    My 07 Honda pilot has been rock solid reliable. Mine has no VCM.
    The main issue that I’ve experienced was a minor oil leak behind the oil filter housing gasket and the small o ring behind the oil pump it happed around 150k miles.
    I take maintenance very seriously, oil changes every 6k, transmission & transfer case fluids every 30k miles and rear differential every 50k miles., I use Amsoil fluids for the engine, transfer case and transmission but for the rear differential I use Honda VTM-4 fluid.
    I have used different fluids brands over the years and the J35 loves Castrol edge, penzoil and Amsoil signature series.
    Few things that I have done are cleaning the throttle body, mass air sensor, EGR valve carbon deposit buildup. And finally PCV valve replacement every 50k miles.
    As long as no VCM are active and good maintenance is followed the J35 can last a long time.

    I have 2016 Accord V6 touring coupe with 156k. I have no complaints about the VCM. Plenty of power and good gas mileage. I change my oil every 5-6k using only amsoil signature series, and only use 93 octane. Runs like a champ with barely any oil burning. These engines when taken care of are amazing.

      At 7,500 gallons (21 mpg?) of gas through those injectors using delta premium extra of 0.75 gallon could have bought you a new motor @ $5,600?

    Well thats the one thing that I put on my 21 Ridgeline after breakin and that was a VCM disabler. So I hope that will give me some extra time of use with the 3.5 L engine. Oh, and I have a scanguage in this (truck) vehicle to monitor what temperature the disabler is telling the computer … around 74 degrees C. If the engines starts to get too hot (over 90 degrees C) then the disabler starts reporting the true temperature to the computer ….. nice.

    J35 in the 1st gen ridgeline can easily run 3 to 400k+ on the original powertrain with proper maintenance. Most of them end up dying from rust

    I was told the J35y earthdreams engine is port injected, not direct injection. The 4 cylinder is direct injection. I have a 2014 Accord V6.

      @brentbeardsley655 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dy1angi11ey6 yeah, drive.accord has that info. Apparently Honda knew they were discontinuing the Accord V6 and going to turbo's with the 10th Gen. They didn't find it cost effective to re-tool the line for one model year run so 9th Gen V6 Accords were kept port injection while the 4 cylinder is direct. Happy to know that with all the carbon issues with DI.

      @cephas1206 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I believe the J35Y1 in the Accord is Port Injection but the other Y versions used in Acuras and the newer Oddysey, Ridgeline, and Pilot are all DI

    I really likes the video, I'm one of them guys that needs hands on or a video to learn, hard for me to read and understand compared to watching. Away I'm looking for a new engine for my 2011 pilot, it has the j35z, pretty much all I can find are the j35a for sale, I just want to confirm that it will or won't work, I can't find much info out there on it, and after watch your video, I feel like you can lead me in the right direction, any insight would be much appreciated!

      J - Thanks for the feedback! It will work and all of the J35's, mainly Honda's, are very reliable. All depends on how well they've been maintained and are going to be maintained.

    Failed to mention the backordered for over 1 year 14100-RGW-A02 camshaft. J35 engines with VCM tend to destroy the front cam around 135k. Honda has stopped supporting their products with replacement parts, when the cam goes out good luck buying new one. Think twice if you plan on keeping it for the long haul.

    What's the max efficiency one could extract from stock ecu , say by , increasing the Compression Ratio to 12.5:1 , stock cams, Headers tuned for torque and free flowing exhaust , ported head , intake runners , and throttle body ..

    I have a 2014 rlx which has the j35y earth dreams engine. How can I fix the carbon build up? Also I am thinking about doing some upgrades for more power output. Any suggestions?

    • @8020Media
      @8020Media  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      H - You can't really "fix" carbon buildup, but some options are walnut blasting to reset the carbon buildup and adding a catch can. As far as upgrades, it depends on budget and what you're looking to accomplish. Can't ever go wrong with a tune, CAI, and exhaust upgrades.

    It was that dam tranny that Honda had to learn how to build and took them many years to learn like the torque converter valve of and there is the press a gasket out of a tube within 5 - 3 minutes and likely failing at the oil pump area on the oil pan connection points - they should have just made a gasket !!
