The plain versions of many of their watches are actually nice.
The regular Chiron, the Astronomia Sky, the Astronomia Casino, the regular Godfather, the ladies Fleur De Jardin are pretty cool watches. Even RM is trying to copy their automations.
In any case, they are marketing their watches pretty well and they are way better than RM watches.
They are not destroying the market they built a new segment. It's for the ultra rich who wants a sense of joy and awe. Not everything has to be a plain white dial with high polished markers like the Calatrava where people find art in nothingness. The astronima's are essentially functioning dioramas that rests on your wrists that gives you a feeling of owning a small world. Same for the casino watch or the Chiron where you wear something you love on your wrist.
Jacob is a jeweller who has studied watch making. Ofcourse some of his pieces are going to be blinged out. I myself don’t like iced watches but many of the regular versions of his watches are marvels of engineering.
His watches aren’t for the masses, it's for peoole who are now bored of buying 20 iterations of the Genta designs and 50 types of Daytonas. Rolex just comes with a new color scheme for a watch and calls it a different model where Jacob has literally put a functioning miniature solar system in a watch where the plate takes exactly an year to complete the rotation. If thats not insane, I don't know what is.
