I bought my 2023 C40 from Hertz Car Sales in Raleigh about six weeks ago. A few points are, (1) The rooftop spoiler bits are not an aero feature per se but the hatch hinges and their motors are mounted externally and needed to be hidden; (2) the frunk divider is due to federal legislation that any cargo spot that can fit a human must have inside escape releases so they made it so it cannot fit even the smallest human; (3) mine has adaptive cruise control and I think these are all Twin Ultimates which come with that feature; and (4) Volvo started shipping J3400 adapters to customers on November 18, but there are YT videos from a week earlier that showed Tesla superchargers working with third party adapters like A2Z.

@ I have a lower trim model Toyota that came with adaptive cruise control and I’m never going back. I’d like a head up display, cooled seats and parking sensors, but the adaptive is the only piece of technology that I wouldn’t do without. It’s not really a premium feature now so I’m surprised Volvo would make you pay extra for it. It makes cruise control 10 times more useful. I use it a lot more now. I really thought that if stingy Toyota put it in my car, it must be in all cars by now.

My wife has a ‘23 Ultimate. We have done many moderate road trips in it. From our home in Salt Lake City, we would go to Wyoming or Moab no problem. It’s great to drive, comfortable, good stereo, quick. A used one that has taken a depreciation hit is a great car.

Me too! 2023 C40 from Hertz (via Carvana) for $27,500 & 14,500 miles. I've driven 5000 miles. One issue: replaced external noise maker under warranted. Not the best EV, but a great car that fits my use case: 1) charge at home, 2) seldom drive more than 100 miles per day, 3) use wife's hybrid for road trips. Biggest surprise: one pedal driving is very natural. Biggest disappointment: it came with one key fob, and a second one cost $500: it must be made out of bitcoins. Physical controls for standard operations work well with the dated infotainment. I haven't had so much fun since my 68 Mustang 289 - rediscovered a love for driving. Burning rubber to save the planet :) I would do it again.

Bought a former Hertz Tesla Model 3 RWD via a Toyota Dealer (The Hertz registration was still in the arm rest) back in July. Its been a great car at a great price. It had low miles and no visible wear and tear. Just some evidence of the front end being resprayed. Its not like with an EV, you have to worry about the car being constantly redlined or driven hard cold.

I wonder if you can hack it to add the adaptive cruise control. It seems like you can do that on the Polestar 2.

Looking forward to your content on this car.
Also keep in mind Hertz, as a policy, does not give you the second key. Ive tried and mot having it keeps you from using the app as it needs all registered keys in the car when pairing the phone to the car in the app. Dealers will charge $600-700 for it. One nice thing about Teslas, they have a hidden "Service Mode" where with a not-so-secret password "service", you can get access to nearly all hidden diagnostics and warnings/alerts in the car, covering nearly all functions- low & high voltage batteries & charging, HVAC, cameras&sensors, brakes, etc... and not just current diagnostic health of those components, but also a history of all warnings/failures in the car (at least since the last car update, which is around a month or two, depending.) It's like a directly & easily accessible ODB2 reader, right on the car screen. This means you can see if any hidden/partial failures in the car

Do you know anything about how the ''extended warranty'' option works say for a 2022 or 2023 Tesla Model 3 (Long Range)
All I know if that it cost 2,000 USD to provide another 25,000 miles, but what I don't know is this:
Is this option available for another new owner, if your buying used and the odemetor miles are say already at 60,000 to 80,000 miles ?
The original warranty on this model only goes to 4/year 50,000, (so 2022 model year's we'll have the original warranty's expiring as early as November 2025 I believe)

Our family bought a used a 2023 C40 Ultimate twin motor with only 5k miles last year, and we absolutely love it. It's our first EV and we are never going back to an ICE car. Fast, quiet, great features, access to Tesla network, range is perfect for our urban needs, and it looks amazing.
Volvo has also been really good with the OTA software update too, especially compared to other legacy car manufacturers. On that point, all Volvo Android Automotive systems will be getting a new display interface, similar to the new EX90 in 2025.
I agree with you critique about Volvo's options and pricing. Like most EVs, brand new, the price is hard to shallow. An lucky for us ours is fully loaded, so it has adaptive cruise control, lane assist, Pilot Assist, 360 camera, heated steering wheel and seats (all 4).

I bought a 2015 Focus from Hertz for under $10K. It had 40K miles and one fender ding but otherwise pretty nice shape. I have 96K miles on it now. The paperwork was easy but getting the title took 2 months.
A used car with high miles and low price is good for me because I'm retired and don't drive much. I also like to have somebody else get the bugs, recalls, and early updates out of the way.
I've been shopping lately but Hertz only had high priced EVs, Teslas that I don't like, and very few Bolts in fugly colors. For the Focus I waited until the car I wanted showed up at the local rental place.

The foam divider exists specifically to reduce the capacity of the front trunk. If it is beyond a certain size, they have to install an egress method from inside in case someone got trapped inside. It’s silly, but it’s actually written in law.

That's why the range of an EV doesn't matter nearly as much as the charge rate and curve.

@@trevorsutherland5263 it's all about use case.
If you don't regularly drive across several states in one shot, but do drive 40-80 miles daily, and can charge at home (crucial), EVs are a great fit and not dealing with gas stations while having a generally better driving experience is eye opening on the masochism of driving ICE as a daily driver for so many years.

So, you're basically a guinea pig for a used Hertz rental EV. Good luck, and better you than me.

The Hertz fleet found its way into many dealers. Whats wild is here they were eligible for the used EV rebate
