    Jake is a really good farm hand. I know it's just a small detail, but when they went to check the chickens the next day and the water dish needed a change. Jake just grabbed it and did it without hesitation. I'm sure one of the reasons FLAIR thinks raising chickens sucks is because of the small things you have to do to every day. Big shout outs to farmhand Jake!

    flair for the those red bulbs you have to keep them at least 8 inches from the shavings or else it could catch them on fire because of the heat, the box they come in tells you how far away they need to be so hopefully you see this.

  • @zackattack7864
    @zackattack7864 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The thought behind red lights are that animals can’t see the color so it doesn’t disturb them as much as a normal light so you can leave it on all night and they can still sleep and have a day night cycle but get heat at the same time the heat comes down to the wattage so you probably got a higher wattage bulb in the red

    Use hardware cloth for creature proofing your chicken run. It’s 1/2” square steel wire fencing. Tough stuff. Much stronger than stretchy chicken wire. Raccoons and opossums can’t reach thru. Enjoy your vids.

    It is spring, meaning breeding season for most animals. Camels are known to kill donkeys and Carlos is little also. With Carlos wanting to breed Ralph, Ralph could end up killing him. To protect Carlos from himself you should move Carlos and the donkeys by themselves. Carlos can also breed the donkeys, ending up with a miniature mule. They can inner breed. Just don't let Carlos get killed. He's a very cute miniature horse

    I'd recommend keeping the turkeys separate. I'm told the chicken starter feed doesn't have enough protein to support the turkeys and that chicken feces that may cross contaminate is very harmful for turkeys. Just what I've been told, might improve the survival rate.

    Spike a small section of slim Jim on the trap. Cover that with peanut butter. Recipe rats can’t refuse. Also, plant mint around where you don’t want rodents. Put in containers if you are concerned about the mint spreading.

    Flair you are going to have to do something about the top of the cage. Coons will just scale up the side and under the trap top. Bye-bye birdies. Yes, rats eat chicks put a lid on the tank.Glue traps are okay once they have one part of the body stuck on the trap they fight to get off and usually end up with everything stuck in it. Rats climb well too.

    You totally need to do a self-portrait on an 8x10 sheet of paper picture of your faces. Tape them up on a stick overlooking the cage. They will imprint on you. If they are there 24/7. Remove the sticks and play with them. Playing light music in the background natural sounds or other soothing music keeps them relaxed.

    Hey flair. Put chungus dog cage in the fenced in area and put laying boxes in there by your house so you can close it up at night when the chickens go in to roost

    Tootsie rolls are great for mouse/rat traps. They can't just lick it off like peanut butter. They have to bite it and their teeth will get stuck and set off the trap.

    Flair I actually love bottoms!! I actually have some coming sometime here in may!! They don’t even eat a 1/3 of what a full size chicken eats witch saves a bunch of food to buy and there eggs I think taste so much richer than a regular chicken eggs do!! The bottom eggs are probably close to half the size of a regular chicken egg!!! Plus the battums that we used to have in the past were way more friendly than big chickens!!!

    Nice job Andrew. Having chickens will be the bomb. Free eggs. Plus meat if you need it and pest control all in one. My Brother in law had chickens for a long time and you never seen a tick or ants around his place. Plus they did cut the fly and mosquito population down also.

    If you want good egg layers. Get golden comets! They are great egg layers. That's mainly what I have and I'm getting 3 dozen eggs per night. And they are very friendly too!

    Just a little tip for you on your rat trap if you take a bread tie and completely take the stuff off of it to where it's just the wire and you take a piece of chocolate and you wrap that chocolate around the setting mechanism with the wire once they go to eat the chocolate it automatically sets off on them so they can't just steal your bait but peanut butter works too and that's for the rats

    If you want more success with the fly trap put it in the caged area. I have put the same fly traps in my duck coop and it works wonderfully for a week. I would also recommend going to rural king, last time I went There was a lot of ducks and chick's, There are also many different breeds of birds like pheasants.

    I bought a big plastic rat trap from lowes it was soooo easy to set you just squeezed the one end & it had like teeth on the end it trapped it with. It worked soooo good to catch them!! It was more expensive than the wooden ones like $6 but it was sooo easy & convenient!
