Its easy when you know how, but starting out it does appear like a massive mountain. You just have to keep practising. Try remixing other peoples characters, seeing how they have made them. You havent scoped in properly so instead of being part of the sculpted body it is part of the general puppet. You need to scope in one more down at least. Keep scoping in until it wont let you any more - then you know you are adding to the part and not the puppet generally.
I got this game with high hopes.. but after fiddling it for a bit.. Sculpting and Animating without a move controller is pure torture.. Especially if you are used to doing those things professionally.. Can we not have a mouse and keyboard in this game?
This isnt a PC game. The controls are the PS4 controls. It took me 3 days to get used to the imp and 3 weeks before I was comfortable sculpting, so just bear with it. It will suddenly make sense.

Dreams with LadylexUK with all due respect I have an art degree and have sculpted plenty. Let’s not pretend dreams sculpting and real sculpting is the same thing.
With all due respect I have been playing Dreams for over a year, and I am telling you that these tools are pretty great once you get used to them - this is not real sculpting- it is not even digital 3d modelling in the normal sense, this is Dreams. Learn it, practice and you will get better. Or quit now. They are not going to change very much to make sculpting easier for you. This is the state it is in after 10 years work.
Having an issue with changing puppet proportions: even following what you said about dragging it down to meet the floor, it stops above the purple section and still won’t run.
Everything will go grey apart from the bit you are scoped into. When you say cannot apply paint, do you mean the spraypaint? If you have altered the puppets colour using the coat mode or the colour wheel in the tweak menu that will override any spraypaint. I will do a quick vid.
Dreams with LadylexUK Thank you very much. I’ve followed your video numerous times but missed you ‘Scoping In’ when you painted the puppet. Great video. Thank you. I do have a question: everytime I stretch the puppet, especially making shorter characters, he stops walking, or he will only move one leg as if he's on a skateboard. I always make sure he is on the stand. Any ideas?
Adam Quinton I had this problem too for a while. I kept trying to decrease the leg length and move the whole puppet towards the ground to make it shorter, this never worked. The way I got around it was just grabbing the pelvic and moving it down, shortening the legs while keeping it planted on the floor. Hope this helps
I think I can help! When placing your clothes you need to group them to their corresponding body parts. For instance, for a shirt you would hold R2 to move it then (while still holding R2) hold L1 and press X while hovering your imp over the body part selected. If done correctly it should group them together and you should be scoped in to the shirt and torso! All of this is explained in the tutorial 'Character Art'. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
I had a weird problem so I made my character then went into view mode and possessed it and when it was trying to look at the Imp it's head was spinning around all weird then disappeared but the hair, hat, and all that stayed, so I went back into edit mode to try and see if I broke something, but then the characters head was completely gone and so is the hat only the hair is left and hitting undo didn't do anything to fix it, have you ever had this happen or what could've caused it? The head just to keep it easy for myself I didn't give eyes or a mouth to keep it simple so I'm wondering if I can just use the head from a different puppet and attach it somehow and just re add the hair/hat.
an we also create allies in our games? So we can make medieval games with an army or can we only create up to 4 players and enemies but no allies who help you in the battle? And if we can, can we give them orders like following us??
People have made armies in Dreams, but not with the mannequin because it is too logic heavy to clone many times as it causes lag and fills the gameplay thermo. Allies can be made to follow and attack enemies. You are limited to probably around 15 before you get any real issues.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK thanks for the reply, 15 is better then nothing :) And will there probably come performance updates to improve the gameplay or it stay like that, do you know anything?
You havent scoped into the body parts, only the puppet as a whole. You need to make sure your clothes are specifically for a single part of the body, and make sure you are scoped right in when you attach them.
Hi I have a question: I have followed your tutorial, I am scoped in I make a duplicate of the torso to make a T shirt, I colour it with spray paint, cut a neckline, make sure to uncheck moveable but when i possess the puppet, when I move the T shirt stays with the puppet and moves with the puppet but only in its original position, so it appears to be getting left behind a little. Hope i've explained the problem well enough for you to understand. Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks :)
Hello, I've been watching your tutorials, and they are helpful and great. But in this one, I've watched it and watched, and when I sculpt the puppets' clothes on, they just float behind the puppet it doesn't stay on him. Even tho I made it non movable. Do u have any idea why and how I can fix this?
You are not scoping into the body parts far enough. If you just get as far as the puppet they will float - you have to keep scoping in multiple times until you hit the shapes themselves.

Thx for this! Though I do have a question, how do I make hands? I’m trying to make an FPS like Cry of Fear and I don’t know how to model my character holding a knife for example. Could you tell me or show me how? Thanks! :)
Hands are one of the difficult things. As long as you are not someone who has to make everything yourself I would recommend using the hands ready made in the dreamiverse. That is what I do. There are lots to choose from in different styles from low poly to realistic, and most are poseable so you can make them grip weapons etc. Just scope attach the hands to the blue ones, and make the blue ones invisible.
How do you get your imp to line up with the puppet, I’ve been trying to get some sculpt on my puppet but my imp just gets staying behind the puppet and not lined up at all making it hard to make anything.
I dont really understand what you mean. I am trying to visualise what the imp "staying behind the puppet" could actually be referring to but I really do not understand what you are trying to describe. You can only sculpt onto a puppet if you are scoped in - are you doing that?
Loved this tutorial and other videos! I had a quick question. The got the intro, little bit of story mode, imp mission, and tutorials done. Yet the game is not giving me an option to choose this puppet and create character. Start from scratch only let's me sculpt and don't see an option to drop a puppet or anything like that. Do I have to beat the story mode and do more before the game let's me do that? Menu is a bit confusing in this game. Thank you very much in advance! :)
Go into elements/scene. Go to Gadgets and find Gameplay Gear and drop a puppet in. You can now sculpt on the puppet. They changed a few menu things last week with the launch, so it does not look exactly the same.
Hmm... I'm at the step where you do the sleeves of the shirt... My mirror doesn't work... :/ It is mirroring in the wrong direction... Do you know what I did wrong or how I can change the mirror settings? I did switch the mirror in the doll settings on, but it doesnt effect the "clay" I use...
It sounds like you are working on the wrong arm. Sometimes you can get muddled as to which shape you are controlling, and then it all goes a bit wrong. You cannot change the mirror settings. Its a complete pain but the mirror position is fixed from the first sculpt stamp you do, and in the case of the puppet it is fixed down the center of the original mannequin.
Omg! What a fast respond! Thank you very much! I fixed it. You are right. I selected the arm, so there was a mirror at the arm. after selecting the chest it was mirror like i wanted it to. Thank you very much! :)

Any info, help, or work arounds would be greatly appreciated!
Group? Do you mean scope? They are different. If you make your belt as a separate sculpt then scope it in to your pelvis section it is still a separate object. You do not need to remove it from your sculpt to recolour it. Just scope into it and spraypaint or open its tweak menu and play with the tint. I have no idea what you are doing that would delete anything, but then I dont know why you are removing things to paint them.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK I scoped into the puppet, made a hollowed out cylinder sculpture and added it onto of the bottom half of the legs to make ot look like my guy was wearing boots. Whenwver I got the scult into place I grouped it to that same bottom half of the leg. Then realized I need to go back and recolor the leg part but not the boot, to make identifical white, blue, green, and orange characters for players 1-4. Whenever I scope back in then scope in again to the 2 grouped pieces (the leg and the cylinder boot part) I have to ungroup them to recolor the cylinder, except whenever I oress ungroup it deletes the heel of the foot and all associated bolts and ball joints that make the puppet work. I tried recreating the bolts and joints after fixing my color, but it never turned out the same. No matter how confusing this is I think I learned my lesson and just went with a fully colored boot. I could send pictures or a video and stuff to maybe hepp you understand, but that seems like it'd be too much trouble. I am working on a recreation of Lode Runner: The Legend Returns and was trying to make the white and blue characters look identical to the ones from the original game. @@saiyanraisedonearth7315 You are doing this all wrong, and that is why you are having issues. NEVER EVER GROUP OBJECTS ON A PUPPET SCULPT. NEVER EVER UNGROUP THE PUPPET. There you are. Scope only. Scope your clothing onto the puppet, do not add them using the group tool.

Please, help me! I've tried now for several days, nights and weeks! I am trying to create a knight. I start of with the puppet called "Seamless Black Puppet (female)" or something (sorry about the credit, it's not made by me). I follow this tutorial; clone the torso, make some adjustmenst by blending in some shapes, colouring and making it into a shirt by resizing it. Then I drag it back onto the puppet. When I start the simulation, the torso drops to the floor (?) and the puppet slants to one side. I've tried grouping it together, but I think maybe I'm grouping it with the wrong part? Is there a tutorial on grouping? Scoping in? I've tried making the shirt immovable, but no change -- the torsi plummets to the ground. Sometimes alone, and other times the main torso falls with it. I've been attempting to make the same f'ing knight now for a week, and I always rage-quit because I don't understand the error -- I don't understand why this happens! What am I doing wrongly?
Unselect moveable on the shirt. It is falling to the floor because of gravity. So once you have made it non-moveable, grab it, and then scope into your torso until you cannot scope in any more and let go.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK Scope in until you can't scope in anymore, ok, gotcha! I will try this tonight. Do you need to group the "shirt torso" to the torso?
@@Carnophage No, scoping is what you need to do. This is what I tell everyone about grouping: Grouping is for moving things around your scene. Scoping things together is to make two sculpts act as one sculpt. They look the same, but the results are different.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK Thank you, LadyLex for your time and patience. I will try this when I am home from work. How do you get it to where whatever you do on one arm happens to the other? I know how to do mirrors on specific parts but not to the whole character. Can anyone help me out?
The arms legs and feet on the mannequin are live clones. If the scope into one it will do the same action to the other. So you do not have to do anything it will work automatically. If you are making your own rigged character you will need to use live cloning (it is the icon that looks like 2 sheep).
Hi once again! So I've been sculpting plenty on my character just fine but for some reason the part of my shoe that I scultped onto the main part of the foot is flying around when any animation plays other than the procedural ones. The moveable setting is turned off and I know I grouped it to the foot correctly. I have it like a second sculpt around the puppet's foot. Are the connectors messing it up?
@@KawaiiKirrianna Its hard to say what is going on. I have not seen what you are describing when scoping in a non moveable sculpt . However, did you perhaps make the animations before you scoped in the additional parts? Perhaps you need to re-do the keyframes with the sculpts scoped in.
Can some one please get this message to Media Molecule, I cant seem to get it to them. Hi :) I have some important info about improvements that needs to be made in Dreams. Improvement 1: When a player goes to delete a creation they made, it automatically wants to delete all creations that creation is in, this is HORRIBLE. Player needs to be able to un-select that which they don't want deleted so it only deletes desired selection. Improvement 2: When player creates object and then saves it as an individual sculpture, The game needs to NOT keep that individual sculpt linked to anything else in area the sculpt was originally created in, as is it does and this is bad, it makes it so if player ever deletes the area the sculpture was originally created in, the game will force you to delete the sculpture that is sitting in it's own save. Improvement 3: Players need to be able to create and save a collection (Not to be confused with other saved collections function) of there own starting setup areas. You know how when a player clicks on create new sculpture and it brings the player into an area to create things in, and all there is to start is a little peach floor. Well instead of this a player could have an area they have created and then saved as startup area for creating. Example: Lets say a player creates an area that looks like a science lab and then they not only save the creation itself, but they also have the option to save it as a starting area for each time they select create new sculpture. P.S. I LOVE DREAMS Well done MM :)
Take another look at the video. If you are not able to stretch parts of the body then you have either got into the wrong mode, been using the wrong tool, or have tried to stretch something that is not connected to something else - objects only stretch if they have connectors. Here is another video on stretching that may help dreamskool.wordpress.com/2019/11/29/stretching-sculpts/
Thanks. Also, when I try to add a sculpture to a body part ( following your steps with the shirt) the added part will not stay put. It just floats up into the body. It’s starting to annoy me since I’m doing everything I can think of. I’ve even had it work previously.
Don’t worry. Sorted it out. I was changing movability after adding it to the group. It was changing the entire groups movability this making everything go everywhere.
Am I missing something everytime I clone the torso and do this it just clips through the doll and falls through the floor even when I group them together?
You dont group them you scope them. Think of grouping as a way of moving things around easier. To get an object to be part of another you have to scope in. Hold the object and scope into the shape or part of the body you want to attach it to. If your torso is falling to the floor then you still have it set to moveable. You need to untoggle that in its tweak menu or it will just fly off after scoping it in.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK Is that when you hold onto the object then hold L1 and press X? Cause if so I tried that and its still falling, perhaps I am somehow accidentally undoing it?
If the object is falling that means it is moveable, otherwise it would just float where you put it. So, you need to open its tweak menu and untoggle moveable. Then scope it in. This should solve your problem.
I only get to blend what I have scoped in and I'm assuming it doesn't blend with the rest of the body if I have it Scoped on a specific part of the body 🤔 at least I don't see it blended 🤔 or am I wrong?

They are a nightmare, but yes I have managed to get a scoreboard to work. the instructions are in the hints for the gadget. When you are ready to post the score send a pulse to the post score input in the score gadget.
And yes, it takes time to learn the controls, but believe me when I tell you it will suddenly click for you if you keep at it, and then you will wonder why you had a problem before. It took me 3 days to get used to the imp and 3 weeks before I was comfortable sculpting, so just bear with it. It will suddenly make sense.
I tried following along with you doing the same things you did on my PS4. And I couldn’t do half of the things you did. So frustrating. There has to be an easier way to sculpt in this game. I hope they fix it
There is nothing to fix. Sculpting gets easier with practice, just like the real thing.
You have to get the feet touching the purple section or it wont run.
When I try to paint my puppet it turns grey and it’s not possible to apply the paint. What am I doing wrong please?
Same
Everything will go grey apart from the bit you are scoped into.
It looks as if you ‘Scoped In’ on different parts of the puppet at the same time, is that correct please? Yes, I was using the spray paint.
Many thanks for all of your videos, which I will work through as/if I get the hang of it.😉
@@DreamswithLadylexUK yes I have this problem as well every time I want to spary paint my puppet while I'm scoped in the colour changes to the colour of the puppet and is impossible to change the spray paint to a different colour like if I had a red puppet and I wanted to spray paint the head blue the paint turns red and I am locked out of using different colours this happens with other puppets in the (dream a verse) why is this plz plz help it's so annoying
Thank you for this video, very helpful!!
You did a great job at explaining how to do this.
Tysm I tried making my first model today and failed hardcore so this was very helpful
Great video. Thank you. I do have a question: everytime I stretch the puppet, especially making shorter characters, he stops walking, or he will only move one leg as if he's on a skateboard. I always make sure he is on the stand. Any ideas?
Adam Quinton
I had this problem too for a while. I kept trying to decrease the leg length and move the whole puppet towards the ground to make it shorter, this never worked. The way I got around it was just grabbing the pelvic and moving it down, shortening the legs while keeping it planted on the floor.
Hope this helps
Can you help I’ve done the same as you but my clothes stay still and not follow on the puppet
@@DreamswithLadylexUK thanks for the reply, 15 is better then nothing :)
And will there probably come performance updates to improve the gameplay or it stay like that, do you know anything?
My characters clothes are following behind him instead of staying attached. How do I fix that?
You havent scoped into the body parts, only the puppet as a whole. You need to make sure your clothes are specifically for a single part of the body, and make sure you are scoped right in when you attach them.
Dreams with LadylexUK okayy thank you
Does anyone know if these tips work for Americans?
Thank you for the tutorial ^^! Will definitely use this in the future!!
Thank youu Lady. Excellent as always^^

Thanks :)
God...your brain is so huge, thanks a lot you've helped me so much
Hello, I've been watching your tutorials, and they are helpful and great.
@Dreams with LadylexUK ooo oki thank you :]
Hello i was wondering how are you doing so when you enter sculpting mode nothing turns grey and everything stay in colors? Because everytime i enter sculpt or other menu everything turns gray even the sky and for you its always blue

@@DreamswithLadylexUK Thank you so much for the reply!!
@@DreamswithLadylexUK I've done the same thing but I can't sculpt on the puppet (I've scoped in)
I cannot answer your question. If you scope into the puppet, you get sculpt mode and you can sculpt. If you are not getting that then I dont know??
I wish u included the simple steps on how to get to that menu instead of starting there... this game is a bit confusing
This video was made during early access. Dreams does not look like this anymore.
Amazing video... even tho I do not have it but at least I am learning from you :)
Keep up with the videos!
How do you stop you're Charecter model from falling apart??
Why would it fall apart?
@@DreamswithLadylexUK
Propably because all the parts weren't grouped,
& Sometimes it freaks out how would I fix that??
@@elongatedmanforever1252 I do not know what you are doing. The character models do not fall apart if you are handling them correctly. If you are adding items to it you need to scope them in not group them. They must also be non moveable objects or they will fall.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK
Thank you, Sorry this is my first time using it,
I'm still working it out.
Every time i clone the torso it falls, why?
11:23 try this
For some reason whenever I group together, say for example a belt onto my puppet, but then want to go back and recolor it, whenever I ungroup the belt from the puppet it deletes all of the puppets joints connected to that part of the body.. it's so frustrating having to remake my entire puppet from the ground up just because I want to change the color of a specific piece I added onto him.
Idk if this helped clarify or not, but thank you for the quick response.
@@saiyanraisedonearth7315 You are doing this all wrong, and that is why you are having issues. NEVER EVER GROUP OBJECTS ON A PUPPET SCULPT. NEVER EVER UNGROUP THE PUPPET. There you are. Scope only. Make parts of your puppet that will be different colours a different sculpt. Then you can scope into them and change them whenever you need to, without taking your puppet apart. Scope your clothing onto the puppet, do not add them using the group tool.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK Thank you so much for the response, I will try this method. I did not realize I was doing it wrong.
I think the thing was that my cylinder was not staying attached to the puppet whenever I went to control him, so I grouped them together so it would stay. Idk like I said I will go try this new method tho and see what happens.
what's the shortcut you used at 13:57 to toggle mirroring?
I just scoped into the model L1+X. The mirroring happened because that was how the original mannequin was made with a mirror.

One more question, "now that I have your attention": I''m planning on making a knight (I have a big project in mind, learning as I go). The knight is going to wear armor pieces that consists of a cuirass, pauldrons, gauntlets/gloves, greaves and boots. On top of, or more accurately; underneath; I will have a thin layer of clothing that represents regular clothing (a type of gown or "skirt"). There will be a lot of sculpting and "attaching".
Thank you!

Grouped? If you didnt scope it to the foot you are going to have problems.
@@DreamswithLadylexUK I'm sorry yes I meant scoped in not grouped
@@KawaiiKirrianna Its hard to say what is going on. I have not seen what you are describing when scoping in a non moveable sculpt . However, did you perhaps make the animations before you scoped in the additional parts? Perhaps you need to re-do the keyframes with the sculpts scoped in.

Hey how do you go to the brows and create menu
This tutorial was made during Early Access, and Dreams menu system was changed. You no longer choose what to make from a menu before creating.
Post this to the forum. forums.indreams.me/hc/en-gb/community/topics/360001151297-Ideas
been trying to stretch it for an hour on ps4... no luck
Is there a way to limit the movement of body parts? i.e. not letting the leg kick too high. Thank you.
Check the connector tweak menu ( L1 + square) on the pink bit to see if there are limiters set. You can change that as you need.
@@BaylissImaginationstation You are not scoping in to the body part. It will float if you only scope into the puppet as a whole

@@jkbkr123 Make sure your watch is not set to be moveable.

It does not exist anymore not since 2019. You now see the options when you save, not when you start.

They are a nightmare, but yes I have managed to get a scoreboard to work. the instructions are in the hints for the gadget. Basically you need to send your score to a score modifier which then sends the score to a score gadget (make sure the names are the same) (I recommend you constantly update that throughout the game - there is a tweak button for that. When you are ready to post the score send a pulse to the post score input in the score gadget. You need to put your level in a Dream for it to work, and the Dreams must be launched to public or private.
