One of my favorite acceptance speeches of all time. The
greater the actor, the greater his humility. His ‘we are all in this together
attitude’ reflects on his decency as an individual and as an artist. Although
actors often are in competition with one another, they basically all go through
the same agonizing process of being prepared for years for an opportunity that
may not come. That is why I respect the
acting profession so very much. And I am one of those audience members who wish
I had the capability and gutsiness to do the same. Behind all the hoopla, glitz
and often phony glamour, are some very real people who are truly gifted.

Bay is Bae the Oscar ceremony was political long before it may or not be nowadays. Just two years prior to this ceremony, Vanessa Redgrave was booed for her political statements. In 1975, a statement was read by the winning documentary director from the Vietcong, prompting outrage. In 1973, Marlon Brando refused his Oscar and sent a Native American woman to refuse on his behalf.

+Nick Mayor He's given infinitely better performances than Lenny Bruce and even if he had won for it, he probably would have turned the award down because he was going thru a really snotty, self-righteous period. He had mellowed with age by the time he accepted for Rain Man. Got it out of his system, apparently.

Wow! I've still got tears in my eyes 2 minutes after listening to Dustin's acceptance speech. Tremendously humble, witty and candid. We don't realise how many actors never make it. I haven't watched Kramer v Kramer for many years, not since the first time. To some of us, and we are many, this movie is one we can relate to more than most. Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Peter Sellars, Roy Scheider. The great days of Hollywood!

One of the most heartfelt and greatest Oscar speeches of them all by Hoffman. It was relevant then and absolutely relevant now, more than ever in all industries. Those list of great all time classic films of the 1970s, what a decade, one of the very best for film in my opinion. And wasn't Jane Fonda the ultimate vixen back then, so beautiful looking.
