This mechanic is clearly so passionate and knowledgeable about his craft (if a bit unsympathetic and brutal haha). Combined with Alex's charisma and team, pure bliss. Thanks Alex (and team)!
I’ve gotta say, 9800 quid to get it in excellent condition really surprised me. I know the car isn’t worth much in the current state, but the msrp of this car was probably £100.00+? If you’re an elderly chap who’s really fond of his Merc that seems reasonable to keep it going a few more years
You'd just buy a better one in the first place, or if it was your pride and joy you wouldn't have let it get that bad, I have a 22 year old 250,000 mile W210 E55 that's gone to rusty to be worth repairing, I have all the bills from the first 16 years of it's life and it cost more than it's original purchase price of £72k to keep it nice for 16 years and then only 6 years of neglect and a poor paint repair for it to rust out at the back.
I’m a mechanic and one of my customers has an E65 BMW 7 series with the V12. Notoriously finicky cars and he has sunk thousands in it. But he loves the car. It has 210,000 miles right now. It’s no Lexus but if maintained correctly it’s actually a somewhat liveable car. Applied to most high end cars, I have a 335i myself.
The headlight lenses are easy to polish and fix for under 20$. All you need is some sandpaper (400-1000-2000 grit) and a can of spray clear varnish that's UV resistant. Just remove the white stuff with progressively finer grits and then finish with the spray which will bring them back to a transparent state. Did that on my mom's Civic about 5 years ago and they still look mint.
Yes this works well for external UV damage and pitting, but a lot of cars also suffer from damage inside the light on the lens and require them to be split to clean.
Think you'd change your mind if you watched the Furious Driving video of him doing the front brakes on his Merc estate. Using the wrong grease and tightening up wheel bolts with a windy gun doesn't indicate good practice to me!
You can tell from the size of the unit, and the motors in the background, this boy knows his stuff. He deserves good business from this video. I implore you to go forward with the work to this car. But a straight pipe as well? It will sound….beyond EPIC 😀
Needs equal length headers and an X joint to sound any good, straight pipes will just be annoyingly loud and droney and it will need cats to stay legal anyway so may as well fit some boxes rather than ruin the thing like the Jag.
Alex i hold my hand out to u mate autoalex has absolutely blew up as we all knew it would loving all the content watched all the vids so far and u tyler and rory are the real replacement for clarkson may and hammond 😂 pure comedy gold along with some awesome cars

I think it's fair to say Mercedes is not quite the byword for quality it might have been 30 years ago. That said they sell more of them and profits have never been higher, they realised the three pointed star was what people where paying for even if it was mounted on complete junk.

But alas, it is Alex and it wouldn't exist if it wasn't DIY :D Great video. Hello Alex and Co. Love your penniless exotic car fan bit. Your adventures are still great fun to observe. It does seem a pity to go all over Europe and only see the chocolate milk dealers mind you. Ok. The prices quoted for up fixing der Benz seem pretty good. Definitely let the nice shop full of Snap On tools do the under three grand part, just to get things going. As for 'Defogging' the exterior of headlights, there is the going up the ladder with finer and finer wet sanding process etc. but... EVEN- Arm & Hammer Baking Soda toothpaste, Wilkos wool bonnets and polishing disc attached to a battery drill (SET ON Speed 1 with GENTLE pressure!), a spray bottle filled with plain clean water, 20 minutes per side (or however long of gentle sweeps (WITH a spray of water every now and then to keep headlights moist/cool)), and then, wash to clean off stuff, then dry fully, then wipe on a GOOD Anti-UV formula or PROPER headlight UV Protectant Lacquer... Done it to my Grande Punto, Honda Accord and multiple other my/friends/families cars, and, it lasts at least a coupla years! 👌 NOTE: For REALLY heavily damaged headlight lenses, then, either source replacement new/pattern part on eBay, or a GOOD clean replacement from a Scrappy etc, or, get a pro in... And Y E S DONE RIGHT, even this version of a cheap hack WILL WORK AND LAST for at least say 18month/2 years! 👍 😎🇬🇧

I put my hand through it without even trying. And it was up for several thousand quid. Oops.
I hope the way he was checking your cars bodywork was done for comedy effect. If i caught a mechanic ramming a crowbar into the underside of my car we'd be having some strong words. Even if the cars solid he's going to chip the paint off and then that bit will rust. You get the odd MoT tester who goes wild with a screwdriver rather than using the blunt tool.

That suspension exercise reminded me Mansell’s Williams F1 car when they were demonstrating the active suspension system. “We make stupid decisions so you don’t have to” that’s should be on a t-shirt. 😂 brilliant episode as always… poor car 😢
