I want to learn to sew so badly but I have no idea where to start! I don't even know how to thread a needle yet -_- Do you have any tips or tricks on how to learn or what tools I'll need, etc? I would appreciate it because I would love to be able to make my own clothing one day
You can find a sewing starter kit at Joann Fabrics for about $10, but I don't know if there are any cheaper. Any starter kit should have a needle threader included, which looks like a coin with a wire loop attached. This is useful because it creates a larger loop to insert the thread into. To use it, you would first put the wire through the eye of the needle, then put the thread through the wire loop, and then pull it back through, taking the thread with it. This is usually easier than trying to thread it directly, since the wire is easier to maneuver than the thread, and is easier to put the thread through. Check first to make sure that the thread is smaller than the eye of the needle, though that's only usually a problem with very small needles or very thick thread. When knotting the thread, you can either tie a knot around both ends, which tends to be more secure, or around only one end. Tying the knot around both ends means that if one thread frays or unravels later on, you still have a backup. If you tie a knot around only one end, you need to make sure that you have enough loose thread on the un-knotted end so it doesn't slip out of the eye of the needle, but if you make a mistake it's easier to pull the thread out and try again. You should start with a simple rectangle skirt. It’s really simple, you just cut a waistband, fold it over and put elastic in it that’s your waist size, and take the rest of the fabric and do a running stitch and pull it until it matches the waistband and then stitch them together
