Gonna try this. I found a large clutch on the lid this morning. Put a seal around the lid with a towel so the humidity kinda gets trapped in. Also installed a 2nd heater in my 55 gal so there’s 1 on each side and keeps the temp at a steady 79 F.

Thank you so much for this video! I have my first clutch in my tank right now. I followed the steps exactly in this video to make the incubator. But I’m concerned that the dry paper towel has become too wet. It was perfectly dry when I put it in there last night, but now it’s damp. Is that okay?
I am glad you found this video helpful! I would not be to concerned with the top paper towel being damp. That will help with humidity in the container. If it does get to wet you can replace it with another dry paper towel. Just as long as it is not soaking the clutch I think you will have a good hatch rate.
How do I transfer them from this to a tank do I just pick up the eggs ? Cause I don’t want to transfer to my tank till they are grown a bit more and I only want to add a couple the rest I might give away to a local pet store :)!
How dry is too dry to try and hatch the clutch? I found one this morning and it is pretty dry on the outside -- I assume the inside eggs are still viable but I'm not sure. Also, I'm doing a dry start grow right now so I put the clutch in a container (setup as you suggested) without a lid and put it in there. I'm hoping that's enough humidity to test this out.
The outside of the clutches always feel dry, as you do not want it wet. The humidity helps soften the clutch so the babies can chew there way through. I think having it in that high of humidity with the dry start may work
Hi there! Great video :) I just got a clutch and i’m making an incubator right now, when you say to change the towel every other day, do you mean change the wet towel? or the dry towel?
robin thomas Congrats on the clutch! Check each paper towel occasionally, wipe off the excess moisture from the lid. If the wet paper towel is dry change it out
Wel-Don Tanks okay thank you so much! the eggs feel a little hard so i put them in the incubator it’s only been a day since i’ve seen them so i hope they’re not too dry. ur video was very helpful! is there anything else u recommend to help them birth?
Wel-Don Tanks okay final question, ive seen some other videos where people just put the clutch on a damp cloth in a plastic container without the dry towel, should i do that since it would be more moist?
How did this turn out? Heading to your channel to see if there an update video. My snails have laid 5 clutches of eggs and I was afraid to move them. You made it look easy. Thank you.
I still have the clutch attached to the reed it was stuck to. Do I need the dry paper towel, or can I just put the reed across the container off of the wet paper towels? Also, why do you remove yours from the aquarium wall? Won't they exit and grow naturally? I got a lot of this info from Rachel O'Leary from a 2017 video, but I'm glad you verified that this technique works!!! Great video man!!
I bought 3 from petco not realizing they would breed. My one female is huge and lags a cluster every week. They just fall into the tank and decompose naturally from other animals. Might try this.
Great video. I actually caught my snails in action and now I have some eggs at the top of my 3 gallon tank. When you have in the container and do you wait for them to hatch on their own or do you wait and rub them out into the specimen container (like your other video) ? Also how long can stay in the specimen, and how do you feed them in the specimen container?
Either way, nothing wrong with waiting for them to hatch on their own Sinking foods can be used in the smaller container for feeding. I would personally move them out after 1-2 weeks because of the water changes that will need to done
Dear, I m very new in Snail, thanks for your video.I try your method since Feb22, and change the paper towel every 3 days, but up to now near 3 weeks no changes of the eggs, do you think they already die? Or need to wait?
Hello, I have a snail clutch thing in my tank right now and it's fairly large, I was just wondering when you make the incubator float on the surface do you put the lid on after or leave the lid off?
After placing the clutch incubator I place the lid on and float it then. And then once daily or every other day I will take the lid off to wipe down the condensation that has built up on it.
Thanks great video 👍🏼 just set mine up exactly how you did. I did use a razor blade tho because I was breaking a shit ton trying to grab with my hand. I’ll lyk how it goes!

I have a question!! I just started trying out your method today, and already the top napkins are just the tiniest bit damp. I did wring out the bottom napkins. Is that ok? Should I replace the top layer?
Hey, I’ve had my snails clutch hatch a couple weeks ago, one of the babies seem to have a flat/inverted spiral, that’s the best way I can describe it. Instead of the spiral poking outwards it’s just flat. It’s also a clear shell but the other babies have developed color. I know it’s probably not common but I just want to know if it had happened to someone else?? First time snail mom!
First congrats on the clutch and baby snails! It is a fun time. I have not seen that before personally, could be as simple as a birth defect. The clear shell my first thought would lack of calcium but as it is only one probably is not the root cause.
Hi again! Success with all my babies calcium from cuttlebone for birds! ?? Also, from food we give them right? Suggestions for other calcium supplements??? Thank you
I am glad it helped! My concern is if you cut the clutch in half you will compromise the entire clutch. I did have some break as I was removing them and the clutch did not hatch.
Wel-Don Tanks Ah, I see. Do you have any tips of removing a clutch without damaging some of the eggs? Ive got about 300 or so mystery eggs from my big lady this evening, haha.
After it has been laid give it 24 hours to harden a bit. From there gently push it off the glass with your fingers. A flat razor or card can also help you lift the clutch off the glass.
Our mystery snail has laid 2 clutches within the past 2 weeks or so.... the latter being laid a day and half ago.... the first clutch I did as you said... although I'm not seeing any progress.... the second I've placed in a container with the wet paper towel and placed the clutch on some Styrofoam? I hope it works I would love to have a successful clutch hatch!
The first batch is about 2/3rds of a marble and the second batch is obviously just hatched so extremely tiny. Wondering if the bigger ones will eat the smaller ones? Your method is working great by the way!!!
I just found your videos but I have a clutch on the side of the tank that's a few weeks old. It seems pretty hard. Do you think any of them are alive?? I just thought things would take it's course but not so sure now.. Is it too late?
My son want to hatch his clutch we where not expecting we only have the one mystery snail it must have been layed sometime over the weekend. I want to do the Tupperware thing but my tank is to small to put the container in can I keep it beside the tank?
A great big thanks for these videos. I do have one question. After you've broken the egg sack up to release the babies how long will they eat the left over egg sack before needing other forms of nutrition?
I am glad it helped! Yes when hatching them I will rub the clutch between my fingers under water and release the snails and leave the remnants. From there maybe a day or two later you can drop in a wafer or food of your choice.
I would recommend that you actually hatch the eggs yourself now. The grey coloration is the snails actually eating their way out of the eggs which is supposed to happen. If you have a breeder box or even a smaller tank that you want to hatch the snails in, put the clutch under water and rub it between your fingers to release the snails. I have a video I am in the process of making to talk about this procedure as I did not include it in this video. I also needed to wait for a few clutches to mature. Good luck!
Can you incubate multiple clusters in the same container? I had 2 random clusters appear overnight and was going to use this method to try and safely hatch them.
The way I set up the incubator is the damp paper towel on the bottom and the dry one on top of that for the clutches to sit on. If you are asking about the top paper towel it will absorb some moisture and will not damage the clutches.
Thank you for the video! My two apple snails just had an egg clutch 7 hours ago, and they are very gooey! I’m not sure how I will move them, as they are more liquid than solid! Additionally, I’m worried about the incubator, as I know that there are some toxins in paper towels that could hurt snails and fish alike. Have any ideas?
I would leave the clutch where it is at for 24-48 hours. That will allow the clutch to harden and then it will be much easier to move. As far as toxins in paper towels I am honestly not sure. I used the paper towel I just had in my house hold (bounty or some generic brand) and have never had a problem with snails hatching.
@@WeldonTanks Thanks! Sadly the eggs didn’t make it through, but just now we found that our snails laid another clutch! Since I believe we let the clutch sit a bit too long of a time before, and they dried out, we are planning on waiting around 5-10 hours this time! (:
Came across your video, my snail hatched last night in my bettas tank 😬 not sure where to start… my tank is about a gallon to 1.5, so not big enough for a ton of baby snails. So how do I get him out to put him in a different tank? Do I need to buy a 10 gallon tank to put them in once hatch? I don’t want my betta eating them
Sounds like you had a clutch hatch and are looking to get them out, making sure I understand. The easiest way I would say to remove the snails is put a piece of cucumber in your tank. The snails will cover it as they start to eat it and you can simply pick it up and pull as many of them out as you can.
I have a question. I have set up my incubator as you described. When the eggs hatch will they survive on the top paper towel? Do I just manually move them into breeding floating container? It’s the transition from the incubator into water that I would like to know more about.
I do have a follow up video talking more about that. You want to look for when the clutch looks “moldy” as that is the baby snail eating their way out. From there you can rub the clutch between your fingers under water into the breeding box releasing the baby snails
Wel-Don Tanks Thank you. Two babies hatched today. Then put them in a breeder box. What do I feed them? I can make repashy and I have a cucumber on hand.

First congrats on the clutch and baby snails! It is a fun time. I have not seen that before personally, could be as simple as a birth defect. The clear shell my first thought would lack of calcium but as it is only one probably is not the root cause.
Also I have a question so I have a few clutches and for some reason they haven’t hatched and they have been incubating for a while now?
May not be fertile
You can try releasing the snails yourself
Hi again! Success with all my babies calcium from cuttlebone for birds! ?? Also, from food we give them right? Suggestions for other calcium supplements???
Thank you
You can create your own frozen foods and include calcium powder in the mix.
So you have to hatch the eggs yourself or they can hatch on their own?
Either
Will other fish eat it ?
Can all of the baby snails live or should be in a tank with other fish?
I have about 10 fish, 4 snails, 3 frogs & an algae eater
Once they are hatched I am to put them in water?
Yes the snails will be fully aquatic when they hatch
This is such a helpful video! I have one question though, if you couldn't support/didn't have room for a full clutch, could you cut it in half?
I had clutches take between 5-14 days roughly. I know the humidity can play a part
I have a second egg clutch just starting to hatch with your method, can I put the new babies with my bigger first batch?
The first batch is about 2/3rds of a marble and the second batch is obviously just hatched so extremely tiny. Wondering if the bigger ones will eat the smaller ones? Your method is working great by the way!!!
They will not eat each other in my experience
@@WeldonTanks thanks a lot!
So, how do you get the newly hatched snails off the paper towel without killing them?
I just pick up the clutch and release them. If they have already hatched you can submerge the paper towel and release them that
Excellent, thanks so much 🙂
I just did this but I noticed my clutch was on the bottom of the tank this morning hope it's OK. thanks!
If the eggs have hardened already does that mean they're dead?
After the eggs are laid they will harden, that is normal.
I just found your videos but I have a clutch on the side of the tank that's a few weeks old. It seems pretty hard. Do you think any of them are alive?? I just thought things would take it's course but not so sure now.. Is it too late?
If it has been a few weeks and has not hatched yet you can try and release the baby snails yourself. Then you will really know if it is viable or not
@@WeldonTanks I followed what you did in this video as well as the other one. Maybe I'll have some luck 🤞. Thank you for the help!!
My son want to hatch his clutch we where not expecting we only have the one mystery snail it must have been layed sometime over the weekend. I want to do the Tupperware thing but my tank is to small to put the container in can I keep it beside the tank?
Yes you can keep it beside the tank. I would check on the humidity of the container daily
I have a question once the paper towel on top is moist/wet do I have to change it again or leave it wet ?
If it does get to wet it is a good idea to change it. You want the clutch to have humidity but not total direct contact with moisture
@@WeldonTanks excellent! Thank you bunches!
My snail eggs are turning grey like there about to hatch but it’s also been almost 5 weeks do you think they’ll hatch or should I just throw them out?
I would recommend that you actually hatch the eggs yourself now. The grey coloration is the snails actually eating their way out of the eggs which is supposed to happen. If you have a breeder box or even a smaller tank that you want to hatch the snails in, put the clutch under water and rub it between your fingers to release the snails. I have a video I am in the process of making to talk about this procedure as I did not include it in this video. I also needed to wait for a few clutches to mature. Good luck!
Wel-Don Tanks thank you
If i put my snail clutches in an incubator today, once they hatch can i just put them straight into the water?
Yes
How often do I change the paper towels
I change the paper towel when I reset the incubator with new clutches. I personally do not change them until after the clutch hatches.
Can i keep my clutch in the tank
Yes, I have hatched numerous clutches leaving them where they lay
Can you incubate multiple clusters in the same container? I had 2 random clusters appear overnight and was going to use this method to try and safely hatch them.
Yes you can. I have successfully incubated multiple clutches in the same container
Is it ok if the paper towel gets alittle wet?
The way I set up the incubator is the damp paper towel on the bottom and the dry one on top of that for the clutches to sit on. If you are asking about the top paper towel it will absorb some moisture and will not damage the clutches.
@@WeldonTanks Thank you!!!!!
I have a clutch of ivory mystery snails at the moment.
That is exciting
@@WeldonTanks, ok!! Thank you so much for replying! I most likely will do what your video said (I will wait 24-48 hours first though)
Good luck! Keep me posted on your clutch hatching.
@@WeldonTanks Thanks! Sadly the eggs didn’t make it through, but just now we found that our snails laid another clutch! Since I believe we let the clutch sit a bit too long of a time before, and they dried out, we are planning on waiting around 5-10 hours this time! (:
How long did you let it sit on the side of the tank before you moved them?
After I see a new clutch has been laid I will remove it a day or two later. That way the clutch has time to harden a bit.
Wel-Don Tanks okay thank you!!
How can I tell if there is too much humidity?
I would say the easiest way is if the top paper towel is wet through
8:11 Should I add water to that?
Yes
Repashy is good, algae wafers are good.
Wel-Don Tanks I gave my babies blanched spinach leave. And added an air stone to the breeding box.
Hi, my white ivory mystery snail laid eggs this morning, and I have set up a plastic tub tank to raise them, should I move the egg clutch to this tank? or should I put the clutch in a breeder box?
If you plan on moving them to the new tank to raise them in I would float the clutch in that tank if you can.
@@WeldonTanks ah.ok, thank you then, the video was very helpful.
Why Is it required to float that container over water.. Any reason?
Not required to float it. More of a space saving tip
