Thanks Tricia; you are such fun when doing this. Good on you and lucky us that we see the real you - warm and witty. I bought the thinning scissors and plan to “feel the fear and do it anyway” on my pixie cut tonight. It becomes horribly floppy with only half an inch growth, and as this happens my thinning hair is there for all to see (gasp!). I’ve trimmed my own for years and found no answer to point cutting until you inspired me. Here we go...back and all, but this time with the thinners.

The thinning scissors did a great job! Your hair is lovely.

As an ex-hairdresser - I was a little worried to see you with thinning shears, as these can do some major damage if not used correctly.! You did well, and only did a very conservative trim! You are lucky that your hair is a bob, as it doesn't need quite as much of a trim as a very short pixie,(like mine) and has a definite shape to follow. Fortunately, my hair is very curly, so I can just let it air dry and do it's own thing - this works really well for hiding my roots!

I am not good at cutting hair, I only do S&D on my split ends between trims. My method is to take a seat, get caped, my long hair combed out with a wide tooth comb, he center parts, sections and pins up my hair with hair clips. My husband does it for me every couple months, and he trims it dry, taking off about an inch With his sharp hair shears to remove split/damaged ends. He trims the lowest layer, and then he lets my hair down in 1/2” increments to trim each layer to match the guide below. He has me turn my head to each side so he can match the sides to the length of the back, so my hair is not longer in the front. The process takes him about twenty minutes. When he finishes, he sweeps up the clippings and shakes the cape out off the deck. It is very convenient, I don’t have to get dressed, make an appointment and waste half the day. I can be wearing shorts and a T-shirt, as well as saving hundreds of dollars a year with excellent results. Hubby gives my two teenage boys their haircuts every three weeks using a combination of the clippers with different attachments. That saves me hundreds of dollars a year more. He cuts his own in the bathroom using a combination of the clippers and shears over the comb to cut his own hair. Then he hops in the shower to wash off the clippings. He also has given haircuts to my mom and a couple friends of mine. So I would say that given the current situation with the barbershops and salons closed, I have it pretty good. When my boys go back to school, they will have neatly groomed haircuts versus looking scruffy or having a wonky haircut. I have seen pictures friends have posted of the less than acceptable haircuts they have given their husbands and boys. Being that I have diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma, I am not comfortable having any friends come by to have hubby cut their hair. So a couple friends and my mom will have to hold off a while longer.

You are a brave lady. I wouldn’t dare cut mine. I think I shall just have to come out of this, looking like a cave woman. Really enjoyed, like every day. Watching a day late! X

How brave you are! I was only just thinking I wish I’d had my haircut before lockdown. It’s finding the right (sharp) scissors that’s tricky. But I will definitely give it a go. It feels a bit like a war-time video - born of sheer necessity. You can show us how to skin a rabbit for a lovely soup next!

You did great, and thank you for all the advice. I'm still planning on letting my husband cut mine in a couple of weeks, "I think". I'll be watching his every move. I will let you know how it turns out.

You are a brave woman! Well researched and carefully done! I started to reread my Living the Life More Fabulous again last night and it's keeping me going. Perhaps you will do something on colours one day; my Guilford LFF pop up make over suggested warm tones. Agree your hair is better as it is! Thank you

I did my pixie refresh with clippers, I had also purchased a lovely set of scissors. My hair turned out pretty okay, but it wasn’t my jumper/top that was the hair trap...it was MY BRA! It was full, it took sellotape, then a good wash to remove it all. 😉

Great and worth having a go yourself. I have long hair and started to cut my own a few years back following You Tube tutorials, of which there are many. Proper hairdressing scissors are a must though. My fringe hasn't been trimmed by anybody at all for over 50 years, after a hairdresser got scissor happy and took almost all of it off , leaving me looking hideous and traumatised.

How brave are you, especially to take the scissors to your hair looking into your computer screen. You did a really nice job. You must have an amazing hairstylist anyway as your cut is so good. I use an electric razor on my husband and he did offer to do mine! Maybe not!

How much styling product was in your hair, what kind and did you blow dry first? Your sections immediately sprang into shape, well curled forward.

Blow dried it using Tekni Art Thermo Modelling spray which is great because it adds body but isn't sticky. I have an excellent hairdresser who cuts my very straight and challenging hair beautifully - can't wait to get back to her! Tx
