Thank you this was very informative. I'm currently trying to become a snail mommy. I have clutch that's going on 9 days old right now. I do wish you left the writing up longer. I had to pause to read everything.
Crumbling the clutch is not what I would recommend! No one does this for them in the nature! That might damage their shells, which are still very soft. I've been breeding apple snails for almost 20 years. I would usually wait until they all break free from the clutch. Egg shell provides calcium for them , as they eat it.
Then its probably going on perfectly! Probably in a week and they are going to hatch! Its just the baby snails eating fluid inside the egg sacks and it starts to look moldy and gets more fragile! But thats a good sign! Good luck!
Hey snail caretakers! I wanted to let you guys know. Always check on your snails. I was on a trip, when my black mystery snail, decided to crawl out of the water. When I got back, his shell was dry and he had this mucusy stuff on him. I pushed him in the water and he didn’t move for 2 days even when I touched him. I put him in a hospital tank for 2 days and I checked the ammonia around him, and it was off the charts. He had died. My mom buried him and we payed our respects at the walnut tree, where he was buried. I had checked the tank water, and it was good, and my fish was perfectly healthy. So I guess that day he just felt like drying out.

I have had this happen a lot,but then discovered that the snail was looking for a good place to lay it's eggs. Cause I put it back into the tank about four times, and it finally laid eggs on the underside of roof .But one other one did die from getting too dry😢.
It's hard to loose one! Even though I have a lot of room from the water line to the top of the tank, a couple weeks ago, I heard a crash behind my tank. I knew immediately what it was! One had fallen out of the tank and broken it's shell in half on the laminate floor. I was so devastated about that. I now have boxes and other soft materials to land on so hopefully that won't happen again. I have plenty of room for the snails to lay eggs. That was just a fluke. 🤔
I’ve had mystery snails for about 2 months-4 months I think and our gold one I’ve seen bating with both of our other snails and there is still no eggs yet and I’m so sad cuz I want some babies
I learned the hard way ramshorn DONT need another to lay eggs lol. I had one that started out as a BABY in a breeder box for my molly fry. 3 weeks later the thing was 5x bigger and laid 9 clutches of eggs. Mollies ate some of them but 4 weeks later I have maybe a dozen live babies.
I put mine in a Tupperware bowl in a paper towel and stuck it in the tank. When I went to check the container was full of water and idk for how long? Maybe a few days? Would they still be alive? Of course I emptied it.
I did at the time of the recording just because I had other fish in the tank with the adult snails and wanted to give them their best chance of not being eaten, haha
Awsome video! I learned so much thank you! Only one of my sacks looks like it’s doing okay but I never saw any black specks but now I see little white ones is that normal?

It really just depends on the conditions. You can honestly let them stay where they are and naturally do their thing. Its hard to tell how close they are to hatching without a photo
hey great video! just a question, do you know if when snails get older, their clutches are more likely to be infertile? or is it, in your experience, much the same rate no matter what age?
My clutch fell into the water today I scooped it out but not sure if it’s to late or what to expect.. didn’t even know it was eggs until I looked it up just now.
Yep! Its really just preference, and it depends on what you have in your tank (if they will eat the babies once they hatch and fall into the water). Lots of people incubate the clutch in order to put them in a breeder box once hatched or a different tank. Lately I have just been letting mine hatch naturally on the side of the tank where they have been layer. Hope this helps :)
After just waking up this morning my aquarium lid was wide open and they are apple snake on the aerator tube that's for all what I can explain just have a good day
Snails can hold sperm for a long time. She must have mated before you got her. Mystery snails cannot reproduce without a partner, but they can lay fertile eggs months to over a year after they last mated.
Do female mysteries need time to recover from mating? My 2 females got down and dirty with my male a couple of days ago and haven't moved since. One looks swollen and unable to go back into her shell properly, the other is worse ( more of her out of shell ) I've never bred snails so really unsure if it's normal or not.

I had my first clutch of eggs but unfortunately, it fell in the tank and the goldfish had at it :( I did not catch it in time, as I was not expecting it. But I also cannot have 100 snails in my tank!!! Can you control how many hatch? Like cutting the clutch in half? I feel terrible saying this, but... I would love to have a few more snails, just not so many. I am considering maybe getting a tank exclusively for snails? Do they naturally die off? How many survive per clutch? I have 3 snails and 3 large goldfish in the tank. (50 gallon)
I vote the snail tank I adore mine even more then my fish aquariums not sure about a half but I dont see it hurting to do so honestly if your going 2 toss half out anyway. The first time I thought it was just a one off but today the flat bottom of my clutch hatched open with lots of babies but none of the snails on top were ready or developing despite me seeing tiny dots. It’s super weird because I have tried incubating them a few different ways with the same result
Hello, I bought one if these and I dont know how exactly to take care of them. Do I have to leave them on top of the water the whole time or inside the water? How long does it take for them to hatch? What do I feed them? Is there any requirements like temperature level etc?
Hi! Are you talking about the snail themselves or eggs? Eggs you can leave out of the water until they hatch then the baby snails will need to be in water. It can take a couple weeks for them to hatch. They will eat what other snails eat (I recommend my video on making snello)
Mine hatched in about 2 weeks. Female laid several clutches and only 2 hatched. One was a week later than the other. When the 1st clutch started hatching, at first I thought she was laying single eggs below the waterline, but a couple of days later, I could see they were actually baby snails. I fed them canned green beans and they are voracious eaters! They've grown so fast, too. Time to get rid of some, even though I'd like to keep them all. Tried to count a couple of times and know I have at least 96. Local fish store said they'd give a dime a piece for them. Very cool experience!
Neat but ill just leave mine where she puts them i doubt my snails will bother babies they leave my live bearing snails babies alone so think im safe right? Just snails and shrimp in this tank.
Apparently they can be hard to remove. But you can try to scrape them off. To have them you need to have brackish water (salter water) but it could potentially kill other animals you have in the tank. Best option is to scrape them off or leave them as some natural decoration haha

I also thought if I ever do have eggs laid that I would just break apart some of the clutch an try to only hatch part of it so there's not so many
@@jennifert6220 Yeah that's what I do I just tossed them in the freezer overnight.
Here's an idea...leave the dialogue box on screen long enough to be able to actually read it. Having to pause every time gets you dislikes on this video.
My videos and length of text on screens has gotten better since this video haha. Thanks for the feedback though! 🙃
Why cant u fix this one??? @@skye9850
My question is…how do you get them to actually breed??
They do it on their own lol. If they are happy in their environment and stuff and you have a male and female of the right sizes, it happens
Why the hell put any words up where you have to stop the video to read it? That’s ridiculous
Then find another video! Your complaint is ridiculous!!
@@mrsmarvdeep100s of people have brought it up.. YOU are ridiculous
I want more snails but I do not want them to mate because that’s gonna take so much hard work, but anyways lots of luck to the people that snail’s gave birth and if you want snail babies make sure you are ready for them and separate the mother and father from the eggs too.
They don't 'give birth'.... they lay eggs. Giving birth is what live bearing is. Guppies, platies, dogs, cats, humans... give birth.
I greatly appreciate your effort, but you needed to leave the text boxes up much longer. I had to pause every time to read them. As a former Editor…you should read it to yourself, twice through, while editing. Thanks and no offense intended, hopefully constructive criticism.
I have improved this on newer videos 😉
@@skye9850fix this one 😢😮😮😮
It’s a snorgy
Why dont you leave the tips on long enough to read?
So sorry! I could re-upload
You shouldent have taken them out when it was egg transfer
Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, just depends. My snails always turn out fine.
I just watched snails have seggs this is weird
my snail is asexual. it just made like 7 clutches on its own
It was preggo prior to u getting it.
Why don't people just let them stay where they are.
Fish and others attack the babies... FFS. Follow along
snex 🤣
So much for a tutorial the phrases are flashing so fast I couldn't read them unless I was super human I can't learn anything off of this video the shit needs to slow down !!!!
Sorry about that! Can always pause when needed! I've been working on my editing, and I know that I had them very fast here. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer!
You know the pause button exists, right?
Why take it out !!!!
Follow along.. others eat the babies when they fall in
the video could be more stable i mean the camera is moving so much please work on it thank you 🔥
I cant read that fast!!!
This Video is WAY to long
Sorry.
No one, but NO ONE forced you to watch! People are always complaining about things they actually have control of! Too long? Move on, damn!!
are the paper towel wet/damp ?
Yes, just damp, not too wet
