Great update to my fav EV. I love the simplicity of the design and functional, gimmick free interior. I thought I would prefer the previous version with the grill but in this colour, this looks epic.

The car you guys tested has the Plus pack, as denoted by the sunroof. This means it also has the foot-activated trunk opening, so there's no point in complaining about the trunk manual lock position.
Lovely car, really nice refresh. It's a shame it's still got that ICE chassis with the transmission tunnel but at least they used the space for more batteries so it's not a complete waste. I also really enjoy this reviewer, very informal and natural style which is refreshing.
Two little points, you should have a button to open the boot from the driver seat (and close too) and you can kick under the rear to open too, that is why the button is not an exclusive way to work. After you mentioned the transmission tunnel, and the console space, you actually had and have batteries on those spaces, that is also why it’s kept and you don’t have that space. Then the dynamics of having that center weight really makes a difference on handling, the EV that keep all the batteries as a platform tend to wobble on turn and suspension range.
The batteries in the transmission tunnel are a good use of the space, but not a reason for it to be there. It's there because the chassis is an ICE chassis. No one would design a pure EV and put a transmission tunnel shape in, as evidenced by the fact that no dedicated EV platforms have it. Also the kick boot opening is a feature of the Plus pack, so it's not on every model, though the one tested here IS a plus pack model as it has the panoramic roof.

Tesla Model 3 2024 is looking very good. And is this really a fair comparison? Polestar 2 is way more expensive... Costs like 75k+$ in my country for the performance version
To bad the UK test car have the option 20 inch wheels😡 Wider tires get more roadnoice and less comfort then the standard 19 inch wheels. Good review anyway!👍
Great update. Wanted one before, want this even more. Something about the shape of this car makes it an instant classic to me. I prefer the fake grille on the orig tho, anyways thought that looked bad-ass.
Since you are driving a model with the panoramic roof, that vehicle has the "Plus" pack and thus has ambient lighting. You just need to explore the settings to enable it.
It's closing the gap, but given the choice again today that I had 18 months ago, I'd still go Model 3. It still trumps it on performance, real-world efficiency, practicality (if only it had a hatchback) whereas the PS2, whilst feeling just as big on the outside, is like some reverse-tardis where it's somehow much more cramped inside. I have to make that choice again in 2 years, it'll be interesting to see if Polestar have something less "compromised" on the market by then.
I selected Polestar over Tesla. Tesla has better performance from stand still, but they are same when moving. Tesla is clearly more efficient (but that was not point for me as I do not do road tripping). I like and liked more P2 infotainment. For me hatchback was significantly more practical and M3 more like you could live with it, but not good at all. Driving dynamics especially on winter is way better in P2. Also I like cockpit design. Also Tesla quality is still (while improving) so bad. Paint is super thin (but at least you have it in all the places). Phantom braking is annoying as hell. Frameless windows (pretty much in any car) bad during winter time. Autopilot when doing lane changes pretty stupid/bad. Look is much better in P2 (but naturally here just my opinion). But naturally there are good things in M3 also like mentioned performance, infotainment is very responsive, go-kart driving feeling (at least in perf version) is very nice, efficiency is great and fancy control possibilities in track mode.
The charging speed sounds great. Yesterday I was taking a trip, needed to charge. The top speed reached 110kw and tapered at 70kw. I went to needed bathroom, had a hot dog from gas station and 15m later I had more range than I needed. At no point I was waiting for car, I was doing regular stuff I would have done anyway. The only ones who maybe need greater charge speed are the ones who somehow want to do 1000km in one go. But that's a minority breed of drivers.
I'm currently in the middle of a 5000+ km road trip in my EV6, a couple days knocking on 1000km, so it does happen and is possible. It is nice to see the EV6 charge at 240kW, then settle to 150-200kW. Like you, by the time we stretch our legs, use the restroom, and grab a snack, we are more than charged enough for the next leg. 100kW charging wouldn't be much worse, definitely usable with some patience.
Increasing range through a bigger battery is nonsense. Keep the same battery, decrease weight and increase efficiency and aero. Weight and aero is where it’s at. This car weighs hundreds of kilos more than a Model 3 without the specs.
@@NickLiangit came out as £13k more for me (comparing Long Range dual motor spec). You can get a brand new model 3 from inventory for £46k vs £53k base price for Polestar plus £6k options brings that to £59k
You found a smooth Cotswold road! Are you sure it's not someone's driveway who isn't short of a few buttons? Anyway the quick car review was great. The shift to rear wheel drive helps the steering without any torque steer but it could become entertaining in very cold weather. Many thanks for sharing.
Totally agree with all said, but can I add why polestar do you continue with the black wheel arch outside edge it looks dull BST version painted finishes the car perfectly. FYI I never use the boot release just place your foot under the rear bumper. Hey presto the boot opens 😂
interior is too small. and hopefully the reverse E brake can be disable totally. And when u use a DC charger, does it still make loud noise during drive off after it is charge?
Awesome update. I think you need the long range to get the performance pack and with the leather seats and add ons it comes to £68k. That is steep. I would expect the Polestar 4 to be in that ballpark when it launches next year. Then you get slightly nicer exterior styling and the benefits of a fully EV platform. Personally I would wait
And when it launches, next year.. The Model 3 (highland) will be a competitor was well as the Model Y (Project Juniper). Interesting times for us consumers :)
Well here in Canada, once you add the packages and the colour it's 8k more than a Model 3. And the Model 3 is about to be upgraded. I don't like Tesla but Polestar really needs to compete on price.
I have no problem with any electric EV coming on the market. What people need to understand that nobody has or can duplicate what Tesla has accomplished. Others are gas cars with electric motors and a battery. Bonus, Polestar has chosen to join the Tesla supercharger network.
There are other "EV from the ground up " cars. Jaguar iPace, VW ID3, ID4, Buzz, Nissan Leaf, BMW i4 and i7 etc. Why do we "need to understand" what Tesla may or may not have done? I personally don't give a jot. I looked at a Tesla Model 3 pre-pandemic, and walked away, because of the horrendously awful quality. Orange peel paintwork, creaky interior trim, no hatchback. And poor comments on Tesla forums - from Tesla owners - regarding crap after sales service etc. Perhaps *you* ought to understand that every day doesn't necessarily begin and end with Tesla.....Here in the UK at least, Tesla will not retain it's charge network advantage, once the likes of Gridserve complete their planned charging hub installations, all of which will have 350kw Ultra Rapid chargers.
This Auto Journalists forgot to do her homework. You don't need use the button on the trunk to open. Just walk up. Swing your feet slightly right under neat and it open. The center tunnel is housing the car battery. So yes, it need the tunnel. 1 of the biggest difference about the Polestar handling vs any other electric car because it doesn't use skateboard platform. Result of a much more willing car in the corner. And no. It is not the same price bracket. With the same specs in comparison, the model 3 is $12k usd cheaper.
Well presented Nicola, so your description on the updates on the 2024 Polestar 2 sounds like it is the 2024 Volvo 240 EV, I only wish it to be true and i still drive them to this day, I could see this as my LV Last Volvo ,i would get the long range RWD and that would be very similar range to my current 240, I just think here in Canada it will be a bit on the pricey side, A Volvo is worth it, i will watch for these at the local dealer who i use to sell for back in the day ❤
I remember when VOLVO’s had front and rear bumpers with dampers which could absorb the energy from a low impact bump. I think thats what most people want when they spend £60k on a car, a little bit of front/rear/side protection on their overly expensive asset, in car parks, on the road parking etc.
It's rear wheel drive because it simplifies the mechanics (no steering on the rear wheels, of course). Therefore enables cheaper production & lower prices. I'm surprised more brands didn't take this approach from the outset. Oh & it's sporty :)
I think the reason is that a lot of EVs are still based on existing ICE car platforms - and most of those are frontcwheel drive. Polestar kind of is also - hence the transmission channel (and the front wheel drive on the first version).
Rear wheel drive cost more for production. Plus, FWD is safer for average drivers because less chance of spinning out when corner fast. It is better they can get to see what kill them when they understeer into a tree or ditch.
Either the high torque from electric motors it’s a challenge to get the power delivered through the front wheels

love the car and the great review video! After its 3rd or 4th upgrade Polestar 2 still has this inconvenient transmission bulge running through the car which removes space to make live more comfortable in the back and storage space in the front. My next car will be electric but just because of that design issue I tend to look in other directions.
A truly lovely car. I believe the transmission tunnel is actually the battery. It’s still unsightly and one of the major detractors that prevents me from considering the Polestar 2.
that's the reason? kind of weird not to get a car due to it having what most cars have don't you think? i love polestar but their prices are just way to up there for most people.
@@nicholaswilkerson501 If you’ll be the only one in it the majority of the time then yeah it might seem odd. But I’m thinking about the folks who will be sitting back there. The battery bump in the Polestar is considerably taller than transmission tunnels in ICE vehicles. I would hate to be the person in the middle having to straddle it.
Trunk can also be open with your foot. So no need to touch the so called low button. Interior quality is way better than Tesla. Especially the driving wheel feels like a real one and not a toy. Not sure how the presenter can say that Tesla has better interior quality. The upgrade makes it nearly perfect
with a really serious car test, you make a long journey with the car and test that the navigator works correctly and provides correct information and e.g. that you can arrive at a commercial charger. and the car has the amount of battery left when you get to the charger that the car said you should have left. and the car actually shows chargers that exist
I own a Tesla Model 3 but rented a Polestar 2 from Hertz for a week. Driving the Polestar 2 was the worst experience, now I know why it's the cheapest vehicle a person can rent from Hertz, couldn't wait to get back in my Tesla.
Yes...fantastic, fantastic interior car design is always having to look to your right to check even simplest piece of information, like in a Tesla. Design (exterior and interior) is really an area where people should keep their mouths shut when contemplating Volvo or Polestar models. The new Volvo EX30, for instance, is a case study in what pertains intelligent, functional and beautiful interior design.
Polestar UK made a mistake with the specs they’ve been telling everyone (including the media) Standard range car max DC charge rate has been reduced from 150 to 135kW
@user-sx1jz4lk4g We have few cars and also Volvo and Polestar. They have been about better quality. Maybe you abuse your Volvo as you think it is a tank.
Is there any chance you could give consumption stats based on the time you have the vehicle (and a figure at 70mph), it would be so much more informative than wltp figures? 👍🏻
They are all driving the same few press cars so aren’t getting the time to do proper driving figures. Speculation seems to be around 280 - 300 miles (she does state something similar early in the video)
how can it compete with tesla model 3 when its so much more expensive. i just bought long range version of model 3 and it cost 47ke and polestar 2 long range dual motor costs 68ke. prices in Finland
I test drove the twin motor version at the weekend as it was on my shortlist of potential buys, the performance was outstanding however i found the boot size pretty disappointing and being 6ft 2 there was no way anyone but a child could sit behind me, the transmission tunnel was annoying as it was putting pressure on my left knee too the interior is pretty sparce for a 58k car (in the spec i drove). The biggest shock was how much value they lose in the first year, i was looking at the approved used on the Polestar website and they had the yr24 model 10 month old in same spec as what i drove with 4k miles and it was £32k, a 26k drop!!! Ouch
Just goes to show how high of a bar the model 3 STILL sets, 6 years after launch, that people still have to use it in a tag line as something to compare against. Also, I can't get over how hilariously "Apple crowd" the phrase "don't want to follow the crowd" still is.
@@mho0 I'm curious in what ways you see P2 as better. The Model 3 is £13k cheaper and has better specs in pretty much every regard, faster, more storage, more efficient, more range faster charging, better charging network, better software, more features, better safety scores. P2 has better looks, wipers and possibly ride quality and that's about it. If they were the same price then I still think M3 is the better car, but I could see why people might go for P2 based on personal preference, but given the huge price difference I just can't see how anyone can justify the P2
@@patmanrick I quess it really depends how you look at it and what you value. That may not be the same as some numbers, which are still one part of the 'evaluation'. In general P2 feels and acts more like normal car and does not have too many annoyances. My son had M3 LR for some time and my neighbour M3 Perf for 4 months (my son went for cheaper hybrid and neighbour to I4 M50 ... so no cars to compare anymore currently ... but our evaluation from the past is about follows). So I prefer: - P2 seats - Pilot assist (while too aggressive, still much less than in M3) - Pilot assist does not do phantom breaking - Pilot assist Does not do that aggressive steering actions - Pilot assist chaging lane work seamlessly - Wipers work - No frameless doors (horrible sometimes during winter) - Fast (at speeds 50kmh+ equally fast as M3 Perf and I4 M50(M3 still much faster from stand still)) - Goes more straight on 'groovy' roads after winter - Overall driving dynamics and especially on slippery (= snow/ice) P2 really good (much much better than M3) - More practical trunk - 'control arms' are not 'broken in every car' (we have family member working with used cars / imported cars, and in practise almost 100% of Teslas fail requlatory inspection if when almost new ... and getting them fixed is typically quite looong/painful excercise -> quality is what it is...) - P2 looks much better inside and out (of course personal preference partly...) - Reasonable turning circle - Seat are not slippery and provide some (although still not good enough side support) - Car generally feels solid like doors and how they sound (my first car long ago was from eastern Europe and I do not miss that feeling for example in doors) - Proper paint (thickness for example), which you can expect to hold on normally - ... I tested few cars 6 months ago and 'problem' list for M3 was pretty long ... won't bother to write it here... And there are issues with P2 also, but I will miss that also now.
Having had a Polestar 2 for nearly 3 years I can say that range was never an issue. That big lump in the back and no space in the front were issues. That it felt like an old car upgraded to be electric and still looks like that, makes me want to pick the Volvo EX30 next.
Nice car, but the Model 3 beats it almost every category: acceleration, charging, efficiency, passenger and cargo space, etc. Buy it if you like it (or just don’t like Tesla), but it’s no Tesla killer.
Killing Tesla isn't necessarily what it's about. Some just prefer to drive an alternative.........in the same way some bought Saab's, Volvo's, Jaguar's etc, because they weren't German.....
I do like the Polestar and the range improvements. I am totally in the camp of NOT wanting to buy a Tesla. However, as technology is changing so rapidly. So I would lease a car. As buying one would have you stuck with "old tech" when you come to sell it.
I jumped out from the lease trap. I will drive my 2017 Yaris hybrid till 2030 before buying an EV with solid state tech (or hydrogen powered) given that not everything moves to subscription...
@TrueDesireHD Sounds like a good plan. My Honda diesel was 180,000 miles and dropping to pieces. Leasing for me gives me a cheap BEV without getting trapped in old technology. I'm sure your right by 2030 technology will be more settled.
@mikadavies660 i realized spending €400 a month for a car isn't worth it. I got trapped and handled leased cars almost like a smartphone, that I needed a new better car with faster charging and bigger battery. But I got a clear vision of what I needed because of this experience 🙂
@TrueDesireHD I totally understand and each experience in life should teach us something. You got tempted by "the latest tech bug" Which many get infected by.... My diesel Honda was costing €2,000/yr in repairs and €150/mth for fuel. So I added the numbers and set my budget at €300/mth for a brand new BEV. I got a Citroën E-C4 for less than my budget and it uses €20/mth in electricity. So my experience (so far) of leasing is positive. We will lease until 2025 then review the whole marketplace.👍
To all those Tesla evangelists. There is a reason the Polestar is more expensive. It's called quality! The model 3 build quality is shameful! If its my own money I'd take the Polestar. It will outlast the Model 3.

Increasing range through a bigger battery is nonsense. Keep the same battery, decrease weight and increase efficiency and aero. Weight and aero is where it’s at. This car weighs hundreds of kilos more than a Model 3 without the specs.
I don't know if the pricing is just differnt in the UK but the Polestar 2 is about $10k more than a Model 3 in the US.
In the UK you have to get all the packs to get the options to the same level as a model 3, it does end up more expensive, about £6k
US has 27.5% tariff on Chinese-made cars (Polestar 2 is made in China). Take away the tariff, and this car is less expensive.
@@NickLiangit came out as £13k more for me (comparing Long Range dual motor spec). You can get a brand new model 3 from inventory for £46k vs £53k base price for Polestar plus £6k options brings that to £59k
@@patmanrick My god, Tesla prices must have come down since I last looked!
@@patmanrickthat’s why teslas are the best selling EVs and others are still playing catch-up
Amazing car. If i had to buy an EV today I'd go for this one, for sure. Also, Polestar has ambient lighting.
I hired one 6 months ago from Gatwick Airport. In heavy traffic I found that anti creep feature was Terrific.
Wowsers lovely trousers is my new favourite saying. Thank you ❤
You found a smooth Cotswold road!
Great seeing you on here. Really enjoying your reviews.
At this point Nichola could review white paint in the dark and she would get the views . As always, fantastic.
Well here in Canada, once you add the packages and the colour it's 8k more than a Model 3. And the Model 3 is about to be upgraded. I don't like Tesla but Polestar really needs to compete on price.
What’s the ride like with those 20” wheels?
Different price points, PS2 with similar range and features as the M3 is significantly more money.
I did try but to no success🤦🏻♀️
@@nicolahume Its a straight "kick" underneath - in and out. No swinging the foot side to side.
Regardless, great review! 👍
Excellent review and great energy, you have really honed your skills, well done on you 👍👍👍👍
She's a fantastic reviewer, big thumbs up to the quirkiness too! If you get the plus pack, that low button for the hatch is a non issue :)
the inconvenience of a traditional car and the styling of a early model sports car.
fatal combo that keeps Polestar having a niche market.
Curb weight is waaaaaay too high. Why is this hundreds of kilos heavier than a Model 3?
It's a design based on a shared ICE platform. The Polestar 3, 4 and others to come have no such issue as they are ground-up BEVs.
Does it have tunnel in the back?
Nice video. A shame the audio seems to be processed through a tinny radio.
I don’t think Tesla has much to worry about.
I own a Tesla Model 3 but rented a Polestar 2 from Hertz for a week. Driving the Polestar 2 was the worst experience, now I know why it's the cheapest vehicle a person can rent from Hertz, couldn't wait to get back in my Tesla.
Also have a Tesla and love it, however the Polestar 2 is more luxurious & definitely quiter
great car, but boy auto makers are still in the dark ages when it comes to interiors.
And still in the dark convincing themselves that they can still convince consumers that they want luxury sedans and crossovers.
Nic and the indicator noises. Lovely. Great car too. 😅 please review the Polestar 3 pleazzzze
Cool looking car
You make me laugh, Nicola. I'll be sure to wear a bright shirt when I take one for a test drive to provide some ambient lighting.
Great review and an interesting car! Love @nichola! 🥰
Great review love
Excellent review! Thanks!
Do youtube algorithms dictate that all electric car reviews should include something about "is this a Model 3 beater"?
I always check in on this review occasionally to see how many of the Tesla Defence Force have recently leapt into action.
😆
1:48 you scared yourself, ended up on wrong side of road on a blind bend. Luckily no other car was approaching😬
Great vid you do make me laugh when you do your vids. Love the new polestar 2 better range and hp well done.
Miles!! Online used in GB & US... How abort adding metric ranges?
Polestar UK made a mistake with the specs they’ve been telling everyone (including the media) Standard range car max DC charge rate has been reduced from 150 to 135kW
@user-sx1jz4lk4g Blablablabigotyracismblablabla
@user-sx1jz4lk4g Volvo and polestar operate completely independently. The car is designed and engineered in Sweden, are you a bit slow in the head?
@user-sx1jz4lk4g Did you post this from your Chinese made phone or your Chinese made laptop by chance?
@user-sx1jz4lk4g We have few cars and also Volvo and Polestar. They have been about better quality. Maybe you abuse your Volvo as you think it is a tank.
Is there any chance you could give consumption stats based on the time you have the vehicle (and a figure at 70mph), it would be so much more informative than wltp figures? 👍🏻
This ^ 100%
One more with this question. None of the recent 2024 Polestar 2 videos show this information....
They are all driving the same few press cars so aren’t getting the time to do proper driving figures. Speculation seems to be around 280 - 300 miles (she does state something similar early in the video)
@@Willjcbaker yeah - I was just thinking reset the old computer, drive it, same just before they drive at 70mph - just an indication …
A gorgeous car, but it doesn't come anywhere near the efficiency levels of a Model 3. Still, keep it up, Polestar!
how can it compete with tesla model 3 when its so much more expensive. i just bought long range version of model 3 and it cost 47ke and polestar 2 long range dual motor costs 68ke. prices in Finland
Maybe because some people buy the cars they *like* and aren't necessarily guided by cost......
Love your reviews
Nice review❤
Hume will soon consume us all. Top review BTW. 😊

Nobody:
Polestar: design it like a 2009 Dodge Avenger
Unfortunately Tesla M3 is still head and shoulders above it . Nice car though. Coming from long time Volvo user :)
But not everyone's car buying choices are dictated by head and shoulders.....
Ouch
Still looks like the number of cupholders are inadequate. Just install one seat.
lovely review!
Just goes to show how high of a bar the model 3 STILL sets, 6 years after launch, that people still have to use it in a tag line as something to compare against. Also, I can't get over how hilariously "Apple crowd" the phrase "don't want to follow the crowd" still is.
Even worse, this is still inferior to the Model 3 on virtually every empirical metric, and costs a lot more
@@patmanrick I guess it depends how look at it. I see P2 better than M3.
So I prefer:
- P2 seats
- Pilot assist (while too aggressive, still much less than in M3)
- Pilot assist does not do phantom breaking
- Pilot assist Does not do that aggressive steering actions
- Pilot assist chaging lane work seamlessly
- Wipers work
- No frameless doors (horrible sometimes during winter)
- Fast (at speeds 50kmh+ equally fast as M3 Perf and I4 M50(M3 still much faster from stand still))
- Goes more straight on 'groovy' roads after winter
- Overall driving dynamics and especially on slippery (= snow/ice) P2 really good (much much better than M3)
- More practical trunk
- 'control arms' are not 'broken in every car' (we have family member working with used cars / imported cars, and in practise almost 100% of Teslas fail requlatory inspection if when almost new ... and getting them fixed is typically quite looong/painful excercise -> quality is what it is...)
- P2 looks much better inside and out (of course personal preference partly...)
- Reasonable turning circle
- Seat are not slippery and provide some (although still not good enough side support)
- Car generally feels solid like doors and how they sound (my first car long ago was from eastern Europe and I do not miss that feeling for example in doors)
- Proper paint (thickness for example), which you can expect to hold on normally
- ... I tested few cars 6 months ago and 'problem' list for M3 was pretty long ... won't bother to write it here... And there are issues with P2 also, but I will miss that also now.
@@mho0 fair enough, always good to get other perspectives 👍
Having had a Polestar 2 for nearly 3 years I can say that range was never an issue. That big lump in the back and no space in the front were issues. That it felt like an old car upgraded to be electric and still looks like that, makes me want to pick the Volvo EX30 next.
move your foot under the back, no need to grab that low button for the trunk
Is the ride less harsh than the first one???
I think the ride is only harsh in the performance pack version. I like the regular Polestar 2 ride.
Does the 2 have tech equivalent to Tesla Autopilot? Absent that, I wouldn't consider it.
Its a battery tunnel, not transmission tunnel.
WAIT! more efficient AND uses less power?! Ummm that would be the same thing…
Well, unfortunately not the same price bracket as a Model 3, once you add the needed packages to make it decent it’s around 20% more
Who wouldn't wanna be Nikola's transmission tunnel.
How many kW AC charging?
It was mentioned in the video.......
We will lease until 2025 then review the whole marketplace.👍
fully agree that tech is changing rapidly, but if current tech is good enough for you I see no issue.
Great presentation, sad that the car has all the charm of a concrete block.
The Polestar 2 has ambient lights. In the center concole and across the dash
Plenty of Volvo bits and pieces which is not a bad thing. Expected more range from more powerful battery but nothing special at this price point
Thank your for the lovely presentation, unfortunately the tesla model 3 is better at everything
Unfortunately, you are wrong. :-)
The problem is that the bottom rung Tesla 3 costs £13,000 less than the Polestar.
To all those Tesla evangelists. There is a reason the Polestar is more expensive. It's called quality! The model 3 build quality is shameful! If its my own money I'd take the Polestar. It will outlast the Model 3.
You should be able to open the rear trunk lid by putting your foot under the car
Great review of a great car. Maybe the indicator is satisfying when you are inside the cabin but it might just be a 'you' thing
Not just Nicola I’m also a sucker for a good indicator ticker, you can’t beat the Mk2 Ford Focus indicator though 😂
8:44 there’s ambient lighting. But it’s white.
what colour is this?
