    I cannot stress about how much I love the little melody you played at the end of the video with your Whammy pedal.

    that was sweet with the whammy and the delay at the end,that would be sweet to hear a little jam with that.

    tech 21 VT Bass combined with the Boss ODB sounds MASSIVE. great demo man

    @KarlRickyofficial 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like your setup! The VT Bass seems like it adds so much to the fullness of the sound, along with the compressor. You've got great bass playing skills too :)

    great video man, i was strongly thinking about buying the VT but wasn't too sure but you've definitely persuaded me to get it now, can't wait!

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the VT bass is the must have pedal of my board. The ODB sat on a shelf for about a year until I combined it with the VT bass. I use mine as a preamp, it works wonders for my sound.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Threshold is the level at which the limiter will begin to limit. This can depend on the output of your bass. The ratio determines the amount of gain reduction based on how much the signal goes over the threshold.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    i like it. the construction may not be as good as a boss pedal, but its been holding up without problems for a year now. it has a better buffer than most DOD pedals.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    there are three inputs. channel A and B are both effects loops. you plug your pedals into either of the effects loops and mix with either level knob.

    Am I the only one that really likes that ending? It sounds so cool, atmospheric. It reminds me of early Spyro games.

    Very nice demo! Love the vt, might buy one haha, reallly love the whammy with the delay, sounds evil!

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    with the cs-3, I found that putting the sustain knob at around 11 o'clock was a way to have it not flatline my signal. However, to get the most out of it you may check out getting it modded. There are a couple mods out their that let it work better for bass.

  • @joerobot32

    gregg4164: If you care to notice, I have three pitch based effects in front of the distortions. Distortions add extra harmonics and prevent these effects from tracking properly. I like the compressor close to the front, so I use it to tame the harsh peaks of the bass wah. Other than that, all I can say is thats how i like it. Thats what music is all about dude. Whatever I like.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    its a good delay. i don't use delay too often, but i do use it, and it gets the job done for me. if i were to get another, it would probably have a tap tempo.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    yup, wah is quite dynamic and the compressor controls the peaks.

  • @JoeMorgans
    @JoeMorgans 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hey there put your bass synth wah before your compressor!! It works by sensing spikes in volume and that's what the compressor gets rid of!!

    • @joerobot32
      @joerobot32  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe Morgans Indeed, however I feel that some pedals need to have a little kick from the input to track there respective effects evenly. To tame these dynamic effects I now also use the MXR Bass Compressor at the end of my chain.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    too be quite honest, I didn't experience any tone loss using the whammy pedal. I recently removed the dod phasor for an mxr phaser because of the tone sucking. The bass whammy is far too expensive just because its "vintage", its a crappier pedal than the current whammy pedals. If you are worried about tone suck, there are plenty of true bypass mods for the whammy found with a google search.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    both are cool. distortion after octave. the OC-2 can be unpredictable, and throwing a distortion before it sounds great, but makes the pedal a little more wild. for the band i play in i just prefer octave before distortion

  • @mschuster6753
    @mschuster6753 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    great setup, think ill have to try the delay+whammy

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    sounds like the micro pog is just what you need. has a dry and effected output. I know a band that has no bass player. the guitarist brings a bass amp onstage and put the effected out to the bass amp with the sub octave. his dry just goes to his guitar rig.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    One may be able to achieve this sound with a big muff. The sustain knob can add the long sustaining tones. Check out Fripp & Eno "Evening Star". The guitar sound in it may give you an idea. Fripp plays a big muff through a 10 watt combo amp to get that ridiculous gain.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No problem, there is a reason why the bass whammy was discontinued. In fact, the one in this video I got for free. Someone I knew gave it to me in a broken state. I fixed it.

    ok so I got a pedaloard lookin about half of what you got and my question to you is that I have just recently got a Ampeg SVT Pro 7 head and a Ampeg 4x10 cab and I also instead of the VT Bass pedal you got I have a Sansamp Bass Driver. Would I still need to use it with my new amp head and just blend it in the Bass heads favor (I was using the S.A.B.D with a low watage 100watt amp before this to help puush it more)? I also have a nice compressor knob on the ampeg head as well and was hoping that may save me from having to buy a compression pedal... Thanks for any help you can give me. I love your pedals and your playing style! Keep it up!!

    Hi there Vince great video...a question..I place my Whammy 5 before my distortion (Aguilar Agro), the thing is...when I engage the Whammy...all the good grind of my distortion is gone...should I place the distortion/overdrive/fuzz....before the Whammy?....thanks

  • @joerobot32

    @sum16kwt i dont know what to tell you, my rig is fairly quiet, but it also helps that i recorded at a low volume.

    Vince--love your demo! Very helpful--thanks!
    Hoping you can help-- I'm pedal-challenged and trying to duplicate the bass sound that was used on Marty Robbins' song "Don't Worry ('Bout Me)". It's the instrumental refrain that sounds somewhat like a bass sax--maybe done on a synth? It's kind of a sawtooth-sounding waveform. Any idea if this can be duplicate on bass? What pedal(s) or synth is required? Much appreciated-- Keep the great videos comin'!

  • @Prof3ssrBrando
    @Prof3ssrBrando 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you say that the Whammy tracks well? I'm looking to split my signal and run two chain. One to strictly groove the low end while the second can either utilize lowend sucking pedals or I can (with the whammy) do a one to two octave up effect on the bass to get outside of the lowend register (while still being able to have my lowend groove). Nevertheless, does the Whammy track well when stuck in a full up position (no sweeping)?

    awesome vid man! a question, how are you powering your pedals?

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly, I believe thats a worn out tube in a guitar amp. It sounds similar to the way dying tubes sound. You could probably get close with a really gritty fuzz.

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the hissing noise? most distortions and high gain pedals will do that. putting a gate or noise reducer after a distortion pedal may help, but i don't like using them.

    I'll add the most effects loops sound like crap. The closest thing I have to a loop is a boss line selector. However it simply acts as an on/off switch for the pedalboard. So, If I have multiple pedals on for one part of a song, I can go to clean right away without having to tap dance!

  • @joerobot32
    @joerobot32  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    its only a bit noisier than the cs2. in a live mix, you wont hear it. the cs3 just flatlines the signal, not a lot of dynamics

    Is the OC3 going through the bass amp input or into the effects loop? Could you explain which is going direct into the bass guitar input and which is going into the bass amp input and which goes through the effects loop? As I've a Boss ODB-3 and a Boss CEB-3 chorus.. and a Boss GEB- 7 Equalizer pedal. so what order do I have the pedals? ODB3 into the inoput of the amp right? Then then CEB-3 and GEB-7 eq pedal through the effects loop.. is that right?

  • @sum16kwt

    I see much Juan Alderete influence on your board ;) how is that compressor? Have you tried it against other compressors? Im curious how it holds up against the mxr bass compressor.

    • @joerobot32
      @joerobot32  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its good. A couple things to be aware of: if you have an active or high output instrument, this compressor clamps down pretty hard on them to the point of sounding like distortion. My stingray has too much output for this pedal and i always keep the volume really low on that bass.

    Ok last question and i'll try in leave you alone lol. How do you like to keep your amp heads settings while using your VT Bass? Cause like I said I got a Sansamp Bass Driver and wanna put it in my pedalboard with the others and try coloring my other pedals with it like you do your VT Bass. I didn't think I would want it or would need it after I got my Ampeg SVT Pro 7 head but I guess it wouldn't hurt? And do you just run that entire pedalboard on you post threw the front input on your head? Or another way with the VT Bass and the rest of the pedals to the front input of the head?

    • @joerobot32
      @joerobot32  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, effects loops suck. They always sound worse than just going to the front of the amp. As for the settings on my head, I usually just dial in whatever tone I like in the head before I engage the VT Bass. The VT Bass isn't perfect, so I usually tweek the head for some tone. But It depends on what head I'm using. For my SVT, the bass is at 3oclock, mid at 1oclock and treble at 1-2oclock. The SWR is a transparent amp, which is why i do demos with it. SVT's have a distinct character.

  • @DANnuclearrabbitDAN
    @DANnuclearrabbitDAN 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    with the ls2, can you have one signal competely clean and always on, and then switch to a mix of both signals? so signal A is clean, and B is my effects loop, so the footswitch toggles between A and A+B. is that possible? thanks :)

    @sum16kwt the CS-2 is a much better compressor. far more natural sounding and musical. the CS-3 just flatlines your signal, and sounds awful for bass. i bought two CS-2's and got rid of the CS-3.
