Big fan of Henry here. I like the tube magazine setup. The only change I would make is a higher polish on the magazine tube. Thanks for covering them here!
I believe that the .30-30 and .45-70 are simply called that - looking on Henry's website, they don't really give them a specific name, unlike their Big Boy and Golden Boy line of rifles. I've always liked the idea of a lever-action rifle and thankfully, we can get them over here in the UK.
Hi James, I was told recently that apparently the UK had banned lever actions obviously not true, I’m waiting for the government here in Australia to try it here.
Henry typically names each line of rifles but not name each caliber finish combo. They have the golden boy series, silver boy series, big boy series, frontier series, long ranger series, all weather series
@@Paul-45-70 We haven't banned lever actions. What was banned - completely unfairly - was a class of action known as lever release. Because semi auto centrefire rifles are not legal here (ordinary pistols are fine in Northern Ireland, part of the Good Friday Agreement, I believe), some clever chaps devised a workaround, because otherwise we'd just have straight pull and conventional turn bolt rifles. When you fire, the bolt flies rearwards, ejecting the empty case, and locks open. You then press a button, and the bolt goes home, picking up a live round and readying the rifle for the next shot. There was a variant of this where releasing the bolt was accomplished by pulling the trigger - there were some VZ58s in such a configuration. A couple of years ago there was a public consultation, and amongst other things the topic of these rifles came up. The argument was that 'although these rifles are yet to be used in criminal acts, they could pose exceptional danger to the police and public if they were'. The government, naturally, didn't listen to anybody who objected and went ahead with the bill, it became an Act of Parliament and that was the end of that.
@@Paul-45-70 I don't even know where I pull out half of this stuff. Just things I've learned about and filed away in my head. Hopefully an opportunity to rationalise the gun laws will be made. Many people in the UK don't want to know about firearms, and without public support for reform, there's precious little chance of political change. The best thing to do is bring friends and family into the sport.
Hey I noticed a very nice styling que. The checkering around the wrist, It goes down around bottom of the tang. Little extra something there. Good work Henry.
I love your channel. Your unending depth of knowledge and humility make for a winning presentation. Honestly, it's like I'm listening to my uncles having a fireside chat. Keep up the good work. Any criticism you may receive is surely the result of jealousy.
Mike you are doing just fine with the videos. Keep doing what you are doing. Very informative on the lever action rifles. Always a favorite. Color case hardening just makes them more interesting and attractive. Take care and be safe.
I wanted to watch and see how you rated Henry rifles after doing videos on Holland and Holland, Rigby and other top drawer English made firearms. I am so impressed that you give credit where its due and owning and using some of the best made guns there are still give the manufacturers of Henry rifles praise for their ingenuity. I just get more impressed with your knowlege and love of well made firearms. Thanks for sharing and for all you have taught me.
I love the Henry rifles and also the older Marlin rifles. They are all accurate and parts are easy to find. My favorite calibers, beside 22lr, are .35 Remington and 45/70 Govt. I guess I’ll get a few 357 magnum levers once this gun and ammo freeze is finally over. I love the simplicity of design of these rifles. This was a great presentation and I’ve watched it several times. My newest Henry has a side loading gate, also! Mike, thank you for all you do here!
I like your videos! Your coverage on the Husqvarnas convinced me to buy one instead of a Parker Hale! You are a stellar source of information! Now subscribed.
Love my Henry .38-55 !!! Action like butter, accurate and gobbles up everything I feed it. Hard hitting cartridge. 255 grain cast bullet at 1800 fps will knock anything in lower 48 off its feet. Ask me how I know.
I must admitt I was one of those who complained about video quality... Thank you for having 1080p back, gives additional pleasure to watching your videos. Nice looking single shot! Reminds me of those beautiful european kiplaufs!
Like others have said: Your videos are awesome. I quite enjoy and appreciate the accurate language you use to describe the details and features of rifles you review. Don't worry about the nay-sayers. I think the world needs more people like you. I would love to sit down and just absorb the knowledge you have!
Good video and even better when you pulled out those Hagns, they always make for a better video hahaha!! I think Henry in there new models they incorporated the loading gate into there lever actions
I have a wildlife edition with the brass reciever and engravings of Bear on 1 side and a moose on the other. Levereloution hornady factory ammo, 93 yards 3 shot group that is touching. Pretty accurate, I think they have the smoothest action of all levers.
I have a Henry 30-30 with the slimmer barrel and blued receiver, and I am thrilled with it as a light and comfortable reliable hunter. The tiger-stripe coloring is just OK, I prefer the "Rorschach ink blot" irreg yellow-blue case colors of old, or else give me a blued steel. BTW Another GREAT video.
I've read about them and seen photo's but none of that does justice to the beauty of the case hardening on the Henry , Great video straight and too the point , looking forward to seeing you on the range with it . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well !
I’ve been enjoying my 1860 lately. It is so smooth and has almost no noticeable recoil. With factory Winchester 44-40 cartridges, it is so mild I’ve been enjoying it more than my 22’s.
Your videos are great👍 Very knowledgeable and unique content. Keep it up! I learn a lot from them, plus I just love looking at all the different guns and how they work!
Henry recently added a side gate to every single one of their models that is not a rimfire and are keeping the tube loading method as well. So you can unload your rifle without having to cycle every round through the action which seems pretty usable. And of course you get the benefit of the side gate not having to be near the muzzle when loading and it’s easier to top off your gun with a side gate.
Hey up USOG, keep up the good videos and content, ignore your detractors. I did want your advice after a 7mm-08 rifle unsure what to go with savage axis/axis ii, 110 or ruger american or as 3rd choice browning xbolt
My nephew and I purchased Henry Rifles together a few years ago. He got the Big-Boy in .45LC with a brass receiver and I bought the Big-Boy in .38/.357, all blued. Both shoot really well! Great video, as always!
Another fantastic review! I always rate you at 5 stars for your knowledge and excellent presentation! Here is an idea inspired by your black and white movie comment: it would be pretty cool if you did a review in black and white except for the gun. Now that would be a challenge for your camera people 😃 Also I would love to see a review on the TC Venture 2. Maybe a comparison between midrange priced rifles? Like the Bergara, Tikka, XPR, Venture 2, Weatherby Vanguard, etc... Keep up the great work! Your videos are NEVER boring! If anyone thinks so..buzz off!
Funny you mentioned Doug Turnbull, it grabbed my attention. His shop is right down the road from me. I never realized how well known his work is until I started watching firearms videos a few years ago. His shop puts out some fine pieces.
I liked the 1st Henry rifle I bought so much I bought a second one!!! Great product, even better customer service!!! What other companies give you a life time warranty because they believe so much in their Awesome product??!! 🇺🇸
Anthony Imperato is a decent Customer Orientated Guy , Great personality Too ! I got the .308 win, did the recall and am a happy owner of a single shot ! Henry does it Right .
I really like the lever guns, and Henry makes some really beautiful ones. I have been kicking around the idea of adding one of the new side gate ones to my collection.
Great video and I was wondering if you could do one on how and where to find guns with the best prices. I've noticed many of the prices you have quoted over the years are many times double than that I find. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Your videos are excellent. Your camera operator does a fantastic job focusing in on the part of the gun you’re talking about. Sound is great in this video
Thank you Paul - your comments are especially welcome and we usually feel so technically weak - as far as lighting and filming and sound etc...glad we're not too bad : )
I have one Henry, a new version, I love it. Side loading gate a must for me. Owned a few Marlins, mine were great shooters but there are some things a little nicer on the Henry. Good video. Thanks.
I have a Henry 410 single shot I spoke to Henry and they took care of the recall right away. They will send you a free shipping label. I think it took about 2 weeks to get it back. Great costumer service
Great video! Great LEE-VER action rifle. (Lol. Say it how you wanna. To heck with haters.) I love my Henry Big Boy in .357 MAG/.38 SPL. Never fails to feed, or eject, once I figured out what ammo it "likes" (Hornady Critical Defense, in my case, along with a few others), and is accurate, and solidly built... and looks good! Also: Henry; Made in the USA, or not made at all!
henry makes the best value proposition in rimfire lever actions. They have much in common with the bill rugers start, read the market, find the holes and fill with smartly designed well made products. I've yet to own one however. Thanks for the video excellent commentary as always
Hey Mike, I've always liked Henry's attitude about keeping old-school quality and remaining American-made. I've given some thought to getting one of the 1860 Models but I would really love one of the 1860's in 22lr. I realize there are a few things that would need to be reconfigured for 22lr. I'd think a few of their designers might need an hour or two and some pizza but they'd have the coolest 22-lever rifle on the market, period! Yep, total bragging rights at the range! Maybe Henry might produce the 1860RF one day... I'd buy one! Great video, as always! Take care and be well!
You are my favorite when it comes to guns. No big ego and an honest opinion not tainted by other Utube gun sites. Cameras and all that are not that important with the information you are sharing. My honest opinion.
Enjoyable and informative, as always! I'd love to see your take on one of the Henry "Long Ranger" models. These have an interesting design: They are a lever action, but have a rotating three-lug bolt that is said to lock up pretty tight. They are chambered in long range calibers, even 6.5 Creedmore, so the actions seem like they might have a lot more going on than a typical lever carbine. Some report that they are very slick. I've only handled one in a shop and there was a lot of travel and stickiness to the action... but maybe that would improve significantly with some breaking in(?)
I always enjoy your videos but not much time to watch lately. I do like the Henry all weather 45-70 with the loading gate. Thanks for taking the time to lay them all out on the table..!
Don’t worry about your videos they are great . Henry is now putting loading gates so I might buy one now and I like the single shots to .I am a older guy now and just enjoy looking at your wonderful collection thank you for all the good videos. Don’t sweat your detractors and complainers .
Great review and great audio! Never was a fan of henry with the pot metal receivers and rounded flats on the barrels. But the single shot might be something to buy if it's all steel.
Your Henry's lever pivot screw is about to fall out! P.S. I'm really tempted with the .45-70 version for my dedicated Buffalo Rifle. Have the Henry Golden Boy in .22 and it is smoother than my Browning BL 22. The half mag and pistol grip of the larger caliber is Classic!
I've been wanting that Henry Single Shot in 45-70, they are impossible to find right now, lots of guns are. But I am guessing the recall may something to do with that as well.
I own Marlin, Winchester and Henry. The best brand by far if Henry. The fit, finish, bluing, accuracy, smooth action, tube feed and loading gate, and beautiful wood stocks are far and away better than the competition. I recently purchased a Henry steelside gate in .360 Buckhammer and it takes me back to 1880 every range session.
Hello Mike ,,,, I was wondering if you could do a video on your process of repairing a rifle with a cracked stock. More specifically the upper tang area . I remember you mentioning drilling it out and using epoxy(?) and rods ..... Irecently acquired a sporterized rifle with an Enfield action, rechambered in 300 Weatherby magnum. It has 2 cracks in the tang caused by the "wedge" effect that you had mentioned . I think an " in the shop" video on this repair would be very interesting and beneficial , not only in my case , but for your other viewers as well ..... Thanks , and please continue making these videos !!! They are a great resource of information!! .
I noticed that your rear sight ladder is all the way down. That's the one gripe I have with Henry. The sights just won't set low enough. Ladder all the way down and still hits high at a hundred. I've shot 30-30, 45-70, and.243 and got the same result. I wish they would tune the sights to where the hundred yard setting would be in the middle of the ladder for big game calibers. I've got an all weather 30-30 and with the rounds I like to hunt (170 grn power points) with it shoots 8 inches high with the ladder all the way down...effectively making it a thousand dollar paper weight.
Have you done a video about semi-auto shotguns (modern ones) recently? I'm slowly planning to get one and it would be nice to hear your thoughts about their features.
I don't live in the right tax bracket for expensive industrial art; but I just bought a Henry single shot shotgun....I like it a little more every day. Simple, beautiful, interesting and fun to shoot and own. Great video; thanks.
I love the look of color case hardening done using something like the bone charcoal method. I just don't like the look of the chemical process used to mimic "color case hardening" on the Henry. It ends up looking like the liquid pattern that it is. It makes the Henry look striped. That said, the overall build quality on the latest Henry's is superb.
Hi Adam - The pistol grip was designed to allow the shooter to more easily pull the gun into the shoulder and hold up with one hand. Those advantages remain. I'll take the pistol grip. Take care Adam.
Been wanting to pick up a henry single shot 45/70 with the steel receiver just so hard to find at the moment. They have a brass one at a local shop but that's not my style. Your 3030 is a legacy model now that they are putting loading gates on all their steel frame lever guns.
You will get a trigger upgrade with that recall as well. My 45-70 single shot came after the recall and there is a dimple inside the trigger guard behind the trigger to denote that. Trigger pulls at 3.5 lbs. I have 4 Henry Rifles. 45-75 single shot, .357 Big Boy, .22 Lever action, and a Lever Action Axe in 410. Only the Axe has a side loading gate. I honestly don't feel the other rifles need the loading gate; the tube loading is fine. My only gripe with my Henry rifles are the cosmetic surface of the barrels. The blueing is fine but the finish is satin, and not smooth. They all shoot great. The H001 .22 lever has over 5,000 rounds through it.
Good review. What's your opinion on using 45-70 in an 86 Winchester 45-90 .I just acquired it and it has an excellent bore for being made in 1897.As for choosing between the Marlin and Henry it would be the Marlin because i have hunted extensively in BC Canada with the model 95 45-70 and it has never failed me plus it has a loading gate. That's a JM Marlin.
My opinion they are. Beautiful guns with lifetime warranty, I own three at this time, all lever actions, golden boy.22 mag, 17 cal lever, 45/70 lever !
I have and old 60s model 22 Winchester you might know the one. I own. Its a easy lever action with tube fed. Magazine. It was featured in jack O Conner. 2nd addition book. The rifleman. I got for my birth day. When I was ten years old this henery looks alot like it. Wonder if they used it as a template.
I like your vids for sure. I understand that Henry fills a nice for sure. But from a nostalgic point of view I think its very hard to beat the original's. These guns move it right into the Rossi class of firearms. 😳😊
The Henry made version of the Marlin 336 is very well made and looks good. Marlin has been on a down slide since the Remlin came out. I have a 1995 337cs I baught new that I wouldn't trade for any other...sharp checkering, excellent wood and fitting, deep blueing etc. Vidio quality is just fine, enjoy all your vids.👍
i was hoping you could research how to prevent accidental lockup when using the key-lock hammer on rossi 92 and similar.....i would like to know if it is illegal to use glue or locktight or? to disable that function due to the horrible disablement/inconvenience that arises if the action gets cycled and the result is tool-blocked seize
I would choose. Remington made Marlin 1895 CB 45-70 with the 18.5” octagonal barrel. 6+1 rounds. Henry’s seem to be so popular in 2022 but a Remington made Marlin 2016 or newer is a superb Marlin levergun.
Hi Jody - They're good - I like the side gate and still like the tube drop simplicity. Interesting company : Henry - they seem to have a unique way of doing things. Thanks for the note.
Joe Walsh said it best. " The whole world's digital. I'm still analog." Great video once again. Thanks

@@JamesTorson thank you for the explanation.
We have a similar rifle here that is legal at the moment.
Good work Henry.
had two Henry's from 2002. both had failure to feed problems and with one the front sight fell of because wrong screw was used.
I always appreciate your content friend. Please continue!
I can't get on the Henry bandwagon cause I left on the old Win/Mar stagecoach. You still make great videos .
Thank you , you are soft spoken, direct and honest.
Your too funny, great sense of humor. Love the channel, keep the video coming, I enjoy each and every one.
I love the new look of your videos! Henry's are quality rifles thanks for the spotlight!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such an enjoyable format. I could watch you and your amazing guns all day
Love my Henry .38-55 !!!
Thank you! We try : )
Like others have said: Your videos are awesome. I quite enjoy and appreciate the accurate language you use to describe the details and features of rifles you review. Don't worry about the nay-sayers. I think the world needs more people like you. I would love to sit down and just absorb the knowledge you have!
Thank you Graham! I'll keep going. All the best to you.
Very interesting video, I learned something about hardening steel of cases
Another fantastic review! I always rate you at 5 stars for your knowledge and excellent presentation! Here is an idea inspired by your black and white movie comment: it would be pretty cool if you did a review in black and white except for the gun. Now that would be a challenge for your camera people 😃
Also I would love to see a review on the TC Venture 2. Maybe a comparison between midrange priced rifles? Like the Bergara, Tikka, XPR, Venture 2, Weatherby Vanguard, etc...
Keep up the great work! Your videos are NEVER boring! If anyone thinks so..buzz off!
Love the Henrys. Always have always will. You videos are fantastic. Very informative and not just a lot of blowing stuff up. Keep it it.
Thank you Jeff 🙏
Funny you mentioned Doug Turnbull, it grabbed my attention. His shop is right down the road from me. I never realized how well known his work is until I started watching firearms videos a few years ago. His shop puts out some fine pieces.
I liked the 1st Henry rifle I bought so much I bought a second one!!! Great product, even better customer service!!! What other companies give you a life time warranty because they believe so much in their Awesome product??!! 🇺🇸
Awesome Chad!
What beautiful rifles. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos 👍
Anthony Imperato is a decent Customer Orientated Guy , Great personality Too !
I got the .308 win, did the recall and am a happy owner of a single shot !
Henry does it Right .
Very interesting review. Keep up the awesome work. And you got a new subscriber. I look forward to more.
I really like the lever guns, and Henry makes some really beautiful ones. I have been kicking around the idea of adding one of the new side gate ones to my collection.
Nice to see you back up
Your passion and intellect are always notable.
Great video and I was wondering if you could do one on how and where to find guns with the best prices. I've noticed many of the prices you have quoted over the years are many times double than that I find. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Good solid review of a good solid rifle regards as always
Your videos are excellent. Your camera operator does a fantastic job focusing in on the part of the gun you’re talking about. Sound is great in this video
Thank you Paul - your comments are especially welcome and we usually feel so technically weak - as far as lighting and filming and sound etc...glad we're not too bad : )
I have one Henry, a new version, I love it. Side loading gate a must for me. Owned a few Marlins, mine were great shooters but there are some things a little nicer on the Henry. Good video. Thanks.
Thank you!
Nice info USOG, very interesting, thanks.
I have a Henry 410 single shot
I spoke to Henry and they took care of the recall right away. They will send you a free shipping label. I think it took about 2 weeks to get it back. Great costumer service
I agree - henry customer service is tops. Louis and Anthony are great and caring people.
They lighten up the trigger during the recall too.
Thank you Dave 🙏
Love your videos, keep it up :)
Thanks J Terry - I almost has one in .243; seems to be similar to the BLR - but I'll learn more, get one in studio and make a video. Cheers!
I found that pulling the hammer back prior to working the lever on the Long Ranger makes it much smoother to operate. Just me.
I always enjoy your videos but not much time to watch lately. I do like the Henry all weather 45-70 with the loading gate. Thanks for taking the time to lay them all out on the table..!
Hi Alex - Hope you get more time to do the things you'd like to; not just USOG : )
Nice video.
Thank you!
thanks, nice review sir, keep it up, i just subscribed
Don’t worry about your videos they are great . Henry is now putting loading gates so I might buy one now and I like the single shots to .I am a older guy now and just enjoy looking at your wonderful collection thank you for all the good videos. Don’t sweat your detractors and complainers .
Great review and great audio!
Never was a fan of henry with the pot metal receivers and rounded flats on the barrels. But the single shot might be something to buy if it's all steel.
I like the SS too
The brass big boy receivers attract a magnet. Not all pot metal...methinks must be some steel in there as well.
I own the 38/357 case harden 20 its my favorite gun and i love it!!
I've been wanting that Henry Single Shot in 45-70, they are impossible to find right now, lots of guns are. But I am guessing the recall may something to do with that as well.
Only thing bad I have to say about my side gate 30-30 is the obnoxious heavy trigger. I’m a huge trigger snob and it drives me nuts😂
Hi there - I hear you - people write me about long and uncertain trigger pull adventures. Maybe they're improving. I hope so.
Don't buy a H&R single shot then. Worst trigger ever. Yes, ever.
I tend to focus on older Winchester Lever Guns, but also own and shoot Marlin and Henry levers in various calibers. Frankly, I love all of them.
They are a great resource of information!!
.
Hi Dan - Will do - thanks for the suggestion and your kind words. All the best for 2022!
Now that real Marlins have become unobtainium, Henry has become the "working man's" American-made levergun. Hey, somebody had to fill the void!
Good job. Very helpful info.
You make a great video always
Any thoughts on the ergonomics of the straight vs pistol grip of the rifles?
Hi Adam - The pistol grip was designed to allow the shooter to more easily pull the gun into the shoulder and hold up with one hand. Those advantages remain. I'll take the pistol grip. Take care Adam.
I love Henry and I love tube fed tbh it’s quicker if u really times it trust me getting those in as a beginner
Been wanting to pick up a henry single shot 45/70 with the steel receiver just so hard to find at the moment. They have a brass one at a local shop but that's not my style. Your 3030 is a legacy model now that they are putting loading gates on all their steel frame lever guns.
Thanks for letting me know captain - I think I'll keep this one - kind of cool and the accuracy is amazing.
In a perfect world wouldn’t any “Shooter” own a 30-30 lever action of whatever the make in his or her collection ?, nice review on the Henry 👌🏻😎
You chose well.
Great video, thumbs up and subcribed, keep 'em coming.
Color case hardening really looks good on that rifle. I would like to see Henry produce a 22 with the same case hardened receiver.
I am waiting for Henry to do a Mares Leg Big Boy with color case hardened receiver and side gate!! 😍
i was hoping you could research how to prevent accidental lockup when using the key-lock hammer on rossi 92 and similar.....i would like to know if it is illegal to use glue or locktight or? to disable that function due to the horrible disablement/inconvenience that arises if the action gets cycled and the result is tool-blocked seize
I would choose. Remington made Marlin 1895 CB 45-70 with the 18.5” octagonal barrel. 6+1 rounds. Henry’s seem to be so popular in 2022 but a Remington made Marlin 2016 or newer is a superb Marlin levergun.
You need to find the new Henry with the side gates, saw on other videos, I have the same Marlin and an old Henry Big Boy.
Hi Jody - They're good - I like the side gate and still like the tube drop simplicity. Interesting company : Henry - they seem to have a unique way of doing things. Thanks for the note.
