I tried to channel my best inner Waylon to write this. I hope I did his style justice
LYRICS:
Well I should've stayed in Austin
But I had stardom in my dreams
So I loaded up my car
And headed for the Nashville scene
By the time that they were finished
I couldn't recognize my song
Well I knew in an instant
That I simply don't belong
(CHORUS)
When I left Texas
I left country music behind
I thought in Nashville
Was where my star was gonna shine
Waylon and Willie
They had it right I'd say
I agree
Hank didn't do it this a way
When I left Texas
I left country music behind
They took out the fiddle
And replaced it with some strings
Then brought in a choir
For all the background they would sing
They took the edge off
With all their post production stuff
Well I just shook my head
And told them: "Boys I've had enough."
(CHORUS)
(BRIDGE)
I guess the Nashville way
Was not the way for me
I wasn't in the place
Where I needed to be
I turned the car around
And headed out that night
I'm going back to Austin
So we can do this right
(CHORUS)
