Wow! Such kind words. I’m glad I could be impacting your life like that and spread my love for the game. It’s truly amazing and there’s just so much to unpack. I was actually really surprised there wasn’t more on Catan Strategy when I first started my channel!
If I was Hawkeye I would be tabletalking grey and green like crazy to trade me wood and brick for that wheat port. I know you got a bit lucky with the year of plenty but even knights would have helped you rob grey of precious woods to get that settlement. The other players should have prioritized feeding Hawkeye that port to stop that insanely monstrous setup you had, you absolutely blew everyone away.
I definitely agree. Hawkeye was a essential part in slowing me and down and balancing the game. Me getting the wheat port made the game a bit too unbalanced in my favor!
Hi DyLighted, First time commenter here (as in I never make video comments). My girlfriend and I recently got into Catan through a friend. Since then, we've been playing a few times a night on Colonist.io. Your videos are really insightful and informative! I play and write guides for another strategy game as a hobby that I'm also trying to eventually go full-time. Seeing you take this full-time is really motivational. I know first-hand how much work goes into planning, explaining, and executing such great content. Much respect to you and your hard work! Keep it up!
Thank you Calvin! I’m glad Catan could bring y’all together! I truly try my hardest and work myself until I collapse. What strategy game do you write guides for?
@@DyLightedCatan AH! Didnt see reply. I wrote a few in-depth guides for Teamfight Tactics. It's not exactly the same realm of strategy as Catan though haha. Good luck on your grind! I put in 250+ hours last month towards growing my channel, so I know how exhausting it can be. Just know we appreciate your content!
Thanks for trying out this new quick style of putting a game together. I like it a lot. Please still upload longer ones in the future though. Those are also very nice. I especially enjoy when you include the game talk.
Got it! According to viewer data, a lot of my viewers don’t really watch the table talk games all the way through :/. Though I’ll keep this in mind and try to occasionally do some more full table talk games.
4:31 Personally I would rather have the 5 9 10 with wood and ore since it gets you good production of wood with a close 3:1 port along with a pairing for a longest road game if grey doesn't cut you off. I am influenced though since my 2 most recent games were longest road wins. 13:37 I would try to trade for either woods or wheat and try to get both the settlement on the wheat port and the city 19:30 I would wait longer on the monopoly until there were more wheats on the board or there were enough ores to have two cities/multiple dev cards, so I'd probably play the knight instead
I rarely click the bell icon, but you sir have been added to my notifications. I have learned so much from watching your videos. I have made/ taught my family your tips and now I get to play challenging games at home.
Using the year of plenty for wood to get the wheat port at 13:36 was definitely the right move, as it's a really strong port for a high wheat board and you wouldn't want to lose the race to Hawkeye. However, I was personally rooting for Hawkeye in this game, so I was hoping you'd let him get the port haha.
Three years later and I found this video. It's great to see how far things have come. Even with the basic graphics I am learning a lot. The wheat port would be my move too.
I like it when you show the end of game stats. In this case the dice stats show how 4, 5, and 6 absolutely dominated 8, 9, and 10, which led to a big resource differential between you and gray vs. blue and green. I think you were well positioned, but had the dice been more balanced things would have been interesting.
4:37. I'd go with Option 2. Here's the strengths I see in that setup. 1) Groundhog said that with so much ore and wheat on the board, there will be less fighting for longest road. Option 2 also gets you in on that longest road game with room for expansion along the right side of the board. You only need one more settlement over there to get your wood and bricks roughly equal. 2) This longest road potential doesn't come at the cost of city building potential; the 6-3-5 is relatively balanced ore-wheat for city building later on. 3) If we're expanding on the right hand side of the board, the brick port is within pretty easy reach, which means we only *have* to trade for 1-2 sheep before having a backdoor sheep source of our own. Option 1 does have some things going for it. Coordinated ore and sheep, plus plenty of wheat, implies that you could play OWS with those spots. But "plenty of wheat" may in this case be too much of it. 10 dots of wheat vs 4 of ore and sheep, on a board where everyone has wheat access, means that if Blue can beat you to the wheat port, you have a bunch of wheat production and nowhere to offload it. And then there's the 9 brick with zero access to wood. Despite the coordinated 5-ore and 5-sheep, the rest of the resources here aren't really in harmony, especially compared to Option 2.
Okay! First one was a little off, let's see if we can think this second one (13:42) through better. Blue is two wood and one brick away from taking the wheat port. Given how much brick you have, gray is probably holding a lot of wood right now. At minimum 1, possibly 2. Feeding blue the settlement seems possible next turn, especially with everyone being able to see how many cards you have or seeing you get a bunch of cities/devcards. If you buy a settlement, you have awkward leftovers. 1 brick, 3 sheep, 1 wheat, 6 ore. Still way over robber levels, but without much you can build directly. But you can convert this into two devcards if you're willing to 4:1. What are we drawing for? Road building gives us the "cut off Gray" plan. VPs and Knights are win condition, Monopolies are good, YoP is good... OK, so devcards are actually useful here. Building a city here means... compared to the port settlement, you get more sheep and more brick. Do you need either right now? I think it's fine to wait a turn. If you don't buy both devcards right away, you'll still be sitting on 40% of a city if you 4:1'd the ore, and 60% of a city if you didn't. And the remainder should be easy to get; you have a 7/8 chance of producing a double wheat or double ore before next turn. So yeah. Buy the devcard first, in case it changes things (Road Building etc). Then YoP for wood, build wheatport, and... actually I don't think you buy the second devcard. You tempt fate a *little* with being at 8 cards but you can discard the brick (less important now) and three ore in the 1/2 of games where it happens, instead of guaranteeing a loss of 3 ore by trading it now. As mentioned before, you have a 3/4 chance of producing double wheat before your next turn, and only a 1/3 chance of producing ore.
Wow! Well said! These are honestly my favorite comments to read. When I can actually see my viewers engaging with my work and critically thinking! You have a pretty good point on 4:1 ore is really painful, but since I was just trying to buy development card to defend myself I think it's a bit more acceptable here.

4:34 IDK 13:38 I would year of plenty for 2 wood, road settlement to the wheat port, 4:1 ore for wheat and buy 2 dev cards. 19:32 I would play the knight onto the 8 ore and buy another dev card with wheat trades. yooooo apparently I'm 66% a Catan pro just by watching these vids! @@DyLightedCatan Hey please make more videos soon. Its been 2 weeks since this comment! I just love your videos a lot and its been a long time since you uploaded.
Great video as always. Generally speaking using mono when it greatly improves your hand is correct, but you also have to consider you are stripping your opponents of those cards as well. Clearly using mono to prevent your opponent from winning on their turn or next couple turns is a correct play, but I am wondering if there are other circumstances where using it to hinder your opponents is correct (maybe to solidify a winning position?).
I responded to another comment above with a very similar question. There’s still a bunch more on the monopoly but I didn’t have time to cover it in this video. Basically you can monopoly a specific person if they are VERY far ahead or about to win. You can use monopoly both offensively and defensively. In this video I was focusing on how to maximize value for yourself instead of hurting opponents. However, there are situations where you want to be playing it to simply slow an opponent down.
Thanks for the video it was great. I personally am a huge fan of the 2/1 port and see so many wins attributable to this. Obviously you need the perfect board to pull it off, but its so powerful when it works. I would like to see you streaming more. I get a lot out of watching the other guys streaming and watching how they make decisions in real time.
I’m going to start streaming soon! Once it’s Black Friday, I’m going to get a PC and I can stream. Right now with the laptop, it’s hard for me to stream in high quality. About the 2:1 port, the 2:1 makes it so you can make more decision. If you’re a good player, then you can make more and better decisions.
4:35 (First pick) I would pick the ore-wood setup over the OWS setup because of the port options. The 3:1 port in the bottom right is very useful in any circumstance, and the ore port in the south will be great if we can get a settlement on the 8-ore spot in the north.
This one is certainly tough. I think if you can for sure get the wheat port on the OWS setup, it’s better. The OWS setup goes from Hero to Zero without the wheatport.
I’ll try to add more segments of table talk next time! I think the optimal length of a TH-cam video is 10, 20, or 30 minutes. I try not to go over 30 minutes since it can get less views, but I’ll see what I can do.
Although I normally like to have sufficient wood and brick for roads, I think the black set up is better. The 2:1 wheat is just too tempting and the blue player won't be in a position to get a free road, so taking 5-9-10 second means the race is on. Then 9-2 and 6-3 should be the next goals, in parallel with city-ing up. On average, in such 'side-doughnut' configurations it pays to settle near the hole as it gives you more room for expansion. Buy two wood, get the 2:1 port and 2 dev cards. It is the safest bet long term. Wouldn't play dev card just yet. I'd be buying roads to get to 4-11 and then 6-3.
19:30 I'd play a knight, not a good enough position for monopoly I think. Need to get those knights on the board as well. Getting a second city would be nice but I'd probably wait to get two cities in one turn.
I would buy a dev card first. If it’s a knight, then I would play the other knight. If not, I will just pass my turn since I only want my rock and wheat to be open to be ready for a monster mono. Good video dylighted ! I have been playing on colonist since the Corona and I appreciate all your content. Keep up ;)
Your patience on using the monopoly was quite amazing. I would of used it at least a few rounds earlier to solidify my lead and have more dev cards to protect my tiles. Overall well played on getting 18 wheats in hand!
Thank you Richard! I think Mono is one of the hardest cards to play correctly, and it requires a deep understanding of the game. It’s very hard to resist monopolying when you know you’re going to get a lot, but if it’s a wet board you have to trust in future opportunities.
Wow you look way different than what I had in mind! Think I've seen all the videos haha, so it's strange to see you finally on the screen. This was such an epic game, as soon as you got that wheat port it was basically game over. Your set up was absolutely monstrous! Can't wait for the next vid!
Hi DyLighted! I really love the in depth analysis and explanation of initial placement, it is such a critical factor for the entire remainder of the game. Thought experiment: Lets say 3rd position go for the 5-9-10 as you do. What then happens if 4th position takes the strong wood spot, but also clamps down on the 5-6-11, trusting he will be able to trade his rare wood for brick and sheep? Is this even a valid consideration (he will get 2 cities pretty fast). Which spot would you take in this case, and why? A further thing - in this game, Hawkeye gets a great 1st settlement but a poor 2nd settlement. I feel like going first is incredibly difficult when I play, since it feels like so much is out of your hands; your opponents, in particular number 2 pick, gets to decide which your 2nd settlement will be. You have made a great guide to 3rd position picks - I would love to hear similar thoughts for all positions on the board on many different board textures. Have not watched the video to the end (yet!) - but rooting for you to take down the first-to-three!
Hey Jacob! Thanks for commenting this. I actually thought about your exact thought experiment before and I’m going to be making a shorter Patreon video about it later today. I think doing something like this mitigates a good chunk of variance since you’re inducing people to trade more. I think I would go on the 6-3-4 for the thought experiment you were talking about. On different positions vs different board textures, perhaps one day I’ll make a guide on this. I’m glad you liked my video on 3rd position!
i mean, when you mention that they will call your mono out, they should've in this game already, 4 devs and not removing the robber from his own hex? extremely sus, RB would not have been worth it, YoP as well, 4 vp's? no way in hell. so it's a mono.
I was about to comment the same thing, but I decided to search first in the comments to avoid duplicating the argument. Once upon a time (early 2020) this would be an easy task, with only half a dozen comments below each DyLighted's video. Now I had to scroll down through 371 comments!
I love the content but i just can't help but laugh when someone sells their soul to Raid. I get it, you need money to pay the bills but i've seen their script and it's so sad plus the script doesn't describe their game at all.
Thanks Brian! I'm glad you enjoy my stuff! I actually had to write my own script and edit it myself. While there were certain parts/notes I had to say, I mostly had creative freedom when producing the ad.
Pause... I think on the massive 15 card turn with a Year of Plenty, I'd use the Year of Plenty for 2 wood to cut Hawkeye off to the wheat port... Wood is the only thing you don't produce, and Hawkeye is your only real threat for largest army, and really only if he gets on the wheat port since his sheep production and overall production is so much lower than your own... Groundhog doesn't produce enough ore to compete with you for army, and will probably go for longest road based on his setup... Ian doesn't produce any sheep and the port he's heading towards is a sheep port, so it's unlikely he'll be able to compete with you for army either... So just cutting off Hawkeye and eliminating him from the army race seems like the best play... It makes you a big threat but honestly with 15 (17) cards no matter what you do you're going to be a big threat so you might as well eliminate the the biggest competitor to your easiest win condition... It also could possibly force Hawkeye and Ian to race for the 3-1 port at the bottom right of the island, since they both could really use it, and forcing races is generally a good thing (although they'll both probably be stealing from you anyways with your position)... Still, it ensures only 1 of them will get a useful port for the game, and the one who doesn't is going to have more difficulty buying dev cards... Then with 6 ore, 3 sheep, 1 wheat, and 1 brick left I'd probably buy a dev card since you're clearly in the lead, see what it is, then maybe convert 4-1 ore to wheat to buy another based on what that dev card is... It's wasteful since you produce way more wheat than ore, but if you don't you'll be passing with 8 cards, so even if it is a little wasteful with your ore, you should be able to make it up with your massive production and wheat port, and it's probably better than passing with 8 cards and taking a 50/50 chance you lose half your hand... All of this is assuming no one will trade you with 15 cards to start your turn, and I'm pretty sure no one will... Ok unpause, let's see how close I get...
Pause #2... I don't think there's enough ore out there to use the monopoly on ore, and that"s the resource you could really use on this turn... There is more wheat than ore out there, and you do have a wheat port, but I think I would personally just play the knight this turn since it's on your hex... Even if it is just your 5-sheep hex with a settlement on it, you'll probably be buying a dev card this turn and have no sheep left in your hand, so unblocking the sheep is a solid move... Also keeping up in the knight race with Hawkeye could be crucial, and he's already got 1 knight down and 1 dev card unplayed and you don't have any knights down yourself... I'd also probably put it on a spot that blocks Hawkeye, but maybe steal from a leader (like on the 3-ore but steal from Ian since he has 2 powerful cities and also has a dev card face down)... Maybe buy the dev card before playing a knight to see what it is, but I think no matter what it was I'd play the knight over the mono this turn... I know my guy NeoNate would support my choice of patience with the monopoly, but let's see what you do...
This kindof content clearly took alot more time to produce, but it is really great. I'd love to see some more produced game breakdowns if you ever find the time
great video! Your plays were of course strategic and all but you were also pretty lucky to get monopoly and the year of plenty in the beginning! Would have loved to hear the table talk of everyone when they saw you with 18 wheat in what had to be a crushing turn. Can't wait for more!
I totally agree with you. The YoP was nice and THEN the monopoly. It couldn’t have been better. I think as soon as I monopolied they knew it was over. Next time I’ll try to include more bits and pieces of the table talk!
I've watched a number of your videos and the analysis you perform on your matches is stunning, and your mastery of this game is clear. If you somehow ever got bored of Catan, I'm sure you would be successful applying your analytical mind to other games. Great work!
Thanks Hunter! I’ve been wanting to make an AmongUs Strategy channel since there isn’t really one out there, but I don’t want to split too much time to it. I’m also a bit afraid that the game (Among Us) like Fall Guys is going to die out.
It feels so good to say what I would do out loud to myself then hear you say the same thing. I'm a little new to the game so it's very reassuring to know I do some stuff right. Plus here's a comment for the algorithm lol
Thank Reed! Picking up the city certainly helped me a lot, along with getting the wheat port. Without those 2, I don't think I could have succeeded as hard I did.
Offer trades to try to pick up the two wood. If the trades don't go through for wood, try to get some extra wheats as well (2 weats would be good) using one of your bricks, up to two of your ores, and up to 2 of your sheeps. My main goal in a turn like this is to build a settlement on the wheat port and also to build a city on the 5-9-10. Assuming one of the trades at least goes through, you can easily build a settlement+city, but if you're lucky and you get more than one trade you can probably go for settlement+city+dev card, which would be ideal to protect your ore. Edit: on the turn at 19:30 I think it makes sense to save the mono because there's not a ton of wheat knocking around, and the mono on ore only gets you 3-4 I think. Just two for 1 your wheat to pick up another dev card, or pass the turn.
My idea at the 14 minute mark was to get the 2 wood from the year of plenty, to build two roads. Could even then trade 4 ore to get another wood to make a city still at the 3:1 port in the same turn. But your idea was probably better and more efficient on material.
19:30 If you play the monopoly on wheat here, not only will you get enough wheat to build a city, but you'll also prevent Ian from building his port settlement, and he's arguably your biggest competition at this point. I'd mono on wheat
That’s a good point! I didn’t focus too much on the defensive aspect of the monopoly for this video, but you are certainly correct. Once the opportunity comes up, I’ll certainly talk about it in another video!
Nice play on the wheat port! I'm learning so much from these video's. It is amazing. I wonder how much of the settlement placing tips is applicable to a game with irrational players. If you could make a video on that, that would be awesome!
@@DyLightedCatan i had a friend when I was in the navy that loved settlers and he introduced me to the game. In 2012 but once I got out I had no one to play with. Then one day TH-cam recommenced your channel and I found Catan online. It’s been a good time since.
11:58 - why not year of plenty for 2 wood & build 2 roads towards the 10 8? This way you get the guaranteed wheat port, which is crucial for your setup. The second road may even help you get to the 8 ore and even if not, it’s a small price to pay in comparison.
Thanks for Video, always Fun. Small correction: At 21:54 you say "Gray has 2 Ore". I've been using these videos to practice tracking cards, I'm confident he only has 1 at this point, and only 4 are out, not the five you thought.
I think this is the first time I'd seen your face. You look a lot younger and I don't know why that surprised me. Btw love your content. Keep up all the good work as it is really nice to have CATAN content on TH-cam to be able to put on while I'm drawing and stuff.
This is the second time I put my face on video. The first one was this video. th-cam.com/video/V22I-36Cm6M/w-d-xo.html . Thank you! I’m so glad I could entertain ya while you do your art!
13:37 I would YOP for woods and build on the wheat port, as 1) no lumber has been rolled recently so I couldn't trade for it, 2) I have no access to lumber so this is one of the most efficient ways to get it without trading cards to others, and 3) the wheat port is a vital part of the game plan and it is especially important when in a race for it.
I'm somewhat late to the party, but @17:20 you could've used monopoly on wheat and build a Settlement on the 12-9 or the 11-4 spot. Eight wheat for two roads and three for the settlement.
I always apply real world concepts whenever I play Catan. There is this negotiation principle where you have to leverage the other person into believing they need what you have. This can be seen in sales. This is also achieved by simply asking "Hey, what do you need'? I also apply a lot of economic principles to the game such as Aggregate Supply and Comparative Advantage. These two principles have a little to do with distribution of resources, or at least that's what I use them for in game.
Excellent content as always, Dyl. I can't catch your streams, but I'm interested in your thoughts on 3-player and 6-player games, and how those scenarios affect your strategy.
I originally leaned towards option 2, less production points, but my entire family prefers wood & brick early to race others to a settlement location. However, I didn't realize the wheat port would be open
On the turn where you had 15 cards, here's what I would do: Year of plenty for 2 woods & bank trade 4 ore for a wood (Assuming other players won't trade with you). Build 2 roads to the 9/12/3:1 and place a settlement there. Your hand is 3 sheep, 1 wheat & 2 ore, thanks to the 3:1, and your strong wheat, next turn you're almost guaranteed to be able to upgrade the 5/9/10 to a city. This is a massive production boom, putting you miles ahead of anyone else in the game, it gives you a 3:1 port, and it blocks grey's expansion which is good because he's the best player and has the 2nd best position, after your own. Very soon, you'll have 3 cities on res allowing you to consitently buy dev cards, you should easily get largest army before anybody else. You'll probably be able to get longest road too for 10VP, if the others players sling each other to make sure you don't get longest road, they can't stop you expanding to a new settlement on the 5 sheep which you'll very quickly upgrade into a city to win the game.
I love the thought process! The reason I didn’t go with this line of play though was because I feel like it’s slight too inefficient. However, it’s still one of the stronger line of plays. Thanks for putting time into your comment and writing out your thoughts!
@@DyLightedCatan thanks! I wrote this before seeing you build to the wheat port. What you did, building to the wheat port, was much more efficient and led to a absolutely bonkers monopoly turn!
@@DyLightedCatan Yeah you might be right. Preventing grey from getting the 9/3/11 is nice. But I just like the 8 ore spot better for some early city action. He still would have had access to all 5 recources. And the sheepport goes well with the 8 sheep spot on his first pick. On the other hand, it would have made him very dependend on 8 and 4 rolls. But he might have had a shot at largest army with this set up. Anyway... good luck in the upcoming games!
Nice video! Well edited and easy to follow commentary, very helpful. :) At 14:30 you had enough ressources to cut grey off to the 9/12, why didn't you do that? It would have completed your hand with a good wood spot, denied grey to expand as he was one of the stronger opponents and also got a 3/1 port. Or did you value two dev cards higher because you rely on them in your winning condition? Of course you got the the monopoly the key to your victory in that turn. Your strongest game in the $500 series, congrats! :)
Thank you! I made this video in mind of trying to keep it as easy as possible to follow! I did think of cutting off to the 9/12, but I think that distracts me too much from my main objective which is dev cards. I think gray is strong, but I think I’m stronger if I buy dev cards and win faster.
2 woods for the wheat port with the YOP. Flexibility to buy dev cards for the whole rest of the game as the 5 rock gets destroyed by the robber. And gets your hardest task (settlement expansions) done now
At 13:40 I think I'd try to trade into either a wheat or a wood to try to get both a city and settlement in the same turn. It's likely that you couldn't get a trade given the position, though. Potentially try to trade into a sheep with an ore/brick to 4:1 but that seems sketch

Wow! Such kind words. I’m glad I could be impacting your life like that and spread my love for the game. It’s truly amazing and there’s just so much to unpack. I was actually really surprised there wasn’t more on Catan Strategy when I first started my channel!
Same 😅
Playing catan at the beach? never thought of that...
Thumbs up for the amazing edit: you talk us through a game in such a beautiful manner!
Thanks! I’ve never associated talking about Catan Strategy and beauty, but I appreciate the nice words regardless 🤣!
Hi DyLighted,
First time commenter here (as in I never make video comments).
@@DyLightedCatan that's such a bummer. I really enjoy those games. You get to see such a crucial part of the game.
I might not watch a full game with talk that often, but editing in some relevant table talk parts works great for me.
Ik I am 3 months late, but I just wanna say I love how you go over games and make it understandable to almost anyone in an exciting way, keep it up!
Thank you :)
4:31 Personally I would rather have the 5 9 10 with wood and ore since it gets you good production of wood with a close 3:1 port along with a pairing for a longest road game if grey doesn't cut you off. I am influenced though since my 2 most recent games were longest road wins.
13:37 I would try to trade for either woods or wheat and try to get both the settlement on the wheat port and the city
19:30 I would wait longer on the monopoly until there were more wheats on the board or there were enough ores to have two cities/multiple dev cards, so I'd probably play the knight instead
Also 38 dice roll game is crazy quick to me. The shortest game that I've kept track of on colonist.io was 46 rolls
Hahaha no worries! I’m a big Hawkeye fan and I’m playing against him lol 😆. Great job getting the wheat port quiz right!
Three years later and I found this video. It's great to see how far things have come. Even with the basic graphics I am learning a lot. The wheat port would be my move too.
This is so good. I love how excited you sound as you narrate. It makes it all sound so intense. Which it totally is, because it's Catan. ; )
Thanks bud! I truly find it an exciting game.
I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and really like how you break every scenario and decision down. Really helps a newer player like myself out!
Thank you for the kind words Wallabeast! I’m only going to continue further with it! So glad I could help you out :)
Better title: TH-cam catan player destroys NATIONAL CHAMPION with amazing usage of the monopoly 😆
Haha 😂 . I actually talked to Ian about the title and asked him if I could use this title. He kindly let me use this title to try and get more views.

13:38 I would year of plenty for 2 wood, road settlement to the wheat port, 4:1 ore for wheat and buy 2 dev cards.
19:32 I would play the knight onto the 8 ore and buy another dev card with wheat trades.
yooooo apparently I'm 66% a Catan pro just by watching these vids!
But fr awesome work keep it up great video!
Haha well done! Great decision making! Thanks for taking the courage to comment and try the quiz! I appreciate it!
Very in depth, I've never seen a Catan analysis before, but it was very thorough and enjoyable! I would appreciate this video even if I had no idea what the game was; your diction is just so succinct yet comprehensive.
Lmao never thought I’d see a Raid Shadow legends add here. Don’t mind you getting sponsored at all learn a ton from you but that’s just hilarious lol

@@DyLightedCatan Exactly, sometimes momentum is of great importance, especially on some low production boards :)
I really enjoy your content, I can feel that you put in a lot of work into your videos, keep it up !
I’m super glad it shows. All the hours of slaving away at my laptop is paying off!
Anyone else would like to hear the table talk? That's really valuable
I’ll try to add more segments of table talk next time! I think the optimal length of a TH-cam video is 10, 20, or 30 minutes. I try not to go over 30 minutes since it can get less views, but I’ll see what I can do.
You are the reason I started playing Catan again, and actually winning! Ps, these videos are also great to fall asleep to. Double benefit I guess
Great comment and good analysis! I love seeing my viewers thinking and putting their thoughts in the comment section!
Keep em coming DyLighted! We can really tell you put so much into these video and it will surely pay off!
Thank you Trenton! I’m glad my effort shows! Thank you for validating me and my work! I appreciate it a lot.
Keep up ;)
Thank you both for all your support! Great analysis on both of your ends :)
Awsome video as per usual! So glad to see u get sponsors. Puts a huge smile on my face

Me, who doesn't even know how to play Catan: *Interesting*
I know the rules but can't claim I know how to play *shrugs
Anyway, you say you only want to post the best content, and I understand that... Buutt... I wouldn't mind seeing some weaker content. Can't wait for the next vid!
I totally agree! Once I had the wheat port I felt like I was pretty unstoppable. It was a key element of my success!
Commenting to help the algorithm.
Appreciate it 2nd Gen!
When is the next video coming out?
I just posted!
Seriously such quality content! Keep it up man! I love the pausing at decision points, makes these such better videos for improving play!
i mean, when you mention that they will call your mono out, they should've in this game already, 4 devs and not removing the robber from his own hex? extremely sus, RB would not have been worth it, YoP as well, 4 vp's? no way in hell. so it's a mono.
In this game they did call my mono out pretty early. At that point where I talked about dirty mono, I think they already knew I had a mono.
I was about to comment the same thing, but I decided to search first in the comments to avoid duplicating the argument. Once upon a time (early 2020) this would be an easy task, with only half a dozen comments below each DyLighted's video. Now I had to scroll down through 371 comments!
I love your content, despite not playing catan competitively, and am commenting to help you on the algorithm grind!
Great video Dylan,
Very educative and still extremely entertaining. Keep it up man, you keep improving and I can't help but to keep wachting ;)
Thanks Stephan! I’m only going to try and make my videos better and better! Thanks for sticking around!
I know my guy NeoNate would support my choice of patience with the monopoly, but let's see what you do...
best catan channel out there! keep up the good work!
Thank you Guy! There’s not really many other Catan channels out there, but I’m glad I could rise and shine above the rest!

great video!
Great plays. I only play with a group of friends and some beers every 3 months or so but seeing the thought process behind pro play is pretty awesome
I've watched a number of your videos and the analysis you perform on your matches is stunning, and your mastery of this game is clear. If you somehow ever got bored of Catan, I'm sure you would be successful applying your analytical mind to other games. Great work!

Dang what a crush. You had that game locked up from placements honestly. Nice vid, great mono tips
Awesome video! Wouldn't have known about online Catan if it wasn't for your videos
Thanks! I think I’ve popularized online Catan a lot. I’m glad to see that I can bring you here :)
Usually you just need to place on independently strong spots with as many “outs” as possible so you don’t get screwed over.
Great video. I love this game and this channel has really helped me grow as a player
Glad I’ve been able to spread my passion of the game to my viewers! It’s honestly great seeing everyone improving and loving the game as much as I do.

Thanks George. I thought I went back to make sure there weren’t any tracking errors, but I believe you. It looks like I might’ve made a mistake
Well done and well said! Great job on the quiz!
Glad you're getting sponsors!
Thank you! It’s the first big leap into being able to support myself!
If anyone deserves sponsors! It's you Dy!! Congrats!
Thank you Aditya! ❤️ I appreciate the kind words!
I'm somewhat late to the party, but @17:20 you could've used monopoly on wheat and build a Settlement on the 12-9 or the 11-4 spot.
Eight wheat for two roads and three for the settlement.
13:35 Get the wheat port. It's the best payoff for being on 3 wheat spots, and it prevents blue from getting it.
Perfectly said! Great job!
Keep it up DyLighted! Love your content! Greetings from the Netherlands!
Thanks Bram, will do! Hello to the Netherlands!
Wow, that was not even fair! Keep it coming Dylighted! Great game
Thanks! I did think I got really lucky that game with both the monopoly and getting an early city.
Option 2 to start of with. Those two woods spots and the possibility of capturing two clay with that port so nearby would be the best option.
Thanks for the awesome videos! They have really improved my games with friends
And thank you for watching my videos! I couldn’t have done it without viewers like you!
Nice content as always! Installing that game for you... It's not really my type but you deserve all the help
On the turn where you had 15 cards, here's what I would do:
Year of plenty for 2 woods & bank trade 4 ore for a wood (Assuming other players won't trade with you).
What you did, building to the wheat port, was much more efficient and led to a absolutely bonkers monopoly turn!
going into my first tournament this weekend. wish me luck, your videos really help.
Great video! And you played very well. Wonder if Groundhog would have done better with the 8/4/sheep port on his second pick.
I think the 3/9/11 was still the right pick. Even if he didn’t perform super well, it’s important to not be results oriented.
Anyway... good luck in the upcoming games!
haha my man has made it with that Raid ad! Amazing video, keep it up!
❤️❤️❤️ and it couldn't have been done without you! Thank you for always watching my videos!
Nice video! Well edited and easy to follow commentary, very helpful. :)
At 14:30 you had enough ressources to cut grey off to the 9/12, why didn't you do that?
And gets your hardest task (settlement expansions) done now
Perfectly well said! Great job on the quiz Aaron!
At 13:40 I think I'd try to trade into either a wheat or a wood to try to get both a city and settlement in the same turn. It's likely that you couldn't get a trade given the position, though. Potentially try to trade into a sheep with an ore/brick to 4:1 but that seems sketch
Great video! Would love to see “My first tournament part 2” that you “scrapped”!
Scrapped is something I started working on it but never finished. Basically that video really underperformed on my channel and I barely made any money from it. Since this is my full time job, I have to make content that will pay the bills.
@@DyLightedCatan I really enjoyed part 1 but i completely understand, looking forward to the next part of this $500 series!
I love this channel, wish it had more!! been playing on colonists tons
