Recently I had a raid on my base, it was those blobs from the swamp, and they hopped over my walls and were able to attack my animals because I had no roof over them. They hopped right into the pen with them. So it's honestly probably a very good idea to build something like this to help protect them a little better. Thanks for the design 😊
Since my first and last bat raid, i learnt its just better to seal all the chickens containment, putting fire point at the outside. It's traumatizing to lose your 30 chiken farm without having saved some eggs xD
Best 'barn' for hens are the trollcaves. Of course, you have to ask its owner to sell it to you, but after that you put down a campfire surrounded by signs (two high), and it's ready to host your hens. If that cave is dry and has at least one built-in chest, it's even better.
The typical chicken coop design I have is two buildings - one a simple shed for the chickens to lay eggs (with no heat source), and a separate heated and enclosed cage for me to place eggs to grow into more chickens. That way I can control which eggs hatch and which don't. I want to experiment with combining both into a single building that still separates the egg layers from the hatchery. Hmm. I think I have just given myself a new mini-project. :)

In my current game, the chickens are in the basement of my house.
Chickens In The Basement, sounds like a B-Horror Movie aha good idea though never thought of doing that would make it a very safe haven for them.
