Polestar 2 Dual Motor is within 10% of Tesla Model Y Performance in Edmund's EV range tests. Which is very good as both motors were on during testing and it weighs much more than Tesla Y does.

The Polestar 2 is well built with good performance. The biggest issue, for me, is the interior. Space is at a premium, there is no 12 volt port in the front and the cupholders are definitely an afterthought. The updates are an absolute plus, but they need to rework that interior and adjust the price to be more competitive.

Dang, even more so than before I'm glad we leased our dual motor. Once it's up in 2025 I could see a long range single motor in our future. Also hoping for some changes to the center console/cup holder situation but no pictures of the inside yet.

I really liked the Polestar 2 when it first arrived, and loved the exterior design, but IMO, it was inferior to the Model 3 in several metrics(power/range, etc). Now that the changes are being made, the P2 has really become a more compelling and competitive option. This is now at the top of my list. I almost bought the ubiquitous Model 3--it's still the benchmark, but I like driving something not so popular, and under the radar. Looking forward to the test drive.

I've test driven other cars as well and this is favorite to drive so far. It's not perfect. i don't understand the 1 cupholder thing with the second cupholder in the arm rest but that's not a deal breaker.

You can get the 476hp power upgrade (software) for the 2022 and 2021 model years by paying for it. The 2023 model includes the extra power in the performance pack, which also of course includes the adjustable dampers, upgraded brakes, and unique wheels. I believe this is the same for 2024. So if your 2023 or 2024 doesn’t have the power upgrade, it also doesn’t have the upgraded hardware. You can get the software update but of course not the rest of the performance pack stuff later as an OTA software upgrade.

Lest see what the Polestar 3 is going to be like, but love the bigger battery on the single motor, although a single motor in the front does allow for better regen, especially in in the colder season I am on the fence with the RWD although torque steer is bothersome on the front motor.

@ 3:17 This is a minor beef but I wish sedan designers would get away from the high rear deck which is so common these days. It just me or do the PS2 tires stick out really far from the fenders, I imagine from its use of wider wheels/tires? If so, that can't be great for aero and water/dirt spraying on the side of the car, nor for rolling resistance. Wider stance / tires help with handling, but why not just widen the car another inch and add some interior space since it'll have the same aero impact? The PS2's original drag coefficient of .278 which hurts its highway efficiency / range, and it has a slightly larger front surface area than the model 3 (1" taller). Some of their dimensional choices are a bit odd. Versus the model 3, it's the same width, but slightly shorter in length and slightly taller than the model 3, yet manages to restrict rear head room. The shorter length is likely having a negative impact on drag coefficient and interior space.
Add in the questionable interior design with that really weird center console where the second cup holder is under the arm rest, how the front of the console intrudes on leg room, how the odd gear lever blocks some of the buttons. I really just don't get the design of this car. It does have a major benefit in the hatch, but had the car been longer, maybe the rear seat would have had more headroom, legroom, and wouldn't have needed the transmission tunnel hump. Yes, people rave about how well it drives, but some of these design choices are just ... terrible. To add, this vehicle is manufactured in China with low wage labor and high coal energy use, and imported into North America and Europe. People... that just ain't very good for the Western economies, nor for well paid / well treated Western automotive workers, nor for the environment. Why are people buying this car in Europe / North America... are ya'll trying to kill US/European automotive jobs and the environment?
On the plus side, at 'least' Polestar is being hit with a 27.5% tariff on imports to the US, and 10% for imports to Europe. That tariff is probably the ONLY reason Tesla isn't importing cars to North America from China, but they have started importing massive volumes of Chinese batteries...which are only getting hit with a 7.5% tariff. Yep, that's your 'most American' company for ya. Ayayaya.....
