@Heroinsniffer4life Well don't have to worry about that. And being that she has never lost a Kenpo tournament she would kick your ass for saying that..and so would her military husband,,,
As a poultry breeder, I would look at a few important areas to correct that should help you greatly. You are correct with live shipping being a problem through regular mail is a BIG issue for fragile little baby birds. The stress on them going through that system is too much very often, BUT, another big issue going through the post is another issue I think you are having when they get into your setup, and that is temperature fluctuation. It is not only important to get them to a specific temp, it is greatly important to keep them consistently at the optimum temp. Your continual temperature fluctuations are very likely the root of all your issues and your set up has a lot to do with why you are struggling. Also, the reason you didn't see so many dropped birds with your chicken chicks is that they are typically the hardiest of what you are trying to raise and they didn't get shipped so no added stress. With those open tubs and no insulation around the side walls, being in a large open garage type space, the surrounding temp fluctuates and the lamps can't keep up. Not only to keep things warm but to prevent overheating too. I personally would build a ply surround with lift up lids to put those tubs into and raise them off the floor with wooden blocks to stop the cold coming up through the floor. they are pretty easy to knock up, relatively cheap and they also prevent pests coming in and you can mount your lamps on a mesh lid to prevent burns when the bubs get older and start to jump about. to stabalise the temp you can stuff hay or straw (we use wool shawn off our sheep when we have it) to insulate between the tubs and the ply. Get a good infrared thermometer gun, to take the temp of where the birds are at and make sure you have a slightly cooler side for when they start to self regulate but only cooler by max of 5 degrees C (sorry I'm a kiwi so don't use farenheit). Hope that helps and there are always going to be weaker birds that just don't make it, but the numbers you are loosing, are really higher that I'd like to see if they were mine, as each lost chick, poult, keet etc is a financial loss too. Oh and in the future, maybe look into hatching eggs with a broody, as she will take care of a lot of this stuff for you lol.
@@moosenbeans903 girl but thanks lmao. We been thru this learning curve 15 years ago so know how frustrating it can be. Just hope it's of some use to someone
@Scott Fischer good luck it's an awesome journey! It has many learning curves and the best advice I ever got was that when there is live stock there will inevitably be dead stock, it is the natural way of things and not to be too hard on yourself. Just take each death and see if there is something you can change to help avoid more of the same and if not accept it as a sad fact of life but don't dwell. It's helped me a great deal thru the years. You will do great tho, just have fun, it's an exciting adventure
I don’t think anyone realizes how big of a legend flair is the best part is this man ain’t even out his 20s keep it up big dawg your videos are immaculate
For owl defense (luckily you already have it) you can use crow decoys. Owls natural enemy in the wild is a crow. So if you get some old crow decoys and fence them around the ranch (not directly as it could scare the ducks/geese). This will scare the owl thinking it is out numbered and might get killed as that is what a group of crows (or a "murder") will do to a owl. Also Google other natural owl defense, I'm sure there is a lot.
@@fauxque5057 that's why there is a fence (and dogs that roam free everywhere (Lucy and millie)), he is more concerned with air attacks, which is why I am suggesting a less expensive and natural owl deterrent.
Man you have came a long way since the kid that was yelling at other boaters “you don’t own the water bro!”😂😂 Your daughter is beautiful and looks just like you. Keep doing ya thing bro
Hey flair, I’ve ordered a batch of 34 laying hen chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery and only two died. That was my fault because I had a bad heat lamp setup and they huddled too close. I got the option where I vaccinated them for everything from the hatchery, I would recommend that hatchery and to get them vaccinated. Also if you get them vaccinated do not feed medicated feed because it will cancel one of the vaccines out. Also pick up right when the chicks get to the mail if possible because they are born, packed up, and shipped. They only have the nutrients left over from what they got from the yolk so the sooner they get food and water the better. Also make sure they’re not huddling too close and suffocating each other under the heat lamp.
What a dad flair big shout out to you for doing what ya love man from rasing ban joes kids on the farm lol to being a great dad to Brooklyn I can’t believe how far you’ve came in the TH-cam career thanks for another vid🤙🏼
Flair @ approx 1:40mins; have you considered putting a 'dog-bed heater' pad under the trough/chick-run containers? I don't know if it will work, but...it might be the strat! Elsewise (Flair, I know that I'm using words that are strange to you, but bear with me 😜) could you get a thermocouple device (thermostat for the layperson) that senses that the temp is too low, then it kicks on a secondary heat-lamp, but then shuts off Before you start to cook the chicks (I know that word again, Thermostat, like in your house) hook that up, or just the dog-bed heater pad! I think either will work, but I'm leaning towards the thermostat answer! But you are going to do Flair things, and I refuse to be responsible for any misdesicions! But keep posting awesome, and sometimes absolutely ridiculous videos!
I work for TSC, and the birds we sell come to us in the mail too. Most likely, the store already got rid of the birds that didn’t make it. So the ones you bought were resilient. We have strict protocols on bird handling to try and prevent casualties but unfortunately it’s going to happen sometimes. Good luck sir! Keep up the good work!
Hey Flair try this to keep the arial predators from getting the birds. Tie multiple fishing lines from tree to tree or post to post a couple feet above the enclosure (crossing them) . It will prevent them from diving in. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Great video and congratulations on all the new birds ! Sheew Daddy strapped with baby Brooklyn on his chest is priceless !! I sure hope she becomes a little country girl !! Love it .. keep up the great videos ! 👍
Coming from someone that worked at a CAL Ranch. It’s like Tractor supply. Whenever we would get a shipment of birds, there were many dead ones upon arrival and then tons the first week. Then the rest were solid and would almost always live once bought. The first few days of their life decides if they’re gonna survive. If they don’t lie then they’ll survive. If they die then they die. And going through mail give lots of stress. So the store goes through all the week ones for you. Long story short, it’s better to buy birds from the store.
This is probably the first video I’ve watched in 8 months. I watched every single one before that. And it’s so crazy seeing his animals interact with him now and how different they are.
Lovely to see your little one in the video. I've been watching since 2016 so it's been an excellent journey with you and your channel. Keep up the good work Flair and the Beefcake crew
For fly control They make a product that you can mix in the animals feed and when they poop it out it prevents the flys from laying eggs in the manure.
Flair man you are killing it bro, keep going bro. Really liked seeing you with baby Brooklyn, nice to see that side of you. My wife, kids and I always sit down and watch your videos on the big 70inch tv, they love all your animals. Brooklyn is very cute and you can see she finds the farm engaging as all heck. Cant wait to see her grow up and work with daddy on the farm. You need to video taking her for her first pair of farming boots when shes able to walk and run around the farm with a little cow girl hat. You have a wonderful family and amazing crew(extended family), love the content and always looking forward to your videos.
To improve your outcomes with birds id suggest a couple of things to make it easier for you to care for them. 1- remote thermometer 2- a remote cut off for your lamps 3- more air flow during the day
Tinfoil blanket around the top to help keep the heat in at night. Get the hole thing up off the cold concrete with a couple of 2/4. Put a shipping blanket around it with a couple of zip tie around it , to hold it up to the top.
I used insulation to hold temps inside the brooder. Also used seed heating mats on a plug timer to warm the brooder extra at night. Then you can keep lamp further away.
The baby will never forget this. And calling her buddy is priceless. She will appreciate that later in life
I call my daughter buddy also, and she likes to ride motorcycles go fishing shoot guns and go to the races...makes me a proud papa.
@Heroinsniffer4life Well don't have to worry about that. And being that she has never lost a Kenpo tournament she would kick your ass for saying that..and so would her military husband,,,
