Wow, back when John Dank's was a top 100 prospect in the Texas/White Sox system and had great potential in 2008. Also, only 3 years removed from a 2005 championship we had a good number of fans during the regular season. Nowadays Sox fans are just fed up. I'm super excited for the rebuild.
looking back this '08 team was SO bad. Would not come near the post season today. Ken Williams teams in a nutshell. GOAT Rick Hahn hopefully will change that.
At the time that was actually a good team. Not a World Series contender but a solid team that could contend for a division title and that's exactly what they did. They had a mix of guys with only a good year or 2 left and a few young guys with a lot of upside. Unfortunately for the young guys most of their careers didn't materialize.
I was a student at the Illinois Institute of Technology during this game (it's the college on the other side of the Dan Ryan, so only a few blocks from then US Cellular Field). Anyway, I watched the game on TV and heard Fireworks from Thome's HR a solid 5 seconds before I saw it on TV. It was awesome.
I'm watching this video on July 23rd 2023... I cant believe how far this team has fallen from times like this. Jerry has crashed any trust with us fans
railroadhunter2000 I agree. Robin didn't manage the team correctly. I'm hoping Renteria can. Our pitching is there. Maybe go out this off season look for some better bats?
It's weird though. The lineup looks really good on paper, but can't seem to ever produce runs. Whenever stars come to our team they suddenly aren't that good
I watched this on tv as an 11 year old and that night i learned what it truly meant to be a minnesota sports fan. The thome blast took all the joy out of me for the next 24 hours especially since blackburn had a shutout going. Oh well, got to go to the Oct 4 game against KC(what was SCHEDULED to be the last game in the metrodome) the next year and watched the tiebreaker against detroit on tv
Whoever came up with the idea of the Blackout Game needs to be given a medal, a trophy and a good-sized monetary prize. I have no idea if something like this had ever been done by the fans of any team, but this was incredibly cool. And on top of that, the White Sox won. Great game and a great gimmick!
Yeah, hope we can have another blackout game either '19 or '20. I feel this team is rebuilding with an awesome future...fingers crossed no one we like gets traded!
This win was great because it was the only time that era's White Sox celebrated a clinch at the Cell. In 2005 they clinched the Division in Detroit, the first round in Boston, the Pennant in Anaheim and the World Series in Houston. They were a fun and hard working team in 2008!
Perfect compilation because nobody could be happier than Alexa Ramirez after he hit that homer and Brian Anderson was just the epitome of a guy who felt that he had finally done good by making that diving catch. Good moments
I was there with my wife and 11 year-old son. They picked the 7th inning to go to the bathroom, leaving me to hold down the fort. I'm so glad I had a better bladder back then.
What happened to our crowds? The stadium is a complete ghost town, unless they're playing the Cubs or it is a nice night. It's just sad because no one shows up. It's like everyone is a Cubs fan. Where's all the true white sox fans?😢
They're still around, but the team has sucked. They need to rebuild more than anything, and they've already started that by firing Robin Ventura. Keep your hopes up though! I have a good feeling that within the next decade they will come back and win another WS title.
I had a softball game that night, kept getting updates while we played, love this team, and wish I could have watched the game live. Can't wait to see us get back there this year.
@Lighthouse in the Storm 1. was really the last hurrah for the white sox from this era (mostly the konerko era). 2. this game was pretty quick, as 1-0 games usually are. today's games take waaaaay too long to complete. 3. Griffey did the only thing he's known for before literally taking a nap in the mariners dugout. 4. blackout. just blackout.
Hey, do you have a copy of the whole game you could upload? some users have uploaded a few games from the mid 2000s and this one is definitely one id like to see!
What was special about this game and team was Ozzie told the fans to come out and support the team in the one game playoff, and come in black. When I watched that night the stadium was packed and was black as night. It was great to see something like that happen and the support the fans showed the team. I don't remember a fan base show that kind of support for a team bc the coach asked for it. And it was on live TV to top it off. Let's go 2020 Chi Sox
Oh man.. this was awesome. Things don’t look so hot right now. But I believe we have the talent to be in the wild card hunt this season. It’s going to be the bullpen and hitting coach holding us back.
Brian Anderson lolll he just like "omg I did it I did it I did SOMETHING good for Christ's sake.. COME HIGH FIVE ME cause it will never happen again"!!! Loll He was so happy there loll
As someone who is at this game this whole thing was just straight up magic man I'm telling you it was just so electrifying the whole time I know that no one probably gives a shit but I just figured I'd say holy shit there's something about this game that regardless how you feel about the White Sox, it is probably one of the most impressive games of baseball ever played
Throughout the storied histories of both The South side Hitmen, and the Friendly Confines Cubbies, a lot of historical, record breaking, record making and record setting firsts, have happened in the City Of Wind! Chicago sports teams have also been the stoppers of streaks, {doesn't matter if it's the Cubs, Bulls, or White Sox} both, hitting & game winning streaks have come to an end, when the opposition faces Chicago! Like this blackout game, and the game where Robin Ventura thought he could take on Nolan Ryan in a benches clearing donnybrook! But the most "historical" & "storied" moment in the history of Comiskey Park {The House That Veeck built:} Was when back in 1990: After sliding into first base, Steve Lyons stood up and in front of 30,000 or so of his closest friends and fans, he decided to drop his pants! THE END!!
Hey guys. This year is gonna be magical, I can feel it! So many injuries and we’re still leading the Central comfortably and we’re only gonna get better when guys come back! Let’s get it done this year! #ChangeTheGame
Only bad thing about New Comiskey Park is that there's too much length between upper & lower deck seats. Oh well, 1990's infrastructure. Other than that, it is a perfect modern baseball Park.
This team had such a swagger to em. It's a shame they had to face the devil rays the next series cuz I think they could've taken em if they were given more time to build off their hot streak
If Griffey served any purpose that year it was to make that center field throw.
I was there with a girl on a date. The game was unforgettable. The girl-I don't even remember her name.
Don't worry, she probably doesn't remember your's either.
When Jim thome hit the homerun she was probably like TOUCHDOWN 😂
💀
Legend.
I think it’s safe to assume she didn’t become your wife.
I was at this game and can definitely say it was one of the loudest crowds of all time. There was so much excitement
Wow, back when John Dank's was a top 100 prospect in the Texas/White Sox system and had great potential in 2008.

looking back this '08 team was SO bad. Would not come near the post season today. Ken Williams teams in a nutshell. GOAT Rick Hahn hopefully will change that.
How were they bad? They had three guys with 30+ home runs plus Konerko. And three good starting pitchers.
At the time that was actually a good team. Not a World Series contender but a solid team that could contend for a division title and that's exactly what they did. They had a mix of guys with only a good year or 2 left and a few young guys with a lot of upside. Unfortunately for the young guys most of their careers didn't materialize.
brendan dempsey rick Hahn is a fucking idiot

2024 checking in…
Merry Jerry needs to sell to someone mentally competent.
Probably the most exciting game I've ever been to.
Loved that team.
You can actually hear the game audio and the music doesn't suck? What is this???
ElmerFudd16 the intro xx from project x
ElmerFudd16 a good edit check out all my sox vids lol just like this
What's this song called
It goes well with this video
What up John it’s mike brennan on insta
Being a white sox fan, it's tough watching the Cubs have so much success. This is the kind of thing we need right now
railroadhunter2000 I agree. Robin didn't manage the team correctly. I'm hoping Renteria can. Our pitching is there. Maybe go out this off season look for some better bats?
It's weird though. The lineup looks really good on paper, but can't seem to ever produce runs. Whenever stars come to our team they suddenly aren't that good
The Cubs have nothing on us. White Sox had a better run at the 2005 World Series.
Don't like either Cleveland or Cubs.
railroadhunter2000 white sox got lucky with the rain out game.
i was at the blackout game. best game of my life
Jack Duggan I was there too. At least that's what my parents told me. I have no recollection of being there
KingOfKasvit i was like 9 but i remember the final play and it being loud as fuck
Went to that game...thought that Thome HR WAS never coming down...
I watched this on tv as an 11 year old and that night i learned what it truly meant to be a minnesota sports fan. What's the exact date of the blackout game?
2021...will be there to relive it..not a good situation though
This video almost makes me cry because it makes me so happy!
It would be my pleasure to treat you to a sox game babe cause WOW you’re a beauty 😍 you’re a woman to feel honored to be with 😘

What a great song choice to go along with one of the greatest sports memories to date in my lifetime so I thank you for that
i truly believe the white sox could have won it all in 2008

the song is called XX intro from the movie project X
robert salazar the song came out way before project x
Cool story bro
The band is called The xx and the track is called Intro. This came out in 2009
Great memories. Let's add the latest one ... game 3 ALDS against Houston in 2021.
It's a fucking joke that avoiding a sweep in the ALDS is the height of our rebuild. Fucking sad.
Still got chills as I watched this just now. Go Sox!
You know you hit a huge HR when Paulie hugs you, Congrats from Griffey then Dye.
Would've been a thrill to give thome and Griffey a ring
Now Jim Thome is in the Hall Of Fame. Congrats Big Jim!!
I still have my BLACK TOWEL. Great game
Me too! Go White Sox!
I can't believe it took us 12 years to get back to the postseason
Me too! Me and my older brother went to the black out game! Wish White Sox could go back to the playoffs soon.
Great video Rob
this is how it's done cubs!! you guys blew it!!
were back 2021
Hell yea brother
Watching this again, getting pumped up for another Division Championship in 2021! I hope we clinch in Detroit!
From an Astros fan, this is pretty damn cool.
Absolutely loved that team in 2008.
Who watching in 2020 right before we make it back into the playoffs??
Really underrated game in baseball history. I didnt remember this game at until recently. Awesome blackout.

Love it. That was such a great game. I really thought we would of done better that year. GO WHITE SOX!!!!
This is such an amazing video! I found it so ironic that Morneau was playing against the Sox in this game and now he's on the team!
The Sox need new ownership.
ASAP
NEEDED NEW OWNERSHIP FOR A LONG TIME.
we need to get back asap its been almost 10 years.
It makes sense that 2020 is the year we make it back 😂 GO SOX GO! Congrats guys
I remember it like it was yesterday! Don't stop believing! Well have our run again 😎
yea you will

I was at the Black Out game. What a great memory. It’s a shame Thome didn’t win a championship with the Sox. A great ball player and class guy.
Most fun game ive ever seen. Nice editing
Can't wait for spring break to see the rebuilt product 2020 danm it's only Feb 12th we've been waiting so long.🍺⚾ And I'm going to miss Yomer
This White Sox crew was so good.
@Lighthouse in the Storm Living in Illinois has had me root for the White Sox. It's not like they're the RED Sox.
Wow and jus like that im in tears
Let’s go White Sox! 2020 visionnnnn

Congrats Jim Thome! Well deserved to be in the HOF.
@Lighthouse in the Storm Yes
This video becomes sadder and sadder every year we miss the playoffs
Last really good, all around and meaningful game from white sox
I needed this.
Oh man.. this was awesome. Things don’t look so hot right now. But I believe we have the talent to be in the wild card hunt this season. It’s going to be the bullpen and hitting coach holding us back.
i was sitting in right-center field at this game. i remember the league scoreboard being completely blank
can't wait to see U.S Cellular Field this packed later I'm July
Brian Anderson lolll he just like "omg I did it I did it I did SOMETHING good for Christ's sake.. COME HIGH FIVE ME cause it will never happen again"!!! Loll
He was so happy there loll
Brian made defensive plays like this routinely, he just didn't have a bat.
@@DrVink86 well he should have bought one then
after we won we had like griffey and thome
good times

great team...and Konerko#14
I was there ...what a game.i dont think anybidy sat that whole game
If Griffey had his power back then we could have got to the pennant
Meanwhile the Cubs lose twice on their own field.....
This team had such a swagger to em. It's a shame they had to face the devil rays the next series cuz I think they could've taken em if they were given more time to build off their hot streak
I think the White Sox 1983 Winning Ugly Team had just as much swagger, so did the 1977 South Side Hit Men have just as much swagger
Be there soon again #TRUSTTHEPROSCESS
i will always miss Joe Crede ...
A new era is coming. Don’t worry fellas.
Believe 🙏
Two Hall of Famers came on the team just to win this game for us.
I don't get it. There wasn't a black out in this video
Don't worry they shot it
Is there any way I can find the whole game?
I got it off itunes
Don't ever try to run on Griffey
song?
I had high hopes for that '08 team. I thought they were better than the '05 team and would win it all with that talent. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.
Go whitesox
You should have had that Indiana game prior to that Tigers game
What is so significant about this game? I’m sorry for not knowing
Sox tied the Twins in 08. It was a 1 game playoff.. a 163rd game for each team. The win would proceed to the wild card round.
they would show the whole Cubs one game playoff game but not white sox game and #blackout game
