Denmark has decided to send all its artillery to Ukraine - Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark. "Ukraine is asking us for ammunition and artillery now. We, Denmark, have decided to transfer all our artillery to Ukraine. So, sorry, friends, there is military equipment in Europe, it is not only a matter of production. We have weapons, ammunition, air defense systems, which we do not use yet. They must be handed over to Ukraine."
Patriotism, in my view, is a love for one's country and a desire that it be the best that it can be, coupled with a willingness to work towards that end. Nationalism, on the other hand, is the belief that one's country is the best country in the world, by virtue of the fact that one was born there.
i use 'patriotism' to mean love of your nation, but with the understanding that nation=/= state or government or the land or the flag, our nation is the people.
@@imperialmotoring3789 - Patriotism is good, that is appreciating or taking pride in the country you’re in or your country of origin, caring about its continued success, etc. Nationalism is the belief that the Nation comes FIRST, before citizens, before right and wrong, and that your nation is better than others. As we move towards a trend that is a blend of Authoritarianism and Theocratic rule, the difference is critically important. 🤓 Nationalism; plural noun: nationalisms identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. Thank you Beau! When you start your video with "How there internet people", EVERYONE in the house yells "Hi Beau". Even if they are in different rooms. It has become a family welcome! Love it!
Would like to inform you, that "Howdy" does have a Wikipedia entry... Howdy is an informal salutation in the English language often used in the Southern United States. Originally a shortened form of the inquiry How do ye?, it was first used in Southern England in the 18th century. 🙂
One of the things I am most furious with MAGA about is their warping of patriotism into a weapon of hate. Patriotism to me is a lot like parenting. In the past, parents tried to encourage good behavior in their kids, correct any bad behavior in their kids, and prepare them for the future. Today most parents just want to ignore the behavior of their kids and insist the rest of the world not bother them about it. Patriotism should be like old-fashioned parenting. Recognize and be proud of the good things our country features and has done but equally be aware of and correct bad things that exist in our country and that our country has done. Also, keep preparing our citizens for the future.
I agree with the point you're making but hell no to your premise. ... Old fashioned parenting was beating children, ignoring their needs and disowning them for loving the wrong person. Today's parenting is being informed, accepting your kids as their own person, and trying to make the world better for them. What you take issue with is the negative examples that make it online. Old fashioned parenting gave us Eric Trump. New fashioned parenting gave us Malala Yousafzai. (Or you know.. Old fashioned gave us Beau and new gave us what's-their-name Flash with the cult and shit.. It's not the parenting, it's the people)
I just saw a headline saying that Ukraine pulled their forces out of a city. But I also heard it was costing Russia 20 troops per Ukrainian killed. That's grim for both sides.
It's pretty much how the war has been going on since it started. Even with ammo, I don't know if they can easily get it to the front lines to push back with. They'd need like air power or something which I don't know if they could keep anyways since Russia does have air defenses too so... it's a shitshow, a war.
Avvdika. It's been going for some time. City over sells it a fair but it has been a highly contested area, with the lack of ammo hindering Ukraine's fire support too much to continue holding. They have built significant reinforcements behind though, so it's highly unlikely to lead to a flood of Russian's consuming large swathes of territory.

It could be setting the stage for a Subatai’s Wheel. It puts the Russian forces on the move forward, which is likely to bite them in the ass if Ukraine has the defensive structure in place to hit them on the move forward. It lets Ukraine continue holding the defensive advantage.

Lol. That stingray story is funny cause it sparked a conversation (it's still happening) with my religious and non religious work mates. Is this immaculate conception? Did god do this? Is Jesus coming back as a stingray? And the debate is getting loud. And it's only been a few minutes since I played this. Had to stop video to post this. Tooooo funny Lol. Immaculate conception refers to Mary's conception, not Jesus', so that's not really relevant. And while I'm amused by the idea of Jesus coming back as a stingray, my own thoughts went to Shmi Skywalker from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
If the discussion gets to wild, maybe tell some of them to google 'parthenogenesis'. It's been known for quite a long time that several animals can do this, so even if it is possibly a first for a stingray, it's not really somehing to get overly exited about.
I'm on the left and am exceptionally proud of my nation. USA yet that doesn't mean I think we in the US are above reproach. We make mistakes and do many things wrong, since we are the US we do it fricken big. We can also be straight up evil, when attempting to appear like we are helping, but the truth is we are helping US. We have warts. We need to be better. Someone can know these things and be willing to say them out loud and be critical of our failures. Yet still love this nation and do what we can to address the problems to hopefully fix the things we do that are bad and that list is lengthy. Being a patriot in my mind means helping US to be who we aspire to be. Big dam job.
Very much agree. I lived through the turbulent times of the 60's -- and the decades that followed -- and can remember that though certain milestones were achieved, they were FAR from perfect times and certainly not a perfect society. ...but, looking back, in spite of the injustices that continued to occur, the TREND over time was always TOWARD progress. The regression that we're seeing now is something entirely different. I hope this is a temporal anomaly and not actually a reverse in trend. Because I tend to think that the words... "in order to form a more perfect union" ...was not simply a grammatical error by Jefferson. But rather, intentionally written, in recognition that it's an ongoing task.
@@justsayin...2784 The idea of the USA is a fantastic one. The actions of the same leave a lot to be desired. Yet the idea of doing things better still exists. In the words of Langston Hughes (in the poem ‘Let America be America Again’), we are “…the land that never has been yet - And yet must be - the land where *every* man is free.” I absolutely recommend looking it up, it’s incredible and unfortunately incredibly timely, even decades later. In it, he also says, “…call me any ugly name you choose- The steel of freedom does not stain. From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives, We must take back our land again, America! O, yes, I say it plain, America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath- America will be!” AmericaWillBe is a pretty cool slogan, and a lovely way to illustrate the sentiment. The grass, we are told in an old saying, is always greener on the other side. Usually with the implication that people always want what they don’t have. But, I have also heard, more pragmatically, that the grass is greener where you water it. We owe it to all the generations before, and to those who will have to live with the world we leave them. We owe it to ourselves, our loved ones, and to others around the world to not give in, and not give up. There will never not be bad. People will never all agree. But everything we’ve gained, every inch of ground, was due to the concerted efforts of many hands working ceaselessly to hold the darkness at bay. The work will never be over, like a pendulum on a clock more than some static destination of ‘utopia’. But less bad is less bad, and it’s worth striving for. As someone who studied archaeology in college, I can attest that things do not always get better in some timeline of progress. But they do always change. Like many, I have fantasized about leaving for greener pastures. But even if I could, anymore (being poor and disabled is not particularly conducive to this), I realized that would mean abandoning the most vulnerable to the very problems I would like to escape. It would mean tacitly handing over the reins of the largest economy on the planet and the most well-funded military with around 40% of the world’s nukes to those with the worst intentions. A lot of folks around the world are depending on us not giving up on America. A lot of people here, too. I don’t blame folks for fleeing when their safety is at stake. But, what of the poor and the disabled? What about the children who don’t have a choice? What of the indigenous people who, as I’ve seen pointed out, have already been living through a post-apocalyptic scenario for generations? What of our allies abroad? As a queer autistic person with physical and mental chronic health issues, as a fellow American, and as a fellow human, I must plead for people to try to water the grass where they are. The outsized influence of the U.S. also makes it a problem that’s ultimately kind of impossible to run away from, anyway. If you are feeling short on hope, it can help to look how far we have come. Look up, say, charts of ‘child mortality through history’ (our world in data, iirc, is the site I’m thinking of). Or literacy rates. Or permaculture projects around the world. We have a long way to go. It may be discouraging, and the scope of any one individual’s ability to change things usually minuscule. A drop in the bucket. What is an ocean, though, but a multitude of drops? In this day and age, our fates are increasingly tied together no matter where we are. United we stand, divided we fall. Remember that divide and conquer has been a tried and true method. If we are at each other’s throats, both our backs are exposed. If we fail in our efforts, at least we’ll have gone out swinging. “There is good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.” Be excellent to each other, comrades. Use your voice, and just as importantly, your ears. Besides, grass is overrated. Let’s get gardening. TL;DR - America Will Be

Good morning. I have been following the Battle of Andivka fairly closely over the past 4 months. Andivka is this years Bahkmut. Ukraine made a strategic decision to withdraw from Andivka. Russia had moved a large number of troops into the area outnumbering Ukranianian troops by 8 or 10 : 1. The situation became untenable. This was desctibed as an orderly withdrawal. Ukraine has developed 3 or 4 new lines of defense just west of Andivka.
It might help vatniks to put in perspective the “significant loss” is a suburb of Donetsk covering a few km square, that has been on the front line since 2014. In the process Moskal personnel losses peaked at 20:1 and averaged about 12:1. Vehicle losses 10:1. AFU finally withdrew in reasonably good order to prevent encirclement. There were known to be 6 wounded soldiers who could not be evacuated safely. So… That’s what they are touting. **Editing to clarify: 100,000 RU casualties is roughly for the eastern front during the Avdiivka attack, not just Avdiivka specifically. For that suburb, UA lost roughly 1 reinforced brigade while RU lost approximately 12 reinforced brigades, estimated at 30,000 RU killed & seriously wounded in fighting for Avdiivka alone. Needed clarification so it does not appear to overstate RU losses on that specific axis.** The pro russia folks should zoom out the map to see the territorial gain. 🤷♂️
@@i-love-comountains3850 Interesting, I hadn’t thought of that, but not a bad analogy in some ways I think… 🤔 Breed’s hill might be roughly comparable as a fortified position adjacent to a key city, Boston, vs Donetsk… The colonials were attempting to press an attack, while UA was simply attempting to hold & inflict losses in the face of enemy attack, so a bit different tactically. And of course the British losses of roughly 2:1 were a wake-up call for them, even though the absolute numbers weren’t really significant. OTOH Muscovy’s far more dramatic losses make little difference to them psychologically. Their military bloggers complain a bit, but this is nothing that Putin really cares about while he is mainly sacrificing ethnic minorities so far. That having been said, there are indications Muscovy is massing on other axes to press their ammunition advantage. A few more Avdiivka/Bakhmut style “victories” could push Muscovy to face the prospect of full personnel mobilization, which could precipitate other events.

Legislation should be single issue bills to show the voters exactly what politicians support & oppose! Enough of this "well the bill didn't address such & such" or "there was too much "pork in the bill"" Have a bill just on the border, another separate bill on a single country aid package & so on. It would be a lot of work, but it would be less of a waste of time & money than these R's hearings where the key witnesses is indicted for lying!
I've thought this for 45 years! One issue, one bill. At least for most issues. Some (eg, the budget), by their nature, involve multiple issues and interests.
That has been my complaint since I was old enough to understand why US involvement in the raging Vietnam War was wrong. Saying "my country right or wrong" without following through on keeping or making it right is an old tactic to invalidate any calls for progress.✌🖖

"My country right or wrong" never meant you fix what's "wrong", that's a progressive view. Conservatives ALWAYS insisted that what it means is that you don't question what you're doing, you should just do what you're told whether it's right or wrong (ie: shut up and follow orders). I don't hear it much these days but that was a Vietnam war conservative rallying cry when people were increasingly pointing out that the war was wrong.
The phrase has quite a history. It's not as straightforward as you think: Commodore Stephan Decatur, 1816 “Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong!” Edmund Burke, 1790 in Reflections on the Revolution in France “To make us love our country, our country ought to be lovely.” Senator Mathew Carpenter and Senator Carl Schurz, 1871 In a debate, Carpenter said, "My country, right or wrong." Shurz replied with, “My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.” G K Chesterton in The Defendant, 1901 “My country, right or wrong' is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying 'My mother, drunk or sober.'” He explained, “No doubt if a decent man's mother took to drink he would share her troubles to the last; but to talk as if he would be in a state of gay indifference as to whether his mother took to drink or not is certainly not the language of men who know the great mystery.” Patrick O'Brian wrote in his novel "Master and Commander": "But you know as well as I, patriotism is a word; and one that generally comes to mean either my country, right or wrong, which is infamous, or my country is always right, which is imbecile.”

Patriotism is one of those words. Christian is another. They have become so distorted. Both SHOULD mean that the individual who identifies as such is a part of a community who wants the community to thrive and grow and understands that every other individual in the community needs to thrive and grow. That person works to make that happen. HOWEVER, in American English, patriotism and Christianity are both used to indicate an arrogance and unfounded feeling of superiority over anyone who uses empathy, kindness, love, etc as a guiding principal. They are both extreme individualism, entwined with capitalism and greed, and power/strength, might makes right attitude.

I appreciate the discussion of the difference between patriotism and nationalism; well done
Yes! Clear and excellently laid out so even the uber patriotic might get it.
Patriotism without Nationalism is neither.
Nationalism; plural noun: nationalisms
identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.
Nationalism, ideology based on the premise that the individual’s loyalty and devotion to the nation-state surpass other individual or group interests.

"The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion."- Thomas Paine

Well said indeed!
It's not the parenting, it's the people)
Well said.
It's because their idea of "Patriotism" is actually Jingoism, and they don't know that word.
@@michaelpineiro533It’s really a combination of jingoism and nationalism. You weren’t wrong, but you were missing another piece that was also key.
Bakhmut and Avdiivka bear a striking resemblance to The Battle of Bunker Hill.

Is Jesus coming back as a stingray?
And the debate is getting loud.
And it's only been a few minutes since I played this.

Wasn't there a shark in the tank too? Could it be an inter species baby? A stingray with a large fin on it's back???
It's gotta be Stingray Jesus. :D
Parthenogenesis is observed in many animals, fish included. No need to invoke the magic sky man.

"in order to form a more perfect union"

But rather, intentionally written, in recognition that it's an ongoing task.

The idea of the USA is a fantastic one. The actions of the same leave a lot to be desired. Yet the idea of doing things better still exists. In the words of Langston Hughes (in the poem ‘Let America be America Again’), we are “…the land that never has been yet -
And yet must be - the land where *every* man is free.”
I absolutely recommend looking it up, it’s incredible and unfortunately incredibly timely, even decades later.
In it, he also says,
“…call me any ugly name you choose-
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!
O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath-
America will be!”
AmericaWillBe is a pretty cool slogan, and a lovely way to illustrate the sentiment.
Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.”
Be excellent to each other, comrades.
Use your voice, and just as importantly, your ears.
Besides, grass is overrated. Let’s get gardening.
TL;DR - America Will Be

I have been following the Battle of Andivka fairly closely over the past 4 months.
Andivka is this years Bahkmut.
Ukraine made a strategic decision to withdraw from Andivka.
Russia had moved a large number of troops into the area outnumbering Ukranianian troops by 8 or 10 : 1.
The situation became untenable.
This was desctibed as an orderly withdrawal.
Ukraine has developed 3 or 4 new lines of defense just west of Andivka.
Thank you for the update!

Needed clarification so it does not appear to overstate RU losses on that specific axis.**
The pro russia folks should zoom out the map to see the territorial gain. 🤷♂️
The Battle of Bunker Hill comes to mind.

I love the accusation of naivete and childishness that come from so many people these days. It's just a low key admission that they don't agree with you, don't like your world view, and can't come up with a better critique. They think they know best but refuse to learn better {Is there a state where Senator is not a state wide race? Generally speaking}

Charles McGonigal, 55, supervised national security operations for the FBI in New York for nearly two years before his retirement in 2018. He appeared to advance Albanian interests in the U.S. after he asked for and received roughly $225,000 in 2017
(He is) A former high-ranking FBI counterintelligence official was sentenced on Friday to more than two years in prison for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash from a businessman with ties to the Albanian government - and trying to conceal their corrupt financial relationship.
For a lot of people on the left, even some veterans; patriotism = jingoism
As always, my favorite part of Sunday mornings ☀️ Thanks Beau
It's stranger to me that everyone is more worried about this in a political way - classified information was posted on a gaming platform by a lowly 22 yr old national guardsmann, and that was a couple of news cycles, and poof! Gone.
"... the Biden impeachment inquiry fell apart... "
... when really hit.
When blown on or jostled, as well
I think you do an excellent job Beau. Glad I found you. Keep up the great work, please.❤
Estonia. Americans feel the same way.
The biggest exercise of our defense forces is called "Hedgehog". And its motto is "every thorn counts", that is, every participant is important and affects the final result. When NATO's biggest "thorn" becomes soft .... it worries.
Greetings from Tallinn.
Beau; The most trusted news source available to the public that I know of. It’s mine anyway… thanks
Hi Beau and all you internet people. Beau, i could listen to you all day!❤
Yep Beau, we are going to need you to start doing hourly updates!
NLRB, not decades old, but almost a century old - 89 years ago.
And interestingly, you sparked me to read about the history of the A;brecht family in their ownership of Trader Joes.
There was a mango tree on the property line of the house I rented when I was in West Palm Beach. It produced the best, sweetest, most flavorful mangoes I have ever had. I made so much preserves. So much canning! I wish I could grow mangoes up here in Georgia now.
We had some peach trees when I was growing up; they hire small fruit that had as much flavor in that little package as large peaches. Not sure the variety. This was forty years ago. The trees died since. 😢 They made great jam!
I agree with your take on nationalism but would add that the kind of nationalism we're talking about here could also be described as backwards looking isolationism. I guess we haven't learned from history since we seem to be poised to repeat it.
It's not as straightforward as you think:
Commodore Stephan Decatur, 1816
“Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong!”
Edmund Burke, 1790 in Reflections on the Revolution in France
“To make us love our country, our country ought to be lovely.”
Senator Mathew Carpenter and Senator Carl Schurz, 1871
In a debate, Carpenter said, "My country, right or wrong."
Shurz replied with, “My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.”
G K Chesterton in The Defendant, 1901
“My country, right or wrong' is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying 'My mother, drunk or sober.'”
He explained, “No doubt if a decent man's mother took to drink he would share her troubles to the last; but to talk as if he would be in a state of gay indifference as to whether his mother took to drink or not is certainly not the language of men who know the great mystery.”
Patrick O'Brian wrote in his novel "Master and Commander":
"But you know as well as I, patriotism is a word; and one that generally comes to mean either my country, right or wrong, which is infamous, or my country is always right, which is imbecile.”
@@bonnie115 I will kind of stand with how I heard it used during Vietnam, but that is a great brief historic overview of the usage and variations of that phrase. Very interesting. Thanks!
I cherish you Beau.
We all do! ❤
The vacation is a delay tactic straight out of Trump's playbook.
THE perfect name for Trump's gawdy gold sneaker would be CON-verse.
Santos tricked the voters of his New York district... can they sue him?
Patriotism is one of those words. Christian is another. They have become so distorted. Both SHOULD mean that the individual who identifies as such is a part of a community who wants the community to thrive and grow and understands that every other individual in the community needs to thrive and grow. That person works to make that happen. HOWEVER, in American English, patriotism and Christianity are both used to indicate an arrogance and unfounded feeling of superiority over anyone who uses empathy, kindness, love, etc as a guiding principal. They are both extreme individualism, entwined with capitalism and greed, and power/strength, might makes right attitude.
He thought he was pulling a sneaker con but ended up getting the boo't!
Naivety isn't one of your traits. But Rosy? Hell yeah.
I just wonder who would be naive enought to think Beau's views are naive.

Devine Birth; Stingray Jesus! It hadn't occurred to me before that Jesus would have had XX chromosomes.
I'm not sure if rays have XX and XY. Different species can have different sex chromosomes. But yes, the child of parthogenesis would also be female most likely.
That should be a cover band name, Trees not Planted.
I like it 😊
Informed,calm and insiteful. Thank you.
Dear fellow Canadian: don't give them any ideas! ;-)
Super cool updates on your matchmaking! ;-)
But please don't leave us to create a dating app ... we need your sensible worldview on so many things besides dating :-D
At 23:45, you are discussing your citrus. The three people I knew while in Florida (Deltona, DeLand) with citrus have lost almost all their trees to the citrus disease. Has this affected you at all?
Not at all. What hit here was a deep freeze. It took out about half of my citrus trees.
The update on the coworkers was just the bit of good news i needed today❤
Just in regards to your peach trees, nothing is better than tree ripened peaches (falling off the tree stage). They cannot be compared to anything you can get in a store or farmer’s market.
Every parent or teacher at some time, somewhere."The answer is not going to change." Long gaze at the camera. Nicely done 😊
Thank you Team Beau for putting a big smile on my face for the last three questions. I listen intently to all of the content and a lot of the “news” is critical for me to know and is also heartbreaking. The patriotism/nationalism question is really important from a content position and perhaps Beau could do a whole video on it. But hearing about the trees and the results of dating questions helps me to about my work and life with balance… We can do what Beau and you all do… share why we decided on this tree or that one… encourage those around us to be open to love where it finds us. Have a good week. ❤
You have quite the orchard and the new trees are awesome additions. I hope you get the citrus too. But I don't believe a mango would survive there unless someone has created a cold tolerant one. You might look into trees with several varieties of fruits grafted on one trunk. I've seen them with 5 types. There's a tree at a college with 40.
Maybe a dwarf mango in a pot and bring it indoors during freezes.
They will survive 23:05 soon enough!
I don't get how that leaker about the space nukes was so ignorant. Use of an EMP as a weapon is something that has been toyed with and considered by every single niclear power for decades, already and that basic info has been in the public for the entire time. Ive known of this concept since the 90s and Im pretty sure it was known publicly a few decades before that.
Starfish Prime was in 1962.
Hawaii at least knew about EMP since then.

Beau, thanks for the update on th framer and surgeon as well as the guy and his co-worker.
Good to have updates on some of these ‘feel good’ stories.
I think ‘love’ gives us the best sense of hope.
I also loved the Mrs. Beau Valentine’s Day. Nice to see another man that loves his wife as I love mine.
Keep up the good work ‘team beau’
I have a great apple tree. 4 varieties on one tree. Akane, Fuji, Honeycrisp, Mac. Not sure a mango tree would survive here lol🇨🇦
When Beau said "the framer makes what a framer makes [...]", my brain completed the thought: "frames", and then got confused at surgeons making surgeries.
I remember the southern sweet girl! I also remember the look on Beau's face when the guy inadvertently revealed he was in love! Remember folks - all you need is love.
"A patriot is someone who loves his fatherland, and a nationalist is someone who despises the fatherlands of others"

Of course if it is parthogenesis then the offspring will most likely be female.
I didn't know you could do pears in the South! We have a truly ancient Bartlett pear tree (100+ years) here. It is very different than the modern ones (it's not edible when green) and the flavor is incredible.
With those fruit trees, maybe next you need some BEES. Take up beekeeping, you can have THOUSANDS of pets.
Thanks for all you do, sir! Love ya Beau!

Regarding patriotism I quote Richard Wolfe "the nation state has had it's day. It was a nice run."
