    Monarc is a newcomer in the backpack space and they are coming out strong with their Settra Duffel/ backpack. This is probably the most comfortable duffel backpack hybrid that we have ever tested. It is quite feature-heavy which unfortunately adds weight and makes this duffel pack weigh around 4 lbs. Which might be a turn off for some.

    I really love this channel for reviews and not for discussing environmentalism. They put a lot of care into their packaging and if people are buying this duffel I would imagine it could last almost a lifetime so a few plastic bags is not going to kill anyone. I know everyone disagrees with me. I love your channel either way and thank you for making these videos!

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Sarah! Totally agreed, the plastic bags are not the end of the world, and these guys do enough on the positive side to offset it. As for the environmentalism, we only discuss it if the company claims to be eco-friendly. Nomatic puts so much plastic in their packaging it's crazy, but we never call them out on it cuz they don't claim to be sustainable. But Nomatic DOES claim to be durable - that's why we threw their suitcase down a flight of 50 concrete stairs to see for ourselves ;D

    Awesome to get your take! I really enjoy traveling with it and the back panel hasn’t bothered me too much since it flattens out if you shove your hand up there and push it all the way up. Kind of annoying but to get the hideaway back panel, definitely a fine trade off for me! I had the Tortuga Outbreaker which does allow you to carry in duffel mode but is distinctly still a backpack. I also don’t use the laptop compartment for any tech since I am two-bagging it but I found it’s a great place to store a compressible daypack or sling flattened down! Takes up no space and keeps it out of the way!

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was really excited to hear your thoughts on this - also love your daypack-compressed-in-laptop-compartment idea!

  • @lsx834
    @lsx834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same gripe about the laptop compartment as well. I'm waiting for mine to ship but once it arrives, I'm gonna try and stuff the large compression pack in the laptop compartment and then my laptop on the bottom of the main compartment... I feel like that would give it enough padding for me to feel comfortable and more secure in making sure my laptop isn't damaged

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, please let me know how it goes!

  • @FakeDadRealFriend
    @FakeDadRealFriend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hot Take: Laptop Comp is actually great. This about it, you got the whole back padding layer and “false bottom” created by the sorta bulky backpack mode stuff, all protecting the VIP. Your laptop, even on a rough landing, is landing FLAT instead of on a CORNER, dispersing the impact first through the back padding and then over the whole body - this is good, spread force is less force. So unless you’re placing your bag down on beds of spikes this checks all the boxes. And if you’re somewhere with beds of spikes I guess? Bust out backpack mode, laptop compartment is now in the “normal” backpack place.
    This is great.

    Yeah man, that flap once you move it to back pack mode is annoying as hell. I wish they made it completely removable.

    So as for me I am pretty much a backpack guy only. Slings and duffles always have a way of tweaking my back. With that being said I usually skip over these videos, but you guys always do a great job presenting whatever it is you are reviewing. BTW, I finally traveled with the MW Radian last week and it was a dream come true. I'd say for me it is THE ONE (for travel). Depending on the trip I may take a Halliburton carry on roller and 26 liter backpack. Anyway, a suggestion that I always appreciate is a sample load out. Even if it's medium and small PD packing cubes because I am always trying to get a sense of space in backpacks in particular. What happened to the little hand BTW?

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ahhh so peanut butter and jealous you got the MW Radian - you have found THE ONE! As for the little hand, it still makes an appearance every now and then when Tav's feeling weird enough 😂

    • @Brandon-0028
      @Brandon-0028 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nomads.Nation Yeah the Radian is a great carry; so comfortable! I loved the PD Travel but the straps ere just too thin. We had that discussion a while back. Now if Mission workshop would create an EDC bag with a clamshell and roll top with the archive rails I would be set. I have the Rhake as well, but I kinda hate getting stuff in and out of that deep chasm with the liner pulling put everytime. And while it's really cool the usability of un-snapping the cobra buckles to get into the water resistant zippered accessory pockets on the front is a bit of a pain. I am an enterprise UX architect by trade and it bleeds over to my product experience so I am pretty particular. Maybe a bit lazy ;-).

    I’m not sure the laptop sleeve is that problematic for me as I would not plan to throw it around that much when I travel. The size and its multiple pockets seem appealing. But, you mention that it also comes in green yet on the Monarch website only a gray color is offered in addition to the black you reviewed. I think I’m going to wait until you review the green Peak backpack duffel bag before I make up my mind.
