bit of both.
I am 77 years old and have been a cigar lover since I was a teenager. The best people I have ever been around are cigar lovers. You put it perfectly why I smoke them. People that don't understand or put them down are the one that don't slow down for the enjoyment of life. It's not about being cool or looking like you are rich guy It's about slowing down and really taking time to feel alive. You said it very well, thank you !
Hi. Curious as I am considering it as well, are you suffering from any health problems related to smoking cigars or have you regulated it? Is the nicotine addiction challenging in cigars?
@@itsale5918 it’s due to the fact that cigars take time, you can rush them. So it forces you to slow down and bask in the moment. Especially in today’s world where everything is fast paced.
“When society and culture stands up and says ‘ooo that’s nasty, ooo that’s bad, ooo that’s wrong, ooo you shouldn’t do that’, it makes me look at a little closer and say ‘I think maybe that’s something I want wanna check in to” - that spoke to my heart on a deep level.
It's true. However some people seem to think this means "ignore common sense advice" instead of "investigate the common sense advice and see how much is accurate". Sometimes society is misled, but sometiems when most of society thinks something, it's because it is actually the truth. So don't forget that lol
If this man had a podcast i would definitely listen to it. Not many men with this humble and honest perspective can be found on the internet and it’s refreshing.

This may sound crazy, but what drew me first to cigar smoking was the open minded and polite people I met and talked to at the cigar lounge in my neighborhood. People who were curious and patient and willing to talk and listen to each other. Lots of deep and meaningful conversations.
Sir I'm a 30 year old man. I'm not much of a cigar guy myself but a personal philosophy I've always lived by and has never done me wrong is this. When a man with a wide brimmed hat and moustache is sitting in a chair and wants to tell you something you listen. You listen because you will rarely hear truer words being spoken. This new years I might get myself a cigar and celebrate.
I’ve had Cubans. Many US cigar smokers have. Their quality control has dropped, their cure times are often too short and they are now no longer the best. Sorry
I'm 64 now and my kids are grown. Sometimes when my son comes over we'll sit on the front porch in the evening and listen to the crickets and have a cigar. It's amazing how it can stimulate conversation between us about things that are sometimes difficult to talk about but also reminesc on good times.
It seems a lot of people have also pointed this out but the way he starts the video by encouraging people to learn about things they don’t know about it some of the best advice anyone can give.
I’m a doctor in training here in the U.S. I’ve had a hard time understanding why many of my patients ever got into tobacco. This video really helped me understand them better, I appreciate it.

Growing up, my father was a western simple man who is a avid cigar smoker. He spends a lot of money to fill his humidors. I think what he loves the most beyond the taste was the times we smoke cigars and he shares his wisdom. My fondest memories were shared having a cigar. This last weekend I told him how I plan on marrying the girl of my dreams over a cigar. His pride through that smokey grin made my day.
Normally I’d listen to this while driving or doing something else but this guy has some special power that makes me sit down, turn my phone and put my full attention on his words
Have to admit that I almost moved on at the beginning of the video, but I was listening when you asked me to stick around and I am glad I did. I have never smoked, but it doesn't bother me if someone else does. I actually enjoy the smell of cigar or pipe smoke and I understand the idea of slowing down and enjoying something that is of good quality. I could sense a change in your demeanor when you talked about being a bit rebellious and drawn to things that our society may reject. I like the message once again. Fine job Sir.
Did you know that secondhand smoke is actually harmful for people, including non smokers. People who do not smoke, but are around secondhand smoke, are 25-30% MORE LIKELY to develop heart disease. Did you know that secondhand smoke causes over 34,000 premature deaths from heart disease every year in the United States? When someone smokes next to you, they are not only disregarding the health and safety of themselves, but they are also willingly putting others at risk. That is why there has been a huge shift to smoke free environments.
You echoed my thoughts perfectly. I’m the only person I know that smokes cigars, my Wife hates it, my family doesn’t get it & I don’t care to explain it to them again. I know they’ll never grasp the pure joy of sitting quietly by the pond for an hour or two, puffing away on a masterpiece, truly enjoying one of life’s great pleasures.
Ill be honest about two things, - I probably wont be smoking cigars after this video. - This is one of the first times someones convinced me to continue watching a video about something i wasnt interested in. This ISNT a video on cigars, or smoking cigars. This is a video on life philosophy. Id genuinely love a series of this man just sitting, drinking a coffee, smoking a cigar, talking about life and his thoughts. Edit: turns out he does have alot of videos in this style and ive been enjoying them thoroughly
smoking cigar or pipe is not the same as smoking cigarette. first of all, you don't inhale their smoke. it is forbidden. second of all, cigar or pipe smoker can live for months or years without wanting to smoke more. third of all, they live until death of natural cause.
So happy you enjoyed his videos! I am a cigar smoking enthusiast , but I never force cigars on people. Smoking a cigar to me is a form of meditation to me. But that's my experience & just my opinion.
I quit smoking decades ago and I loved it all, cigarettes, pipes, cigars whatever. I have no interest in smoking again yet I listened to this whole video. This man can tell a yarn like few others can, it's like story time for adults. Everybody loves a good story and I think this guy has lots more to share. I for one want more.

As a fairly new cigar smoker, you give a accurate explanation about cigars and clear up the misconceptions that most people have about them. The reasons you give are a lot like the reasons why I smoke cigars which I thought that was interesting. This video like others you have made, educate not only me put the people I share them with and I wanna thank you for that. Ever since you started making videos I’ve been wanting a video like this and hope you continue to make videos about cigars. I can admit I’ve tried all the cigars that you have recommended in your videos and I really appreciate the advice, especially as young person getting into a hobby that is very intimidating when navigating through the various different types of cigars. By the way the Charter Oak Habano is now my go to cigar.
As a fellow cigar smoker and someone who often questions the values of the society we live in, I found myself agreeing with everything this man had to say. Words of wisdom indeed.

Thanks for the addressing this, the “war against tobacco” created a whole generation who misunderstand that cigar and pipe smokers are not the same as cigarette smokers. They do not inhale smoke into their lungs to get a nicotine hit like cigarette smokers do, but only onto their mouth and nasal cavity. Enjoying the taste of a hand rolled cigar or sipping the taste from a well blended tobacco from a hand made briar pipe, while enjoying a beautiful sunset with friends at the end of a good day by a fire side is one of the finer things in life. Wisdom and sound judgment comes from a those who live a balanced contemplative lifestyle. There is a reason the Native American Indians referred to it as the peace pipe. Some of the most brilliant minded thinkers ever known throughout history understood the benefits of slowing down and enjoying a pipe or cigar.
I grew up in South Florida and learned about cigars from old Cuban men that would spend all day long smoking cigars and playing dominoes. In my early20's I had the pleasure of living next to an old Torcedor named Victor who taught me a LOT about growing, curing, rolling, aging, storing, and smoking a good cigar. Although it may be a different world down here than where you are sir, everything you spoke of in this video rings true from what I learned hanging around Victor. It's a fast paced world here and everyone is in a hurry to get no where fast. But when it's time to smoke, you find a nice comfortable spot, pour a nice drink, light up and relax.
I would love to connect about what he taught you! Recently grew my first batch and cured it the best I knew how - such a simple and profound thing. I found myself looking up old tobacco processing videos on TH-cam but I would love to talk to someone that has had direct experience!
Wholeheartedly agree on how cigars force you to slow down and contemplate. Never thought about it like that until you mentioned it. Up until now, I always enjoyed my time with a cigar but never realized that it was really the TIME that I was most appreciating, and the cigar was nothing but a doorway into that brief state of mind that is so important in such a fast-paced world.
DO NOT do it. Trust me, I wish to god that I never started. I had to quit when i had my first open heart surgery a decade ago. Life has not only changed drastically for me but its become a lot harder at a time and age I needed to be at my top condition. You don't want to go into your Golden Years unhealthy (thats if you make it).Theres no way around, unless you die from something else before you retire, you are guaranteed to wind up like me if you smoke. The sickest part is that whileyour family has to learn to live without you, the people who own the tobacco companies drive fancy cars, live in mansions and put their kids through private schools and college while you tobacco addiction drains your wallet and eventually leavers your family without a father (or a severely weakened one until that day comes). like being dependant on your wife and kids ? Go ahead and smoke, watch what happens. Ask the tobacco company execs if they smoke,if their kids smoke. Their families live in luxury while you burden yours. it creeps upon you and the damage is done before you even know it. the BIGGEST mistake is thinking pipe tobacco is not addictive, lol. Smoke it and see what happens. The nicotine, as i found out too late, is every bit as addictive as cigarette tobacco. Yes, even if you don't inhale. its absorbed through in your mouth. Hope this helps at least one person.
I would be interested to know how much exercise you got in those years, what your diet was like in those years, what your natural genetic predisposition to health is like. Cigars are real easy target and people tend to blame a lot of things for. But it is very rare that health problems boil down to one easy, simple Choice. You said yourself that you smoked cigarettes first, and there is no way to ascertain how much damage was done by the cigarettes before anything else. I think you are being a little bit simplistic in your view of this subject. Now, I sympathize with your health problems, and I hate anybody has to go through that. I’m not making light of your troubles.
Hi, DeWayne, this video strikes a chord with me🤗 I'm a 77 year old English guy whose been smoking cigars since I was 17 , so 60 years. I began with cheap cigars, all I could afford, but I remember so very clearly the very first time I really appreciated a cigar. My girlfriend, now my wife of 55 years, were at a New Year's Eve Ball at Trentham Gardens Ballroom back in 1964. After the balloons came down at midnight we went to sit in a balcony overlooking the dance floor and i lit up a cigar my future in laws had bought me for Christmas. I had a glass of port and really enjoyed just sitting there with my love, Sue and I smoked that cigar. Wonderful! Since that time I've smoked cigars in the cigar lounge at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and so many other places in the world, and finally discovered Havana cigars about 30 years ago. Oh, they're so smooth and my absolute favourite was a Romeo y Julietta Cedro de luxe #2. I've tried Ashtons, Monte Cristo, Joya de Nicaragua and many others. Having said that my favourite situation is, as you have said, is to sit in my garden on a sunny afternoon in England, yes we do get them now and again, and sit quietly, reflecting, and smoke , listen to the birds and that feeling of complete peace and relaxation takes over. Lately, I find that bigger cigars are too much for me and I'm presently enjoying Monte Cristo #5's which are quite small but beautifully smooth and mild , which suits me perfectly. Sorry to go on so long but I wanted to share my own experience of the enjoyment you get from that personal time you give yourself to just sit quietly, think and be content. Thanks DeWayne, keep the videos coming.🤗🤗🤗
I just stumbled across this video. Everything you said is exactly why I smoke cigars. I started about 3 1/2 years ago and smoke at least a couple a day. I became infatuated with the idea of cigar smoking about a year before I started. I loved reading about the history and process of what goes into cigar making and I still do. Last year, I visited Tampa on a short vacation and was able to tour a factory belonging to the oldest family-owned cigar company in the US. It was one of the coolest tours I’ve been on.
The sense of smell will trigger the strongest memories! Whenever I smell a cigar I'm instantly transported back to the mid-1970s. Dad in the garage working on his V-8 Corvair, me working on my dirt bike. Great memories! Cigars have been a part of our family ever since. Absolutely slow down and smell the roses. . . or cigars!! :]
The reason I smoke cigars is that my Dad smoked 2 cigars every day. I love the aroma of a good cigar. Taking time to reflect on fishing and hunting trips with dad. It's very relaxing and rewarding to spend an hour or a bit more smoking and enjoying the taste of a good stogie. Punch rare corojo one of my favorites.
“Men need to be men.” Subscribed! And I started to really get into cigars a few months ago and one of my favorite things to do when I get home early from work is light up a cigar and do a bunch of yard work. It’s nice.
Man, I love this explanation of the cigar life...and I am a coffee connoisseur and breaking down coffee and cigars the same way is why I am into both...Cigars erve a purpose that's way more complex than what a cigarette is, by far. Cigar smoking brings you a moment to collect your thoughts, to process life and toe contemplate their next steps. Cigar smoking brings this in spades.
I did have to laugh when he said, 'As a coffee connoisseur walking into Starbucks'. If you really appreciate coffee, Starbucks is the last place you want to be. It tastes like old burnt toast unless you mix it with 1500 calories worth of sugar, cream and artificial caramel flavor.
You just earned a sub more. They way you talk, the way you sit (just so chilled out and not being in a rush), the way you explain things is just so calming and nice to listen to. I am a fairly new cigar smoker and the things you said couldn’t be more true. Happy to have found your channel
Dwayne, i really enjoy your videos. My nightly ritual is sitting on my back porch enjoying a good cigar and a fine glass of bourbon. Tonight I’m having a La Flo Dominica and Buffalo Trace. Watching my horses graze in the pasture, and listening to whippoorwills and hoot owls. Heaven.
Thank you sir. I have been watching some of your videos recently. This one, in particular, helped me stop being hesitant about getting and smoking my first cigar a few months ago. As a 42-year-old, I have been enjoying life more ever since. Respect and regards from Iran.
I quit cigarettes nearly 30 years ago. Glad I did. I feel better. More recently I have begun smoking a pipe for the same reasons you mentioned about cigars. The 2 times that I am able to concentrate & figure out answers are in the morning when I first wake but before I open my eyes. In that state I am able to visualize and manipulate in my mind in ways that are difficult later in the day. I guess it because of distractions. The only other time I’ve been able to focus like that is at the end of the day with chores done & a sit back with a pipe & a good tobacco. It helps me to be still & shut out all the outside noise. If I’m not working on some solution the peace and quiet are very relaxing.

I’ve smoked weed, wax and nicotine vapes etc but cigars are just something different. They don’t get you high or anything crazy but the calming effect taking time to settle down and smoke a nice hand made cigar gives you is unmatched and always will be. Out of everything if I had to only keep one thing to smoke forever it would be cigars easily. Great video.
Absolutely. In an attempt to find a healthier alternative to smoking weed, I switched to a dry herb vape. 1-2 hits of my Dynavap and I'd be blasted. So I could get the effect, but I missed to process of smoking a joint. Now I've come to a point where I don't want to alter my reality, but to appreciate the one I'm in. Cigars still give you the process, or the ritual, as shaggy dude accurately puts it, but without the high that I was starting to get tired of anyway.

I had no idea Sam Elliot smoked cigars! I was expecting him to say “Coors, the banquet beer”. All jokes aside…I really enjoyed your video as a fellow cigar enthusiast and the calm and soothing sound of your voice and the vibe of your video is, in essence, the way a cigar needs to be enjoyed: slow and calmly but with intent. I love reflecting my cigars off my mood and environment. Its like an art to me.
I have never seen your channel, Dwayne, but I assume YT put it in my feed as I was sitting here relaxing with my morning coffee and cigar (and my little Corgi dog in my lap) because I’m prolific cigar smoker. This, my friend, is one of the best if not THE BEST video I have ever seen on why and how to enjoy a cigar. I really appreciate the fact that you pointed out the differences in ingredients between premium hand-rolled cigars and cigarettes/gas station “cigars”. That is something I always point out to people who are curious about my cigar hobby but think it’s the same as cigarettes. Sir, well done. You nailed it.
You got it. You were talking about cigars, but you actually are addressing the whole issue of life. Do we do what everyone else is doing or do we wait, think, meditate and chart our own course. I don't smoke cigars, but I got the message loud and clear. Superb, lets be men and be wise, slow down and be thoughtful. Now that I am old, 68 in October, I enjoy taking my time although I have much less time than I had before. I learned, much of the frustration of my life was living with the anguish of my hurried decisions. Now I love to consider and think of a project in my mind. Then when it is well thought out applying the wisdom of what I thought through for weeks or months. It is manly wisdom, a cigar of life not a cigarette. Maybe you have to be old enough to slow down and appreciate what you just said.
I got into Cigars last year, after smoking cigarettes since I was 17. I'm 30 now and I can honestly say: they are fun to collect, they have an amazing history behind them, and the flavor is just bar none. I don't ever feel the need to pick up a cigarette ever again.
Everyone has to find their own cigars. You know you found your cigar when you feel the soul of the earth in the cigar and you recognize it as your own soul. In that connection, I believe, is the deepest peace you can find in cigar smoking.
Yes, indeed, when you're tasting a fine wine, sipping a cup of good coffee or smoking a fine cigar what you're doing is tasting the earth from which it is grown and even experiencing the weather the plant experienced when it was alive. That's pretty magical. When you can slow down and connect with your breath as you smoke a cigar, it can become a meditative experience. Paying attention to, and becoming knowledgeable about these kinds of experiences, honors the earth, honors Life, and honors the cultures and peoples who preceded you and made these experiences possible.
Such a profound perspective. This is the first video Ive seen from you and being a cigar smoker close to your age, I had to watch. I couldn't agree more with everything you said. It is a ceremonial event smoking a cigar. I don't enjoy one often enough. It will be at sunset or with a fire and always with a fine spirit to sip. Alone or with a friend its a time to slow down and contemplate. Ive also gotten into mixing cocktails for myself. Its also a similar experience as I think about it. Gathering the mixing tools, ingredients I need, and crafting a fine drink. It also takes time to enjoy. Its all wonderful and makes life extra sweet.

The message in the first 1:30 of this video is fantastic and can be applied to so much more than cigars in our lives, beautifully articulated. Thanks for the great video!
Your introduction was spot on, polite and true. I 100% agree with what you've shared here. Job well done! What you've presented is exactly why I enjoy cigars too. The combination of flavors, especially with an adult beverage is a combination that just works. Thank you for sharing this commentary!
Love that I've found this channel. Cigars have been an important ritual for me when I need a break. It forces you to stop everything for about an hour and just contemplate. Or to have a great conversation with someone around a fire... It's a great thing.
My late father started smoking cigars in the USMC during WWII. The cigarettes went quick, but there was always a supply of cigars. Having a nice cigar living in a bloody swamp for months, help him keep his mind. Enjoying your wisdom, thank you Sir ❤
I appreciate this so much. "Men need to be men". This is totally lost in today's society and as a man in his 30's I feel like very, very few people I encounter are what I would call a 'gentleman'. There's something masculine about cigars and it's not about putting on a veil for other people to show them how 'manly' you are. Whether it be a cigar or pipe, that time you take to slow down and spend it in contemplation makes you a better man for yourself and everyone around you.
I spent a lot of time as a kid riding around with my grandfather in his old truck. He was a farrier, and I remember the tattoo on his forearm, a horse's head peering through a horse shoe. This tattoo (and its wearer) belonged to G Troop of the 3rd Cavalry, the last generation of old horse Cavalry. His pickup was old and dusty, it had a manual transmission, and a knob on the steering wheel, and the cab had a pleasant smell. My grandfather kept an old leather pouch of pipe tobacco on the seat, and the bright New Mexico sun would heat up the seat, pouch, and tobacco together, making the entire cab smell like unburned pipe tobacco. In the summer we would drive from farm to farm, and from ranch to ranch, going to horse shows, and often the race track. I would play with the other kids, roping hay bales, climbing fences and trees, or sometimes sit on the back of whatever horse my grandfather was shoeing or trimming. I drank lots of lemonade, played with various dogs, while the day passed slowly by. Then we would drive back home to a meal of burned chicken or whatever else my grandmother had made (she was an awful cook). When the sun would go down, the frogs would come out, and I would see how many I could catch before catching an hour of tv before going to bed. My grandparents would stay up later, smoking and drinking beer, and talking about old times. My parents' generation, like my grandfather's, was a generation of smokers. Smoking was the norm, nonsmokers were the exception. You could push your shopping cart down grocery aisles while smoking, you could smoke in restaurants and theaters, on buses and airplanes. It's what everyone did. I suppose it's no small wonder than everyone in my family, with the exception of myself, smoked. As a kid, it was normal to sit in a car on a long drive (and all rural New Mexico drives are long) with two or more adults in the car smoking, and the two or more kids in the car not even noticing it. My parents (my mom and my stepfather) coughed a lot, and the sound of coughing was the backing track to my home life as a kid. Unfortunately, smoking is not a harmless habit. My grandfather, a man who had seen and done more things than almost anyone I ever knew, succumbed to his habit. In his last years he slept little as he spent sometimes hours in the night coughing. He lived for 75 years, which was longer than he had expected, but is last years weren't so pleasant. Then my father passed at 60. I barely knew him as he had left when I was only 1 or so. But his habit caught up with him, and he died of cancer. A few years after him, my mother died, suffering from emphysema, heart disease, and cancer. Remember that all things are good in moderation, and bad in excess. One of the high points of my day is having my lunch in a Tokyo park, and sipping from a cold bottle of beer. But I never allow myself more than one per day.
I like using a rolling average. I'll have 3-4 beers in a day but then I'll be done drinking for the rest of the week or a couple of weeks. I'll drink a 12 pack real quick but i don't buy them but once every few months.
Good post. I’ll offer this- The older we get, the different risks we take. And those risks are perceived and even defined differently than years past. Cigars specifically are IMO great to approach as you do with beer, and not even as a daily matter. For me, I won’t smoke one in a bad/concerned/strained mood. I prefer to wait and enjoy one only after such an occasion that I’ve either learned or accomplished something significant. As Dwayne describes, it is a ritual that not only serves to offer contemplation, but to pay honor to those who worked so hard to grow and make them. And if you’re someone who is driven by/towards excellence, then a cigar can ‘connect’ you to that force one puff at a time. To me, a premium cigar once a week or so under ideal conditions is more than worth the risk. It doesn’t provide peace of mind, but peace FROM mind. It forces you to slow down, let go, and never lose your integrity throughout. Not selling it, but like many things in life it is a matter of age, experiences, perspective, and relative peace. There are so many truly toxic things we walk-past every day. If I can sit on my back porch, admire the freshly-mowed lawn, and savor a truly special cigar, then that was a great day. Not every day is a great day, but when you come across one, make it as special as you can.

Well stated. I really appreciate your non scripted, off the cuff, honest thoughts and feelings. As a guy that also enjoys cigars, I found that everything you said resonated with me. Great video.
Just shy of 50 years old and recently started smoking premium cigars. I keep it to one a day, as it can be an expensive hobby. Throughout the day I find myself looking forward to my evening smoke and the down time and reflection that comes with it. Of the rather short list of things I wish I discovered sooner in life, cigars are definitely one of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I always loved the smell of cigars when smoked by my Italian family. Now at 68 I started to enjoy that old memory smell. Love the varieties that are out there. Thank you Nick
Very glad I found this video. I am just getting back in to cigars after a 4-5 year hiatus. Thanks for eloquently explaining the appeal of cigars to even the non-smokers. From those who already know and appreciate fine cigars....I think we all agree with every word you said.
My uncle smoked cigars and I've been trying to learn about them. You mentioned you need to properly light and smoke a cigar to get the value of it, I'd be really curious to see another video on that. Thanks

Mr. Dwayne, I want to thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your content on TH-cam. I am a 42 years old man that has been dealing with the pain of separation from my wife since winter of 2022. By the grace of God I found your channel around late Spring of 2023 and your “cigar” videos have helped me to find a sense of calm, peace, and be hopeful for my future. Although sometimes I still get depressed, watching your videos and paying attention to your wisdom and knowledge learned from life have kept me going forward with my head high. I am aware you created your TH-cam channel as part of your legacy to your grandchildren, but at the same time I believe God is working wonderful things in others peoples lives like myself. God bless you, momma, and the rest of your family, and thank you again. 🫶
I remember taking a weeks vacation in Mexico with my family. The life there is so slow and it was such a refreshing change from the chaos that is the suburban/city life. I wish everyone has the opportunity to experience it. It's very eye opening.
My Uncle Bill, Battle of the Bulge Veteran, gave me my first Muriel Magnum Cigar when I was 10 years old on the 4th of July, he smoked two a day then. To light my firecrackers, of course: he taught me how to lite it and keep it burning. I keep the tradition going, now 45 years later ! Bought my first Zippo 31 years ago on my honeymoon, still got the lighter and the wife !
The whole ‘slow down and contemplate’ is the exact reason I do it. Life is indeed in such a rush, but the fact you have to set aside an hour to yourself, to do nothing but sit there and think. You can’t beat that. Great video.
I and another friend were the only ones in my friends group that smoked cigars 3 years ago, slowly I've met and befriended other cigar smokers and many of my closest friends have taken it up with me and I now have over a dozen good friends, including my lifelong best friend really really enjoy smoking cigars and enjoying each others company while doing so. it's a great pastime and hobby.
I'm a cannabis smoker, rarely tobacco. But i took my friend who does smoke tobacco to a cigar store for his birthday, and the absolute amazing education and insight we received from the store workers was incredible. It was a great experience, and it gave me an appreciation for the art of making a cigar. The worker was obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about this, and that alone reinforces the idea that cigars are worthy of that respect.
As somebody who smokes blunts over joints it would definitely be an experience like no other to go to maybe a white owl or swisher distribution plant. So I can more or less get the sense of joy out of that.
I am 63 and though occasionally (very, very occasionally) I smoked one, but now, very recently I found joy in smoking. A world of difference to cigarrettes, both in components (those very toxic) and in attitude. Is relaxing and I like to do it alone stealing a small part of my day to sit in a bench outside and let the smoke fill my senses. I found a great occasion for meditaion on this. Thanks for your input, and I truly hope some people will find this pleasure, maybe then the world will slow down a little.
This may be a broad statement, but i will "stick" to it because, for me, its true. I have never met a "bad" person who is a genuine cigar smoker. The guys who are closest to me are all guys i met through a local cigar shop. We met at what the owner called "smoke session's" (just a gathering on the last Saturday of a month for smokers to get together and congregate.) These men i met have become my best friends and each one if from a different walk of life. Black, white , hispanic, liberal, conservative, Christian, Moore, Southern or Yankee. We are all different but through our love of cigars and conversation, we have become brothers and even formed our own smoke club and built a Lounge. We went from a group of 5 to 12 in less than a year and are atill growing. This is what this world needs. A slow down that leads to open and non confrontational meetings. That leads to making friends and not enemies. You are right sir. The world needs a slow down, a cigar, a good drink and a meaninful conversation among MEN.
As a woman who loves to smoke a good cigar, I got started by reading a copy of "Cigars for Dummies'' from the public library. And for similar rebellious reasons - because society says women shouldn't do that. As an occasional smoker Im very happy to be in the minority. By the time something is adapted by the majority of people it loses its appeal. I also ride horses out in the desert in the southwestern U.S. My goal is to always ride out far enough to not be able to hear the sounds of humanity for a bit. Just your horse and the hum of the earth. Thanks for the videos. I have learned a lot and always look forward to the next one.
Very thrilled with this message and how it was composed. Couldn’t have been spoken better. I enjoy cigars sometimes with my friends. I enjoyed one last night actually
I couldn’t agree more sir. I’ve been smoking cigars fairly recently with my father & brother and it’s brought about some of the best memories and conversation as of late. A little bourbon and a cigar is an amazing way to relax, connect with others and slow life down a little bit. Thanks for sharing your insight into what makes them great.
I appreciate your channel. I had an old friend that was a farrier. He was old school, dressed like John Wayne, smoked cigars, and drank whiskey. He committed suicide a few years ago, and I miss him dearly. Thank you because you reminded me of my friend...I enjoyed the old memory reel play.

But, cigars are great at bringing a few guys together and they allow for great conversation.

If you need a cigar to slow down and enjoy life, then you aren't really in the right mind space to begin with.

You might like Vega Fina Perlas! I currently smoke them now.
Did you ever listen to Rush Limbaugh's radio show ? He was a big cigar aficionado also.
The sense of smell will trigger the strongest memories! Whenever I smell a cigar I'm instantly transported back to the mid-1970s. Dad in the garage working on his V-8 Corvair, me working
on my dirt bike.
Whenever I smell gas or grease, I go back in time to my grandpa's filling station.
If its a cuban its roses / coffee / vanilla, love, lmfao

And I started to really get into cigars a few months ago and one of my favorite things to do when I get home early from work is light up a cigar and do a bunch of yard work. It’s nice.
Man, I love this explanation of the cigar life...and I am a coffee connoisseur and breaking down coffee and cigars the same way is why I am into both...Cigars erve a purpose that's way more complex than what a cigarette is, by far. Cigar smoking brings you a moment to collect your thoughts, to process life and toe contemplate their next steps. Cigar smoking brings this in spades.
Exactly
What would you have to say about coffee?

Spot on! Great video! This is why I smoke cigars, REAL cigars. Life slows down, and you get a chance to catch up. I never light up unless I have at least an hour to sit.
I have enjoyed some of your other videos recently, and I don't smoke cigars so I didn't find this video to be one I wanted to watch. But man, this is now one of my favorite videos from you DeWayne. Walking through life slowly, contemplatively, full of care and gentleness is a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing with me. -Justin
Well said, its almost like a ritual

I recently got into the world of cigars myself. It truly is the old world slow style of producing and smoking of cigars that truly interests me. Everything about cigars is deliberate. From growing the tobacco up to finishing a cigar. Nothing can be rushed. Otherwise the whole experience is ruined. Thank you for this video sir.
For me personally, I collect and smoke cigars to help with my hindering anxiety issues. Smoking cigars is a practice in mindfulness, to be in the moment and to use an overly utilized quote… to stop and smell the roses. Love your video.
I can so relate dude, there are days at work, that all that keeps me going is deciding which stick Im gonna smoke when I get home.
@@jacobv4564 Haha!!
I’m only laughing because I also have those days. Here’s to you and anyone/everyone else who might be or will be enjoying one as well. Cheers and hope yours is a good one! 👍
I love me a good cigar. I found that my cigar choices are usually dependent on my environment. Got my yard work cigar, wedding or special occasion cigar, camping cigar, work break cigar, breakfast cigar, social cigar, good mood cigar, fml cigar, and so many more. I love reflecting my cigars off my mood and environment. Its like an art to me.
What would be your choice of good mood cigar ?
@zaidaldoori5766 A good Kentucky fire cured, coa, my father, JR alternative, punch, or something along those lines. I like a good strong cigar.
I don't smoke and I'm not planning to, but listening to someone speak with such love for something is super interesting. Very relaxing video
I could listen to this man talk about any subject. I love my Cigars and whiskey! Thanks for uploading sir.
I’ve been smoking cigars for 30 years and I still learned a lot from this. I appreciate the research you’ve done on this..
This is more of a life lesson than a cigar video. And I love it.
I got into Cigars last year, after smoking cigarettes since I was 17. I'm 30 now and I can honestly say: they are fun to collect, they have an amazing history behind them, and the flavor is just bar none. I don't ever feel the need to pick up a cigarette ever again.
Your lungs will thank you
Dwayne is a good wholesome man that this world needs a lot more of!!!
This was the most relaxing thing i have seen in my entire life. Truly, thank you Sir!
I hear ya man I enjoy the quality cigars when I can afford them and its always a pack of Phillys peach flavor. If im feeling extra good ill even pair it with a neat glass of early times, for instance i bought my first pistol when i wa 20 and before going to the range with my new hi-point 9mm i probably had half a bottle and three cigars in a bout an hour just taking it slow. I totally know where this guy is coming from!
@@dah9vandals bruh Phillys is not what he’s talking about in this video-

I love your content, your voice is calming and you seem to be so down to earth. Thank you for putting kindness and wisdom back into this world.
This is a great video. I've been a cigar smoker for almost 10 years now, and I absolutely agree with what you have spoken about.
"Men need to be men,
They need to slow down
They need to be thoughtful,
They need to be careful,
They need to quit living a life that's stamped out,
Every single one, by a machine in a factory
They need to quit going bumper to bumper to bumper through a drive through
Men need to step out of the pack,
They need to be contemplative
Cigars are one of the things that embody that"
(10:17)
I don't know if I've heard someone describe the need for men to slow down and be thoughtful in that way. Well said.

Good post. I’ll offer this-
The older we get, the different risks we take.
Thanks for shering bro. Its all about knowledge.. my granpa died 3 month before i was born. He died of loung cancer.. he smoke a lot.

10:18 I've been dealing with anxiety and depression for a good number of years now, going to a number of psychologists who have helped me with nothing. This man just gave me the best psychological advice I've received in years.
Try working out bro and do mind stimulating things. If you just sit around your body creates these chemical imbalances and create these scenarios in Your head to prepare for a possible conflict that will never happen. Adjust my son and I hope for you
Amen brother. Men need to be men. I wish you the best...hang in there.
Work out, and buy a motorcycle. Psychologists are just massively overpaid “people to talk to”
@@thebrainwash appreciate the advice
Brunos need to be Brunos.

What he said about sitting around with a group of men bonding is very accurate. I smoke cigars with my family and it therapeutic. But, cigars are great at bringing a few guys together and they allow for great conversation.
