Dear Mr. Kuga. Thank you for taking us on your Journey on the Caledonian Sleeper. You made me happy and most of all you made Japan Happy.. may you have good journeys and stories to tell in the future. 👍👍👍
I traveled on the old train back in 2014, I felt like a Zombie in the morning, I didn’t have a room as money was tight, but I managed, loved my time in Glasgow, I was a volunteer at the Commonwealth games.
Living in Northern Ireland in the 1980s, I used to get the sleeper from Stranraer to Euston Station and back for business purposes, it was just a lovely way to travel. Glad to see that they are keeping up standards on this Caledonian Sleeper.
thank you for the excellent video. I took this train from Glasgow to London last Summer and loved it. I too booked a first class room all to myself and have souvenir shampoo in my bathroom. You passed by my family's home when you went through Motherwell. I live in NYC but my mom was from Scotland and I've watched every Caledonian Sleeper video on TH-cam. You've captured it beautifully .. hope you enjoyed Glasgow!
Thank you for the amazing movie and amazing experience. I felt like I was traveling with you. I am waiting for the next railway films. Take care, greetings from Poland.
Your videos are THE best at helping me get into a nice, chill mindset before going to bed. Thanks for all your hard work and for taking us along on your trips!
Thanks for my first visit to your channel. I loved the overnight train ride from London to Glasgow. Hope to see more of your travels. Thanks for the subtitles as I am deaf. Cheers from Australia.
@@kugastravel5180 we are subscribed. You would,d love the Indian pacific that goes from East Coast to West Coast and back. Also the Ghan that goes from Adelaide to Darwin right up North.
Other people may have told you this already, but in the USA, Amtrak sleeper trains have two major types of rooms: small roomettes that are only a couple of seats that fold down to make a bed, and larger bedrooms that also have a combined shower-toilet compartment like what you had here. There are also separate showers on the sleeping cars, but they do not have tokens, nor do they cost extra like on the Japanese Sunrise train. (My wife and I rode the Cassiopeia sleeper in Japan between Sapporo and Tokyo Ueno in 2007 and I'm glad we had the chance to do so before JR started cutting back on the sleepers. I only wish I could have booked one of the deluxe rooms on that trip -- now I'll never have the chance.) I rode the Sleeper from Glasgow to London in 2015 when it had the previous generation of equipment, and it was not a great experience. I am glad to see that the new Mk 5 sleepers are a big improvement. My wife and I plan to go to Glasgow in 2024, and taking this train is definitely on our list of things to do, especially if we can get a room like the one in which you traveled here. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Sadly, the train in so fast that 8 hours of sleep is impossible, and the complimentary breakfast further shortens it, not to mention room service. Dinner is unthinkable, the trains departs at midnight. When the price hits 400 dollars, perhaps something more than a microwaved porridge would make sense as a breakfast treat. Not that you had time to eat it on board. So, all the improvements are wasted owing to the schedule.
Obviously you like to plan ahead and if you have concrete plans then I would suggest you book the Caledonian Sleeper as far ahead as possible. Reason: if you want the double room, it's most likely to be the one that will sell out first. It's usually available for booking 1 year in advance. I'm not involved in promoting any business but as a reasonably seasoned traveller, I like people to enjoy the countries they visit. Happy to help if I can with your visit to Scotland.
I visited Scotland in March which was a dream trip for me. I still can't really believe I was there! I spent a lot of time on the train as a solo traveler not confident about driving on the other side and it was a very peaceful and beautiful experience. I've been really excited for you to get to travel farther afield again and do so many iconic train trips, it's very cool to see people do stuff you know means a lot to them Edit: I just saw the end! There are so many seagulls everywhere there!
Fantastic!! A really big bed for one person. Have never seen before. That's a great idea for the future. Other countries may have a look of this concept.
I had been following up your videos and quit surprised that you'd come to the UK. As a Chinese living in the UK, your videos in Japan brought me the exotic sensation yet a bit familiar (for sharing some common ground culturally) But this video is the other way around, it is familiar to me but exotic for you being in it.
I reccomend you try the Night Riviera Sleeper train from London Paddington to Penzance in Cornwall. It's a journey I think you will never forget. From Penzance, you can catch either a plane or ferry to the Isles of Scilly.
Great video, I watch all your ones on Japan's trains - glad you enjoyed your trip on the sleeper. There is also a daily Caledonian Sleeper which runs from Euston to Aberdeen / Inverness / Fort William that I often use (but not in the most expensive room!) The Fort William one is the one I like best - it leaves London about 21:00 and gets to Fort William about 10:00, and goes through some beautiful mountain scenery in the morning.
My favorite part were the beautiful morning countryside landscapes. I saw heather growing near the track’s side! Also, I like the souvenir amenity bag’s artwork.
I stay just outside of Glasgow! Was a surprise when I seen your video with Glasgow in the name. I hope you love Scotland as much as I do living here! 🏴❤️
Dear witty loveable Kuga. Mind you, it boggled my mind to have paid so much for such a short journey with hardly any sleep involved. Still, it seemed a fairly smooth ride and, yes, the Scottish scenery was lovely. I wait to see where you go next! Robert, UK.
I've been watching your videos for some time now, seeing travel in Japan is fascinating but to see your view on travel in my own country is even more exciting! Welcome to Scotland!
Ooh, you stopped in Preston briefly overnight! That's very close to where I live. 😊 I hope you enjoyed your experience visiting the UK and on the Caledonian Sleeper!
At least you understand that we use different dialects over here in Britain. I understand that the gap between American English (which I think might be the one you are used to, please correct me if I am wrong) and British English is about the same size as the one between Kansai Japanese and Tokyo Japanese. The reason it says "31% Cocoa" on the chocolate bar label is due to a law that food sold in Britain must contain at least 20% cocoa solids before it can be sold as chocolate. The train also stops at Watford Junction to pick up passengers. Preston is pretty much the last English station before the Sleeper heads to Scotland. That's some real Scotch Mist. Scotland is the coldest home nation of the United Kingdom. Of course it is as clean as a bullet train. Both our sleeper trains are luxury trains. The shoe polisher is because some people actually ride the Sleeper on business, and it helps to look your best before a big meeting. Yes, it is pretty common to mix sugar or honey or golden syrup into porridge to give it some taste, you are doing it right. And the whole warming effect is why porridge is a popular hot breakfast in Britain, especially during winter. That porridge oat bar is useful if you are "on the go". Motherwell is one of the first Scottish stations you see on the Sleeper route. And there is no jetlag when riding a train.
Being familiar with sleeper trains in Britain, will entirely recommend the Cornish Riviera, I was interested in knowing your thoughts as a tourist. A brilliant video.
Upmost kudos for doing travel outside of Japan, you are the only Japanese travel channel I know who does travel vids outside of Japan, your content is humourous & done very well. Glad you liked the porridge, you can add almost any fruit or nuts/seeds & sweetners in, even coca to make it chocolate flavour :D I look forward to the rest of your travels in the UK :D
I'm so happy to see you visit Scotland! I hope you got to see the Highlands during your visit. St. Pancras is one of my favourite stations, it is so beautiful...Euston, not so much! I did the Caledonian Sleeper 17 years ago, so I should really do it again. I usually end up getting the day train when I visit London (you can sometimes be lucky and get first class cheaper than a normal seat on that train!). The Caledonian Sleeper can be pricey which is one reason I haven't done it in so long. I'm hoping the next video is you doing the day train up into the Highlands as the trip to Fort William or Mallaig is beautiful. I like that the sleeper uses the Arran Aromatics brand for its toiletries - they do really nice products. I think they have the shoe cleaner because the train is popular with hillwalkers. I hope you enjoyed your visit to Glasgow!
I hope you enjoyed your time in Glasgow, Scotland; I was stationed in Dunoon, Scotland which was around 36 miles/58 kilometers west of it. Took the trains (especially the sleeper but they weren’t nice back in the late 80’s to early 90’s, as they are now), buses, ferries and some planes, everywhere, when I was there. Loved Edinburgh and Inverness too; shame I didn’t see Nessie (The Lochness monster) when I was there but I tried. The Scottish people left a good feeling to my time there in my soul and yeah, there seagulls everywhere there, like in Florida (where I Live). 😅 Thank you for sharing your time with us all and stay safe in your overseas travels. 🥰😇
As someone who lives in Scotland, I'm glad you got to try out the new Sleeper trains. They only just replaced the old stock a couple of years back. Compared to the old tired stock from the (early 90s?), this new sleeper is clean, slick, modern and has a lot of up to date facilities to cater to todays passengers. You never got a shower/ toilet in your room in the past, or USB ports or anything else for that matter. On the plus side, great to see they provide food, drink and toiletries from Scottish Suppliers! Mackies make brilliant chocolate, and our water is ace too. (Personal note: Shame they didn't supply Strathmore water!) The menu with a Scottish-y theme is good, and porridge and a hot drink never goes wrong.
There is also a daily night sleeper service to Fort William in the Western Highlands. It leaves London Euston at about 9 pm. The scenery after passing through Glasgow is awesome! In the Summer season you can connect at Fort William with the steam train service to Mallaig, also a very scenic train journey which passes over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous in the Harry Potter films. And as well as the Glasgow service shown in this video, there are sleeper services to Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Dundee, Montrose, Stonehaven and Aberdeen on the east coast of Scotland.
With the Club Car not serving meals you should have got a little bit of money back on your ticket, you can claim from the Sleeper offices if you haven't :)
Indeed the Club Car is one of this train's attractions and especially for travellers from overseas. Scottish specialities are served in the evening upon departure.
I agree, for almost 400 USD and 7 and 1/2 hour train ride, there was not much value for the money. The scenery was fine, but you could have gotten that in coach seating for less than 1/2 price.
It’s extremely common for them not to serve meals. I went in February and it was the same plus the train was so bouncy neither me or my girlfriend could sleep
Hope you had a good time in Scotland. I live in Scotland and have taken the sleeper a few times. It runs as far as Aberdeen to London, so the journey can be a few hours longer. No, we do not normally have showers in the toilet lol, but I guess they had to get creative with space. I believe the loading gauge for UK trains is one of the most restrictive due to our generally very old rail systems. As for porridge, you add honey to taste - so some people (like myself) don't want our porridge sweetened, others like a dash, and I guess some people chuck the whole pot in!
Here in Levin NZ .. we have porridge, or more accurately, rolled oats, every day, all year. Never add honey ..or salt.. but a sliced banana goes well plus a little milk.
You can tell how restrictive UK's loading gauge is when here in New Zealand it takes very little modification to run your 1435mm track gauge carriages on our 1067mm tracks.
Thank you so much. I live in a village not too far from London , but I don’t travel there unless I’ve been kidnapped 😊 . Scotland is an absolutely beautiful place. Loved this 😘
Good reviews, the sleeper looked great,. Definitely try the night Rivera sleeper to Penzance., That's excellent too ☺️, Edinburgh is a beautiful city to visit then Newcastle too
thank you for showing us this great trip from london to glasgow. the room looked great, i too would love to have a personal toilet/shower . back in 2019 i travelled to the Baltics, and there was a shower over the toilet like in your room. i found out that you MUST close the toilet lid and then shower, as it got absolutely soaked with water. i dont like this idea, but if your in desperate need of a shower... it will do. look forward to more of your travel vids
My wife and I took this trip on the sleeper in 2018 - your documentary was very evocative - brought back some of the feelings for us both. Love your comments, brief, to the point, and sort of Japanese too :+) Another night train we liked was the Rome to Catania (Sicily) one - the train gets loaded onto a ferry while you sleep, get off the train in Catania (or Palermo) for espresso and cornetto.
Thanks for this video, Kuga! I have been wanting to do this journey for such a long time and your video has made me more determined to take this train. Great job!
Welcome to the UK. I hope that you can try the other sleeper service to the southwest of England too, I wonder if you can hear the difference in the spoken accents? Its not every day I see a photon travelling as slowly as a UK train. I thought your slipper looked great after you polished it; I used one of those machines in a hotel once and charged myself up to about 250,000 volts and gave myself a huge electric shock as a 20cm spark went from my hand to a water pipe. Of course I stayed to the end - it was a Kuga video! You were very lucky to have dry sunny weather in Scotland.
My memory of the trip from Dundee was in the lounge car with oil workers from Aberdeen and whisky. I put my partner on a 68 bus outside Euston and went to work
@3:39 - the 'currently restricted' services are probably due to the general staff shortages in low paid casual jobs that most 1st world countries are experiencing, nothing to do with 'strikes'. This was obviously not a perfect train journey, and not cheap either, but shits all over what's available in the US. Having said that, I did love the Amtrak staff trying to make the best of their crap infrastructure, including their rolling stock. They were lovely people in my experience, and really wanted the best for you despite what they had to work with in America's post-railway economy.
Yay! Glad to see you back in my watchlist Kuga san! Hope you're having fun and looking forward to watching your adventures in Europe! Come to Australia sometime but don't travel on our XPT service, you'll be very sad I think!
Hi, I'm from England, but I've travelled to Japan many times. (Actually, I live near the station for the Harry Potter tour.) I'm glad to see you enjoyed your journey. Everything looks very nice on that train, but the price is absolutely inexcusable. I'm sure you would pay half of that for the same experience in Japan - and that was only a one-way ticket. Anyway, I subscribed. Enjoy your time in Scotland, it's a beautiful place!
Thanks for this wonderful video. I lived in Scotland way back in the 60’s so great to see the modernization of Glasgow central Station. Warm memories 🙏🏻🇨🇦🙏🏻 28:15
This is a very interesting video and was very relaxing! I appreciate your fresh style and approach. These are 2 cities (3 if you include Paris that you mentioned) that I once visited just the way you did. I took ground and ferry (Dover) travel, though. I will watch more of your videos. Thank you for sharing it.
We have three (or four) ones like it, the main ones being the Canadian (Toronto to Vancouver, 4 days) and the Ocean (Montreal to Halifax, 21 hours) as well as the Rocky Mountaineer out west.
Next time, you must try the Intercity Night Train from Milan to Syracuse accross the Italy, in deluxe excelsior night sleeper coach, for a 19 hours of ride from north italy to south italy 💪🏼
A positive outlook, uk presenters have said how The corridor is a little narrow, this gentleman from Japan, remarks , 'more room to sleep in' . Thank you. Patrick, Northamptonshire
This is a great video. I have travelled in the standard cabin on this train before. It has bunk beds and no shower or toilet (but you can use the shared toilet cubicle, and the shoe shiner, as shown in this video). There is a shower block at Glasgow Central Station where I think it costs £5 for a hot shower in a large space that's not moving, so really worth it after a night on the sleeper!

@@neville132bbk Grew up having only brown sugar added. Cafe Porridge was a huge shock...So much stuff added you can't taste the porridge!
@@neville132bbk sorry, but porridge without salt is🤢. Salt is a must have for my porridge.
Who adds honey? No true scot that’s for sure.
Thanks Kuga for letting the world that us British can do train travel properly.... a good video.
Other ( British TH-camr) have been quite critical. Cold showers. Dirty sinks and hard bed etc. It is v expensive and the food wasn’t first class.
@moogmike1 you have got to be kidding. Watch the videos on train travel in Japan and see how it is done. We are third world compared to them.
Last time, my friends told me a way to get bigger discounts for rail trips. so i plan to have a rail trip
Thank you for sharing this. Would love to do this trip. Scotland is a beautiful country, I am going there this year.
Can't wait to watch more videos of your trips
Thank you so much. I live in a village not too far from London , but I don’t travel there unless I’ve been kidnapped 😊 . Scotland is an absolutely beautiful place. Loved this 😘
Thanks for sharing your journey. Narrow hallway would make this train difficult for someone using a walker (I use it about 50% of the time).
Such a lovely trip, great sleeper car! Nice amenities but the food looked terrible! Love traveling with you ❤️
I always find that with the sweet the ugly looking ones taste the best.
Happy to see you back my friend, I missed your videos !
Great job!
Ohh my God. My memories become fresh of thus journey. Very scenic track
That's so cool! I also went to Scotland last month and I really liked Glasgow. I hope you enjoyed your visit.
This is the first time I am seeing your beautiful face Kuga! So handsome! Can't wait to see the video now!
Scotland is beautiful, Ireland also, you must have enjoyed your travel on Caledonian sleeper train 🚃👍♥️
Waiting for more travels from Europe ☺️
impressive porridge eating skills; and, I like your snazzy jacket ✌
Welcome to the UK. I hope that you can try the other sleeper service to the southwest of England too, I wonder if you can hear the difference in the spoken accents? Its not every day I see a photon travelling as slowly as a UK train. I thought your slipper looked great after you polished it; I used one of those machines in a hotel once and charged myself up to about 250,000 volts and gave myself a huge electric shock as a 20cm spark went from my hand to a water pipe. Of course I stayed to the end - it was a Kuga video! You were very lucky to have dry sunny weather in Scotland.
I’m so glad your first trip to Scotland was smooth and the weather was nice for you! Hope you had a lovely time in my country 😊
The train station looks Spotless.
My dad used to use this train once a week and I always wondered what it was like. So glad you made it to the uk
My memory of the trip from Dundee was in the lounge car with oil workers from Aberdeen and whisky. I put my partner on a 68 bus outside Euston and went to work
Scotland is nice! Love the Train too!
I like your videos in Europe! Hope you had a good time!
as someone from glasgow. its a beautiful city with lots to do. :) hope you enjoyed your visit
And, for that whacking price, you'd think they'd keep the diner open all night serving proper food.
Watford?
Rail in the UK is an absolute joke. Cheaper to fly from Aberdeen to London than take the train - how does that make any sense?
@@sukotu23 That's true haha Last time, my friends told me a way to get bigger discounts for rail trips. so i plan to have a rail trip
That was a love;y review and insight for the Caledonian Sleeper, very well presented, appreciate your video and continuous honesty. 🙏👍
Good to see you in the UK!
I'll definitely like to do this with my kids 12 and 20, as they also want to go to Scotland and sleeping trains are a lot of fun
When you asked the seagull what it “thought on the latest news” I was expecting it to do a 💩 lol 😆 A nice relaxing video with some beautiful scenery.
Wow so exciting beautiful I wish I could experience this myself
It was fun watching. I felt like I was there!
Wonderful. I would love to go on this train. I wish we had more trains like this in Canada.
We have three (or four) ones like it, the main ones being the Canadian (Toronto to Vancouver, 4 days) and the Ocean (Montreal to Halifax, 21 hours) as well as the Rocky Mountaineer out west.
Thank you for taking us on this amazing adventure. Can't wait for your next video! 🚂🚄🚃🚆🚅
Next time, you must try the Intercity Night Train from Milan to Syracuse accross the Italy, in deluxe excelsior night sleeper coach, for a 19 hours of ride from north italy to south italy 💪🏼
Thanks for sharing this experience
A positive outlook, uk presenters have said how The corridor is a little narrow, this gentleman from Japan, remarks , 'more room to sleep in' . Thank you. Patrick, Northamptonshire
This is a great video. I have travelled in the standard cabin on this train before. It has bunk beds and no shower or toilet (but you can use the shared toilet cubicle, and the shoe shiner, as shown in this video). There is a shower block at Glasgow Central Station where I think it costs £5 for a hot shower in a large space that's not moving, so really worth it after a night on the sleeper!
The double decker buses 🚌 look very fancy👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and I loved your comments, really made me smile. Best wishes on your travels.
I’ve lived in the UK for over 20 years but I never knew about this sleeper train. How fascinating.
Hope you enjoy your time in Scotland, I’m super jealous!
Thanks for the ride folk !!! 🇺🇾
Thanks for the joyful journey, looking forward to view your next trip.
Great video Kuga, glad to see you enjoying your travel
Welcome to the UK enjoy your stay
