  • Living in Bahrain has pros and cons (like anywhere else in the world). So let's talk about them! I talked so much about living in Kuwait that I think it's only fair that I spend some time on a Bahrain expat guide for people living in Bahrain, thinking of moving to Bahrain or just people who want to know about the things to do in Bahrain.Here here are the pros and cons of living in Bahrain as an expat...from an expat who's actually living in Bahrain.

    It's odd how when we talk about those of us from the "west", moving to countries in the "east" we describe ourselves as "expats", but when it's the other way around we use the term "migrant worker".

    • @AimeeRebecca
      @AimeeRebecca  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wonder if it has more to do with the country the workers are living in. When I lived overseas, myself and all of my co-workers were referred to as expats, no matter where we came from. Now I’m back in the U.K., I still work with people from all over the world, but everyone is referred to as a migrant worker. That’s just my experience so I don’t know if that’s the norm. It’s interesting though.

    • @MisterBurtonshaw
      @MisterBurtonshaw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AimeeRebecca Indeed, maybe the recent political climate in the UK has made us use the "migrant" term when talking about other country's
      nationals. Maybe we should describe ourselves as such?

    I've been watching your videos recently as I'm a ("westernised" for better or worse when it comes to that term) Bahraini who will be moving back to Bahrain in September after living in London for the past few years. Your videos have nuanced my homesickness and I think paint a very vivid picture of what Bahrain is like, but from the perspective of a migrant. Having been a migrant in the UK it's interesting to be able to compare your experience to mine. Great videos 🙏❤️

    I lived in Bahrain many years ago and loved it. The ruler was very progressive and did a lot to improve the welfare of its people. However, after he died I heard that things changed for the worse, I had returned to UK by then but did see videos of protesting and unrest. I’m assuming things are better now?

    What do you do for a living if you’re comfortable? I really want to travel the world but I don’t know what I should do for an income that lets me.
    Also, is it a must to learn Arabic if you’re going to move there?

    • @AimeeRebecca

      I'm a teacher so that makes it quite easy to travel and find work. I 100% wouldn't recommend going into teaching for that reason though. But if you do move to Bahrain, you don't need to know Arabic. A lot of people there are expats and English is widely spoken

I know it's overwhelming to make a big change like this (I felt the same), but don't get too bogged down. Life is not a race. Besides, you're looking at people right now and you feel like you're behind compared to them, but those same people are probably looking at you and thinking the exact same thing. If it's a private beach, I would call ahead and check. It also really depends on the time of year. During the winter months you'd be fine, but in the spring and summer I think your dog might be uncomfortable in the heat.

    Nice video! I spent some time there (2012/2013) and I did not had the same experience. the people I got to meet were always busy and never had time to show any place around. I had to move by myself and could not really get to make much friends over there. I did not had the chance to rent a car because of my homecountry did not had any type of agreement over the driver licence and getting one over there took almost 1 year (they gave me a date for the examn that was already 1 month prior to my departure). I wish Uber existed when I was there.. I would have not argued so much with the taxi drivers.

      I'm guessing you are a guy.... Going by the treatment...This lady here lives in a bubble where general opinions on the whole population is formed based on how people immediately around treat her. Enjoy the videos on youtube by taking it with a pinch of salt. EOD they are not professionals in the fields they give opinions but just content creators. TH-cam is that source where you have to use your judgement wisely too

    • @AimeeRebecca
      @AimeeRebecca  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I am so happy for you. I'm sure you'll love the adventure. In my experience, teaching jobs in Kuwait are easier to come by because they have a higher turnover of teachers so there are positions popping up all throughout the year. But if you start looking at around this time of year ready for the next academic year then there are plenty of teaching opportunities in Bahrain too.
