Thank you! Fixing this on my treadmill was my first home repair and I'm thrilled I didn't electrocute myself (or pay someone else to fix it) thanks to this video!! 💪
I mean they tell you how to do it and it’s literally just sticking it in there and tightening down a screw, but I guess it’s not fair to assume competence on the internet
@@opeboi1539it’s definitely not fair to assume especially with electricity where people are new of watching a video and probably a little scared. I’ve done plenty small electrical fixes and it is a pretty simple thing
Thank you ever so much. Couldn't remember which was the ground. You give very very good instructions. You spoke of stuff I take for granted and wouldn't think to advise someone that had never replaced a plug. Well done kind Sir. 👏
Thanks Dan for a Great and Concise Video. I too am replacing a Cord and Plug-in for a 16 inch Old Delta Drill press I'm restoring, and have changed these plugs many times, but, but, but, this time when I took the plug-in like you are showing, and looked at where the wires attach, the Green wire was no problem, then I looked at where the Black and White wire went, and then the DUH factor kicked in, there was No Brass Screw to designate where the Hot (Black) wire went, as both screws were silver. So I found your Video, and marked on the back of the Plug with a Black sharpie as to where the Black wire went. You Save me. I guess in Life we get to used to Mfgs tell us where everything goes. Thanks Again.
Dan, I might add, when I do my wires ready to secure them in the plug, I twist the wires good and tight, then I solder the ends before in insert them and tighten. I don't know why I do this, but always have, believing it makes better contact and the wires don't separate or become frayed. Just a Habit I guess.
Thank you for such an amazing video, you explain so mice and clear that anyone with 0 experience can easily learn because you are so good to explain, thank you so much
Thank you for sharing this, I was having a problem with a used extension cord I had bought, anyway, the guy had reversed the polarity on the female end. I just used this as a refresher for silver black. I had it right, but it is always great to have a second opinion. I redid both ends and trimmed / stripped the wires a little more neatly and put it all back together and I have a safe outdoor extension cord again.
Thanks a bunch that was very helpful. I didn’t know anything about the different colored screws. I came on to see which wire went. Where are you? Answered my question. Thank you so much for your help. Good video.
Only thing I'm left unsure about is how the wire should be placed or better yet, "crushed" in between the screw and the piece of metal? Am I to just stick it straight in and tighten? Or somehow or another manage to curl it around the srcew as you would with an outlet?
Thank you so much for this video, I am not electrical savvy. My wife pulled the plug out of the outlet for the washing machine and wah-lah a prone didn't want to come out with it. She just says "oops", I say "oh great". But thanks to you it's all fixed and good now..☺️
My refrigerator cord has 2 black wires and 1 green wire. The new 3 pronge plus has. Sliver gold green screw. Which one of the black wire is. Gold and which black wire is sliver.
I tried this with a single pole dimmer switch from Amazon. When I turn the dial to energize the wire it gets to a certain point and disintegrates the wire in as split second. Maybe I bought the wrong switch. Not sure why it doesn’t slowly ramp up the power.
My old extension cord only has 2 black and green wire...does it matter for some devices if the hot and neutral wires are reversed? IN this case, an old fish tank light.
not really. I bought a cheap orange plug, and it looks a lot like an orange extension cord, but its not real heavy duty nor water resistant (the blades can actually be pushed in and out of the plug face) I used some caulk inside to seal the plug .
This cheap replacement plugs don't allow the copper wire to be inserted as a 'U'. They also leave a visible gap which can easily let any liquid in. Apply dialectric grease in between
You’re dumb as hell if you think that’s a good solution. Things are grounded for a reason. If what you’re using has a metal body, the ground wire is there to prevent the body from becoming live so you don’t shock yourself just by touching it. Without the ground wire you also run the risk of potentially plugging something up backwards and damaging sensitive components. Replacement plugs are cheaper than replacing wherever they’re attached to.
You saved my treadmill that my dad gave me. He passed in 2010 so it’s extra special to me.. thank you!!!
Hope that you are getting some steps in thinking of your pops
After watching this very nice, clearly explained video, I don't need to watch anything else to repair an extension cord. Thank you!
Thank you for being patient while showing how to make the repair.
Very very helpful.
I have watchedalot of videos. Still looking for a replacement Three prong plug to go on a fan that has a fuse in plug end

The only part I needed to see, you did off camera :(

😭😭😭 me too
@@opeboi1539Mines didn't come with directions. It also doesn't help that I was trying to connect it like a hook.
@@opeboi1539why does the screw keep loosening? Too much vaults or what?

thanks , really needed to know the colour wire to what screw .
What if there’s a 4th wire instead just 3? ( Black. White. Green. And a thin silver wire that’s already stripped?)
Thanks man. Compressor fixed.
Unfortunately my cord only has a green covering and 2 without. How do I know which goes where!
I have a green and two black. I presume green is ground yes?

THANK YOU FOR HELP
I have a green, yellow, and black cable. is yellow neutral in this case?
Is fusion free for those who live in the uk, I don’t seem to be able to find it for free pal

Thanks!! Simple instruction, easy to follow, good visuals - really appreciate your help!
all my screws are silver? how do i know which ones neutral and hot?
I needed to see the insertion and clamping of the wires as that is what is giving me difficulty.
Hey! I want to make multiple out of one Cord With serious-circuit lights-attached cord(1)/(male-female ends), is it possible?
Anyone have a link to the new plug?
How about sir when colors of wire are
Black white red
Great step by step. Thank you
Nice vid. Thank you.
Lol, make sure to put the housing on the cord before wiring anything......I'm so dumb sometimes, 😕
I would've done same. thanks for heads up
Are there any extension cord ends that actually look good after they’re on your cord, like the factory ones?
not really. I bought a cheap orange plug, and it looks a lot like an orange extension cord, but its not real heavy duty nor water resistant (the blades can actually be pushed in and out of the plug face) I used some caulk inside to seal the plug .

Great thx!
What is the name of the plug that you are using to fix your cord and what is it called so I can buy it myself off of Amazon to fix my plug
Lets assume you bought the male end at Lowes and the screws are all silver, no brass. Answer that.
Hey man thank you soo much youre tutorial just helped me replace the male connector on my Mini Fridge!! LIKE SUB AND COMMENT !!
Thanks for showing the little clamping bracket inside on each post. That's not in every replacement plug, so it's not in every video.
🙌🙌
Too much words this guy
6 min video???
YOU COULD STILL USE THE MALE PLUG AS A TWO PRONG PLUG WITHOUT HAVING TO REPLACE IT.
Of course you can but is that really something you should do?

F**k it
... I just end up breaking that one anyhow to fit in some 2 prong cord
