This is the weirdest comment section. We all know how well he can play he’s just jamming an old tune for fun? a lot of you are way to focused on the odd mistake lol

Particularly impressive hearing songs off edge of the earth being played live. Empyreal is a damn hard song to play as it is. He does vocals on top of it too haha. Sands of Time has some interesting time changes as well so can imagine that being hard to do as well.

This video serves as a reminder that even the best of us fall short. "After Lifeless Years" became a cornerstone of inspiration for me when trying to craft guitar tone. When he told me that all it was is a 5150 with a 4x10 mesa cab running celestion v30s, that was when I understood what it means to have a tight mix. The first 3 seconds of this song when the guitars and bass drop was something I stayed obsessed with.

Who cares how the main band plays it?
I change things all the time to suit my playing to be more economical. Don't change it just to be the same as the band.
A big example is during dream theaters stream of consciousness. At 39 seconds, there is a riff where John stretches from the third to the 8th FRET! That is an insane stretch! So he plays 3rd fret on the A string and 8th fret on the D string. I play 3rd on A string and 3rd on the G string, muting the D string.
It may not sound exactly the same since a G string has a different tone, but I would rather not ruin my fingers practicing that insane stretch when it sounds 99% the same hehe ;)
