The funniest thing is that I discovered this cut by accident while messing around on this map in the editor. After I passed the checkpoint and noticed I was ahead I probably had the biggest laugh ever playing Trackmania :D
Actually there is one course where that still holds true in trackmania. Both the mindset and in practice. Forget which one it is since I've never played and only catch some videos here.
The thing that made this shortcut not just really simple, but made everyone feel stupid, is that if you're a relatively new Trackmania player, holding the throttle and flying off the edge of a wallride is a classic _rookie mistake_ to make in any other Trackmania map. Yet Rollin smashed this record using that very same _"rookie mistake"._
Yeah but also, it’s tied into the fact that players had become really good at the map. If you’re not so fast that your speed would otherwise force you to release, it’s not actually faster. So you first have to push the absolute limit before it becomes viable.
Yeah, I DID this cut ACCIDENTALLY on my first good run on d-06, then realized "oh shit that's probably way slower" and started braking the next attempt (i crashed the lap after doing the cut)
What I think is so great about it is that this shortcut doesn't even go off the track like all the other shortcuts usually do. Most shortcuts skip from one point in the track to another in a way that wasn't really intended in the track's original design. This one doesn't do that, it's exactly how the track is designed to be played, just more hardcore.

Fun fact about this shortcut: it was actually known for a really long time among casual stunters. The problem was that it was thought to not only be way slower than the WR pace but also not really worth trying considering how easy it is to slam into a wall or just slide on landing. I remember a few friends of mine having fun doing 180s off of it and barely landing on the other side, usually turtled or flipping from the impact, and then doing replays where the camera swoops under it Speed Racer style.
Now that makes more sense, I was thinking, is just so stupidly simple that I could see it being that in the first 2 seconds, and I could see myself doing it even in accident if I didn't see just by how obvious it was, but this makes 20 times more sense, after hearing how the game works it makes sense that pro played would discard the shortcut for going against common sense.
Being the first to use a shortcut in a Speedrun is such a great feeling. I rediscovered an old TH-cam video that Showed a shortcut which I used for an any% run of Mirror's Edge and got WR and sub 30 for the first time. The most interesting part of that level is that another runner only beat my standing WR just days earlier using a different shortcut I haven't seen elsewhere. But only a few days later the competition did the shortcut better and they still keep the WR today. There are no other runners, so there is a lot of time to be saved as shortcuts to be found.
Hey curious people! In case you don't wanna go and check, the record did at some point make a 0.03s improvement and that has been it since this video. The bigger shortcut has not been done

I think it’s incredible that you can keep me engaged watching videos of a game that doesn’t really appeal to me at all. I mean compared to ‘if you jump this curb and spin through the air so that your back wheels land here you’ll land at this checkpoint where you can then take these three checkpoints out of order and do another shortcut into the finish’
I am an old-school trackmaniac who started in October 2003 with the legendary Beta demo. I played the game for thousands of hours having tons of fun offline, online and on Team League until it got far too speed-oriented (or speed-obsessed, rather). The fun of rickety cars and much slower, numerous and tighter turns was gone and I gradually lost interest. There are a few training videos from my Team League days on my channel. All of that is to say that I finally subscribed because of the everlasting emotional engagement to TrackMania and because I like your videos and the way they are presented.

In AC you go beyond the track limits, similar to not getting a checkpoint in Trackmania
the new edits are so cool, keep up the good work!
One of my favorite parts of this story is how well-chosen and well-timed the music was in Rollin's reveal video.
I’m going to guess they will successfully finish it within 10 hours of releasing this
I feel smart for realizing the shortcut right at 2:12.
lmao I tried this as a kid just because it seemed like a cool jump to make, and idk 7 years later I'm seeing it here haha what are the odds
Now, as you mention it, it's likely that I tried that too. Probably a lot of people did that during casual gameplay. Because at high speed, the idea it actually obvious, as the title says.
Same, I’m 100% sure I’ve tried this, but most likely on round 1, with too low speed thinking it was slower than the normal route
I have never played Trackmania, nor do I intend to, but I’ve been watching your content religiously for a while now. I think it’s incredible that you can keep me engaged watching videos of a game that doesn’t really appeal to me at all.
You are one of the best content creator on TH-cam if we only look at the quality of the content. Larger channels have better marketing but you can compete with anyone on quality that’s for sure.
I love how you explain everything even for people (like me) that don't know much about trackmania. Great content!
2:00 imagine putting a slovak flag for a slovenian player
Common mistake :D even some of the largest international competitions do it, or even worse, mix up the national anthems
Its a common misconception, relax
@@silverreaps6803 it's a common sarcastic joke, relax
It is clear the Norwegians are not in the Union
@@MatteoKysely right
2:04 I don't know if he is from Slovakia and just uses a Slovenian car and flag but you prolly dun goofed

Vilivano was from Slovinia, not Slovakia. You put Slovakian flag when you said something about him... :D
I dont play or know anything abt trackmania but speedrunning stuff/ tricks are really cool to me and ive been binging your channel. Amazing content
Dude those neon Tron lights behind the cars is a really cool effect. 6:36
"this is rocket leauge!" taken to the next level
ah yes 'obvious'
totally like 99% of us would notice it in the first place
I mean compared to ‘if you jump this curb and spin through the air so that your back wheels land here you’ll land at this checkpoint where you can then take these three checkpoints out of order and do another shortcut into the finish’
Does somebody know tname of the song at 6:17 its such a vibe

I am an old-school trackmaniac who started in October 2003 with the legendary Beta demo. I played the game for thousands of hours having tons of fun offline, online and on Team League until it got far too speed-oriented (or speed-obsessed, rather). The fun of rickety cars and much slower, numerous and tighter turns was gone and I gradually lost interest. There are a few training videos from my Team League days on my channel. All of that is to say that I finally subscribed because of the everlasting emotional engagement to TrackMania and because I like your videos and the way they are presented.
Also very cool and Calm choice of music! It’s very enjoyable. Not too much, very subtle and fits into your storytelling!!
