    Mr. Rowe, I am a 45 year old man. I used to listen to a radio broadcast with my father when I was young. I’m sure you know it. Your storytelling reminds me of that great man. You are truly the modern day Paul Harvey. Thank you for your integrity and dedication to truth, honesty, and conversation in today’s America.

    Loved the storytelling - reminds me of Paul Harvey - we need to hear more stories that require viewers to learn to listen better. When I was a teacher, I would tell impromtu stories that were related to the lesson; that was the favorite part of my students' day. Young people need storytelling more than silly instagram selfies.

    Dan Carlin one of the rarest entertainers I've ever discovered. I assumed there HAD to be a catch with Hardcore History being so entertaining. There's not though. I'm proud to say I've bought his entire catalog and the man never makes a bad episode. He really is a treasure. He's changed my life. I'm a history nerd directly because of this man.
    If you haven't checked out his podcast for any reason do yourself a favor and just pick one at random. They're all good.

      He's the cream of the crop. You have to be pretty damn special to have your ENTIRE podcast put on the National Archives. He's quite literally the only one who can say that.
      I got into Dan recently because I stumbled upon Supernova in the East. My God. The way he tells that story will haunt me forever. I'm currently listening to the WW1 podcast. He had me at Gavrilo Princip, my favorite historical figure.
      The man is the absolute authority on history to millennials.

    I fought in Operation Desert Storm with the First Infantry Division artillery. I pulled the trigger sending 24,000 lbs of ordinance at Iraq in a WW1 tactic and then drove through the battlefield I affected. I can tell you that the effects long term can't be put into words! "War will f*ck you up! If it didn't, you were f*cked up before you went!" IT EATS AT YOUR SOUL! I seen the Iraq burm breach, bulldozer assault, battle of 73 Easting and the highway of death. I fully know of the subject you were talking about! This is a great video!

    • @doriewheeler8040
      @doriewheeler8040 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Hey, big red one artillery. Yes, war is hell is an understatement to say the least. It is enough to have to deal with the mind games of the brass, but to have to deal with man's inhumanity to man is devastating. I was a medic
      (H. H. C. 1ST I.D). I am mystified by people not familiar with even a small part of the history of the big red one. I hope you have people you can talk to about the trauma of everything you have experienced, but I know not everyone can relate.
      You deserve all of the support and appreciation America can give to you for your service. THANK YOU.

      @doriewheeler8040 Thank you my Brother! I recall going to the counselor after the war asking how to deal with the stress and they put me in an anger management class that at the time I thought was a joke! I still do I guess. I find it strange that Civilians would want to go and see a battlefield because of their fascination of a battlefield because ALL I remember is wanting to go home! Except one day in the battle for Safwan when we knew that action would end this war forever, or to follow orders and face someone else coming back for a 20 year war later in history. That guilt rides on my conscience just as hard! Thanks for your reply and always, "Duty First!"

    46:30 That's not what that quote means. In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar he describes what is meant by that:
    "Let me have men about me that are fat;
    Sleek-headed men and such as sleep o' nights:
    Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look;
    He thinks too much: such men are dangerous."
    His toga is loose fitting cause he's hungry, hungry men are dangerous. Fat satiated men are content and therefore not dangerous.

    @53 min - short term solutions
    I recall my father talking about the New Deal, specifically the CCC because he had a job in the CCC. I was a teen at the time he talked about it. His take was the help was needed -at the time - but it started so much that wasn't good. He saw it as the root of many evils. I tucked away what he'd said, mulled it over time, and concluded that he was absolutely correct. Short term solutions may be good for the moment but do become long term disasters. I'm glad I decided to take the time to listen to this entire podcast.

    • @ScottCreley
      @ScottCreley หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Incorrect. There are no long term evils from the CCC. Very big of your father to benefit from the system and then want to pull the ladder up after him. It wasn't just an antidote to the depression, it was something that should have existed the entire time.

    Adam Curry, the PODFATHER, is the name you were searching for Carlin. He and John C. Dvorak have a hilarious podcast called No Agenda, where they dissect and punch holes in news media. They use that "Hit them in the mouth" clip every episode.

      At this point, No Agenda is kind of trash. I tune back in every now and then hoping that they are no longer biased, but every time I find they still only go after stories from the left and more often than not come off as insufferable contrarian Trump apologists. They are most definitely not without an agenda, even if that is just to grift off of other contrarian types.

      Would agree with you on this. Been listening to him for about the same time, can listen to his stuff over and over and recommend him to anyone remotely interested in history. I wonder down the road, if he will assess his views now and come to a different conclusion on things. If Trump was to win and things ended different than some think it would. Dan is a guy that seems to look deep into things and I would think he would do the same in the future. At least it’s a possibility.

    • @menwithven8114
      @menwithven8114 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @Brian-dd7rn i would like to believe he could change his mind but I don't think he will for one reason. The fact he is a historian that has spent 10s of thousands of hours reading and researching history, culture, past governments etc makes it hard to change his mind. I think when you've done that amount of research on history and politics and come to a conclusion particularly about a government leader you feel your opinion is extremely informed and well thought out to an extent you just can't go back on it.
      I actually agree with that line of thinking because Dan does know sooooo much about past leaders and outcomes that he is especially equipped at seeing and understanding who as a current day leader could turn bad. I just think he's wrong about this one

      The fact that I was/am being propagandised never occurred to me until covid but more importantly the lockdowns.
      That led me to look back on my 66 years and think has this happened before to me?
      Now I realise I've been propagandised my whole life, and of course not just me but all of us!
      Its a pretty depressing thought.
      My 70 year old friend suggests that what we should both do is scrape the best of our last few years out of the husk and I agree.
      Having said all that, I spend a huge amount of time pointing out the propaganda wherever I can and I see others doing the same.
      Perhaps the next generations will see what's being done to them much earlier and as such can show the dictators up for what they really are which is always their downfall!
      👍🌅

    A great leader is a great persuader. And that persuasion comes from a combination of an enthralling voice, an ability to speak extempore and a truthful resonance in what you say.
    And a great leader may not be able to predict what is going to happen, but they will feel the pulse of what is the mood of the moment and act instinctively on that feelings.

    • @fluffydeath9252
      @fluffydeath9252 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because by the notion of voting for her she becomes elected? Every Elected official was never elected before their first term in any office they have held. Additionally. Kamala was elected to her positions of District Attorney in California and her position in the Senate.

      He knows more than you. Look at the big picture. What Kamala did was 100% legal. She’s the incumbent. If it wasn’t legal, Biden would resign as president and we’d still be in the same situation. Your cognitive dissonance has you blinded.

      Kamala was elected in California and to the Vice Presidency. And we had a chance to vote for her. The parties are not the country, they can nominate who they want.

    • @fluffydeath9252
      @fluffydeath9252 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Additionaly The President and Vice President are on the same ticket. and people vote for and therefore elect for both. People felt that Kamala Harris' presence as VP on Biden's ticket was reason enough not to vote for that ticket.
      If we ever have elections again, and we have a day where someone completely reprehensible becomes the VP nominee, I would hope people would find that as cause to not vote for that ticket. I mean if Charles Manson was a VP candidate would people still vote for them?
