Everyone keeps talking about gaming on the go as the important factor of portables and everyone is gaming on their bed 95% of the time. No offense btw, it is not your fault.
I think the size and ease of use just makes it more comfortable for controller players. I get to play games tons more than I did with an Xbox because I have more options of time and setting of when you want to play

Thank you for pointing out there's performance increases... People keep saying there's none just because there's a new chip. My fun fact is how the memory transfer speed increase actually improves battery life because the cpu can go to sleep mode more of the time instead of waiting for the memory as much. Heavier games with memory bandwidth needs are going to get that improvement frequently. This will be my first steam deck and I'm so excited. Only 10 days left for me to get mine. As someone that picked up a steam link when they were $5 (or maybe even free?) it's cool to see that technology come to fruition in such a different scenario - docking a portable gaming pc onto a TV.
Exactly. Folks who don't understand technology don't realize there's a handshake relationship among components in a system. The more positive those handshakes are, the better the overall system performance is.
Agreed on all points. I watched probably 20 reviews trying to figure out if I needed an OLED when I already have and love my LCD. 1:20 this is true on PC as well. Oled is just crazy fast in response times and motion clarity. It can be the same frame rate and it will feel much better

Handheld PCs from major hardware brands seem to miss the mark, primarily because of Windows' reliability issues, like those constant updates. Plus, the lack of a dedicated UI at the operating system level, similar to SteamOS, really detracts from the user experience. Don't get me wrong, the hardware is top-notch - these companies excel in manufacturing. However, there's a real need for them to invest in software development to create intuitive user interfaces tailored for handheld devices. Or, alternatively, they could urge Microsoft to adapt, maybe by developing a lightweight mobile OS specifically for handheld PCs. But it will probably never happen since it's Microsoft we're talking about.

I when to get my car serviced and brought my Steam Deck OLED with me; I when there at 10 am and came out at 2:19 pm (damn slow, I know). After the Subaru inspection and service, my steam deck went down from 100% to 22% battery left. During my waiting period, I played Rogue Genesia (about an hour and 10 minutes run). Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (an hour and 20 minutes or so) and Armor Core 6 (32 minutes). I watched a few episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 (48 minutes) and Spy Family season 2 (24 min). I worried the deck might tap out for a while, but it was surprisingly resilient compared to my Steam Deck LCD, as it often dies in about 2 hours or so in most games. To my surprise, I was very impressed by how long it lasted. I forgot about the battery bank. I left it in the car glovebox, too. My Steam Deck OLED is on the -50mV undervolt. Screen brightness is on auto and Bluetooth earbuds. I often enabled sleep mode whenever they called me to discuss the vehicle's results and repairs.
I know, this will be quite niche.. but i would like to see the new oled SD to be running darktable. For simplicity reasons: it's a free open source Linux native program like lightroom classic. With the SD Dock this could really replace working laptops/stationary PCs for gaming enthusiasts who are also photographers who edit their photos for work.
I think the OLED is worth it if you have the extra money to spend or it's going to be the main way you play. I primarily play on my OLED TV, the handhelds are for being away from home or if I just want to game in bed or another room. I love the look of OLED screens, but personally can't justify spending that much money to upgrade to OLED models. I still have my Switch from 2017 and I just bought a used LCD Steam Deck on eBay for like $314 + tax.
I agree with your take on this. A lot of reviewers mention how great the upgrades are, but does it justify another $500 if you already have a Steam Deck? Probably not.
Screens are important yes, but audio is easily more important for a great experience. It's always underrated. I played through TLOU on a pair of Presonus Sceptre S6 back in the day and it was amazing. Could feel everything in my bones 😂
There is a smaller slimmer case Inside the OLED carrying case that you can take out. It’s held with Velcro and I use it all the time and I’ve had it since launch and I’m always on the go. NO ISSUES!
@@MalikKhiljiravengaminghell yeah bro, I bought a sling bag on Amazon and it fits my oled with the case and my switch. With other things and it’s not even FAT it’s great!
I bought Deck day 1 and Deck OLED day 2. It's amazing. Same for Switch and Switch OLED. Those two systems are the ONLY ones I play anymore. Legit regret buying a PS5, XSX and $4,000 gaming PC, as I don't use them at all. Ever. For anything.
I'm sure you're 100% correct, however there's a small caveat to this video when talking about the screen: some of these comparisons are made at an angle, which is a known weakness of LCD, but also an extremely unlikely use case for a handheld, unlike a TV or a PC monitor.
OLED is great, but it’s not worth buying an entirely new deck. Maybe rich people who don’t care about money but I’m your avg middle class and my LCD looks just fine. Especially since a recent steamOS update added better contrast making the colours pop a lot more. Games look great to me…the better upgrade is the battery on this OLED… still not enough to upgrade if you already have a deck though…
This video says OBVIOUS things. Of course oled is better. BUT, if you already have a Steamdeck LCD you should think about it more. The LCD model with last update has much better and vibrant color. I have very better results than what you see here, 7.4 inches VS 7 is nice but not a game changer. You see the difference only when compared, in game experience you don’t think about how much red is the “red”… you just play. When I bought a Switch oled to replace my lcd one, of course it was better, but my enjoyment of games didn’t change. So imo, if you have to buy a Steamdeck, buy the oled one. If you already have an lcd one, do it only if you use it a lot, if you have money and if colors/battery life for you is so important.
I got it for the oled. but the thing that was the biggest improvement to me after using it for awhile was the wight, it dosent sound like it would make that much of a difference but before my wrist would start hurting after a hour or so, now I can go at least 3 hours
I'm on the fence of getting the steam deck oled but most of the games I play are not compatible with it like online cod, fortnite, and garden warfare lol
Problem is, it's same deck specs, so you won't be able to play triple a titles, the screen is too small and it's no windows. It's also not easely available, like scandinavia contries, forget about it.
10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
I play Triple-A Titles all the time. How dare I!. And that it's not windows is in the fact just fine. SteamOS is a dream of usability compared to anything you can tinker with windows.
Anyone received an oled recently that had a start up notification saying congratulations you got one of the first oled models and so on? I've had it about a week and I thought they've been out for a few months now so maybe I got one from the back of a warehouse
Saw a video today of someone not being able to play Starfield at 30fps even at lowest settings... I love the idea of having a steam deck...but I'd rather just buy a gaming laptop. More expensive, less portable, but way more powerful. Don't have to worry about certain games just running poorly a lot of the time.
Man, so happy SD exists. I’m playing so much more now that i own one. It even motivated me to sometimes play on my ps5 for true next gen games like alan wake 2.
I got mine for Christmas (Santa was good) after having the normal one for 1,5 years. Some games looks like a brand new experience on the oled version and the sound quality is improved. But no screen cloth and the little mesh bag for the charger 😢
64gb lcd model is already too expensive. i'll just buy the lcd model, i honestly dont see much difference between oled and lcd, they both look beautiful to me
Seeing both I can safely say it’s not worth selling your LCD for this. If you don’t have one yet then yes, cool device. But don’t waste your cash on a new one.
I'm sorry man, but in the Footage of the thermal test you have the OLED's exhaust blowing hot air in the direction of the LCD's intake, I hope that is not the methodology that got u those numbers favoring the OLED.
How is it that this case is already unavailable to buy on that Amazon link? Lol for them wanting you to sponsor it, it would help if it was available to actually buy 😄
Ya lol it's a damn shame because this 1 specific case you happen to show is the one I want comparing it to others simply because the bulkiness, damn... lol 😂
Personally the deck is my favorite piece of hardware, but in its current form its just got too many compromises. I have to jump through so many hoops to play the games I want because they aren't on steam, and a lot of AAA games are getting ~40fps while the ally/go can get 70+
After all, coming from a SD user, I respect your opinion. It’s not for everyone. I enjoyed my time with the Ally but I can’t bring myself to like it due to Windows regardless of hardware. Microsoft is really holding them back for me unless if Microsoft themselves make a handheld edition of Windows.
OLED is not enough to convince me to go back to a Steam Deck and dump my Ally. I'll just wait for next year's Ally with a stronger chip.. hopefully it'll go OLED as well
I can’t afford the new oled model, so I just bought the 512gb lcd model for $300. Is it still a good machine? Should I have waited until I could afford the oled or is the lcd model still great?
I got my oled 512gb a few weeks back and I got a dead pixel I am so annoyed , don't want to send it back and go through the terrible delivery I had in UK ( they left my parcel unattended and I had to rush from work to see if it wasn't stolen)
If steam deck is plug all the time to charge do it affect or shorter battery life or its ok,like with laptops?😅 or better to charge it till 95% and unplug it like phone
I don’t care much about the screen honestly. Looking between Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Deck has better battery and seamless experience but ROG Ally is slimmer, looks better, and natively runs PC games
i've used both pretty extensively, and you hit the big points exactly right. IMHO it comes down most to which games you want to play most. if the steam deck has the games you want, i much prefer it, but if it cant run the games, then its an easy choice.
@@sam.alexander.reviews I don’t know it’s still not an easy choice for me mainly because of the battery and the SD card issues. Coming from Nintendo switch, the steam deck still opens up a lot of games for me but yeah, still restricted a little bit.
I have LCD and legion GO, friend has OLED. He is jealous of the GO performance and screen, and GO is louder too using fxsounds. GO is I it's in it's baby stage, just like the steam deck at launch, remember how horrible it was at launch?
Yup, in a year the go will be amazing, also the go will probably have a version 2 and the Ally as well. If they can get better performance at lower tdp, its over for valve
Got yall with the iphone n akai method the oled still underperforms compared to the Ally and the Go.. didnt they do the same thing with the switch. I could never he that into a device that a screen change would make me buy it twice nope shouldve did it from the start.
What HDR settings do you have for rdr2, I don't understand how to configure it properly, it looks kinda washed out when enable.. what to put for the peak brightness and white points? Also do I have to set the brightness at max in the steam menu? Because when I enable HDR, the slider isn't at max...
Rdr2 is one of those games, were the implementation of hdr sucks. When the game was console exclusive digital foundry made a video about the bad hdr in that game. I recommend not to use it
@@PLA.net-DANTE oh really? I got an Oled steam deck thinking rdr2 would look good in HDR but it looks way better in SDR so I thought I wasn't doing it good..
I have yet to open my 512 GB OLED because I have heard there are issues with the current Stable Update 3.5.7. What version do you use and is it safe to open mine?
No this thing is not it for gaming on the go I prefer something that actually fits in my pockets like the GPD win Mini. Not to mention the steam deck is so dated it can't run Triple A games properly. I was living in a bubble when I had my steam deck that once I got my GPD win mini I felt like I was missing out and I never looked back. I rather cough up a few extra dollars and get all the extra performance and added benefits of having a more powerful machine
As far as pricing goes. If you're already willing to buy the oled get the ROG ally. It's eons above what the OLED model could do and it also boasts a much more powerful chip and a 1080p screen at 120hz. Is it oled? no. But it does not make me miss OLED all that much on a low resolution screen. Not trying to hate the oled at all I've had one myself and I couldn't justify keeping it and not trying the Ally for myself. The fact that I also don't have to leap hoops and hurdles to just download battlenet or Ubi launcher etc. makes it that much better and it's W11 ecosystem is eons better imho. Performs better than the oled deck and by like a lot. Almost twice the frame rate with similar if not sometimes even higher settings.
It will also die after an hour of use at those settings. On paper the ROG Ally seems like a good choice but practicality purposes the steam deck wins in ease of use, battery life, and visuals.
@@GwapRs Visuals??? Ease of use? IDK what you mean by those by Ease of use goes hands down to a windows device no matter what you're talking about. Compatibility and far less hurdles to jump just to make a common app work on the linux based steamos. There are 30 more steps to playing non steam games and hoping that it's compatible with Linux without dual boot system that, you guessed it, eventually winds up with playing on Windows. Visually it's inferior by a mile when you break down how low the resolution and weaker the processor is when the Ally, at the same settings the deck would push, could push out almost double the performance and even play the games the deck just can't at all. Higher refresh rates and the best you get out the deck is the oled and that's barely under the z1 price. Bang for buck and ease of use for ANY gamer/user, goes to the ally by a mile.

I'm sure you're 100% correct, however there's a small caveat to this video when talking about the screen: some of these comparisons are made at an angle, which is a known weakness of LCD, but also an extremely unlikely use case for a handheld, unlike a TV or a PC monitor.
yeah thats a good point! i should have done a better job filming, lots of things to think about
OLED is great, but it’s not worth buying an entirely new deck. Maybe rich people who don’t care about money but I’m your avg middle class and my LCD looks just fine. Especially since a recent steamOS update added better contrast making the colours pop a lot more. Games look great to me…the better upgrade is the battery on this OLED… still not enough to upgrade if you already have a deck though…
yeah agreed, i woudn't have upgraded if i didnt have this channel
SteamOS 3.5 didn’t improve the contrast, it added a saturation slider. The LCD deck still has awful contrast and
This video says OBVIOUS things. If you already have an lcd one, do it only if you use it a lot, if you have money and if colors/battery life for you is so important.
already bought it week 1. having a blast on it
No problems?
I am tempted.... but I already have an ally, and a normal 512gb steam deck 😨😨
What game is that at 2:30? Thanks for your video, can't wait to get mine!

So excited! Mine is on the wat!
Problem is, it's same deck specs, so you won't be able to play triple a titles, the screen is too small and it's no windows. It's also not easely available, like scandinavia contries, forget about it.
I play Triple-A Titles all the time. How dare I!. And that it's not windows is in the fact just fine. SteamOS is a dream of usability compared to anything you can tinker with windows.
Exactly get an rog or legion go instead
It’s absolutely beatable. In fact the Rog Ally pretty much destroys it.
When playing game turn off hdr. At the setting so the hdr is active. Pc hdr still sucks its not automatically
but that 550 price tag...
Yup, rather buy a beast Ps5 for that money
@@SWOTHDRAspelled PC wrong
Both of those items came with mine, did you get 1tb?
No 512gb.@@Joe-qd7kd
64gb lcd model is already too expensive. i'll just buy the lcd model, i honestly dont see much difference between oled and lcd, they both look beautiful to me
How does emulation feel between the two? Is the OLED better?
ehh, pretty similar in my opinion, the OLED jjust looks a lot better
I can’t wait for the steam deck 2. The size is too much for me
Here, in Ukraine OLED version is 40-50% more expensive. But if you're in Europe or US, sure, OLED version is way better compared to the price
It's not really that big a deal, you can still play the same game.
With much less battery, and much worse colors
How is it that this case is already unavailable to buy on that Amazon link? Lol for them wanting you to sponsor it, it would help if it was available to actually buy 😄
lol what??? thats dumb, i just looked for a new link and couldn't find it :(
Ya lol it's a damn shame because this 1 specific case you happen to show is the one I want comparing it to others simply because the bulkiness, damn... lol 😂
great video! does anyone know the game that’s on screen at 2:29? it looks super cool!

Heard currently the OLED models have audio issue..
What framerate was Elden Ring getting in your uncapped battery test?
avg: 37, high 50-, low 30 (roughly) but thats with the high default settings, if you drop the settings to low you get much better FPS
@@sam.alexander.reviews not bad thank you
ya the the lcd did get really hot, it would start to hurt my hand after a while
Personally the deck is my favorite piece of hardware, but in its current form its just got too many compromises. I have to jump through so many hoops to play the games I want because they aren't on steam, and a lot of AAA games are getting ~40fps while the ally/go can get 70+
I agree 100% i love my OLED sd but I always end up playing games on my lego.
I feel that. I've spent the entire day troubleshooting one thing after another, the entire time thinking I could've just been on my PSPortal.
If only valve sold it outside USA... guess I'll just wait for the next model and hope it's even better.
They do? I’ve just ordered one in the UK from the UK steam store.
Here's ONE reason I won't.
They literally have banned it from my country. Won't even let you buy it on their website 😂
Idk why I’m even looking at this when I don’t even have a steam library to play even if I do decide to get one lol
You can even play pirate on deck
You can even install windows and play pirate
OLED is not enough to convince me to go back to a Steam Deck and dump my Ally. I'll just wait for next year's Ally with a stronger chip.. hopefully it'll go OLED as well
I just may buy one now 😮💨
I can’t afford the new oled model, so I just bought the 512gb lcd model for $300. Is it still a good machine? Should I have waited until I could afford the oled or is the lcd model still great?
You should have waited. I’m sorry for your loss.
LCD is good I have both only difference is battery and screen
What i said is still valid..@@Pesticide7G
I got my oled 512gb a few weeks back and I got a dead pixel I am so annoyed , don't want to send it back and go through the terrible delivery I had in UK ( they left my parcel unattended and I had to rush from work to see if it wasn't stolen)
ugh thats frustrating! :(
If steam deck is plug all the time to charge do it affect or shorter battery life or its ok,like with laptops?😅 or better to charge it till 95% and unplug it like phone
I’m wondering this too
I would guess it’s the same because battery is battery no matter what device it’s in

Im def getting one😊
I have LCD and legion GO, friend has OLED. He is jealous of the GO performance and screen, and GO is louder too using fxsounds. GO is I it's in it's baby stage, just like the steam deck at launch, remember how horrible it was at launch?
Yup, in a year the go will be amazing, also the go will probably have a version 2 and the Ally as well. If they can get better performance at lower tdp, its over for valve
the GO's performance is so rock solid, and i love the massive screen size, very immersive
I'm just watching this to stroke my ego after buying the Steamdeck OLED at launch.
bruh same, why you think i'm making it? hahah we're all the same
Got yall with the iphone n akai method the oled still underperforms compared to the Ally and the Go.. didnt they do the same thing with the switch. I could never he that into a device that a screen change would make me buy it twice nope shouldve did it from the start.
800$ is a little too much for an OLED model, I guess I'll wait for another year so the prices would drop
I have the oled a week now and my battery now does not charge over 96%?! Anybody has the same problem?
Recalibrate it. Just discharge your deck to zero and then charge to full.
I don’t :/
But I’ve had similar issues on my lcd model and running it down to 0 then charge fully to 100 fixed it for me
Is just a battery calibration
Juuuust ordered.
The price of OLED steam deck is double compared to the lcd in my country.
same and you can only get it from scalpers in mine.
if i had the option I wouldve ordered the oled version but I cant
2:36 game name pls?
upd: Soulstone Survivors
you got it :)
I got an Oled steam deck thinking rdr2 would look good in HDR but it looks way better in SDR so I thought I wasn't doing it good..
eh HDR in RD2 isn't that good, i thought i was using it but it was off, when on it was just OK. no mans sky on the other hand has fantastic HDR
I have yet to open my 512 GB OLED because I have heard there are issues with the current Stable Update 3.5.7. What version do you use and is it safe to open mine?

I'm fine with my LCD one
biggest question for me is
can i upgrade my lcd version to oled?
Uhh... don't think so. you'd be basically replacing almost everything anyway
unfortunately no :/
it has a bunch of other changes other than the screen
I'm not gonna buy an oled because I'll feel just as burned when they drop a steam deck 2
Will it be possible to swap the screens?
Nope, this was already confirmed by Valve.
unfortunately no
As far as pricing goes.
Ally has way more hurdles stop capping😅
I'd just buy a gaming laptop/PC if I'm stuck to a wall socket lol.
Yeah but how's the battery? My 512's light won't go off when fully charged now and it's quite upsetting.
What game is that in 1:50? Thank you.

@@sam.alexander.reviews Awesome. Thanks man.
People really cannot comprehend the quality of an OLED screen until they see it themselves. It sounds ridiculous but I find myself getting frustrated using LCD screens, ESPECIALLY edge lit screens. The contrast on an OLED is just insane and will spoil you. Unfortunately now I have to buy $1000+ TVs :/
couldn't agree more! now i want my 32" monitor to be OLED but.. money... lol
Or a switch
most modern cell phones have oled screens, I'm sure most can comprehend oled, you're just being dramatic about how amazing it is.
