DFI is mounted on a fuel rail and plugged into ports inside each cylinder - one injector for each cylinder. Fuel injectors squirts fuel like a water pistol into the cylinder. Rarely fuel injectors go bad. When they do, they're easily replaced. The vehicle's OBD maintenance computer activates and stores trouble codes, which highlight specific problems with the vehicle. Pre-1995 it is OBD I - different ports for different vehicle makes. Post-1995, it is a standardized OBD II - same port for every vehicle. The port is usually under the dash or inside the dash. Use the OBD system to discover which fuel injector is faulty. Remove the fuel rail, disconnect the wiring to the faulty injector, remove the injector from the fuel rail, install replacement, and reassemble. Clear OBD trouble codes and test drive to see if problem is fixed. Where as the fuel/air mixture for a carburetor is manually tuned and adjusted, the fuel/air mixture for TBI and DFI are adjusted via computers and sensors. The Air Flow Sensor monitors how much air is entering the engine. The MAP Sensor or Manifold Absolute Pressure regulates how much fuel each injector sprays in milliseconds, using a preprogrammed computer module. The O2 sensor mounted in the exhaust system monitors exhaust gases and sends signals to the vehicle's main engine management computer which continuously tunes the engine and transmission for optimal performance and emissions, increasing the reliability of the vehicle. In the 2000's, many performance automotive tuners tinkered with the vehicle computers to produce more power. It could be from anything as replacing the modules for performance enhanced ones, which has a different set of specifications. To reprogrammed modules, where the owner inputs different specifications to enhance the horsepower based on the desired vehicle performance. How can you rev an engine without punching the gas pedal?? Is there really another way??
Pull the throttle cable or throttle body valve. Same as hitting the gas pedal. Don't pull on the cruise control cable; might keep the throttle wide open and/or throw off the calibrations for cruise control.

@@snowplow4585 Yes. Since this is an old school muscle car, when he hits the gas, the cable opens up the 4 barrel carburetor on top of the engine. The carburetor is mounted to the air intake manifold, which provides air channels for each cylinder.
The carburetor valves open, drawing air into the engine and sprays fuel into the air which vaporizes. The fuel/air mixture goes into the cylinders, which is compressed and detonated, which creates power.
Fast forward to the 80's and 90's. There was such a thing as TBI or Throttle Body Injection. It's a cross-design between a carburetor and DFI - Digital Fuel Injection.
TBI units are mounted inside the air intake and usually have only two fuel injectors versus a carburetor's four fuel jets. DFI is mounted on a fuel rail and plugged into ports inside each cylinder - one injector for each cylinder. Fuel injectors squirts fuel like a water pistol into the cylinder.
Rarely fuel injectors go bad. When they do, they're easily replaced. The vehicle's OBD maintenance computer activates and stores trouble codes, which highlight specific problems with the vehicle. Pre-1995 it is OBD I - different ports for different vehicle makes. Post-1995, it is a standardized OBD II - same port for every vehicle. The port is usually under the dash or inside the dash. Use the OBD system to discover which fuel injector is faulty. Remove the fuel rail, disconnect the wiring to the faulty injector, remove the injector from the fuel rail, install replacement, and reassemble. Clear OBD trouble codes and test drive to see if problem is fixed.
Where as the fuel/air mixture for a carburetor is manually tuned and adjusted, the fuel/air mixture for TBI and DFI are adjusted via computers and sensors.
The Air Flow Sensor monitors how much air is entering the engine. The MAP Sensor or Manifold Absolute Pressure regulates how much fuel each injector sprays in milliseconds, using a preprogrammed computer module. The O2 sensor mounted in the exhaust system monitors exhaust gases and sends signals to the vehicle's main engine management computer which continuously tunes the engine and transmission for optimal performance and emissions, increasing the reliability of the vehicle.
In the 2000's, many performance automotive tuners tinkered with the vehicle computers to produce more power. It could be from anything as replacing the modules for performance enhanced ones, which has a different set of specifications. To reprogrammed modules, where the owner inputs different specifications to enhance the horsepower based on the desired vehicle performance. (The 2001 movie "The Fast & The Furious" helped illustrate it briefly.)
