Great video and cool layout. Also nice to have somebody else do some switching in N scale. Switching sessions on YT seem to be H0 scale 90% of the time. Would love to get an engine with sound myself at some point - maybe even a SD40-2. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Ah, the SD40-2 - some of best sounds come from that loco!

I just saw a comment about the stutter in the SD40’s by @jrbokleman. “There is an error in the default programming of the decoder CV52 or BEMF K slow. It should be set higher than CV54 by 5-10. CV 54 was set to 35 and CV 52 set to 20. It should have a higher value. Just change CV52 to something north of CV54 by 5-10 and it should smooth out nicely” just thought I’d share

appreciate the information. i don't seem to have much stutter now, but i'll check the CVs out just to see. i did test the resetting of the BEMF on one of them and didn't see a difference so i'm curious to see what 52 and 54 read now.

Was surprised to see Altoona Pipe & Steel. I live in the nearby town of Duncansville.
Want to get a layout going at some point. Probably HO or N.
Had the O Scale up around the Christmas Tree. First time out of the boxes since I got it for my son back in 1998.

That was a good video. I liked the different angles you filmed the session. Just something about a Southern loco long nose forward. Thanks for sharing. 😎😎 👍

thanks. i tried to focus more on the angles than showing the switching job - wanted to focus as much as possible on the locos and the scenery.

Did you need to speed match the two at all? And how do they speed match with other Scaletrains locomotives?

These two run together without any speed matching. they ran the layout separated for 4 hours during break-in and never caught up to each other. I haven't tried pairing them with the other ST locos yet.

How long is the break in period to get them running smooth?

Mine ran about 4 hours which admittedly is a lot. they probably calmed down in the first hour or so though. I did mess with the CVs as some folks had recommended, but i didn't notice any significant improvement in operation.

Great looking engines! Your videos of the layout are inspiring. Have the locos smoothed out for you after their extensive break in?
