Been a fan of Carlin for about 10 years and have bought everything he has ever put out. One of the greatest modern historians on Earth at creating very deep but digestible material about a lot of history. Unfortunately I can't stand his what I would consider borderline TDS but like most people who I appreciate their work i can separate the man and his work. Although i must say thay Darryl from Martymade podcast is an extremely close second to me in this history podcast area and he usually does more recent history
Would agree with you on this. Been listening to him for about the same time, can listen to his stuff over and over and recommend him to anyone remotely interested in history. I wonder down the road, if he will assess his views now and come to a different conclusion on things. If Trump was to win and things ended different than some think it would. Dan is a guy that seems to look deep into things and I would think he would do the same in the future. At least it’s a possibility.
@Brian-dd7rn i would like to believe he could change his mind but I don't think he will for one reason. The fact he is a historian that has spent 10s of thousands of hours reading and researching history, culture, past governments etc makes it hard to change his mind. I think when you've done that amount of research on history and politics and come to a conclusion particularly about a government leader you feel your opinion is extremely informed and well thought out to an extent you just can't go back on it. I actually agree with that line of thinking because Dan does know sooooo much about past leaders and outcomes that he is especially equipped at seeing and understanding who as a current day leader could turn bad. I just think he's wrong about this one
What is TDS? it's rather annoying when people throw around unknown acronyms assuming everyone on planet earth instantly knows what they're referring to..
It is truly remarkable how gossip can turn into malicious propaganda, and fear becomes the primary (and highly successful) tool all dictators use to obtain, then maintain full control.
The fact that I was/am being propagandised never occurred to me until covid but more importantly the lockdowns. That led me to look back on my 66 years and think has this happened before to me? Now I realise I've been propagandised my whole life, and of course not just me but all of us! Its a pretty depressing thought. My 70 year old friend suggests that what we should both do is scrape the best of our last few years out of the husk and I agree. Having said all that, I spend a huge amount of time pointing out the propaganda wherever I can and I see others doing the same. Perhaps the next generations will see what's being done to them much earlier and as such can show the dictators up for what they really are which is always their downfall! 👍🌅

A great leader is a great persuader. And that persuasion comes from a combination of an enthralling voice, an ability to speak extempore and a truthful resonance in what you say. And a great leader may not be able to predict what is going to happen, but they will feel the pulse of what is the mood of the moment and act instinctively on that feelings.

Watching the real time death of the legacy media is a wonderful thing, but it’s scary to think of people getting all their information from You Tube or Tik Tok. Hopefully people are getting their interest piqued by digital media and then reading a book and doing more research. Sadly in most cases that’s probably not the case.
Dan Carlin has spent years demoinizing trump who had a fairly successful four years. The last four years have seen inflation, multiple proxy wars, increased internal division, all while dan carlin has no criticism for the establishment...
Demonizing is an extremely strong word to use for what Dan was saying about Trump. I would say he was more viewing it from the perspective of if you ask for radical change, be wary of what radical change might bring because chaos doesn't always equal better. Not trying to shit on Trump or anything but just gotta defend my boy Dan Carlin.
An honest assessment of Trump’s first term is that it was on par with Obama. That’s pretty mediocre. Here’s hoping his next term will be a material upgrade over the last one.

So tired of being labeled uneducated. My husband chose to start making money after high school. Started as an apprentice and ending up a plumbing contractor. I have to wonder if he took an “educated” person to a pile of dirt, handed them a blueprint & said plumb this house, would they be “educated“ enough to do so? Why is the majority of his customers “educated “ people calling for things such as a bathtub that won’t drain. He would flip the trip and amazingly the water drained! 😆 we have several highly college educated people in our family that have the common sense of an ant. Just to say, we’re all “educated “ in something.
Hey Mike since you've talked Julius Caesar I suggest doing a deep dive behind Cao Cao. As Xu Shao once said: Cao Cao, a capable minister in times of peace, a tyrant in times of Chaos. The fall of the Republic and the fall of the Eastern Han are pretty much mirror images of each other and they also coincidentally were in power around the same time
I still to this day don’t understand how someone like Dan would vote for Kamala, someone never elected. How is someone who favors history looking past this?
Because by the notion of voting for her she becomes elected? Every Elected official was never elected before their first term in any office they have held. Additionally. Kamala was elected to her positions of District Attorney in California and her position in the Senate.
He knows more than you. Look at the big picture. What Kamala did was 100% legal. She’s the incumbent. If it wasn’t legal, Biden would resign as president and we’d still be in the same situation. Your cognitive dissonance has you blinded.
Kamala was elected in California and to the Vice Presidency. And we had a chance to vote for her. The parties are not the country, they can nominate who they want.
Additionaly The President and Vice President are on the same ticket. and people vote for and therefore elect for both. People felt that Kamala Harris' presence as VP on Biden's ticket was reason enough not to vote for that ticket. If we ever have elections again, and we have a day where someone completely reprehensible becomes the VP nominee, I would hope people would find that as cause to not vote for that ticket. I mean if Charles Manson was a VP candidate would people still vote for them?
Considering their content, thank God more people will watch this than any cable media outlet.

Room 222! LOL😂 The references are cracking me up and making me feel old😮!😅🤣I'm so enjoying this!😊
McCarthy was factually and spiritually correct
Have a history major friend who will likely enjoy this podcast.
Thanks Gents!
YAYYYY! I missed the original format so much 😁
What a great conservation. I have never thought of history like that. Made me think of the saying, "It was a terrible place to fight a war." Was there ever a good place?
I am currently current with audio podcast and I replay half to share with my wife, I enjoy the podcast and the switching things up so you may think that your just finding your way but I want to tell you flipping things up and removing and adding is that which keeps me coming back ❤
I do find barbershop rather annoying, but I love YOU, Mike! You're certainly unique. Stay that way.
I really love the Barbershop Harmony on the Intro to this video.
And your standard video Outro.
Please continue to use such great music.
@thehairyfemale its really not worth explaining and it's also overused and annoying annyways. Just happens to be true in this case
@thehairyfemale trump derangement syndrome. It's how people who like Trump diagnose people who don't like Trump
Love that Jingle!
Love the jingle. Subscribed. ;)
Love the jingle, so true.😊
I was wondering if we'd hear from Dan before the election. Thanks Mike!!
I am surprised Mike's channel hasn't reached a million subscribers.
So nice ando so scarce to listen to intelligent and amiable conversations nowadays about interesting topics.A treat, like a good desert.
Hot damn! Id pay real dollars to hear a live barber shop quartet featuring Mike Rowe.
Oh liberal dan. Love his history podcast, dislike his politics.
He literally used to beg for a Trump like figure until he actually showed up.
Calling Dan Carlin Liberal is putting him undeservingly in a box. The mans politics are very much his own.
@@TDesil5000 no his politics are very much liberal
It is truly remarkable how gossip can turn into malicious propaganda, and fear becomes the primary (and highly successful) tool all dictators use to obtain, then maintain full control.
Yes, Kamala is very good at that.
@@mikushenko75 The propaganda has been a success. Putin is pleased.
👍🌅
@@Ln-cq8zu I am so relieved to hear others are on the same wavelength and that I'm not going crazy! The Alternate Reality insanity is strong and sucks them (the unknowing) in so quickly. Breaks my heart. And yes, we have been lied to all our lives, or more accurately, we've always lied to ourselves. The Arrogant American will suffocate in their own whiteness. (says a 73 yo white female raised in upper mid-class. I'm ashamed now!)
Yes we have been propagandized. From Captain Crunch to the Food Pyramid. From the Bay of Pigs to Gulf of Tonkin.
Adam Curry started podcasts
No. Adam Curry is the pod father and inventor of podcasting.
ITM
Thank you for your courage
Another fascinating story and in-depth breakdown. Thanks
Mike “working-guy” rowe kept dangling sad maga bait -
Dan danced around him like the higher-level “Pro” that he is. 💕
OMG. I can't wait to watch this. I found Dan Carlin about 2005.
It's called a cadence, the chanting when soldiers march, the point is to maintain rhythm while marching in formation.
That’s correct. 🇺🇸
Also focusing the mind on a rhythm helps a body withstand more punishment during those marches. Pain is a state of mind as much as a physical phenomenon.
As soon as Mike read "yacht on the Mediterranean" I knew it was Julius Caesar. Love this story. 😂😂
In my mind, Mike should be our next Labor Secretary or Education Secretary. I can’t think of a better advocate for what our countries needs for the working class. In either position, I can see him improving job and education opportunities for important, high-paying trade jobs for Americans.
What a wonderful conversation
Just wish Dan would make episodes more often.....
As others have said, Adam Curry, the “PodFather,” is the podcaster whose name you couldn’t recall:). “No Agenda,” the media deconstruction podcast he does with former PC Mag tech writer John Dvorak, just celebrated its 17th anniversary this week.
Thank you for your courage ITM.
Great conversation! Really made me think about our past.
Great conversation fellas thanks!
Philosophy meets history! The through line/parallel from Julius Caesar to Trump is 👏 amazing
Mike channeling the spirit of Paul Harvey. Endless remakes are tiring, but one worthwhile would be Mike's The Rest Of The Story.
What a great conversation!
You ARE a nice guy Mike! Thanks for the great story and interview. :)
I love the jingle! Mike.... Would you be willing to do an interview / discussion on independence/self-determination/secession/sovreignty....? I am the head of the Calexit movement. I think your very-down-to-earth stance in life can provide a great comparative outlook on the current state of the American Union.
Hey Mike I retired ... I am the guy from the plane in 96 97 w idea of doing every job show ..when we sat next to each other on the flight....reach out i tried before but life got in the way..J
As an aside to the PTSD discussion... the officer core of the British army ran a test on how long person can be in a sustained shelling was measured by keeping a company in the trenches until 100% casualties. By 88 days the last soldier was pulled out with shell shock.
I’ll never hear a drumroll the same again.
Thank you gentlemen Enjoyed this
Thank you for another great episode.
I know I probably hear your voice everywhere without knowing it already, but you should really start selling intro jingles to TH-camrs. Why? Solely because it would make me smile lol.
On another random note, ever think about doing a pod with @BlindSurfer (Pete Gustin)? Would love hearing y'all talk shop for an hour or two.
Dang! Mike can tell a story!
Dan Carlin and Dave Ramsey are the 2 north stars of how to think in my life and have been for 15+ years. God bless. (How to think not what to think 😉)
I was a music education major in the 1990s. About 50% of the education was how to justify your job with the aesthetics. The what is beauty and how to appreciate it. I left that for a similar occupation of the Army Band. Where only 10% of my job (optimistically) was related to music. If playing the same 10 marches 16 hours a day was "music".
Awesome discussion!
Love the Barbershop quartet. Very classy.
Awesome guest 👍
We The People & The People's Republic are just built different from those of past History those who came before or will History Rhyme Again
What a great discussion! I'm going to go get your mom's books. And also check out Dan Carlin's material as well.
I LOVE the series "the way I heard it" but haven't seen it air on tv for some time! Anyway, got two more people for you to do a story on! Louis Armstrong and Don Knotts (Barney Fife)!!!
One thing guys, the knowledge that expanded thru history. Because of what happened. Along with the Guttenburg press
Blackthorn, Magna Carta, that begat our founding Fathers. With that knowledge we got. Representative Republic. Us .. that's what I'm fighting for. Keep going this is WONDERFULLY INTRESTING. Bravo
Oh, so am I! Trump/Vance 2024. ❤️🇺🇸🙏
Really miss Dirty Jobs, that show was perfect.
Watching the real time death of the legacy media is a wonderful thing, but it’s scary to think of people getting all their information from You Tube or Tik Tok. Hopefully people are getting their interest piqued by digital media and then reading a book and doing more research. Sadly in most cases that’s probably not the case.
The assault on internet 1st Amendment rights is just beginning. The Ministry of Truth is on its way.
Love the shirt Chuck!
Great conversation. much to think about.
Dan Carlin has spent years demoinizing trump who had a fairly successful four years. The last four years have seen inflation, multiple proxy wars, increased internal division, all while dan carlin has no criticism for the establishment...
Last four years saw a recovery from the pandemic and a revival of the economy. And support for our NATO allies.
Now we’ll see what happens next.
I remember him critizising the establishment.
@@buykuibra2518 “shake things up”doesn’t mean “F everything up :)”
An honest assessment of Trump’s first term is that it was on par with Obama. That’s pretty mediocre. Here’s hoping his next term will be a material upgrade over the last one.
very interesting and informative. Love it.

The fall of the Republic and the fall of the Eastern Han are pretty much mirror images of each other and they also coincidentally were in power around the same time
I was literally just listening to stuff about Caesar. Then this drops.
@@fluffydeath9252 I think I agree with you in principle here even though it sounds like we have the opposite political opinion
