This effect pays homage to the great Maestro W3 effects unit of 1971. Great video of the demo record: Maestro W-3. Demonstration Record 1971 The beauty of simple transistors functioning as sensitive VCA triggers tracks dynamics, and given a basic knowledge of Lc circuits, engineers could create very convincing real drum sounds based on Lc circuits with just one transistor, capacitor, inductor, and resistor network. Great stuff! I pre-ordered one for my birthday in May and recieved it in July. This thing is a ton of fun. It was my third order from Templo, and I've been impressed with each one.
I love how at the start of the video, when he turns on the fuzz, and for a little while thereafter, it sounds like such an impractical pedal. But then you start layering, and you're in instant retro-land with so many options. The pedal is more than $400, but quite worth it if you want to have these kinds of sounds at your disposal.
great pedal, but your comment is the only thing that makes me think the company is real. I just visited the website and there is nothing. no name, no address, just a gmail... I would never place an order there tbh. in which country are they even located? Nigeria? I bet it's not in the EU, stuff like that is illegal here...
The Kills use an original for quite a few of their songs for percussion. This new unit say’s it’s all analog. It sounds like they did a good job reengineering this.
The "Echo Repeat" sounds like it's modelled on the Vox Repeat Percussion effect that Vox sold as a plugin device (similar to very early fuzzboxes) but also put into some of their guitars. Made famous by Spacemen 3.
Good video man. I remember the old Maestro and a few other rhythm machines for guitar that were out in the 60s. They were good for their time I guess but I would never use one today
I'm guessing the "bass strings" is an amplitude envelope trigger on a sub-octave, possibly with some added sound shaping. The design process behind the original seems to have been "we've figured out how to trigger stuff when notes are played, what could we use that for?"
The Thomas Organ Rhythm Unit and dynamic response Playmate unit on organs controlled rhythm dynamics based on the upper. lower keyboards, and bass pedals overall volume output, which changes continually so it sounds very human. You could assign the great single transistor drum sounds to upper or lower manual with their quick access on the fly location rocker switches.
very cool sounding pedal. the fuzz reminds me of a standard NPN fuzz-face circuit. i like all the weirdness, but wish they had kept the PDP-11 style candy-colored toggle switches. :)
Damnit, this is amazing. I feel like this is the pedal Jack White just put out but this does it better. I wouldn't be surprised if he started using this.
I really appreciate that the "weird" pedals you showcase on the channel are for the most part either cheap or fairly priced! 300usd for this is really not bad. Same with the 200usd Blammo Space Madness. Don't get me wrong, brands like Walrus and Strymon and all that make WONDERFUL pedals, but damn are they pricey lol
Steve I think you should try a bass butler. I bought the Ampeg gst and it wasn’t dirty enough. I’m curious on Steve thoughts. No offense. But as a studio person I need more bass. lol. ❤ you both. More bass. I have all the guitar stuff.
Most likely an analog device. The original certainly was. :-) Maybe a hybrid? I MUST have one...just checked prices...maybe an early Xmas present to myself? Too much fun!!! Oh Yeah, signed up to Raview. Great app!
We had one of those Maestro boxes in our studio many years ago, when you could get even the weird and rare stuff from that era for pretty cheap. It was good for a laugh and an occasional sound effect, but eventually every user would try to shoehorn it in where it didn't belong or build a song around it. Much like our beloved Big Briar Ring Mod, every song built around the G2 was terrible. We sold it for five times what we paid.
That's awesome. If i ever need to do a porno soundtrack as a one man show, its good to know I'm covered, that things is a "brown chicken brown cow" machine. Great demo of a weird pedal!
Reminds me of my review of Worcestershire Sauce. It is the most disgusting thing... that I need on my food. P.S. I was rocking out to that track despite being dead tired, excellent work. Sincerely Mike B. B. From Philly, P.A. U.S.A.
seriously. Stop making me buy pedals. I did buy one just now. And also yes, please pass it on the them to also redo the USS-1, since they are 75% there.
It has some great sounds, but only when the pedal is the only pedal in the chain, especially for LIVE usage. It stacks really badly, in fact it's un-useable with other pedals. It might stack better via amp moddlers and DAW trickery, but being an old-school psychedelic-punk rocker, this doesn't cut the mustard in a live situation, unfortunately. If Templo can fix this issue it would be a bona-fide classic.

The fuzz and envelope filter together sounds exactly like the Rhubarb & Custard theme tune ❤❤❤love it
omg now thats a old reference right there !
That thing looks like wild amounts of fun! So freaking strange, and I love that.
Thanks Steve! That was great!

I am amazed that your Fender holds tune when you use the jiggle stick in a deep dive. Cool product.
its dialed in pretty nice right now. I keep wanting to put heavier strings on it but im afraid ill mess it up lol
Steve saves the day! Thank you...
Thank you steve
That is an all-timer. Thanks Steve!
I kinda love this pedal, it’s been so fun.
Thanks Steve!
Thank you, Ryan! We're glad you had fun with this demo :) Happy Halloween 👻
Happy Halloween!
Everything from templo is amazing. great sound

Went from Neuman to Devo to krautrock (Neu!) territory with that jam loop, great stuff!
Oh man, I really wanted a vintage unit but this would be awesome to get.
There is something very, "somethings gone wrong!" on The Fat Albert Show when the fuzz wau echo combination was engaged. Soundscape city all day.
time stamp?
@-jank-willson 16-20ish he said with a cartoon character wide eyed stare and agape jaw.
So rad. 60's kitsch down pat. The most original clone I've seen / heard
Steve is not just an appetizer or desert. He can be a main course. ❤😂
Sounds just like the demo record! Bravo! The vid-- *Maestro W-3. Demonstration Record 1971*
Using this with a Variax to trigger the rhythm on specific strings would be wild.

If I remember correctly, the Maestro multi effect is used on Childish Gambino’s(Donald Glover) song “Red Bone.”
It would be nice to read truly critical product reviews, now that no one else seems to have them.

Thank you Steve, YAY STEVE, Steve, thank you for your purchase. We thank you! You're super. (Not even joking, really.)
Playing with the "natural amp + color tones" switches gave me a "Goat - Goathead" vibe. 👍
You might find interesting a vintage guitar instruction video with the late Chris Squire of Yes. He shows a multi Switch unit from the 80's. Cheers!

Lo-fi to the Maximum .
Everything sounds broken,
so Cool 😎
An envelope filtered ring modulator 😮
Is Gonk-wah the right classification?
GAH ! It has been forever since I lusted for a new model guitar for any reason - but that Stratocaster is just fantastic.

Sounds like general fun pedal
THAAAAANKS STEEEEVE
I notice no one tags Steve. His channel like is not linked in the description I wanna tag Steve. Maybe I can’t read well.
Surf meets Ambient. Cool!
This thing is bonkers love it
When I saw a pedal that Steve dared call " Weird", you know I had to watch this video!!!😮😂
Boy you hit that description right. 70's low budget movie.
Ryan if you haven't demoed a BMG Special LE, you should. I think they can surf.
I had a Danelectro Sitar Swami pedal over twenty years ago. THAT was weird, lol
I would love to hear that used with an apprehension machine. If you know, you know
Plays one melody line drenched in fuzz and reverb, and says: "people keep telling me i ought to do movie soundtracks!" 😂
Did this Steve guy not have a chance to play with his purchase before he left for the moon? 😎
Looks way cooler than it sounds.
and it sounds pretty cool

The Wow Wow is not an "Envelope Filter" nor even an envelope follower; it's a triggered filter. Wild pedal, tho.
These are some waaaaay out sounds. Hats off to TemploDevices and the Maestro engineers of yesteryear.
Jajajaja the loop part part was cool , was like a trip on acid in the 60s , jajaja, I would titled it "The clown's attack" 🤣🤣🤣. THANKS STEVE , 👍🏻.
What do you have against Huey, News, and thanks?
Yay Steve!
Jack White would like that
Sounds like a constipated duck with the Fuzz & filter. Cool pedal.
Lol! I come to this channel to see and hear the weird. Of course!
i like that science fiction sounds.
Some Space 1999 shit going on right there!
Never seen a white Fender Jaguar before.
