    The Boss OC-3 octave is an excellent bass pedal... It's polyphonic, tracks really well, and has a dedicated bass input. My favorite part is, you can dial in the range. I set mine so that only the B & E strings (5 stringer, here) will trigger it, leaving the high notes clean & giving the low notes some boom. Great for reggae, funk, or any time you want booming, in-your-face bass.
    Edit: Noticed quite a few of the "don't need pedals/picks are bad" crowd putting you down in the comments... Remember, kids, putting someone down for playing "wrong" (ie differently) is a sure sign of insecurity. Do what YOU like. Don't listen to the "purists," they're too busy kissing up to Davie 504 & sounding like everyone else to have fun (or say anything worthwhile). The electric bass is less than 100 years old, let's find out what it CAN do, rather than arbitrarily decide what everyone else shouldn't.
    Holy crap, my edit turned out longer than my original comment... Great video, keep up the sonic experimentation!

      Total noob question-
      I use an Ampeg PF500, it has inputs for an FX loop. When I gig, if I wanted to go DI- would I just plug into my pedalboard and then go DI from the amp? Or would I want a separate DI box on the board that would do to the PA mixer from there? Also- should I use the FX loop for the board? Sorry if this is too general just no clue

    Thank you for this. I have been playing my bass naked for a while now. I was looking to dress it up with some effect pedals. The only things I was looking at was compression and chorus. But now seeing some of these possibilities I have some new ideas. I have a way huge swollen pickle for my guitar I will have to give it a try.

    • @jaminjef
      @jaminjef 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Compression and chorus are the 2 I use the most. I also have a distortion which isn't very good for most music i do. I have a octave effect too, but it burns through batteries too fast.

      Things for a newbie to bass pedals that'll make you seem like an expert: Keeley Bass Compressor, MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe, Mini POG, and just find a distortion or fuzz that suits your tastes. I personally don't love the swollen pickle as much as the wren and cuff pickle pie.

    You really should put your overdrive, distortion or anything that adds gain in the front of the chain and then the compressor and lastly any type of modulation effects you’re using. It really does make a difference in the tone, frequencies and the modulation and pitch bending effects are not being corrupted by the excessive gain when they’re used together. Just a little something that I learned from someone else along the way and it’s pretty standard practice so I’m not trying to take credit for the knowledge, or be a know it all, rather just passing it along in hopes that it will be useful for you as well. Great video and demonstration! I have 5 of those exact pedals on my board and I would recommend them to anyone in a second 👌

    Finally a bass vid with a new set of strings on the bass. Now I'll get a compression pedal to go along with my sweet sounding MXR M80. Those are the only 2 pedals I'd ever need. The M80 on it's own is amazing but a compressor would make a huge difference because I'm a rock player and I use a pick most of the time. Try an M80 with the gain set to zero and blend around 2 o'clock. It'll keep the clean bass notes with a little grind separate and behind it. Sounds awesome. Not sure why I stay away from the sansamp. I've used one recording and loved it. After this vid though, I might need to add it. Thanks, very good vid.

    Bumping an "old" video... I was searching for pros using Behringer NR300 because I already bought it and had some insecurity about whether it sucks out tone and I wanted to see whether professionals actually approve of this and use it. And then you hit me with "My God is the Sun" by QOTSA, one of my favorite QOTSA songs, and then some Muse and now I'm totally sold.

      My God is the Sun is one of my favorite QOTSA riffs. The NR300 as with all Behringer pedals is a solid pedal effects wise. However I took it off my board and the reason is the Behringer pedal build is awful and will not last in the long run. I use the EHX Silencer which is only double the cost and a much better build. Behringer effects wise is just as good though, just be careful if using it for heavy gigging!

    Question, what type of amp would/do you use with those pedals? Also, what settings do you set on the amp?

    Do you use any kind of amp and cabinet when you play a gig? Or maybe you just plug into Sansamp DI? Please let me know.

    Re: your OD quest, have you tried the Catalinbread SFT or, for fuzz, the Mojo Hand FX Colossus? I think they may be in your wheelhouse. I put the compressor at the end to let the dynamic pedals shine, smooth everything out and compress/level adjust the signal before the preamp. The Harmonist is very cool. Never heard of it. Good stuff. Love your P-Bass. Thanks!

    If the voodoo lab only has 8 inputs how are you using 10 pedals? Or are you using a daisy chain into the boss tuner to power the other two?

    Nice pedalbord, thanks for video. I understood that boss harmonist is the pedal that i need to play schism because bass whammy is so hard to find in Russia :D

    It is interesting that that you put the SansAmp so late in the chain. Usually, di's are recommended to be near the beginning. Do you feel that you are getting more impact from having it in your chain where it is?

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard that before too but I like having it at the end of my chain. With my new setup I have the Sansamp as the last pedal so I can use the XLR out when I record. If I had the Sansamp first and I used the DI then it would just get my clean bass signal without any effects. I also like how my dirt pedals sound when they come before the Sansamp as opposed to after. Hope my perspective helps!

      The Source Audio Hot Hand is an expression pedal that controls parameters based on which axis you move the hot hand. I connected the Hot Hand to the Source Audio Multiwave Distortion and the Hot Hand controls the drive parameter. The Hot Hand can connect to most pedals that have an expression output as long as you configure it correctly.

    You could always buy a super small chorus pedal and put it after the synth wah it would fit there's plenty of mini chorus pedals that would fit you also could swap out some gain pedals for some other cool stuff like a wah,tremolo or echo there's a lot of cool stuff you can put on bass to spice it up
