  • Want to make your ride in car or truck have more durability or have the battery time last longer? Last time we worked on our electric GMC Sierra we converted the truck from 6 volt to 12 volt and added a second motor for more power and traction. Unfortunately the instant torque start to destroy the plastic gears. In this video we install a soft start or launch control module from EastCoast PowerUp in order to control power delivery in our ride in car.

      Oh ya, he's having a lot of fun driving that thing. It's cool that he enjoys working on things in the shop as well 😁

      @@AnthonyJ350 definitely cool that you get him involved with things like winding the motor cables.
      I was de-soldering and sorting components like resistors by color code at six.
      A lot of things have changed in 50 years.

      @@jimurrata6785 Definitely, I'm sure by 16 he'll match me in skill and in his 20s easily surpass me. I'm hoping to get into 3D printing when the shop is fully setup.

    These videos are great, I can practice my bodge jobs on these little cars without stripping the gearboxes and burning out the ECU's on my customers cars.

    Excellent Mod. Longevity will be vastly improved. Would a reostat or potentiometer on the gas pedal be too difficult to install? That way variable speed would be as realistic as possible.

      I thought about that, he has maybe a year left in the truck so it wasn't worth it. Maybe the next one so he can have more time with it.

    Do I correctly understand, that you left the old circuit with a different voltage and let it control the new circuit with a different voltage via relays? I am thinking of such a mod but cannot find info about it. I'm not sure what will happen if I plug a relay in place if an engine in the old circuit. Most relays I see have very small control currents and I'm not sure what the built in car controller will do there. I cannot find a 6/12v 20a to 24v 49a relay. How did you solve that? Or perhaps one can hook the relay somewhere inside the board where the currents are going to be lower, than the engine pins?

      That's correct. If the system controlling the relays is 12 volt in theory you can pass the high voltage wires on 87, 87A and 30 as they are just contacts.

    My foot pedal only has 2 wires. Is there something I can add so it doesn’t jolt stop when the gas is not pressed and it comes to
    A slow roll stop?

      It would be the soft start module I used in the video to achieve this.

      @@AnthonyJ350 There are a few options. There are videos out there, that show people using linear actuators, to move the steering. These are basically motor controlled telescoping shafts. The kind you would want has a sensor on it, so that you know it's position. Some support PWM positioning. The second option, is that some people repurpose other motors, like a windshield wiper motor & convert it into a servo.
      There are some videos covering this topic, as well. Another option that might be possible, is that some ride on toys already have mounting points for a steering motor, and you can order one inexpensively. Then, you can make that into a servo. Alternately, you can just install hall effect sensors, so it shuts off the motor, to keep it from trying to go out of bounds.
      There are a few videos that show how to convert to R/C. If you like programming, you could also try using an Arduino, to give yourself a few more control options. I am using an ESP32, because it uses a special peer to peer wireless protocol, that doesn't need a network to communicate.
