I'm also an electrician. I tried to get my son into it, but he threw a fit and said he hates electricity. Naturally I was shocked; he got pretty charged, so I grounded him until he could conduct himself properly. Sometimes it hertz to see your kid not want to follow in your footsteps. But I think he's coming around. Not putting up as much resistance these days.

This is some good knowledge that ALL tradesman need. In larger commercial job sites it can be easy for accidents to happen. I turned in extension cords one day after installing sheet metal panels. One came in without the ground, and the other had a section caught on a closed door.
We had another situation where someone managed to simply cut our extension cord by mistake. I approached two nice electricians who replaced the plug end for us. I find a lot of fulfillment in being a tradesman because in every project, everyone wins when everyone cooperates.

Thanks, had to put a plug on a wire coming out of a spot lamp i hadn't seen in about 20 years. Since that was probably the last time I had been up in my attic. I would often wonder what the heck I did with it, it always came in handy doing odd jobs around the house and getting under the cars. Didn't want to ruin an extension cord so I grabbed one of these this morning at the hardware store. Wanted to be sure I was wiring it correctly. Thanks again.

I was blowing snow and chopped through a 50 ft. 14 gauge extension cord we use to keep the bird bath water from freezing. This is a great video on how ot get it right - I never thought of using a multi-meter to test for continuity. A 50 ft. cord is now an 11ft ft cord and a 39 ft cord. I also need to find a better solution than runnig the cord across our sidewalk. Thanks!
