I'm stuck in a weird place. I like Rhys being pronounced as Reese instead of Rice, but I like Rhysand being Ri-sand instead of Ree-sand. My mind is f*cked up.
This is exactly why I don't write insane character names. But, if I ever do I'll be sure to include a handy dandy name pronunciation guide along with the book's release.
Glad I'm not the only who likes pronouncing Rhysand's name wrong. In Shakespeare's " A Midsummer Night's Dream" , I rhymed it with one of the lovers called Lysander.
I can't change the pronunciation in my mind for Rhysand no matter how hard I try. Its always going to be Rise or Rise - and. I want to pronounce it the right way but it never works because after going through the first whole book pronouncing it one way in my head I can't change it up. Ugh!!!
I kind of just glanced at the pronunciation guide in the back and was like. "ya know what I ain't changing it I have been pronouncing it Riss sand for the past two books." :) I am so glad I'm not the only one weirded out.
The good thing about being a spanish speaker is that Rhysand as Ree-sand didn't come as a surprise to me hahahaha. Actually most of the names sound like I imagined, except Feyre, which I used to pronounce as fair-ee or something like that lol
I've been so irritated by Fey-ruh (how it was written in the book) and couldn't wrap my head around why there should be an e turned into an ou sound. So I just called her Fey-er like a fantasy version of Fire haha
I still pronounce Rhysand like how it’s spelled, I might start saying cas-ian but I like cash-an better. Lucien I say like loose-ian Nesta I say like ness-ah
These comments are making me relieved that I looked up the full pronunciation guide before even opening the book, as soon as I got tripped up with Feyre on the back cover 😂 Never pronounced Rhysand wrong 😎 Also can we talk about how pretty that spelling is?? It's unique and every time I see it on the page it just looks so pretty for some reason. Also the spelling Rhys >>>>> Reese
Obrigada Sarah, acabei de comprar *corte de espinhos e rosas* volume 1 e já sabia que teria que pesquisar como pronuncia os nomes, mas meu Google n está pegando, então vc me salvou de falar o nome dos seus personagens errado ❤️❤️nem terminei e já amoh ❤️😍
I am quite late to the ACOTAR fandom but now that I have arrived I cannot let go, lol. I am happy to know I got these pronunciations correct. I actually did not think they were difficult in the slightest and was more worried that I was simplifying something that was going to end up being complex. The only one I was really unsure of initially was Feyre but the pronunciation was within the first bit of the book which helped. At first I thought it would end up more like Fairy but I love that it leans Fae instead. I may or may not have started naming my animals after these characters so again glad I knew what I was reading lol. 🤪
I said Rise-and and Rise for Rhys literally until the last 14 chapters of book 2 when my world was shattered. Like do I even know him at all? Book 3 now and I keep having to correct myself hahahah
I've always said Rih-sand. With a soft I. I don't mind the hard I for the full name, but when it's shortened to RICE, I think it sounds weird. However, I was not expecting Ree-sand
So I was pretty solid on the names , Feyre tripped me up when I first read it but she gave the pronunciation pretty early in the book and that fixed it, I went back and forth on how to pronounce Rhysand for awhile but ended up pronouncing it the correct way before I searched for a guide, Mor’s name tripped me up but I had it in my head it was just a fancier way to say Morgan and I was mostly correct, and Azriel had me going back and forth between Azh-Riel and Aze-riel. The one that really got me was Alis, it would’ve never clicked that it was pronounced like Alice, I’ve been reading it as A-lyss this whole time and I can’t be the only one
I’ve always loved the name Rhys (Reese) so that was fun to see, but I feel betrayed because I’ve been calling him Ree-sand with an emphasis on the Ree, not Sand like Sarah 😭
Sarah pronounces "sand" like how you say it as a singular word, but when I say Rhysand as "Reese-sand" it sounds more like "Rhy-SIND" and when I pronounce it like "Rice-SAND" it actually sounds like "Rice-sand". My brain does not know which way it wants to pronounce it lol - this the case for anyone else? Also, I was going to try to pronounce Rhysand's name the way it's supposed to be pronounced (ever since I saw how to on the pronunciation guide), but looking at comments saying they are going to pronounce it "(Rice-sand) is making me want to give in and do it.
My only issue with Rhysand is the emphasis being on SAND and not RHYS. “REES-and” makes more sense than “Ree-SAND”. I feel like it’s emphasizing the wrong syllable. But Sarah’s the boss 😂
I’ve always pronounced it not Reese-sand like beach sand, but Reese-end, it flows in the way that Rowland wouldn’t be row-LAND, but row-lend. I can’t let go that it’s Reese SAND
I'm starting the series now and I want to learn to say Rhysand properly as it'll stick if I mispronounce from the beginning. But I don't like Rhee-sand, Rhi-sand is better...I hope it will stick. Apparently, the guy is like THE HERO. Let's see what I think :)
Am I the only one who's been pronouncing Rhysand as ree-sand the whole time? 😹 Ri-sand just sounded weird and if it's Rees, then I thought it'd be ree-sand
It's baffling to me that everyone was mispronouncing Rhysand. This isn't a made up name. It's actually a pretty common Welsh name and Sarah is pronouncing it correctly.
I figured Rhys was pronounced as Rees, but I couldn't wrap my head around Rhysand being pronounced as Ree-sand and preferred Rye-sand. I then got used to saying it as Rise for short. I read the whole series without looking up the pronunciation until now, so Rees is foreign to me. I suppose I will have to get reacquainted.
Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who says Ri-sand. IM GONNA KEEP CALLING HIM THAT TOO BECAUSE IT SOUNDS BETTER :')
well if you say "ree-sand" fast it sounds like "ri-sand"
@@sanjanan7109 I tried it does not
YES
RICE SAND IT IS
I'm stuck in a weird place. I like Rhys being pronounced as Reese instead of Rice, but I like Rhysand being Ri-sand instead of Ree-sand. My mind is f*cked up.
same here
xmenlover16 same here 😓
omg sameee
Same! I pronounce Rhysand's like Ry-Sand (Well not anymore, but it took me a long time to start pronouncing it properly)
Same, after I found it was Reece it was too late. I was to used to calling him Rice and Ri-sand.
Rice-sand sounds so much cooler than Reece-sand... Imma keep saying it that way.
Honeymeil me too, sis!
@@dimaael4224 lol cool!
Exactly!!! Ree-sand doesn't fit his personality🙅
Btw I'm kinda very late into the fandom....I guess😶
Omg I thought I was the only one! In my head he's still Rice-sand ❤
I pronounce it like rise-and
Ree- sand?! are you kidding?!! I've been saying Ri-sand! Forget it, I'm not changing the pronunciation now.
IKR
SAME
same i’m not gonna change it either 😂
Lol same!!! I feel like I can never change the pronunciation of something after I've said it so many times
I always said Ree sand :3
I will never stop saying Rise-sand and Rise. I don't care what anyone says; not even you Sarah J. Maas.
I love how we’re all here to see how to actually say Rhysand
98% of the comments are how we've been pronouncing "Rhysand" incorrectly
(I was furious when I found out the truth)
Oh come on...Noo...He is not Rhee-sand.. he is Rhy-sand...He will always be Rhy-sand....XD
IKR? I was pissed too. I'm still calling him Ri-sand it sound so much better
Aelin Whitehorn Yes...Ri-sand sounds so much better...Rhee-sand just sounds weird xD...
EXACTLY
YES!
I'm glad I bought the audiobook for the second book, otherwise, I would have probably been feeling like you.
Thanks Sara, now I can sleep at night. Or not. I CANT ACCEPT REESE: WHAT? NO. RICE. RISAND. YES.
Rice!
LMAOO
For some reason I’ve always said it as Ri-sand, but the shortened version as Reece. Just kinda fit for me
I'm shook by Rhysand's pronunciation. I've always pronounced it Ri-sand....fuuuuuck
At least you didn't read it Rice-sand I actually know people who did....
me too! :(
well when you say "ree-sand" fast it sounds like ri-sand
Sorry, itll never be ree-sand
@@Liz-pj4xs i did that now i'm shook with the real Rhysand's pronunciation
This is exactly why I don't write insane character names. But, if I ever do I'll be sure to include a handy dandy name pronunciation guide along with the book's release.
I’ve been pronouncing her name as fair 😭😂
SO HAVE I
SAME DKWKDD
ME TOOO
Ok but this pronunciation is given in the first book so i can’t back you up on this 😂
My original guess was "fire" 💀
Glad I'm not the only who likes pronouncing Rhysand's name wrong. In Shakespeare's " A Midsummer Night's Dream" , I rhymed it with one of the lovers called Lysander.
I can't change the pronunciation in my mind for Rhysand no matter how hard I try. Its always going to be Rise or Rise - and. I want to pronounce it the right way but it never works because after going through the first whole book pronouncing it one way in my head I can't change it up. Ugh!!!
I never read the book, I only listened to the audiobook. I feel so fortunate now :))
I kind of just glanced at the pronunciation guide in the back and was like. "ya know what I ain't changing it I have been pronouncing it Riss sand for the past two books." :) I am so glad I'm not the only one weirded out.
Okay so I say Rhysand as Ree-sand but it sounds like "recent" but with a d. But Rhys is Rees. what even
This is exactly how I have been pronouncing it 😂
oh my gosh. I've literally been reading it and pronouncing it as Nestra 🤣😭
The good thing about being a spanish speaker is that Rhysand as Ree-sand didn't come as a surprise to me hahahaha. Actually most of the names sound like I imagined, except Feyre, which I used to pronounce as fair-ee or something like that lol
That’s prob why Rhys never once came to me as Reece. Spanish background
WAIT WHAT?! YOU KEAN TO TELL ME THAT FEYRE IS PRONOUNCED AS FERA? AND NOT FAI-RE?? 😭😭😭
Mehreen Zia yeah I've always called her Fey-ruh, but Fey-rie is so much better since the book IS about fairies
Mehreen Zia I’ve always called her Fey-ruh because at the beginning of ACOTAR it was mentioned that was what her name was pronounced like
I always thought it was pronounced Fee-air 💀
I called her Fair
I straight up thought it was pronounced “Fire”
My whole life has been a lie, I’ve been pronouncing Rhysand’s name wrong
No, the author is wrong and everyone pronounced it the right way. Majority rules
Anyone else happy that they found this before starting the tremendous series?
Yep lol
I am so upset about Rhysand. Reese doesn't sound right. Rise sounds more appropriate.
would you like to be called Rice....Hey, Rice! uuuuuh, no.
Its not Rice exactly, its like R-eyes or Ry-sind, at least thats how its in my head 😂 I know its wrong but I can't help it
uuuh that actually makes sense and it's prettier. gee thanks for that
I can't tell if thats sarcasm and if I say ''lol np'' will I sound like an idiot?
no sarcasm! i swear Rice sounds so hideous and Ry-sind sounds almost heavenly. meh
Restore Me This is exactly me
Caramba esse Feyre - Fey-ruh me quebrou
É só falar Fey -normal,como escreve- e Ra com um puxadinho no RA

It's unique and every time I see it on the page it just looks so pretty for some reason. Also the spelling Rhys >>>>> Reese
I say Ri-sand but then I'll say his shortened version as Reese
I've been reading Rhysand as 'Rai-sand' and Rhys as something closer to 'Rise/Ryze'. It's now stuck T_T
I pronounced Rhysand or Rhys right as I read it so I don't have a problem with the pronounciation! LOL.
This is quite the dive! For those wanting to go deeper, a book with congruent themes is available. "Sunrise Rebellion" by Olivia Whitestone

My cousins called Rhys so I’ve always said Reece if it’s the other way then the nickname Would b Rice.. but I’ll admit Riceand sounds cool
Listen, I've been saying Rhysand as Rih-sand and his nickname is Ris
IANTHE HELP PLEASE
Eye-an-thee :)
It is totally wrong but I alwys pronounced it like EE-an-the
Eye-an-th is how I say it

I've been saying the "sand" as "ah" like "sahnd." I honestly prefer mine, so it will remain. 😂
okay, I need a pronunciation guide for ToG now please

Why tho? Why do all her characters names have to be so complicated? (Elian the simplist name not included)
i was shook when she said ree-sand
