By far, when this movie came out, for me it was the best Godzilla type movie during its time. The action and story line is real good. As others have said, it hold that New York mold real well.
In this movie Godzilla is a animal looking for a safe place to lay his eggs. Then tries to protect them. The military does just as much damage to the city. Godzilla views the humans attacking him and his babies as a threat just as much as the humans see him as a threat. Its not a monster movie. Godzilla only goes after the humans after they destroy his babies. And the only humans he did go after are the ones he thought did destroy them. The rest of the time he was just trying to defend himself and protect his eggs. The people see how dangerous he is and what threat he is posing, what damage he is unintentionally doing. I feel for both sides. It brought a realizm to the Godzilla movies.
Everyone misses that Bart Simpson is the receptionist at the news network. The film also has Hank azaria and Harry Shearer who alone do most of the voices in The Simpsons.
This movie was great for its time. It was a fun romp. And you could see the scenes! Today everything is dark to look at ”real” but is just used to cheap out on production.
Unpopular opinion: I think this version of Godzilla is vastly better than the traditional ones. I've never liked how Godzilla looked. This version is awesome.
Sorry how is it a different take? I never got why people bitched on and on about Godzilla, it's a giant monster it destroys cities, there's your plot, how is this worse than any other Godzilla film? It's not war and peace it's a very basic premise and this covers it. You can't have a bad Godzilla film cos theyre all B grade that's what Godzilla is, cheap trash, popcorn for the brain.
This is my childhood movie, I grew up with this movie because it's scarier and now realistic than Japanese version because Japanese monsters are just like power Rangers monsters costumes total faked but this, scared me when I first saw it at the theaters and now as a grown up 33 almost 34 on August 27, it's still my all time favorite movie!

This one is a classic. The graphics might have been poor. But gosh the creativity and the design! ❤
6:06 RUN Forest RUN
6:06 that line would never fly today lmao.
By far, when this movie came out, for me it was the best Godzilla type movie during its time. The action and story line is real good. As others have said, it hold that New York mold real well.
Huge godzilla fan! This one wasn't a big hit for me, but still a good movie....
This is the OG Godzilla. The best version of him
6:38 - 6:46 I want Godzilla to step on me so I can stick to his leg.
I don’t understand why this film gets so much hate. Yea it’s not perfect but still fun ride
It’s so good, I love all Godzilla movies, they are all just so good in their own ways
I think the show helped out a lot.
4:37 : God, that line... I think this was the very first one I knew before I saw the movie back then 🤣
My favourite godzilla movie
unbelievable cgis for 98 year, I am impressed now in 2024
Every step Godzilla takes cost millions of dollars in damages
6:25 this has been so funny at the time. And it still is. Nice touch adding a little humor to the film.
I love this movie. Always have
First Zilla movie i ever watched and loved it a lot
Buddy said GOTDAM!!!!! loud asf 😂😂😂
2:21 that shot is amazing
‘
Movie is from 1998
Everyone misses that Bart Simpson is the receptionist at the news network. The film also has Hank azaria and Harry Shearer who alone do most of the voices in The Simpsons.
This movie was great for its time. It was a fun romp. And you could see the scenes! Today everything is dark to look at ”real” but is just used to cheap out on production.
See a couple Sopranos alum in this clip:
Mikey Palmice (Al Sapienza) at 2:01
Jimmy Altieri (Joseph Badalucco Jr.) at 2:29
That proves it yet again: the cameraman never dies! 😅
Unpopular opinion: I think this version of Godzilla is vastly better than the traditional ones. I've never liked how Godzilla looked. This version is awesome.
This is the best Godzilla movie for me
How deep do you think it is that close to shore?😂😂 must be one magical size shifting godzilla
Best Godzilla movie to date
That's cap 😂
Horrible taste and opinion. Get better standards
After watching the older and newer Godzilla movies, I now understand why this movie gets dunked on so hard.
Such a different take on Godzilla
A bad one, at that
Sorry how is it a different take? I never got why people bitched on and on about Godzilla, it's a giant monster it destroys cities, there's your plot, how is this worse than any other Godzilla film? It's not war and peace it's a very basic premise and this covers it. You can't have a bad Godzilla film cos theyre all B grade that's what Godzilla is, cheap trash, popcorn for the brain.
The most accurate scene in this entire movie ...
when the NY mayor claims to "have reduced crime" !
NOTHING has changed !😅
This is the movie that made me fall in love with godzilla
This is my childhood movie, I grew up with this movie because it's scarier and now realistic than Japanese version because Japanese monsters are just like power Rangers monsters costumes total faked but this, scared me when I first saw it at the theaters and now as a grown up 33 almost 34 on August 27, it's still my all time favorite movie!
the truck driver with the headphones on... man, do you not feel the earth shaking from the 50 ton massiv lizard?
I loved 💕 this Godzilla or rather *ZILLA* 🦖
Just a normal day in Manhattan 😂!
6:38 - 6:45 If Godzilla steps on me, what will happen to me?
