- At the height of World War II, Eleanor Roosevelt befriends Soviet sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko and tours the United States with her.
About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation’s history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It’s just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

My favorite Lyudmila quote. She was asked by a stupid reporter, "What do you feel when you shoot a man?" Her answer was, "The recoil."
ha!
@Elizabeth Davies try holding it correctly.
@Elizabeth Davies you have to hold it firm against your shoulder so that it doesn't have any room to jump into your shoulder. You kind of want it to be a part of your body. Shotguns do kick good though.

Don't get me wrong I'm no big fan of "pro Russia alt right propaganda" but this is the story of a woman who had 309 confirmed kills against Nazis and, in my eyes, in no way glorifies alt right thinking.
I heard of this story years ago. It was a pleasant surprise that they reenacted a little known but significant story.

Paget Brewster is gifted in the art of drunk story telling. Her episodes are my favorite.
I love Eleanor Roosevelt, " No one can make you feel inferior without your consent"
"... but you'd be a fool to withhold that from your superiors."
Lyudmila and Eleanor were a thing
Eleanor was bisexual.. so yeah..they probably had a sexual relationship.
Ed So Sorry, but your reasoning of "Eleanor Roosevelt was bi therefore her relationship with Lyudmila was probably sexual" makes no sense. Eleanor being bi in no way makes the second claim a guarantee. That's the same thing as saying "this woman is straight therefore her relationship with this man is sexual". I'm not saying that their relationship wasn't sexual (I personally love the idea of these 2 bad asses getting it on), but automatically assuming it was, purely based on the sexuality of one of the people involved, is illogical
@@sarahburckle9441I said "PROBABLY"... either you can't read or you don't understand what "probably" means. get a life.

I love how Paget Brewster and Emily Prentiss are literally the same person. I can totally imagine her as Emily Prentiss telling stories drunk to the BAU team lol
This is how I found out about Lyudmila a few years back. She quickly became a huge source if strength and inspiration for me, and she still is. It is one of my dreams to honor her spirit through art in an extraordinary way. Maybe one day you will see what i will create for her. I'll come back here when it is ready. Stay Strong everyone.

I'm sure Eleanor REALLY liked traveling the country with that young female sniper.... 😉
Good for her!!!!
What are you hinting at?
They're lesbians Herold! 😂

carrrrrpet munchiiing.....
There’s a great movie about her, “Battle for Sevastopol”. Although the battle itself is not shown at all, the movie shows her life before and during the war. It’s less of a historically accurate movie, but still conveys the spirit. And the actress is great.
Damn this made me feel proud to be a woman. That’s fucking awesome. Why haven’t I heard of this woman in school?
Because of the Cold War and Red scare
Marvee78 what about outside of America?
Because the United States government hates communists
I read that as "why haven't I heard of this in woman school?
Idk, maybe Alexander the great and Chengus Khan other old stuffy dudes who did greater things (yeah like a million years ago, after they've had plenty of time to make it up into legend but still, she killed half a thousand men, and Alexander and Chengus took over pretty much the entire old world between them) take up all the time that you have for history? You gotta understand that they only have so many years, and even then, that's a 1/4 of your full day, so in total they have 3 years worth of actual days, then take off each weekend, plus holidays, and THEN they have to split that into so many periods after the first 5 years, and before that splitting, your teacher would've rationed time for each subject.
That's the literal reason why, but I have a feeling you, or some of the people who will or have commented before or after me wanted a "Men r stinky sexists and they solely control the education system and they all work in unity to bring down women in history despite ( at least Californian) teachers trying their hardest to put more women in their history."
but honestly there's only a few that I've known that did anything really significant on the world scale that weren't crown royalty, compare this Russian sharp shooter to the white death and she pales in comparison (pun intended) if you want to know why more men are featured in history in school, it's because they have a tendency to stir the international pot more, and I'm sure most Russians (bigass country, and Pacific Russia is significantly different from Baltic Russia) are learning about her, so it's also probably a regional thing, I mean we all know about Amelia Earhardt (is that how you spell it?) In America, but many of my Egyptian and Arab (don't make me get into the whole "is Egypt Arabian or African" discussion, very historically complicated but tbh they're honestly basically European) friends don't know who she is at all.

Paget Brewster sober is awesome. Drunk Paget Brewster might be the best thing ever.
I never understood why it is considered such a big deal about her appartment being small. Like, do US War veterans get mansions for their service or what?
Exactly. US Veterans have historically been, and continue to be treated poorly. It's not right, but it's weird to emphasize it as though it's specifically some injustice in the Soviet Union.
No they get drunk and sad, but then get recruited by their old army captain for a secret mission only they can pull off because they are the best. That's what Hollywood tells us.
Living in Moscow is already an achievement (at that time, either way, it was the epicenter for trade and politics, plus, it's veryyy expensive)

They made a movie about her called "Battle for Sevastopol" I thought it was pretty good.
HairyDiablo132 also there’s a woody guthrie song about her that’s pretty cool
_Battle for Sevastopol_ was full of historical inaccuracies, unrealistic combat, and a forced fictional love triangle. It reminded me of Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor except with more disjointed editing and a smaller budget.
And the sections in America were so distracting. It was so obvious that all the English speaking actors except the woman who plays Eleanor Roosevelt were dubbed.
