Why Taiwanese never make movie about ancient culture of Taiwan????
король ancient culture of Taiwan basically is indigenous culture which I doubt is well documented. Not much Taiwanese history was documented pre1600s. Only know that some Mainland Chinese migrated to Penghu islands. More history was documented after 1600s when Dutch arrived Taiwan (Formosa). Dutch, Span and kingdom of Tungning (Taiwan Indigenous people) rule different part of Taiwan at the time. The fall of Ming dynasty in china means large amount of Chinese migrated to Taiwan and drove out dutch government. Anyway, if you google more on Taiwanese history you can clearly see why it is not quiet possible to make ancient Taiwanese culture film.
Anyway, Blue brave: the legend of Formosa in 1895 comes to mind when talking about historical Taiwanese film (don't think it was show on international film festival) . Then comes Warriors of the rainbow: Seediq Bale talking about 1930 conflict of Taiwanese indigenous people vs Japanese government at the time, this was show on few international festivals.
Currently new film is in the planning stage ... I think they say the story covers indigenous Taiwan, Dutch arrival and Ming Dynasty's Chinese migration.
***** The only native taiwanese movie, i know is warriors of the rainbow seediq bale.
But i thought taiwanese don't like associate anything that is related to china, so why they make movie about china?

Hou Hsiao Hsien is my favorite auther director in Taiwan.Taiwan is more comfortable than Japan!Canne's atmosphere is so soffisticated and gorgeous.
