Trapattoni - subtitled

  • TO THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP SAYING THAT THE SUBTITLES ARE WRONG: DON'T YOU GET IT, of course they are wrong! I tried to translate his errors as good as I could to show people who don't speak German why the whole thing was so awesome. For the most part, his words were German, but grammar and word order were Italian and I tried to transfer that more or less 1:1 into English. And no, I am not trying to make fun of Trapattoni. This press conference was brilliant, it took a lot of courage to do what he did with the little German he knew. And it had the effect he was going for.
And by the way, criticism is always welcome and I am not saying that I am not making any mistakes. But please, some comments, really now, you want to talk about my errors but you can't get even one English sentence right yourself? Anyway, why bother... this is fun and I had fun making it and I hope some people have fun watching it.
The famous press conference, March 10th 1998. Subtitled for all who always wondered what he was saying. Or trying to say. I tried to keep the translation as close as I could to what he said in German. It's hard to translate all the errors adequately though.

They had lost 0-1 to Schalke two days before and did not play well at all, but some players still were looking for cheap excuses. Trapp was tired of hearing that excuses and talked very emotinally and effective, but with a heavy load of grammatical errors, but still it was a perfect summary.

I have just finished to read his autobiography: "Non dire gatto" (i.e. "Don't say cat").
I don't know if there are translations from italian available but I recommend It because it's beautyful. The love for football comes out from every single line of every single page and It has brought me back to the glorious years when italian football was ruling.
From his childhood days till the last adventure in Ireland, a Life spent in the name of this beautyful game.
He launched so many players that, in time, have become legends of this sport and has been able to win everywhere.
Never slave to Money, a man whose handshake was worth a signed contact.

The truth is that Trapattoni arrived in Germany elderly, and had the respect for trying to speak that difficult language. While Michael Schumacher has been in Italy for ten years and has never been able to speak (even badly) Italian, the same thing for many foreign sportsmen in Italy, see Ronaldo, who has been in Italy for years and doesn't say a single word in Italian. Respect for Trapattoni.
