The human nervous system is capable of anything. Stunning
One of Allan's greatest solos. He probably played it straight off the bat 'in the moment', in the studio. Seen him live on quite a few occasions and was completely stunned by his brilliance. Interesting to see his music recreated so well.
Too long ago I watched this. And even this time, I’m on my kneeeeez ... *Jeez on a big, bad Harley!*
I hav hope for keeping Allan’s music alive when I see stuff like this. And for the record: there are no other ways to play Allan’s music but to study that music very hard for many years - chords, solo-technique, sound. Everything!
Thanks man!
Wow Brett, way to go man! Nailed it!!!
+Derryl Gabel Thanks brother!
+Derryl Gabel,

So killing bro!!!!’
Damn good.
Thanks man!
To take on Holdsworth solos at all is kind of impressive in itself. To nail the phrasing and tone perfectly is almost superhuman; you did both! Mucho gusto!
Thanks man! Appreciate it!
Amazing Brett, please make a record, i buy it day 1
1.40 best part sounds like EVH that bluesy riff. So accurate.
Wow, you guys are in a different league............You and Derryl are amazing.......I do have something in common with you though.......I have a Carvin HH2 too.....
Thanks man!
Awesome! Your technique is insane! It would be cool if you did a playthrough/cover of "Psycho from Texas" or "Next" or something like that.
+Thor Sejersen Riis Thanks man. I'm pretty sure there is a video of my brother playing "Psycho from Texas" somewhere on TH-cam.
Wassup Bret man I want to tell u that u and haji’s kitchen did a great job on you guys self titled album back in 1995 and I just want to ask when u guys did symptoms for the part where it goes I see the face of fears staring back at me how did u play that and if u want can u do a vid on how to do that cuz it’s just it sound so awsome and legendary man and great job man 🤘🔥
Wow just amazing!! How do you get that tone? Your playing is out of this world!!
Thanks man! Just messed with the EQ until it sound right to me. Ha! That's pretty much it.
Wow. Amazing job. I use Transcribe! software (like you). That was a great job. Thanks for the video.
Thanks appreciate it!
That is amazing! What Guitar is that?
+Tim Scott (Guitar Mashing) Thanks! The guitar is a Carvin HH2x.
Super playing and sound too. Do you have a transcription for this ? Thanks.
Thanks Thomas! There's no transcription at the moment, maybe down the road if I can find the time.
How did you go about learning this song?
Bar by bar and very slowly?
Yes... one note at a time, one bar at a time, one phrase at a time... slowly.
before starting the guitar van halen was my god , solo so beautyfull ! and eddie talk often about ALLAN HOLDWORTH , one decennie after i decided to listen , a new world ...with notes coming of nowhere ! extra terrestre ...allan has invented a new music , not jazz , he said him self , he plays no standard of jazz , he has create his owner music ! not really commercial , vhalen wanted to help more audiance , but his style is not too familiar , popular .
How’d you get this tone?
dear brett stine.... i was recommended by derryl gabel on this tune... i didnt even know its an allan holdsworth song.... however was wondering if there is transcription available for purchase note by note on this particular song by holdsworth..?
Chuajs Js Yes I have a transcription of it. I'm in the process of trying to finish up about three or four more and will make them available asap.
Anyway how to get you besides here?
Chuajs Js Can follow me on Instagram or Facebook links in the description.
Amazing playing Bret! How do you manage to keep your left hand so relaxed, mines more tense than that when I'm asleep.
Thanks man. I always try and stay relaxed when I'm playing. If something is causing me to be tense in my mind that is my body's way of telling me I need to slow it down and keep practicing it until it's not an issue.
Brilliant! Respectfully, how long did that take to work up? (Man, having that extra finger length REALLY helps!!!!).
It definitely took a while. The most time consuming part was trying to figure out the fingerings. I tried to learn as much about his fingerings as possible by transcribing live footage, they might not be a 100% but I think they are pretty close.
Very cool. Did you have the transcribe software to slow it down?
Yes. I used the Transcribe software.
Oh man amazing, is there a way to get the guitar pro tab??
Thanks man, sorry for the delayed response. You can go download the tab at brettstinemusic.com
You may be a " Jazz-Head " IF...
As everyone knows, Allan uploaded many videos where he played along to Coltrane recordings ,,, NOT!
Unfortunately dude originality is the only thing that counts.
Yep. I agree and this isn't all I do. When I play like myself I sound nothing like Allan nor do I want to. This is something I did to challenge myself and I thought other people might enjoy seeing the solo being played... I know did. But thanks for chiming in and being a dick even though you know nothing about me as a musician or a person and know nothing about what I've done in the past of what I'm trying to do currently, all of which have nothing to do with or sound anything like Allan. Yep you got me all figured out based on this one video man. Kudos.
pleximanic maybe you've heard of None too soon??? It is such a sad and jealous comment on your side. You'd might like to check Brett's work besides this amazing rendition and note for note transcription of AH's beautiful composition, before bashing on this video. Hope you upload a video of your playing soon!
Have you ever heard of the field of Musicology? Musicologists have a separate field of study altogether called "Performance Practice." They spend literally YEARS researching pieces of music and exactly how they were played on period instruments. Its their passion. This is one of the absolute best musicological performance practice archives of a piece by Allan Holdsworth that there is. It has NOTHING to do with "being original." It has to do with historical musicology and performing it EXACTLY as it was originally written, with al the exact same articulations, timing and even fingerings. Performance practice is an art all unto itself and is a huge field of study. People across the world obtain PhD. degrees from music conservatories in Musicology specializing in performance practice. This field of study extends itself on all levels of music - even fusion jazz. Holdsworth is such an important musician that he very well needs to be documented and to do this version in such an accurate and perfect manner deserves accolades and respect from all Holdsworth enthusiasts worldwide.
KINDNESS is the only thing that counts. How you live your life and how you treat others are the only things that will last. Everything YOU do and everything BRETT does will burn up in the sun one day, so why be hateful, spiteful, jealous, and petty at someone else's expense, for what? So you could "feel" briefly superior? Brett has both excellence in his craft AND is one of the kindest, most generous people on the planet. You lose every time you lash out at someone else for achieving something that challenges their own path and evolution. Newsflash: being a troll on TH-cam is likely the LEAST original thing in modern history, so congratulations.
Indeed, Leo and Brett. Hey, Pleximaniac - get real! Think! And behave! To study others technique and "playing along" happens all the time since … ever since. (Some makes videos out of it, some does not. Either way, it is ’cool’ and should not(!) be racked down with arrogance!)
For example, all the violin-players studying Paganini’s bow-technique since the 1820s. And Brett are showing what he can - just because he CAN, and to inspire others. And he does inspire others … I know for a fact(!) that Brett ARE inspiring maaany guitar-players - including me. (And I think I inspires others too in my work.) Who do YOU inspire, pleximaniac? And will you respond back with a video of your playing?
