He suffers from massive anxiety. Its so hard to comprehend. A man loved and respected for his craft but out of the movie the character face to face he cant barely function.
I think they both know exactly who they worked with esp in re to Sleepers. Both actors despite their greatness have acted in more poor movies than great ones. Sleepers was one of their better ones.

Well, I was a bit offended for De Niro. Hoffman touted "Midnight Cowboy". If De Niro had told me that he was my waiter on the night that Bobby Kennedy was assassinated, I sure would remember the story and tell it with respect. I'm Canadian and was 11 at the time and I've never ever forgotten the night that Bobby Kennedy was assassinated. Hoffman may have lost a friend with that one.
This is really one of the best late night television talk show segments, ever...A lotta people point out the obvious: DeNiro doesn't really like this format, and is uncomfortable doing it...But he knows it's funny when he plays to that...
