- SOLD Reviewed today is this 2009 Mercedes-Benz S600, a rather incredible sedan with amazing performance figures for today, let alone a decade ago when it was made. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V12 putting out 510HP and over 600 lbs.-ft of torque, this 5000 lbs. car would rocket from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds (faster than a 911S) and do the quarter mile in 12.6 (as fast as a Lamborghini Murcialago of the same year).
But what is the point of this (then) $150K Q-ship? Who would buy this thing, and why? The average S-Class buyer is 61 years old - is he really going to run these speeds on the open road? My friend Robert insists this car was made as a corporate jet replacement in Europe, where it makes more sense to hop in this thing and run 150MPH to the next major city in Germany than it does to go to the trouble of private air travel. I suppose that's a feasible enough explanation.

purchased a 2011 S550 back in may. I really like it. My local service advisor told me the only problem with these vehicles is that you don't know what to buy next lol

I have the E550 an I love it been all over the US! Premium Gas there very good they compete against Honda!
It's basically a rich man's Honda!
My 2010 S550 ruined me for my other car, which was a 2002 BMW 3 series convertible. It was in mint condition. I had that car for 8 years. The lack of power and comfort made me sell it and pick up a 645Ci convertible. It's still not as comfortable than the S550 but the power is up there.
As a husband of 3 kids and a so called wife, this is probably the best car review I have ever seen. Truly a masterpeace. Thank you, i’m happy now

Saw a cls550 in a car accident, I must say the way the airbags looked around the whole car is truly beautiful, yes the bens was wrecked but the airbags, looks like clouds all around inside.
It's no longer possible to do 150mph in Germany very often. The roads are heavily congested most of the time, primarily with Polish trucks. So there goes your private jet alternative.
Who wants a Bentley when you can pick up a German limousine for 15k

I've been lucky enough to drive an S600 Maybach from this generation, and it was beautiful! A wee bit slow on take off, but it kept pulling like a freight train! I can only imagine how _spritely_ this S600 is with less weight to cart around.

Man, one thing that I really love about this S600 is that the interior is really quiet inside, you can't hear a thing inside when you're driving the car.

I have a 07 S600 - hands down best car I’ve ever owned. I have near brand new C63s latest model and I think the S is a much nicer car. Just doesn’t look as cool - but definitely as quick

@@stefke318 100% - still in the garage, I might do an update video soon. In the last 2 years ive literally just done oil changes and i have replaced a heater control valve for like $80. I do though have a minor oil leak, that requires engine out to fix, but its been like that for probably 1.5 years and apart from a small oil patch on the floor has not gotten worse and car drives fine...In saying that i'd love to fix it one day now I have a hoist / workshop. Definitely recommend them IF they've been garaged and well looked after.

any update on reliability? any major repairs? Also, how's your mpg?
Easily good for another 100k+ miles if you replace the gearbox oils. This did not need a MB workshop, only the oils need the right specifications. MB says, this is not mandatory, but experience shows it is. There are in reality also no long lasting motor-oils, motor-oil has to be replaced every 15k miles.
Rick2010100 - 15k? I don’t care what anyone’s owners manual says, oil changes every 5k miles, all other fluids at 30-50k miles. I want my cars to last. Especially if I’m driving an S class.

Just FYI, the W220 was actually smaller in all dimensions than the W140. It was narrower not as tall and not as long it only offered more rear leg room over the w140 because the took up some slight trunk space with the rear seats. The W221 actually went back to the size of the W140 in its dimensions. And the current W223 that was just released is even bigger yet compared to the w221 And the w140. The new one is taller wider and longer and that’s even before you add the extra size from the new Maybach models who’s is EVEN bigger lol.

i had a ls430 with 350k mi it literally wouldnt break. trust me. i tried. its one of the most reliable and indestructible luxury cars u can get and it rides very nicely

W221 S-Class and W211 E-Class at least. No idea C-Class? It's fine, feels weirds at the start but you get used to it pretty quick. Super easy to use.

Biggest problem with this cars is the suspension. I had a w220 and w221, both had endless very annoying suspension problems with the airmatic struts....leaks, control valves, level sensors, and compressors going out. Otherwise they were very comfortable daily drivers.
My E55 has 133K miles, and a totally original Airmatic. Works perfect, reasonable to fix if/when it needs repair. You need to find a better Mercedes repair shop.
the most over-engineered car(for its time) remains the VW Phaeton in my book..

The depreciation brings tears to the eyes of the original owners. The repair bills bring tears to the eyes of subsequent owners. They both bring chuckles to me as I drive by in my Lexus.
