    The Wisdom Tree hike, one of the most popular in Los Angeles, offers a lot of bang for your hiking buck, right in the middle of Hollywood. The Wisdom Tree, the only tree to survive the 2007 Barham fire and a source of inspiration thousands, sits atop Burbank Peak, the highest peak at the end of Griffith Park. From the top you’ll be able to soak in not only the good vibes of the Wisdom Tree but also sweeping views of LA and the mountains surrounding it. The hike is short but steep and is doable by most everyone.
    I also have a few Wisdom Tree hike extensions in this guide that are worth your time.
    - You can also continue to Cahuenga Peak, the highest in Griffith Park, and then on to the Hollywood Sign. This adds another 1.4 miles to the hike for a total of 3.2 miles (about 2 hours total time).
    - If you visit the Hollywood sign, you can come back on a loop trail to one of the least visited areas of Griffith Park, which offers sweeping views of the San Fernando Valley (also known as “the Valley”). If you add the Hollywood Sign and this loop on the hike is 4.2 miles (2-3 hours total hike time).

    Beautiful hike and excellent guide--thank you! My son and I did this hike April 7 2023. Small update: there is now a serious fence/gate at the top of Wonder View Drive. We got there at about 7:30 am and it was locked. We were able to shimmy under it just to the right and the hike. The gate was unlocked on our way out.

      Thank you. Yes I saw a photo of that serious fence/gate (requiring a gate code on a numeric keypad for entrance) on Google Maps a minute ago. I trust it's unlocked and open from sunup to sundown because I'd like to take this hike soon.

    Awesome video. Thank you for the thorough guide. I loved it. I don’t feel comfortable going on a hike sort of knowing where to go.

    That place is beautiful. I hope to hike Griffith park one day. I'm from Italy, I already been to NY. Next time in the U.S. will be west coast! ;)
    Great video.

      @@Hikingguy My plan is to go to San Francisco for a few days, then coming down and stopping by Yosemite and Sequoia parks. And then going south to see L.A. then Palm Pprings and Salvation Mountain. Tht's my Golden State plan. if you have something to suggest that i can visit during this route would be great!

      @@davidbelfort9161 That plan sounds great. If you're hitting Palm Springs make time for Joshua Tree (right next to it) and try the Tram to San Jacinto and hike the peak - hikingguy.com/hiking-trails/best-la-hikes/palm-springs-aerial-tramway-hike-to-mt-san-jacinto/

    Nice video and good information for the next time I do wisdom tree. I’ve only gone to the tree and back. But I always wondered who takes care of the flag? Last time I went it up there wasn’t up

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you & that's a good question about the flag. I'm not sure who looks after it but I'll give Griffith Park a ring and see if they have any info.

    Have you done the Tree of Life trail? That looks like a tough hike.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Wisdom Tree is also known as the Tree of Life but I could be wrong

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hikingguy No there is another trail at 1:56, if you go left. It's not marked except do not enter. Previous hikers have called it the "powerline trail", because it follows some power line towers. However, on google map it shows you a trail called, tree of life(not to be confused with the wisdom tree). Also, on google map somebody submitted about 40 photographs, if you click on valley overlook. I'm glad I looked at those pictures, because it helped me figure out the trail. Seeing some foot prints also helped me. I would say this is the toughest hike in the whole 4,200 acres of the park. It's about 1,000 ft climb up rocky gully's and a few ridge trails. This trail joins the upper ridge trail(wonder view trail = getty trail) between the wisdom tree and cahuenga peak. It took me about 2 hrs plus round trip.

      @@trexinvert Check out this video after the Hollywood Sign, I take that trail back via Valley Overlook, think we're talking about the same place - didn't realize it was called Tree of Life - do you know if there's another tree too? Don't remember seeing anythiing.

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hikingguy That's it. Absolutely. You mention that on the way at 4:53, as the "loop trail". How the heck did you know that was the fork? Good eye or gps. There is no sign, and right now the shrubs are overgrown. All you see are very steep rocky gullys. I have created a little rock pyramid as a marker. On your way back from the hollywood sign, I see you make that detour 7:47 and continue till 9:00 where you meet the "power line trail = tree of life trail = loop trail". I noticed not much video footage in between. I suspect your hands were quite busy descending the rock falls. Btw, I didn't see any noteworthy tree that would qualify for "tree of life", but encountered a lot of brush with inch long thorns.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trexinvert Ahh, yea, I thought we were talking about the same thing. And yea, most of the time I was busy sliding down the slope! The trekking pole came in handy...

  • @trexinvert

    See any rattlesnakes on that trail? I remember there was a table with a clipboard for snake sightings on Wonderview drive.. I think it's more "fun" to get there from Mt. Lee Drive.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I occasionally see rattlesnakes in Griffith but nothing crazy. Haven't seen that clipboard lately though.

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the "crowd" keeps the snakes away. However, that's the new "danger". Social distance wise that is. The trail from Lake Hollywood Reservoir is very narrow 1 ft wide in some places.

    I love the Wisdom Tree hike. So glad someone finally got rid of the U.S. flag. It's gone !
    it was a bit much and slightly inappropriate to arrogantly place such excessive patriotic adornment.
    I am 100% American.
    Given the current state of things, it is no doubt this country needs a lot of self-help before random patriotic pride should be shoved in our faces.
