3 relatively long videos, 9 years, near 1,000,000 views, and ZERO 'dislikes'.
Really speaks to how well you've presented this information. Well done.
I can't find one decent video that goes in depth as how to shift gears showing hand, feet, and gauge observation at the same time!!!!!! Your videos are a blessing and God Bless you for the time and effort. I can't tell you how much this helped me in obtaining my truck driving career!!!!!
If you ever step away from driving, you would make a fantastic instructor. Well done, especially doing it on a video. You've explained it better than i've seen some people teach it in the truck.
Watched all three videos. Really appreciate the time you took to explain things. And your added commentary / humor was a nice touch to keep me engaged. Thank you!
Great explanation, i have had my class1 license for 14 years and you just explained shifting better than my instructor did. Good to see someone wants to help new drivers. Thanks.
As someone who has only driven a stick on a 4-wheeler and heading to Prime's student program in 4 days, I want to thank you for making these double shifting videos as clear and simple as possible to digest. It's easily the most complex and intimidating concept for a beginner to grasp when it comes to truck driving.
This guy is good. He has brought driving a class 8 tractor down to its simplest. Many professional teachers couldn't explain a task/problem and have his/her students understand as easily as he does it.Good Job.
Ever think of starting your own truck driving school? Just a thought. You really do a great job and have a great attitude.
E-This is the best video on shifting I've seen. You are an awesome teacher! It is definitely a calling
Right now I am struggling with double clutching. Your videos showed me more than my instructors have. Thanks and well done.
Thank you so much. I just got my CDL permit and now I am getting reading for the behind the wheel practice. This has helped a lot. Thanks again.
What I did to learn shifting pattern is got to the truck earlier than everyone else in class and just work the shifting pattern with engine off. It's like learning to play a guitar, I needed to develop mechanic/motor-skills on shifting. Even now if I start messing up I will sit in the parking lot and work the pattern. It's a save place with no distraction. It helps me a lot. Many times I had to let go of the shifter to find the middle wall. I would loose my place in shifting. Thanks all you do.
For someone like me who has never stepped foot behind the wheel of a truck, your 3 videos are such a confidence booster. I will definitely take this lesson with me when I start training for my CDL. Thank you :)
im a truckr but i was stukk in a auto over the road for so long i lost it your vari scale brought it all back tyvm u helped me pass my test for my new company
I have class A license and been driving a truck for sometine. But when it come to better explanation of trucking and how to do what and when . The Answer is with boyyoutuber . I respect this guy knowledge, he is telling like its supposed to be . Anyone that want learn about trucking should subscribe to hes chanel and learn more . Even you've been driving for while . This is how these trucks are made to operate. There's lot of more people giving explanation but he is going straight to the point of what you should know about trucking.
Thank you.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to do these videos. As a driver at ASD school of driving these have been very helpful for a struggle noob like myself.
Great videos E, I think I've watched everyone you have posted. I was like you looking for information about trucking and what I'm getting myself into. Not only are you a great inspiration for future truck drivers your also a great person for sharing all your knowledge. I just finished my 2 weeks in Millington, TN at the Swift academy and am now waiting for a road trainer to start my journey. Thanks again for everything!!!!
This series you made is excellent , a great help, thanks for breaking the difficult and complicated, and making it easy and simple for truck learners, God bless you as blessed us with the lessons .
Thank you for posting this series. You explained this very thoroughly and made it easy to understand. I will definitely practice all the things you recorded for us so that way when it comes time to get back into the track I haven't forgotten everything I did learn when I went to trucking school. Thanks again man!
Excellent series on double clutching. You cover everything I could have thought of and then some I hadn't. Thank you.
The most helpfull film i have seen yet, ive got a late start with trucking, im driving mid sized trucks around Sydney, next year im getting my prime mover licence and im going to give tractor trailers a real go. Thank you man
Thanks for posting this series. I've had 4 drivers at work try to show me how to double clutch and they aren't very good at explaining going by the rpm's or why it needs to be that way. Granted, they aren't instructors, and that's why I'm here watching your video. I've got my permit and just need a truck that will pass the walk around to take the road test. I think I'll do much better after watching your video and a little more practice shifting.
Thank you e, I am just learning to use an 18 wheeler, a Peterbilt to be exact, to practice with. I am not having much difficulty up shifting, it's the down shifting that I am struggling with. I believe you hit the nail on the head, when you say a "slow shifter" I believe that is possibly what I am struggling with. But thank you for your videos.
I like the drill example on straight stretch of road. Can try that.
A lot of good information here for students, permanently relevant.
I like the view of it as an art form.
You also had good examples for slow shifters and how to correct.
I haven’t still seen any videos as helpful as this one and it’s more than a decade later since you created it.
Nice job!
Thank you very much for such great videos. They helped me enormously in passing my training and CDL test. You are right about trucks can very on RPM shifting. Example the truck I'm in shifting is between 900-1200 rpm. I take it up to 1400 or 1500 rpm and I have problems in getting it out of gear unless I am going up hill or up an off ramp. The rig I used for my final test drive for the company I work for, I had to use a higher rpm like you stated. Your videos and training is great! Thank You!
I"m doing right now class 1, watching your videos I learned me more than I learn from my instructor who does not explain much, witch is to bad because it cost me a lot of money.
Thanks a lot
Excellent video series. I'm going for my test this coming Friday and this is the area I need most help with. Your tutorial take guessing out of the whole procedure. God Bless and many safe miles.
Thx man, I'm in a training right now and I was about to abandon if I didn't get better. You helped me on my understanding of the situation and show me that it's normal and it take time to learn ( something I wish I could put in my head ) ! Good Job :)
Thanks again for posting this up. Hope it helps me realize and understand what I'm doing better.
Hey E... I really appreciatet this video bro. This was great information. I might have to watch it alot more times, but this is by far the best shifting demonstration on youtube...PERIOD. It sucks to see you leave the industry bro. But whatever you end up doing, I hope god blesses you with as many blessings and fruit reeping as you gave knowledge to us newbies. I start school on monday, December 17th, and I can assure you, for those who dont know, I will tell them about your channel. Be blessed
It was confusing at first but I was getting into it the only confusing part was up shifting and downshifting I want to be a truck driver when I grow up and learn more of what you did in all three parts of this video. I really enjoyed it and it was funny of how you made the truck sound and the way you was shifting the gears out. I was confused when you was using the accelerator, the clutch, and the brake but you are the best driver I've ever saw. If you have any more videos please email me
Hey man, Good stuff! straightforward and hands on-sort of. Good to learn something from you. Not a driver myself but the dream is there at age 53. Peace and rock on!
The absolute BEST shifting video series on TH-cam! I hope to see more from you sometime soon, if you get back out on the road. Keep it up buddy!
I know that this review will help me land my job tomorrow. Thanks a tonne. You're the man!
Best video I've seen I learned more here than anywhere, thanks much appreciated
Great video's and great info E, I'm sure this took a lot of work, but it will be helpfull for the new guys and gals out there, so just wanted to say thanks as a fellow trucker I been through the learning curves to and it's great to see effort to help others out here, hope you find a job that meets your needs brother weather it's in or out of the trucking industry, God Bless!!
please keep up the mentoring your videos have helped me out alot in my adventures to becoming a truck driver, ive watched as many of your videos as possible inbetween the studying the DMV manual and i just wanted to say you give me a visual to what the paper book is trying to say. thanks alot
You are so perfect in your job. It was so professional lessons. I learned very much from you.hope to prepare more useful videos. Good luck
I'm a student in truck driving school and the videos was very helpful thankyou very much
Thanks man haven't used a stick for a few years, been driving auto's and this was a nice refresher.
thanks a lot. i have a horrible driver trainer. i had to learn from your video and go back to training the next day and shift properly because my trainer was not explaining and demonstrating for me
Yes Sir,, I can Add to the Other Viewers. Now I Know how to do it. Very , Very We’ll Instructed. I Have a Class A Cdl ,, But all of our Trucks are Automatic. Now I feel Like I can Comfortably Double Clutch. Great Job instructing. Your Excellent.
Thank you going through all trouble to make these videos! When I become a trucker, I'm going to start a channel. I take my CDL road test in 3 weeks :)
Tank you for the video this very well god bless you
thanks bro. of all the videos i've wathced (rhanks to all the guyz out there trying sincerely to help us who's now learning) yours is the best so far. keep up the good works. hope to see you on the road when i get out there. thanks again. this helped alot.
Thank you for these videos. Very helpful. I couldn't find a video for recovering the lost gears. ( Downshift mistiming) How to recover from it. I think lot of people have this issue and its not covered in great depth. Thanks once again.
Yourboye, your videos are the best man! Great job! Thank you for sharing brother. I am using 2 clothes brushes on the floor to simulate the clutch and the accelerator while trying to build muscle memory like you are teaching. Outstanding work!
Enjoy your video i was thinking what they mean by double clutch but now i understand well structured video i catch it so fast cant believe myself you be a great Trainer respect bro
Awesome man, Im ghost shifting now. Great info, I will have an edge up when I start my training.
God Bless brotha'.
Thank you so much for your videos. They've given me more confidence in understanding & applying the insight.
Thanks for the detailed information! I'm having trouble down shifting. But with your explanation it's more clear to me now what I need to look for and practice! Thank you!!
Hey E... I begin my road training tomorrow where I learn how to double clutch.. This video really came in handy.. Thank you!!!
Great series of videos, 3rd video, like your shifting exercise. A great refresher
My boy this video helped me get a lot of experience thank you so much and keep helping our generation I appreciate that
Great set of videos. Very informative. A must see for new drivers. Keep up the good work.
Awesome Videos! you should do this for a living. I started my road training last week & your 1,2 tempo for up shifting...1,2,3 tempo for down shifting, I have my cousin thinking I'm a genius, in two week i'm going through the gears like a pro! Its really work. Thank you.
The best an simplest explanation ever
Great explaination of the variance, it makes everthing easier to understand that you don't have to be right on a particular number to shift. Also, explaining that if someone is a slow shifter, they should go higher on the RPM's is important. I wish my instructor could have seen this video before training me. Infact, I think I'll send him the link.....lol. I'm serious!
you`re a very good teacher...
thanks tomorrow is my second day behind the wheel in training. i WILL use what you posted to get through it. I think it will help.
thank you so much E!!!! keep up!!! I'm new in this industry and still learning
Awesome video man. You nailed right on the mark. Ive learned the same way. The key is to keep it in your mind. then it's like second nature
ha thanks you soo much this helps me understand the double clutching i am going to be going into trucking and this will give me more understanding when i start to drive the trucks
Nice video. First Freightliner I saw that is 8 speed, all I saw were 10 speed Eaton Fuller. I would think with the 10 speed there would be less of an RPM drop between gears and even more so with 13 and 18 speed trucks. I don’t notice trucks with the correct gearing having any higher top end. The 10 speed trucks I saw, at 1500 RPM, it’s doing 70 MPH and is governed to 74 miles per hour.
That was really an in depth teaching video and I'm sure it really helped a lot of people know how to shift properly.
Good video footage thanks you're one of the best instructors I've had a chance to view in action clutch clutch > gas
brotha, you help me out so much in these videos. After I watched them I was working on my muscle memory you were talking about and it help me a lot. My main problem was, when is the proper time to shift? Just to make a long story short, you made it so I'm not as afaird to go to schooling. So thanks man
Best Video ever on shifting. Thank you..
Thank you! The best demonstration video on You Tube
Hey Yourboye: Thanks for the lessons. First day driving harvest truck for starters. Wish me luck. I'll ask if I have any questions. Again thanks. Mike A.
Awesome...Thanks bro...great demonstration...love it...Thanks again...God Bless u with health, wealth & everything
thanx bro for all the videos u made it helps me out alot...i am goin to swift trucking school next week n start this new career, again thanx bro
Thanks Yourboye I was trained on a Freightliner 9 speed and paid five thousand dollars for training. And they didn't clarify on what your explaining or breaking down. So that I knew exactly what to do when I got into trouble they really didn't explain on how to get out. Do you have any advice on bump and run? Like when coming to a light that turns green before you stop. What gear would you grab to keep rolling? I have been scouring the internet for advice and finally I found it thank you.
you help me to understand how to do shifting thank you very much because i was having a problem.
Excellent series!!! Thank you very much for sharing!
Awesome videos E!!!!! As always, excellent information. God bless
Thanks bro your a g!! You teach it easy and clean 👍🏼way better than any instructor ive had
Good job! I like the effort you put in to the videos. Thanks
Thanks a lot bro I pass my test yesterday 09/08/2020 your video helped me a lot Thanks again.
Thanks for your time to making those videos, Que Dios te Bendiga y Suerte !!!
Man you are awesome.....The best vid on TH-cam...Good Job
Thanks for the videos. They are well done. Have you heard of "Double downs" when having to shift in a hurry when someone cuts in front of you or you have to stop fast. I'm thinking of getting back to driving. Been watching all the videos I can find. I had a bad trainer working for Werner. He would sleep while I drove and we came up on scary situations. So left. I want the auto shift , but know that won"t always be available.Thank you.
You are helping me so much, man. Thank you.
Immaculate job demonstrating double clutch thank you very much
Hey brother, thanks for teaching double clutching. Im learning to drive a commercial vehicle at work right now so this helps. My trainer likes to tease me about how I can drive the truck and upshift damn near perfect, he just wishes he could turn me around backwards in my seat so I can downshift perfect too lol. Im learning on a 6 speed right now, and somehow I keep getting caught up in my downshift and missing 4th gear. Any advice on how to overcome this and remember where those middle gears are at? Hope to see you out on the road someday!
You definitely understand and know how to explain things easily ,,,
Glad to see you back
Awesome video!! Thank you!Question: At 5:25 are you coasting in neutral as you demo downshifting in this variation?
I watched your videos a couple of times i think i got it up shifting and the downshifting part and the double clutching i just need to get my permit and get behind that wheel to start practicing
Thnaks for a great vid. Very informative. Old Chinese provarb, In the doing is the learning. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it as well as you have.
the best video hands down 💯💯💯
Very good video, this is a very good explanation. Please show us more of these videos.
Great video for the beginner.
Can you please do a video on how to steer a truck properly. The technics needed. Or the difference between steering a car and a truck.
Awesome information about shifting!
your a great trainer i wish i had a full day with you or two training me on my shifting..
Method I used is... Clutch -Shift out of gear than count 1-2 than Clutch-shift into gear. 5th gear, splitter up right away. Down shifting is like you said... Clutch shift, very quick rev to the floor (unless you are going down hill.slope), Clutch into lower gear and top rpm. If you hear it grinding & the sound is decreasing, your gears are starting to line up as rpm drops. If grind sound is the constant, than your rpm's are to low & may need to bump the accelerator or stop and start over :).
Very nice what state
Thank you. This was very helpful for me.
Heck of a good teacher....thanks
Great videos dude! Very informative! Thanks!!
Is it ok to Rev when upshifting using double cluthing
